We get another televised game today, once again on ESPN, as the Braves host the Tigers. You can bet that the ESPN announcers will be talking about our right fielder non-stop for at least the first hour. I'm actually okay with that.
Melky Cabrera, LF
Martin Prado, 2B
Chipper Jones, 3B
Brian McCann, C
Troy Glaus, 1B
Jason Heyward, RF
Nate McLouth, CF
Omar Infante, SS
Derek Lowe, P
Following Derek Lowe on the mound will be Billy Wagner, Takashi Saito, and Scott Proctor. Meanwhile, Peter Moylan and Jo-Jo Reyes will appear on the backfields in a hi-A Myrtle Beach game against the Nationals' team.
I need to find a bar near my office with the game on and go watch for my lunching hour (or hours).

That’s our starting RF batting 6th…
JKowalek - March 26, 2010
That's what I hear. :)
HEYJUDE - March 26, 2010
Talking Chop has an office? Hot damn!
10-4 - March 26, 2010
Hahahahaha, like you don’t know them all already…hahahaha
Lizziebeth - March 26, 2010
I know all of the hubub is about Heyward right now, but I’m starting to like the idea of Cabrera in the leadoff spot. I realize it may be a fluid thing and Cox likes having an everyday guy like McLouth in the leadoff spot, but Cabrera seems to thrive in the tablesetter role while McLouth’s mindset would be better in an RBI spot.
Either way I don’t think its going to matter too much, but Cabrera’s versatility and flexiblity in the lineup is really starting endear me to him.
bbxxj - March 26, 2010
now that we know what's happening with Heyward...
i want this lineup opening day:
Cabrera
Prado
Chipper
Glaus
BMac
Heyward
Esco
McLouth
and against a lefty…..
Diaz
Prado
Chipper
Glaus
BMac
Esco
Heyward
McLouth
Scott Coleman - March 26, 2010
I woudn’t mind seeing Cabrera getting a fair share of PT in CF against LHP as McLouth had some pretty nasty splits last year.
I don’t think we should have a ‘set’ lineup either way, but start Cabrera mostly at leadoff with Diaz getting some time there, and then start Diaz and McLouth in the 8th spot where they are going to get a nice chunk of RBI opps because of Esco and Heyward’s nifty OBPs in front of them. Dang thats a deep lineup….
bbxxj - March 26, 2010
I’m not crazy about the Mac/Glaus flip. I think Mac hits better in the 5 with all the “power” pressure off. Just let him hit and it will come. And I think we’ll be seeing alot of the MelkMan in the OF whereever it may be. Good defense and can give us alot of options with the lineup.
JKowalek - March 26, 2010
But then Melk
gets more PAs than both Diaz and McLouth, which might not make sense.
Mr. Sanchez - March 26, 2010
Interesting flip with McCann and Glaus
eaheckman10 - March 26, 2010
Interesting that Melky is leading off and Nate is down.
justincredubil02 - March 26, 2010
I like it. We need to have an RBI man batting 8th if we are going to bat Heyward/Escobar 6/7 or 7/6. I know I have already said this, but Melky has that leadoff ‘mentality’ that is needed in that spot and McLouth has the RBI ‘mentality’ needed down in the order. I don’t by into needing a certian mentality too often but I think it is relevent in this situation.
bbxxj - March 26, 2010
Heyward will wear #22
in case anyone missed it.
Scott Coleman - March 26, 2010
where did you see that?
JKowalek - March 26, 2010
Carroll Rogers at the AJC

GoBravesNY - March 26, 2010

JKowalek - March 26, 2010
Way cool – 222 has always been my lucky number.
NCChopper - March 26, 2010
you don’t see many 3 digit lucky numbers.
JKowalek - March 26, 2010
It’s bizarre I know, but you would be amazed at how many times it was come to play in my life.
NCChopper - March 26, 2010
hey more power to you.
JKowalek - March 26, 2010
213 always recurs for me…
Lizziebeth - March 26, 2010
I always manage to look at the clock at exactly 10:19, which is weird because its my birthday. It never fails.
But #22 is my favorite jersey number, so this is good news.
10-4 - March 26, 2010
Ok, I always look at the clock at the same time everyday, but no one believes me when I say that.
Gage23 - March 26, 2010
It’s even so known by people who know me – my family and friends will e-mail or call me to tell me they had a “222” moment and thought of me.
I was born at 2:22 and find myself constantly noticing that time on the clock.
Eerie really.

Wore my shirt yesterday to bowling and had to explain to at least 30 people who was on the front. Found a man bowling on another set of lanes with a Braves hat on – we had a great conversation about the upcoming season…he’s looking forward to this year too. And, yes HE knew who it was.
NCChopper - March 26, 2010
This!
Go Braves!
HEYJUDE - March 26, 2010

Thanks.

"We want to keep our expectations, with common sense," Cox said. "Everybody is going to think he’s going to hit 40 home runs, hit .330 and drive in 150 runs."
Funny, I thought he was going to hit 65 home runs and knock in 190
eaheckman10 - March 26, 2010
right….. your expectations are common sense
JKowalek - March 26, 2010
imo,
the braves will be using all 4 outfielders and it really doesnt matter who’s in the starting lineup day 1. imo, each outfielder will need regular off days for one reason or another.
ryan c - March 26, 2010
OK, didn’t Derek Lowe COMPLAIN about being involved in trade talks?
eaheckman10 - March 26, 2010
9 pitch inning for Lowe
HEYJUDE - March 26, 2010

Hahaha. That he did.

Nate Mcloud?
Nice Bobby V… And all joking aside, for them to say that Verlander woke up this morning thinking about how to get Heyward out? Oh geez.. Looks like ESPN has as big of a crush on Heyward as all Braves fans

Maybe it’ll get us some TV time.
Gage23 - March 26, 2010
McLoud?
What, does he fly an Ar-wing?
Bronn - March 26, 2010
Let's called Defense Exhibit A
If you’re worried about Heyward handling major league pitching. Verlander is as good as there is in the Majors. Runner up for the Cy Young last year, with some nasty pitches and great heat. Heyward took him 11 pitches, fouled off everything, worked the count full. He certainly wasn’t outmatched, even though Verlander went through nearly his full repertoire.

Yeah we got away with one.
mikesatx - March 26, 2010
It looked like he missed initially but I think him he got him on a second effort once he has already passed.
Gage23 - March 26, 2010
On the back foot maybe?
El Soro - March 26, 2010
looked like on the back of his calf
Gage23 - March 26, 2010
I think if it wasn’t spring training, he would have dove in front of him more.
McCann and McWill - March 26, 2010
Man
I wish McLouth was that aggressive in CF. Cant wait till Schafer is back in CF
drumzalicious - March 26, 2010

mikesatx - March 26, 2010
mikesatx - March 26, 2010

mikesatx - March 26, 2010
lol
if Heyward bunted that would be hilarious
drumzalicious - March 26, 2010
I always feel a little sad when McCann stands up from diving and wipes himself off. Especially after that awesome triple a couple years ago on Chipper’s birthday. Boog said his dive registered on the Rictor Scale.
Gage23 - March 26, 2010
For anyone who wants to see it again…

Bravely going forward - March 26, 2010
I'm gonna say we made the right call there...
sign Damon, and Diaz would be gone.
Mr. Sanchez - March 26, 2010
From shallow center, he couldn’t get it to the infirld grass, that is really sad
bighop - March 26, 2010
it really is
Bravely going forward - March 26, 2010

McCann and McWill - March 26, 2010
Frank Wren was just heard laughing in the Executive Suite
El Soro - March 26, 2010
You realize that Wren tried to sign Damon, and only didn’t because there wasn’t enough room in the budget, right?
Lennox - March 26, 2010
Oh yeah...I know the laughing was hysterical, mind you
El Soro - March 26, 2010
Frank Wren was laughing cause he read my post.
I’m the humblest.
McCann and McWill - March 26, 2010

mikesatx - March 26, 2010
Way to go, Nate!
He’s gonna be fine; the ST slump was annoying/worrying, but he’s getting it together going into Opening Day
skymuse - March 26, 2010
I think it was on purpose to get himself out of the leadoff spot.
McCann and McWill - March 26, 2010
Bobby V keeps saying he’ll be on fire by opening day, he might be right, hope so

/not trying to be a hater
//trying to stay positive today
El Soro - March 26, 2010
I agree. I wasn’t thrilled with that.
BullManUGA - March 26, 2010
I just thought of a Heywardism
Heyward always wears sunglasses at games to hide the fact that he is actually sleeping. In reality, he hits skyrocket homers, throws batters out before they can blink, and steals bases while hes taking a nap. If he were to play awake, we might all die from awe
Dawg013 - March 26, 2010
Thats quality.
McCann and McWill - March 26, 2010
Anyone see the matchups for Deadliest Warrior season 2? I’m stoked
GoBravesNY - March 26, 2010

GoBravesNY - March 26, 2010
Uh, that was hit to right field and McLouth snagged it. Was Heyward playing in the dirt or something?
BullManUGA - March 26, 2010
CF project?
chipper4mvp10 - March 26, 2010
First base is gonna be an adventure this year.
bravos1984 - March 26, 2010
Yea that was an interesting way to get in front of the ball.
McCann and McWill - March 26, 2010
I don't know...Glaus only played 5 minutes last year, and before that was a career 3B
El Soro - March 26, 2010
At the risk of being yelled at – LaRoche would have had that.
NCChopper - March 26, 2010
Just focus on all of the singles he hits.
McCann and McWill - March 26, 2010
Yeah but,
I only hits every other month or so.
I Saw Buzz Beaned - March 26, 2010
Reply fail
He not I
I Saw Buzz Beaned - March 26, 2010
I’m likely in the minority, but I would have liked to see him back this year to see if he could hit the entire year instead of a first baseman in training.
NCChopper - March 26, 2010
I’m with you.
Gage23 - March 26, 2010
Almost anyone would have had that … Just a brain fart play.

aha. thanks
GoBravesNY - March 26, 2010

Announcers love Jason Heyward. That should catch you up
McCann and McWill - March 26, 2010
Oh and Heyward took Verlander for a 11 pitch at bat. After being down 0-2. It was impressive.

El Soro - March 26, 2010

sleezer1788 - March 26, 2010

Mr. Sanchez - March 26, 2010
Omar PH for Lowe.
2 outs, 2 on base
NCChopper - March 26, 2010
Infante started in the 8 hole
so Lowe or a PH would be next
Mr. Sanchez - March 26, 2010
Thanks – was listening more than watching – and heard PH for Lowe – must have been Hinske on deck.
Thanks for the correction.
NCChopper - March 26, 2010

chipper4mvp10 - March 26, 2010
exactly, and while they're at it they'll also pay my salary as a part of the deal
El Soro - March 26, 2010
then espn

chipper4mvp10 - March 26, 2010

El Soro - March 26, 2010
It all depends on how he plays.
HEYJUDE - March 26, 2010

NCChopper - March 26, 2010
who was that after Freeman? with the fly-out?
rawleigh - March 26, 2010
Who was out 3? It happened so quick (pop up in foul territory) I didn’t get to see and of course they didn’t say.
NCChopper - March 26, 2010
I think it may have been Sammons.
sleezer1788 - March 26, 2010
I think it was Hicks?
NCChopper - March 26, 2010
I was thinking Hicks, too. too much valentine-damon chatter.
rawleigh - March 26, 2010
I tried checking Box score – but it’s not updated yet.
NCChopper - March 26, 2010
Sammons – Box Score updated and he just helped with the last out.
NCChopper - March 26, 2010

Fantasy Baseball Question
I just wrapped up my first season of fantasy football, where as a rookie GM I won our league championship. I am really itching to play some Fantasy Baseball this year. Anyone have a preference for a FB service. I am currently with ESPN and did a mock draft earlier this week. Should I stick with ESPN or is there a better free FB service out there. ESPN will let me join any open public league so that is a consideration also as I can’t get enough bums here at work to commit to FB.
demsei - March 26, 2010
i really enjoy yahoo...
piece of advice: draft lots and lots of pitchers (especially closers). by mid-year, closers are worth their weight in gold on the trade market.
and, for most leagues, there are 2 SP slots, 3 P slots (can be either) and 2 RP slots. So, if you draft, say 10 pitchers (6 starters and 4 closers) , you will probably win K’s, wins, and saves weekly, and your era and whip will be a lot more consistent.
just a thought.

Thanks.
I realized after I posted that, this may not have been the right place for this post so I apologize for that.
I do appreciate the input. I will check out Yahoo and see if they let you hop into any public League?
demsei - March 26, 2010
Saito in the 8th, Wagner in the 9th? Cox has changed gears for the final 10 days
bighop - March 26, 2010

Heyward giving an interview
HEYJUDE - March 26, 2010

bpk228480 - March 26, 2010
McCann is such a bum.
He’s only hitting .500 for the Spring.
Bronn - March 26, 2010
I agree, I think he needs to start the season with Gwinnette to knock some of the rust off….LOL
demsei - March 26, 2010
Please
send him to rookie ball
Erihury - March 26, 2010
Haha “I see EVERYTHING”
Gage23 - March 26, 2010

bpk228480 - March 26, 2010
he sees us typing about
him seeing us type
chipper4mvp10 - March 26, 2010
Ya know, we post while watching the games – you would think these “professionals” could tell us who is at bat etc. while conducting an interview as well.
NCChopper - March 26, 2010
Heyward demands everyone’s undivided attention. :P
bravos1984 - March 26, 2010
WTH kind of questioning is this? He’s a great baseball player. Nuff said.
NCChopper - March 26, 2010
softballs—letting us hear him talk. his answers straight out of ’Bull Durham"
rawleigh - March 26, 2010
smart answers!
rawleigh - March 26, 2010
I noticed that too the other day…..I am waiting for him to verbatim say, “I am just here to help the ball club.”, and “You have to take ’em one day at a time”….LOL
demsei - March 26, 2010
I thought they were going to ask him about his jersey #,
but , no can do. I really wanted to know that…..
HEYJUDE - March 26, 2010
22
chipper4mvp10 - March 26, 2010
Thanks
HEYJUDE - March 26, 2010
I’ve heard or read it will be 22
bighop - March 26, 2010
I had heard that,
but was not sure.
HEYJUDE - March 26, 2010
They were too busy making sure he knew and understood he was not just a baseball player, but an AA ambassador for his sport too. Today’s announcement and making the team is important day for him and they should have left it lighthearted. All IMO of course.
NCChopper - March 26, 2010
I agree
HEYJUDE - March 26, 2010
Meanwhile, back at the game...
Hicks wasted several pitches before grounding out to third – runner to second.
Blanco also grounded out to third.
Young flied out to center – end of 8th… Still 5-2 Bravos.
carpengui - March 26, 2010
Is that what really happened? I thought they stopped the game for a while
bighop - March 26, 2010
Wags on the hill.
HEYJUDE - March 26, 2010
TOP NINE - Wags in to close the deal.
Diaz (the other one) strikes out on a bunch of pitches.
Raburn up. 2-1.
carpengui - March 26, 2010
Thats the difference between Esco and Hicks
GoBravesNY - March 26, 2010
Raburn eats up Hicks (I guess)… dunno how to score that. Runner on first, 1 down.
carpengui - March 26, 2010
Valentine with no balls to answer the “where do you think the Braves will end up this year” question.
NCChopper - March 26, 2010
He’s called the Mets in the WS… idiot
GoBravesNY - March 26, 2010
I agree
If WS stands for Winning Seventy.
Bronn - March 26, 2010
That is classic
bighop - March 26, 2010
Rec’d
Gage23 - March 26, 2010
One too many years managing in Japan.
bravos1984 - March 26, 2010
Told them to ask him again at mid season break.
What a wuss – even Ray Charles could venture a guess at ASBreak.
NCChopper - March 26, 2010
lmao....
HEYJUDE - March 26, 2010
Anderson: 3-2 count…strikeout swinging. TWO DOWN.
carpengui - March 26, 2010
Wasn’t that former Braves player Josh Anderson?
rawleigh - March 26, 2010
Was listed as “B” Anderson… dunno otherwise.
carpengui - March 26, 2010
FUGA

Bronn - March 26, 2010

the everyone clap your hands thing? i refuse to clap.
chipper4mvp10 - March 26, 2010
Ouch 93mp FB smoked to LF.
5-3 and 2 outs.
NCChopper - March 26, 2010
Well, that's just no good, Billy
El Soro - March 26, 2010
Bonine up: strike 1, strike 2, now 2-2… ball three.
Runner to second on WP… whoops, double to left scores him.
5-3 now.
carpengui - March 26, 2010
B Dlugach batting.
Strike, Foul, ball… 1-2 count. Strike three looking. GAME OVER.
Braves win… drive home safely…
Braves now 13-8; Detroit falls to 14-9 this spring.
carpengui - March 26, 2010
We Win!
NCChopper - March 26, 2010
I gotta get me some o’dat this weekend!

GoBravesNY - March 26, 2010

El Soro - March 26, 2010
Enjoyed sharing the game with y'all!
NCChopper - March 26, 2010

Slump or no slump, Nate did pretty well out there. Hope he continues to be successful.
Portland_Braves_Fan - March 26, 2010
Does anybody know where I can re-watch the game if that's possible???
deewill23 - March 26, 2010
