Talking Chop

Spring Training Open Thread: Tigers at Braves

We get another televised game today, once again on ESPN, as the Braves host the Tigers. You can bet that the ESPN announcers will be talking about our right fielder non-stop for at least the first hour. I'm actually okay with that.

Melky Cabrera, LF
Martin Prado, 2B
Chipper Jones, 3B
Brian McCann, C
Troy Glaus, 1B
Jason Heyward, RF
Nate McLouth, CF
Omar Infante, SS
Derek Lowe, P

Following Derek Lowe on the mound will be Billy Wagner, Takashi Saito, and Scott Proctor. Meanwhile, Peter Moylan and Jo-Jo Reyes will appear on the backfields in a hi-A Myrtle Beach game against the Nationals' team.

I need to find a bar near my office with the game on and go watch for my lunching hour (or hours).

That’s our starting RF batting 6th…

That's what I hear. :)

Talking Chop has an office? Hot damn!

find a bar near my office

Hahahahaha, like you don’t know them all already…hahahaha

I know all of the hubub is about Heyward right now, but I’m starting to like the idea of Cabrera in the leadoff spot. I realize it may be a fluid thing and Cox likes having an everyday guy like McLouth in the leadoff spot, but Cabrera seems to thrive in the tablesetter role while McLouth’s mindset would be better in an RBI spot.

Either way I don’t think its going to matter too much, but Cabrera’s versatility and flexiblity in the lineup is really starting endear me to him.

now that we know what's happening with Heyward...

i want this lineup opening day:

Cabrera
Prado
Chipper
Glaus
BMac
Heyward
Esco
McLouth

and against a lefty…..

Diaz
Prado
Chipper
Glaus
BMac
Esco
Heyward
McLouth

I woudn’t mind seeing Cabrera getting a fair share of PT in CF against LHP as McLouth had some pretty nasty splits last year.

I don’t think we should have a ‘set’ lineup either way, but start Cabrera mostly at leadoff with Diaz getting some time there, and then start Diaz and McLouth in the 8th spot where they are going to get a nice chunk of RBI opps because of Esco and Heyward’s nifty OBPs in front of them. Dang thats a deep lineup….

I’m not crazy about the Mac/Glaus flip. I think Mac hits better in the 5 with all the “power” pressure off. Just let him hit and it will come. And I think we’ll be seeing alot of the MelkMan in the OF whereever it may be. Good defense and can give us alot of options with the lineup.

But then Melk

gets more PAs than both Diaz and McLouth, which might not make sense.

Interesting flip with McCann and Glaus

Interesting that Melky is leading off and Nate is down.

I like it. We need to have an RBI man batting 8th if we are going to bat Heyward/Escobar 6/7 or 7/6. I know I have already said this, but Melky has that leadoff ‘mentality’ that is needed in that spot and McLouth has the RBI ‘mentality’ needed down in the order. I don’t by into needing a certian mentality too often but I think it is relevent in this situation.

Heyward will wear #22

in case anyone missed it.

where did you see that?

Carroll Rogers at the AJC
Too early to buy a jersey?

first thought that went through my mind…

not up on MLB.COM shop yet

Personalize that sucker baby

you could.. I think I’m just gonna wait

haha. i’d wait to confirm this when it’s on his back

Way cool – 222 has always been my lucky number.

you don’t see many 3 digit lucky numbers.

It’s bizarre I know, but you would be amazed at how many times it was come to play in my life.

hey more power to you.

213 always recurs for me…

I always manage to look at the clock at exactly 10:19, which is weird because its my birthday. It never fails.

But #22 is my favorite jersey number, so this is good news.

Ok, I always look at the clock at the same time everyday, but no one believes me when I say that.

It’s even so known by people who know me – my family and friends will e-mail or call me to tell me they had a “222” moment and thought of me.

I was born at 2:22 and find myself constantly noticing that time on the clock.
Eerie really.

the double deuce

I just got chills

Jason Heyward and Alex Rodriguez walk into a bar

And Jason Heyward wins.

Is he still wearing 71 today?

Rick Sutcliffe is like 13 inches taller than Valentine and Ravech

don’t care. Thank God it isn’t Miller and Morgan

What’s with De-troit and not De-troit?

Woohoo ST game on HD!

still love that print

Wore my shirt yesterday to bowling and had to explain to at least 30 people who was on the front. Found a man bowling on another set of lanes with a Braves hat on – we had a great conversation about the upcoming season…he’s looking forward to this year too. And, yes HE knew who it was.

This!

Go Braves!

Did they just say Lowe would be opening day starter?

yeah. But Bobby announced that close to a month ago

Yeah

Braves Announced that a while ago actually

"We want to keep our expectations, with common sense," Cox said. "Everybody is going to think he’s going to hit 40 home runs, hit .330 and drive in 150 runs."

Funny, I thought he was going to hit 65 home runs and knock in 190

right….. your expectations are common sense

imo,

the braves will be using all 4 outfielders and it really doesnt matter who’s in the starting lineup day 1. imo, each outfielder will need regular off days for one reason or another.

OK, didn’t Derek Lowe COMPLAIN about being involved in trade talks?

9 pitch inning for Lowe

9 pitch inning for Lowe – 2 ground ball outs and 1 fly ball out.
Let’s hope this is a good day for him.

this is already a good day for anyone in a braves jersey.

Top half of 1st inning.

Kelly – groundout.
Damon – groundout.
Guillen – line out to center.
Quick first.

“Shining Star” music…. love it.

Justin Verlander on the hill for the Tigers.

What number is JHey wearing today did anyone see?

they haven’t shown his back yet… I’ll keep an eye out

Does anyone know if Martin got the immigration issues worked out for his mom and brother?

I know that was really affecting him in the latter part of the season…

Last I heard they had to go back, and he went back some during the offseason. But I don’t have anything to reference right now, getting shelled at work.

Right...thanks!

Melky fly out to left on 1-0 count. 1 down.
Odarp takes a strike, then flies out to right. 2 down.
Chipper… strike looking. strike swinging. Ball high. Foul. Ball two.
 — strikes out for first time this spring.

Thanks for the play by play…..I hate it when I leave my headphones at home….ARG!

I’m working off of ESPN gamecast, so anybody feel free to correct me as needed!

TOP 2ND - No Score.

M Cabrera (not ours), Inge, and Laird due up.

That announcer sounds like the guy that does the commercials for Sargento Cheese.

LOL...

Census equals money and jobs?!

Where do I fill mine out?

Off the field issues...

…if too much boozin’ and barbecuin’ are wrong, I don’t want to be right…

Cabrera: Ball lowe, Foul, ball inside, single to center.

Inge hits the first pitch into left for a single. Two on.

Inge base hit.

Whop whop whop!!!

Wow that didn’t look good for us. LOL.

Laird: first pitch …. oh my.
Bunt single(?). Chipper error. Inge to third, Laird to second. Cabrera scores. 1-0 Tigers.
Still nobody out.

yeah, bunt single

Forgot Prado error and Nate has to cover second there not stand around watching every body else play

Man, McCann is so thin.

Yeah I agree.

I just wish that somebody had told me that place was a Renaissance Fair.

Not the free report provided for by Federal Law…..

And a sham. That site is about to get fined. Yay!

Gamecast is a little sloooowwwww in getting the PBP.
Still stuck on Raburn here.

Two unearned runs Lowe looks good

He does. Shaky second but still looks good.

Shaky defense yes

Yeah I meant shaky D.

Raburn K’s on 5 pitches. 1 out.
Santiago hit first pitch – sacrifice out toward first… works to score second run.
Verlander then K’s to end the inning.
25 pitches total for Lowe through 2.

Do yall think Heyward will make the All Star team?

ROY.

he better hope Strasburg stays in the minors

McCann singles up the middle

McCann with a shot up the midlde.

BOTTOM 2nd - Tigers lead 2-0.

Skinny McCann leads off…. and singles to center on a 1-1 count.

He has certainly shed some pounds, but take a look at this pic I took before the phillies @ Braves game this week and you can see he still has enough meat on those bones to go yard.

http://www.flickr.com/photos/demianseiler/4464829050/sizes/l/

WOW

What a great shot!

come on troy, lets see some of that power

Man

that new swing of McCann’s is gorgeous

Very nice it is.

Man of Troy up…. 0-2… 0-3.

Troy, that was right down the middle

Still wearing 71

I like it

I think he should keep it

Heyward swings at a diving change

0-1

Swings, a little behind on a high 96 fastball, fouls it back

0-2

Curve in the dirt

1-2

fouls off another pitch

Think it was a change-81.

Takes high in the zone

2-2 now

Fouled off another

battling here.

Takes a change, low

full count now. Good battle.

Fouls off a nice slider there, away

still full.

Fouled off another

No idea what that pitch was. Think it was another change.

K's swinging on a 98 MPH fastball

Just couldn’t catch up after all that offspeed stuff, I think.

Heyward

hacking away up there . . . come on kid i know you’re excited still show that patience

Did he really just say “he’s trying to get him out”? I’m pretty sure that’s the goal every pitcher has with every hitter.

Hahaha. That he did.

Bobby V

Is just as bad as Joe Morgan. I really do think he knows next to nothing about baseball. I hope we don’t have many espn games with him this year. Just dreadful.

He's not THAT bad....

he doesn’t have Morgan’s arrogance for one thing

Anybody else having problems with the AT BAT app on the iPhone? I’m not getting any audio…

Wish I could help. I just got the lite version.

Mine MLB at bat shows the same

“This game has no audio.”

Im not getting video or audio today for some reason

I just started getting video on my MLB at bat app but still straight audio feed

scratch that...it appears to be frozen now.

I paid good money for this mlb.tv so they better get the ish together before Opening Day.

65mph??

what the heck was that?

then 97

yea

but what kind of pitch was that

not sure, but lordy verlander’s bringin the heat

getting ready

for regular season

Think the 65 MPH pitch

had to be a faulty reading.

FYF would have swung at that and missed badly
Battle Kid!!!

He is making it hard for Verlander right now.

Heyward

battling back. Full count.

this

is like a 10 pitch at bat

10 pitch at bat so far

Wow, this guy…. this is why he’s starting.

Well, not that… but it was a great at bat. Make him work for the out.

JHey: Strike swinging. Foul. Ball low. Foul. Location pretty much low-middle-in. Ball two.
Foul… down the middle (eephus pitch?)… Ball 3 low. Verlander is giving him everything.
Foul again on his knees. Ninth pitch fouled. Got him on #10… swinging.

Amazing at bat Dont care if he struck out

Verlander balks.. Heap to 2nd

Little Mac hit sighting. RBI too!

see

thats why little mac should hit lower in the lineup

Nate knocks in Mac
Atta boy Nate!!!

Meanwhile, McLooth hits the first pitch and scores McCann! 2-1

Infante up: Ball 1, ball 2, ball 3. Strike looking (thank you).
Fouled – full count.
Popped out to first to end the inning.
33 pitches for Verlander through 2 innings… of which JHey was responsible for ten.

I think Heyward had 11.

TOP THIRD INNING - Tigers up 2-1.

Kelly, Damon, Guillen due.

Nate Mcloud?

Nice Bobby V… And all joking aside, for them to say that Verlander woke up this morning thinking about how to get Heyward out? Oh geez.. Looks like ESPN has as big of a crush on Heyward as all Braves fans

Maybe it’ll get us some TV time.

McLoud?

What, does he fly an Ar-wing?

Let's called Defense Exhibit A

If you’re worried about Heyward handling major league pitching. Verlander is as good as there is in the Majors. Runner up for the Cy Young last year, with some nasty pitches and great heat. Heyward took him 11 pitches, fouled off everything, worked the count full. He certainly wasn’t outmatched, even though Verlander went through nearly his full repertoire.

hmm
the FB seemed to be his problem

I miss Kelly Johnson’s high socks.

That is the proper way to wear a uniform if you ask me. Respect to baseball history.

Love the high socks – anyone else on our team known to wear them sometimes?

Chipper did...

Until Remlinger and Lightenburg had the team change to the God awful red and blue socks….Chip hated them and stopped the old school look because of it. Or so he said.

Odarp

I was thinking that, but I wasn’t positive.

Ouch

Fouled it off McCann’s mask.

I was doing laundry – how did we get the 1st out?

Kelly: Strike 1 from Lowe. Foul. Strike 3 looking. One down.

Jim Leyand likes talent. I have so much in common with him.

You and everyone else in a performance related position.

Damon. Strike swinging; Ball, Foul; pitches staying agreeable low. Foul again.
Ball lowe, Hit – fly out to Center. Two down.

Jesus. Heyward has a rocket arm

Yeah

almost got him

Guillen: Strike…. double to right.

Heyward

almost robbed him of a double lol

When did Guillen get so quick?
Don't fix it

If it’s not broken.. But to me it looks like Heyward is going around the baseball and trying to pull everything. This doesn’t really matter when you hit .350+ though haha

Makes you wanna forget…. whazzzhis name….

This just in...

In light of the announcement of Jason Heyward as the Braves starting right-fielder, every other team in Major League Baseball has decided to forfeit the next 15 seasons, accepting the fact that there is really no point in trying to compete with perfection.

too bad

one excellent hitter cant carry an entire team

Example: Adrian Gonzalez and the Padres

There's a difference

between an excellent hitter like Adrian Gonazalez and a…(Im not worthy to even mention his name) a Heyward

I really like these spring training interviews during games.

Cabrera up with two down. Ball; foul; strike looking; ball (2-2).
Fouled out to Prado behind first. END INNING.

Class act right there Mr. Leyland.

BOTTOM THIRD; Tigers 2-1.

Lowe, then the top of the order.

After this half inning, I gotta run an errand… y’all hold the fort and get some runs, ok?
Sounds like Heyward is planting a seed or two with his arm and his ABs.

You got it boss.

That stadium is bumping. Good showing

Lowe with a single between first and second.

Nice hit for Lowe.

Between first and second.

Lowe—chicks love the long ball (or hits)

Haha, I was just about to post that Lowe has been a decent hitting pitcher for us.

Strike looking, ball low, fouled off, Ha! Single to short right.

Come on guys, get Lowe Lowe Lowe Low Lowe

To the window….

Cabrera out at first. Lowe to second.

Melky… hits first pitch… Lowe gets to second. Melky Out at first.

I hate to ask … Lowe with 3 or 4 Ks?
I’m behind since leaving the room for a bit.

Prado: Ball away; strike looker; another strike; foul.
Groundout to the right side… gets Lowe to third with 2 down.

yeah – 3K’s for Lowe.

RBI chance for chipper. Go Chipper

Prado GO to 2nd. Lowe to 3rd. Jones up.
Prado

Bailed on every pitch that at bat.. No bueno..

Chipper vs. Verlander. Runner on third.

Boy Verlander is bringing the heat!

He knows how to keep Longo from going Longo….LOL

Thanks y'all... I'll be able to keep up now hopefully.

Ball, ball, ball, down middle — grounded out to second.
END INNING.

CJ GO to 2nd. Tigers 2 Braves 1

Thanks much – back later (I hope).

Ill try my best to help out.

I have trouble paying attention to the thread and the game. This is officially multi-tasking training.

We have faith in you.

Am I the only one that likes those back flip commercials. I have no idea why but I find them funny.

This just in local area girl totally siked its flip-flop weather.

two on first and second

No outs.

Two on: No Outs. Runners on 2nd and 1st.
Rayburn up....0-1.

Well hell – 2 batters, 2 hits .
6 total hits so far for Lowe.

Fouled away. Still 0-2.
Wow!!! That was on the outside corner.
2-2 FOLKS. 0 Outs.

Let’s get a ground ball and a Vidro at least.

Let's go Lowe!!!

Full Count.

3-2 Pitch Fouled away.
Awesome

Strike out. then McCann picks off steal at 3rd.

Nice...DP!!!!!

K and Inge caught stealing at 3rd.

Strike 'em out - throw 'em out at 3rd.

2 the hard way.

But they make it look so easy.

YESSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSS!!!! GUNNED OUT AT HOME

glad lowe got to work himself out of the jam this time

I had to use it too bro. Sorry.

no worries… I just reserve the right on HRs

nice inning for McCann

Got greedy and throw ’em out at Home Plate!

Out at the plate!
Cabrerra with a Cannon!

McCann did not tag him. But Ill take it.

Yeah, I think Bobby V may have been right
Yeah we got away with one.

It looked like he missed initially but I think him he got him on a second effort once he has already passed.

On the back foot maybe?

looked like on the back of his calf

I think if it wasn’t spring training, he would have dove in front of him more.

Man

I wish McLouth was that aggressive in CF. Cant wait till Schafer is back in CF

I agree with that.
This is important for Heyward

he has seen all of Verlander in his last AB. how does he approach this one?

approach it like a Tiger hunter

Bottom 4th - DET 2, ATL 1 :: McCann leads off.
wouldnt call that a

cannon from melky.

Your probably right. LOL.
No, he was playing deep third base
BH Single from McCann. 0 Outs.
McCann

and that new swing is whew . . . . trying to give Mauer a run for his money

bubble wrap him and send him up
Glaus up. Hayward follows.
GLAUS WITH A SMASH TO LEFT.

Two men on, 0 Outs. Hayward up.

Troy with a base hit

glaus with the vintage glaus single
5 bucks says Heywards about to get 3 RBI

He should have gotten at least 1

Table set for JH with 2 on.

I love Jason Heywards music. STAND UP

Verlander wears some tight pants.

Thought I was the only one noticing that. ;-)

Yeah he kinda reminds me of an emo kid haha.

lollipop that curve one more time and watch it fly
Two Curves to Hayward. 1-1
lol

if Heyward bunted that would be hilarious

I always feel a little sad when McCann stands up from diving and wipes himself off. Especially after that awesome triple a couple years ago on Chipper’s birthday. Boog said his dive registered on the Rictor Scale.

For anyone who wants to see it again…
~ Chipper BDay Triple ~

Hahahah makes my day… well other than the whole Heyward thing… ;)

SHOULD HEYWARD BUNT???

no - guaranteed to get Heap at 3rd
Heyward

Gun Shot Single

Smash!!!!! Bases loaded. 0 Outs. McClouth up.

boo mccann and his lack of speed

Jesus. I just heard a sonic boom

Love that swing – bags loaded for Nate.

Hayward line drive to center.

lol, i see what you guys meant about damon’s arm. that was hilarious.

I'm gonna say we made the right call there...

sign Damon, and Diaz would be gone.

From shallow center, he couldn’t get it to the infirld grass, that is really sad

Good lord these guys have man crushes on Heyward.

I am coming out and saying I am one. LOL
and you have one on mccann

lol @ Damon’s arm.

LOL

HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA

Damon hardly made it to the mound

Damon looked like a little girl throwing that ball.

Frank Wren was just heard laughing in the Executive Suite

You realize that Wren tried to sign Damon, and only didn’t because there wasn’t enough room in the budget, right?

Oh yeah...I know the laughing was hysterical, mind you

Frank Wren was laughing cause he read my post.

I’m the humblest.

Now that's funny.
Nate hit!

post fail – sac fly not a hit

2 Down. Runners on 1st and 2nd.
Way to go, Nate!

He’s gonna be fine; the ST slump was annoying/worrying, but he’s getting it together going into Opening Day

I think it was on purpose to get himself out of the leadoff spot.

Bobby V keeps saying he’ll be on fire by opening day, he might be right, hope so

Lowe gets a hit, he goes ahead & is in position for W.

Damon prancing in center. LOL
he literally

was prancing like a ballerina

End of 4. Tied up at 2!
Man, bases loaded...0 outs...one run plated...

just like last year….
/not trying to be a hater
//trying to stay positive today

I agree. I wasn’t thrilled with that.

I just thought of a Heywardism

Heyward always wears sunglasses at games to hide the fact that he is actually sleeping. In reality, he hits skyrocket homers, throws batters out before they can blink, and steals bases while hes taking a nap. If he were to play awake, we might all die from awe

Anyone see the matchups for Deadliest Warrior season 2? I’m stoked

Can you..

remember a couple off the top of your head?

Atilla the Hun vs. Alexander the Great
Nazi SS vs. Viet Cong
SWAT vs. GSG-9
Aztec Jaguar vs. Zande Warrior
Jesse James Gang vs. Al Capone Gang
Persian Immortal vs. Celt
Roman Centurion vs. India’s Rajput Warrior
Somali Pirate vs. Medellin Cartel
KGB vs. CIA
Vlad the Impaler vs. Sun Tzu
Ming Warrior vs. Musketeer
Comanche vs. Mongol
Navy Seal vs. Israeli Commandos

that bottom one interests me a lot

I’m digging KGB vs. CIA.

USA USA USA

I feel like KGB will pwn.. Actually I’m calling the US looses both battles

oooh, SS vs Viet Cong should be cool, two heartless thugs going at it.

This season is filled with heartless thugs

Uh, that was hit to right field and McLouth snagged it. Was Heyward playing in the dirt or something?

First base is gonna be an adventure this year.

Yea that was an interesting way to get in front of the ball.

I don't know...Glaus only played 5 minutes last year, and before that was a career 3B

At the risk of being yelled at – LaRoche would have had that.

Just focus on all of the singles he hits.

Yeah but,

I only hits every other month or so.

Reply fail

He not I

I’m likely in the minority, but I would have liked to see him back this year to see if he could hit the entire year instead of a first baseman in training.

I’m with you.

Almost anyone would have had that … Just a brain fart play.

unless his ADD kicked in

Wait, where’s Esco?

We pulled the trigger and traded him to the Twins for Delmon Young?

God, look at all the disgusting Gaytor fans

It is an hour and half from the campus.

I know where it is, I live an hour away on the east coast

I took my Dad for a haircut this morning. Dude walked in with a Gator hat, gator shirt, gator pants and gator clogs. Really looked like a fool.

Nothing parallels my hatred for the colors blue and orange together

F$%& the Gators
F%$& the Mets

That is all…

the clogs were blue and orange with Gators printed across the tops and back

plus...

Parkview, Auburn, and Tennessee (the lady vols use blue).

I go to UF

I’m not proud of most of our fans.

this was in Tennessee for Christ sake!

hahah

that is pretty damn funny.

yeah, he was testifying

Don't worry...

most of the fans didn’t even go there.

This just in...

certain commercials are starting to rival “Hey Ump!” in annoyance.

B 5th - 2 out - Prado GO to Short.
Chipper down. LOL.

Im out guys you boys have fun.

Took another look – yep – still a gal.
Hehehe

Need a 2nd opinion? B-)

Not quite sure how I would accomplish that.

Chipper fly out. Score tied.

Jorge is pronounced Georgie?

I like how directtv isn’t pretending that basically every other Yankees game is on tv anyways.

Conrad and Thurston in at 2nd and 3rd respectivly

"...four innings to determine who makes the team." Da Da Da!!!

How did the scoring happen?

2 unearned for the Tigers...2 RBI for McLouth

McCann (2 runs) and McLouth (2 RBIs).

Sorry I am late here…dog and pony show for a general who just left my office.

Games tied.

Announcers love Jason Heyward. That should catch you up

Oh and Heyward took Verlander for a 11 pitch at bat. After being down 0-2. It was impressive.

..who hasn’t the first clue about your job?

those are always pretty tedious.

Get any face time with the honcho?

Well, I am the OIC, so yeah. I try to let my folks do all the talking though.

Corrected. :P

Well, I am the OIC, so yeah. I try to let my folks do all the talking work though.

Justin, you getting updates now? You were having issues the other day.

Yeah, it is working perfectly now…weird.

Must have been cosmic realignment of the planets to prepare for the JH debut on opening day.

Question:

Would you trade Hanson for Verlander?

Would FYF lay off a 2 foot wide slider on a on a full count?
Don't know contract stuff

I don’t think so. V is peaking we’re just seeing Hanson emerge

No. only because Hanson is younger

A Ginger is a terrible thing to waste

Do the Waltons say goodnight in a timely fashion?

Does the Pope live in the White House?

Does Elmer Fudd have trouble with his r’s?

Does hair gel strangely feel like half melted jello?
Verlander just signed for 5/80...

so with that in mind, no. But without our bigger salary Ps, I probably would, as Verlander is what you hope Hanson becomes (a legit ace).

Heap out – fly up in foul territory.

Walk by Glaus.

JH popped up in the infield.
2 outs.

He also tore a hole in the o-zone layer

off the knight that says Ni

So that makes Nate 2-2 today with 2 RBI.

Nice to see him bounce back...

but with him doing it lower, does that make a Melky/Diaz leadoff platoon?

Omar PH for Lowe.
2 outs, 2 on base

Infante started in the 8 hole

so Lowe or a PH would be next

Thanks – was listening more than watching – and heard PH for Lowe – must have been Hinske on deck.
 Thanks for the correction.

McLousy and McLout....

seems to be turning back in to regular Mclouth. Good because those nicknames would have sucked the life out of me.

meeting time…brb.

I walked away, what happened?

I’m sure glad Leyland wanted the knight that says Ni to take over

Pitch in the dirt – score from 3rd.
4-2 now.

Hustle! I like it

Wow, who knew Hinske could move like that!

Hinske out ran the pitcher to 1st!
Omar scores from 3rd.

Verlander in line to get the loss.
come on melky way

They said Brooksy on deck.

Cabrera ground ball – out 3.

How are you Jason, I mean Justin?

Freudian slip.

One question about your day. and then lets talk about Jason Heyward.

uh....uh.....uh.....uh....uh

enough with the uhs verlander

Yay, audio is up on AT BAT

is it just me or does verlander look a little bit like luke wilson?

Yeah, now that you said it, he does a little bit,

plus, he sounds like a really nice guy.

Good inning for Proctor...

Proctor did well. No runs.

think espn will be behind the

heyward for ROY/MVP this year?

they sure like him today

only if he changes jerseys this year
heyward for arod jeter and teix?

yanks pay all their salaries?

exactly, and while they're at it they'll also pay my salary as a part of the deal
then espn

will get on the ROY/MVP bandwagon

Oh, I see what you did there…

It all depends on how he plays.

Brooksy at the plate.

and we have to look at Damon, ugh

Fly out to RF.

Thurston at the plate.
Fly ball out.

Freeman with a hit up the middle.

who was that after Freeman? with the fly-out?

Who was out 3? It happened so quick (pop up in foul territory) I didn’t get to see and of course they didn’t say.

I think it may have been Sammons.

I think it was Hicks?

I was thinking Hicks, too. too much valentine-damon chatter.

I tried checking Box score – but it’s not updated yet.

Sammons – Box Score updated and he just helped with the last out.

Fantasy Baseball Question

I just wrapped up my first season of fantasy football, where as a rookie GM I won our league championship. I am really itching to play some Fantasy Baseball this year. Anyone have a preference for a FB service. I am currently with ESPN and did a mock draft earlier this week. Should I stick with ESPN or is there a better free FB service out there. ESPN will let me join any open public league so that is a consideration also as I can’t get enough bums here at work to commit to FB.

i really enjoy yahoo...

piece of advice: draft lots and lots of pitchers (especially closers). by mid-year, closers are worth their weight in gold on the trade market.
and, for most leagues, there are 2 SP slots, 3 P slots (can be either) and 2 RP slots. So, if you draft, say 10 pitchers (6 starters and 4 closers) , you will probably win K’s, wins, and saves weekly, and your era and whip will be a lot more consistent.

just a thought.

Thanks.

I realized after I posted that, this may not have been the right place for this post so I apologize for that.

I do appreciate the input. I will check out Yahoo and see if they let you hop into any public League?

Saito in the 8th, Wagner in the 9th? Cox has changed gears for the final 10 days

Wags loosening up.

Great inning for Saito!

Heyward a hit.
And out of the game now.

Boo Hiss.. Bobby pulls Heyward

Almost no point of watching anymore.

that little boy

smoked that ball

Heyward,

singles

JH putting headset on.. interview forthcoming.

heres heyward....
Heyward giving an interview
just got home

quickly skimmed through but must of missed how we got our fifth run????

McCann is such a bum.

He’s only hitting .500 for the Spring.

I agree, I think he needs to start the season with Gwinnette to knock some of the rust off….LOL

Please

send him to rookie ball

Haha “I see EVERYTHING”

lol jason heyward is omnipotent

he sees us typing about

him seeing us type

Ya know, we post while watching the games – you would think these “professionals” could tell us who is at bat etc. while conducting an interview as well.

Heyward demands everyone’s undivided attention. :P

WTH kind of questioning is this? He’s a great baseball player. Nuff said.

softballs—letting us hear him talk. his answers straight out of ’Bull Durham"

smart answers!

I noticed that too the other day…..I am waiting for him to verbatim say, “I am just here to help the ball club.”, and “You have to take ’em one day at a time”….LOL

I thought they were going to ask him about his jersey #,

but , no can do. I really wanted to know that…..

I’ve heard or read it will be 22

I had heard that,

but was not sure.

They were too busy making sure he knew and understood he was not just a baseball player, but an AA ambassador for his sport too. Today’s announcement and making the team is important day for him and they should have left it lighthearted. All IMO of course.

Meanwhile, back at the game...

Hicks wasted several pitches before grounding out to third – runner to second.
Blanco also grounded out to third.
Young flied out to center – end of 8th… Still 5-2 Bravos.

Is that what really happened? I thought they stopped the game for a while

Wags on the hill.
TOP NINE - Wags in to close the deal.

Diaz (the other one) strikes out on a bunch of pitches.
Raburn up. 2-1.

Thats the difference between Esco and Hicks

Raburn eats up Hicks (I guess)… dunno how to score that. Runner on first, 1 down.

Valentine with no balls to answer the “where do you think the Braves will end up this year” question.

He’s called the Mets in the WS… idiot

One too many years managing in Japan.

Told them to ask him again at mid season break.
What a wuss – even Ray Charles could venture a guess at ASBreak.

Anderson: 3-2 count…strikeout swinging. TWO DOWN.

Wasn’t that former Braves player Josh Anderson?

Was listed as “B” Anderson… dunno otherwise.

FUGA

oh, wait.

anyone else hate

the everyone clap your hands thing? i refuse to clap.

Ouch 93mp FB smoked to LF.
5-3 and 2 outs.

Well, that's just no good, Billy

Bonine up: strike 1, strike 2, now 2-2… ball three.
Runner to second on WP… whoops, double to left scores him.
5-3 now.

B Dlugach batting.
Strike, Foul, ball… 1-2 count. Strike three looking. GAME OVER.

Braves win… drive home safely…
Braves now 13-8; Detroit falls to 14-9 this spring.

We Win!

I gotta get me some o’dat this weekend!

Hell yeah, trying to make it to the game on Sun.

Woohoo! That’s the game!

See everyone later

Final 5-3 Braves
Good game, except for questionable performances by Glaus and Wagner
Enjoyed sharing the game with y'all!

METS 8, FLA 8 – 5th inning.
WASH 7, STL 4. 6th inning.
Phillies-Yanks tonight.

Well done McLouth

Slump or no slump, Nate did pretty well out there. Hope he continues to be successful.

Does anybody know where I can re-watch the game if that's possible???

check ESPN at like 4AM this morning…they always re-air games that were on earlier. I’m thinking it might be the NBA games tonight tho…
