Jason Heyward will be the Atlanta Braves Opening Day Right Fielder

From an Tweet by AJC beat writer Carroll Rogers:

Cox announced today that Jason Heyward has made the team and will be Braves opening day right fielder.

There you have it! Financial considerations be damned, and for good reason, Heyward is the best option for the Braves in right field. Congratulation to Jay-Hey... let the new era of Braves baseball begin.

UPDATE 12:45pm

According to the Braves twitter feed, Heyward will wear uniform number 22.

Haithcock approves.

Oh, GOD! No more of here this year… really.

That’s no more of “her”

"Her"

Haha.

Funny that her name is Haithcock...

and she could be the inspiration for Ms. Chokesondick

*Vomits uncontrollably everywhere

I know what you’re reading.

To quote the Great One...

Who in the BLUE HELL is that?

You may as well be asking who Chipper Jones is.

I’m a newbie, I don’t know who that is either…but I’m getting the feeling I should HATE her. Am I right?

I dare you to say that to her face.

LOL

nah…I think she’s got a bigger jaw than I do

Jason Heyward is so good, if he said Mrs. Haithcock was attractive, we would all want some…..man or woman.

LOL

Since when is the identity of a HS athletic director common knowledge?

K...

So far I know she’s a HS athletic director. Anything else? Lemme guess, did Chipper play there?

She's just a special woman.

Why does she have an account registered with the site?

Next thing you know

We’re going to start wondering why Randy Gress isn’t on the team.

Randy Gress hits homers off Jason Heyward’s homers from the previous day.

The kids call this

a “forced meme”

Unfortunately, far too many have accepted it.

That just made my day sir.

Congrats Jase!!!

Lots of celebrating will be happening around the TC today.

I certainly hope so! Woo hoo!!

To The TC family, JHey, FW, the Atlanta Braves and the run the phillies HAD

I have opening day tckets..........but won't be able to go!!!

Hook a brother up…..

Wifey's going and taking the Flip recorder with her!

Bubb Rubb sighting

Now I’m really stoked for the season!

“THE WHISTLES GO WOOOOOOO WOOOOOOO…That’s only in the the moanin’, you should be up cooking breakfast or sumthin’, its like an alarm clock…”

“Iz jus fer decerashun yall, jus fer decerashun”

My cousin actually bought some whistle tips off the internet, and put one in the tailpipe of my truck over Christmas when i wasn’t home. He didn’t weld them thank goodness, but when i cranked my truck up and i heard whistling, i just kep revving it until it stopped. I had no idea what he had done, but found out shortly after that i had blown my whistle tips out the tailpipe.

i had blown my whistle tips out the tailpipe

TWSS

i’m not hip enough to know what that means.

That’s what she said.

ahhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh

+1

I was just thinking about Bubb Rubb the other day. “It’s like an alarm clock!”

They should of been up cooking breakfast or something anyways..

my gamertag was inspired by that first gif…my cat goes woo

So stoked...

With all the crap that’s hit the fan lately in my life, beinga able to be so excited about the team this year really softens the blow

Lifes a roller coaster, you will be back on top before you know it..

Hoping so

YESSSSS

this just made opening day that much better

So what happens to some of these Milky Melky Cabrera types? In other words, who’s the odd man out and where does he go?

I’d say Marek is off the 40-man.

Or FUMA.

Either way, Melky is on the roster and playing quite a bit, I imagine.

Nah

Diory Hernandez is going on the DL, to clear a spot for Heyward. I think CB (sorry of it was someone else) had a post about it a while back

Has Diory been DL’d yet? If it hasn’t happened yet, I don’t see it happening soon.

CBs post was speculative (not that it was bad or anything – it was a great read), but he was making the point that IF Diory got DL’d it could be a really good thing for Atlanta.

I imagine he would be…isn’t he going to be out until mid-season

I know that he had surgery, but according to this, he was never put on the DL: http://www.cbssports.com/mlb/teams/transactions/ATL

Of course he wasn't yet.

There is no need. He’ll go on the DL when Heyward is added, which won’t be until right before the start of the season.

Apparently, Redmond is the odd man out – unless they plan on keeping Thurston AND Conrad, and using Diory’s spot for Heyward.

They actually took Todd Redmond off yesterday, and he cleared waivers and goes to Gwinnett. So i’m sure Heyward takes Redmond’s spot.

Ah, there we go. Gracias, senor.

ahhhhhhh!!!!!

just texted 5 friends and posted it to my facebook twice hahaha. So excited!

Sections 125 - 143...

may never have a vacant seat ever again.

AHHHHHH

Let’s start this season right now!

Torn.

Very excited to see him out there from Opening Day forward but would like to have that extra year two weeks in Gwinnett would have bought us.

What would it matter if he signs a long-term deal before he’s eligible for arbitration? I wouldn’t be surprised to see him sign a long-term deal before the end of this season. Use Longoria’s contract as an example.

And by the time that happens, we’ll be done with Chipper and Lowe’s contracts, which frees up $30 million right there. Plus count in Billy Wagner and Saito and there is another $10+ million gone. Now I know others will have received raises, etc. But we’ll have the money for him.

I’m all for this move, regardless of any financial implications.

it matters in terms of bargaining power…Heyward’s FA will start in 2015 opposed to 2016 now…most players only sign long term deals through thier arb years…well we just lost one year of control…so even if he signs that dela through arbitration (which is more than likely going to happen, it seems) we still have him fro one less year.

The bargaining position isn't that much different.

It is just that he would be bargaining on a free agent year instead of a fourth arbitration year, and there just isn’t that much difference there. If we had held him down for two months, it would have made a difference, but not two weeks.

That is IF he walks as a free agent...

for all you know, he’s another Chipper, McCann, etc about to spend his entire career with a tomahawk on his chest.

Im optimistic, but I def. see that happening.

ur absolutely right…as we have stated before we don’t know what he wants…i just happen to think its prudent to plan for the worse and rejoice when you’re wrong

Wouldn't "the worse"...

be Nick Adenhart, at which point he never reaches free agency (cold, I know)? Basically, worse is he busts like French, or suffers a debilitating injury early in his career, at which point service time means nothing.

This

In fact, I think this show of good faith on the Braves part could be part of the negotiations:

FW: “Jase, we don’t want to screw around, whadya say we buy out your arb years and go $50m/12. We’re not trying to screw you, after all we could have held you down until June but didn’t.”

JH: “Hmm…good point. Eric, what do you think?”

EH: “Never turn down your first million.”

Although maybe I’m just living in denial.

Heyward for America

Glad to see Wren & Co. made the right choice in these turbulent political times. A vote for J-Hey is a vote for freedom.

I just bought opening day tickets because of this.

and that is what Wren and the FO are hoping for,

by making this announcement, they are hoping “he” will boost ticket sells!

it was f*cking emberassing last year when we were making our crazy run in September and they were giving away tickets to put fans in the stands.

You think that was embarrassing? Try being a Jaguars fan.

haha, from what i’ve heard they don;t have any?

No, we have a lot, just not many go to the games.

I would have been there every game if I could have. The 2 hour drive from Chattanooga is annoying though.

Sweet!!!

3 words….Rookie of the Year!

Counting Fail...

…4 words

Son of a....

Epic fail…I knew it as soon as I hit the post button…LMAO

Maybe....

unless Wash brings up Strasburg.

Heyward ought to get some PAs against snazzy Strazzy… that’ll be fun to watch.

He did is the AFL. I think he walked him.

They never faced each other in the AFL.

Trust me, my brother is a Nats fan. There is a bet involved regarding their first meeting. They have never faced each other.

correct

they didn’t face eachother. trust me…if they were gonna face eachother in the AFL i would’ve been up in Phoenix before you could say “i wanna have jason heyward’s babies”

I know Stras pitched against Peoria, i thought JHey was still there then. My bad.

your brother is a Nats fan?

eeeewwwwww! Glad my brother is a Braves fan, don’t have to deal with that fight.

Strasburg

won’t be called up until June in all likelihood. A full year of J-Hey will beat that out for sure.

How bout 5 words?

World Series Most Valuable Player

Congrats to Jay Hey!

As if this is a surprise to any of us die hard fans. Congrats to Jay Hey for his performance and Frank Wren for his willingness to ignore the financial element and put the best team possible on the field. Looking forward to seeing Jason in right field for many years to come!

they NEVER "ignore" financial elements

Baseball-wise, it’s an obvious choice.

Wren et al must have also concluded that financially they gain more from having him in big boy pants (i.e., ticket sales, significant boost to win pctg, etc.) than whatever they would gain from contract timing games.

Or, they just plan on buying him out of arb and a few FA years, and think this will show some good faith.

So Awesome!

That’s what I am talking bout!

Consequences be damned…I’m stoked!

Great news!

(And I say that regardless of the fact that he’s on my fantasy team!)

lol

Hopefully he is everything that you expect him to be!

I will be sacrifcing much whiskey

Unto my liver tonight, in honor of J-Hey.

Great news!!!

I love it. NSYNC loves it. Everybody dance!

Photobucket

I like how

Timberlake is shaking his buns for J-Hey.

haha

probably not the first time he’s shaken his buns for another guy

A Great Time to Live in the ATL

I wish I did, but i’ll see him in PHX for sure! Congratzzzzzzzzzz Jason!

We'll be rollin' come April 5th

Please be going downhill. :P

Oh god, lance it, lance it!

That really was unnecessary.

But Chino approves...

Alright

I can already hear the fantasy points rolling in.

I got him, too.

you must have some special ears if you can hear fantasy points.

Just heightened senses.

I can smell them too. I just prefer hearing them.

I can taste them

Bobby put his foot down!

He said, “If this is going to be my last year, give me the horses to win it all!”

Love it!

Hopefully he can put his other foot down in August and get a CF like Grady Sizemore! LOL

What about Jordan Schafer?

I think Freddie Freeman is a perfect example of how a busted wrist can really stop your development.

Give the kid time.

+1 Schafer is going to be good

Let’s not get carried away now.

PUT HIS FOOTDOWN!!

Bobby says, “Pujols or I retire now!”

Jason Heyward and Josh Smith are justifiying my decision to go to school in Atlanta only for the Braves and Hawks.

Matty D should be on that list as well.

that goes without saying
Hey Everyone...

Turn on ESPN. ZOMG! They’re actually gonna talk about us and Jason Heyward! But I thought baseball wasn’t played outside of the northeast??? Weird.

I’m not exactly sure when it’ll come on, but probably after their ARod segment.

SHIT. i can’t find the CLICKER

I don’t know where the clicker is, but the remote is probably in between the cushions of your couch.

Bad call. No one will remember the first two weeks of this season in 6 years when Heyward is signing his monster deal with the Yankees. When we could have had him for another year.

Debbie downer. This is a celebration thread.

no. no. no.

in 3 seasons, Chipper’s, Huddy’s, DLowe’s, KK’s, Wagner’s and McLouth’s contracts will be off the books. Just adding it up in my head…that’s about $55-$60MM.

We’ll have money to pay him. There’s no doubt about it.

Agreed.

Chipper, DLowe, and Wagner will both be retired by then. I can potentially see Huddy still being there but that’s all from that list.

This will work out.

Correction..

ALL be retired

Theres a reason we haven’t dished out bigger offers lately. We have to lock up Hanson, JHey, maybe JJ. Esco and Prado are hitting arb soon. The kid is a Brave.

Dude, Heyward would never even consider signing long term with the Braves. You’re just as stoopid as Wren and Cox, and everyone knows they are complete moranes.

yeah

and Frank Wren is a Yankees fan too cause he didn’t trade DLowe and traded out BEST PITCHER Javier Vasguez for Melky Cabrera and 2 other guys!!

Just like they got Mauer...

and Maddux, and will ultimately get Lincecum and Lee and Braun.

Bad call. No one will remember the first two weeks of this season in 6 years when Heyward is signing his monster deal with the Yankees. When we could have had him for another year.

by Perrinbar

Frenchy, is that you.

“my wife make this cheese with the milk from her tits”

“May George Bush drink the blood of every man, woman, and child in Iraq!”

I’m excited… but in all seriousness, is anyone concerned with his recent “slump”?

I know. What happens if he has an 0-8 slump during the year and he gets booed out of town….. this might be a big mistake.

I’m not saying it’s a mistake to bring him up. It’s a great idea

oh I know, I thought you were joking.

I’m serious

I’m not. Maybe if it strings to 0-20 or so (which it won’t, because he got a hit already today), but 0-10s happen with regularity.

He had two of them, actually. He has five in the last three games.

Yes…glad I got my opening weekend tickets for San Francisco!!!

Oh yeah!

May we announce this years NL Rookie of the Year! So excited to see this guy play every day!

This just in....

In light of the announcement of Jason Heyward as the Braves starting right-fielder, every other team in Major League Baseball has decided to forfeit the next 15 seasons, accepting the fact that there is really no point in trying to compete with perfection.

love the double deuce
Marcus Giles on Heyward deciding to wear #22

oh Marcus, what happened to you?

This is relevant to my interests.
