on the mound for the Fish, right?

"I'm about to head onto the field"
Want a cookie?
Thanks Gondee
BeantownVol - March 16, 2010
Hicks?
Interesting.
Mr. Sanchez - March 16, 2010
Very Interesting
He’s getting a prolonged look, can’t imagine they’d stick him on the bench to start the year as it’d be better if he could play everyday in AAA, but a great sign
abravesfan - March 16, 2010
Heyward, batting 2nd?
I think it’s not a bad idea.
Jose Rodriguez - March 16, 2010
not at all with his OBP and line driving
BeantownVol - March 16, 2010
I have a question...
This is off topic but for fantasy reasons I’m wondering what the word is on Jason Heyward. I hear he is a beast but do you think he will 1) Make the team 2) be a bench guy 3) become a starter? Sorry I don’t know much about him. I’m actually an Astros fan….Yes, I know they are terrible :) Thanks for the help and good luck this season.
wescox10 - March 16, 2010
If he makes the team he will be starting and all signs point to him making the team so far in ST. He may be spelled on occation against tough lefties by some combo of Diaz or Melky, but I get the feeling he will see over 500 PA this year.
bbxxj - March 16, 2010 via mobile
Wrong crowd to ask that question to…lol
justincredubil02 - March 16, 2010
Not a viable option
I wouldn’t draft him unless you want to get him with a last round pick and hope he’s the ROY. He’s probably only going to be a 1 category fantasy player (BA). I doubt he plays every day. I doubt he cracks 15 HRs, 50 RBI or 8 SBs. Worst-case scenario is he struggles early on a la Schafer and gets sent down to Gwinett. I know that someone in my draft this Sunday will draft him cuz we’re all Braves fans, but I won’t.
And I completely hope that I’m 100% wrong.
Fatvirus - March 16, 2010
Lets all hope he doesn’t injure his wrist in the first game of the season. I know i couldn’t hit .280-.300 one handed.
Buttafuco13 - March 16, 2010
Jason Heyward can hit .300 with one broken wrist and the other hand tied behind his back.
J-Freak - March 16, 2010
Thanks for the info guys. I could just leave him as a FA and try and be one of the first to pick him up if he catches fire. He’s on my radar.
wescox10 - March 16, 2010
Fatvirus, there is one implausible scenario there.
If he is up, he will play more or less every day. The Braves have already said that (that he’ll be playing more or less every day either in Atlanta or Gwinnett) and honestly, to do anything is would be horribly dumb. You don’t stunt a 20 yr. old stud prospect’s development by making him a bench player. Either you have a spot and you play him or you send him down and play him there. If he plays fulltime the full season, he’ll certainly crack 50 RBI and have a good number of runs, too, due to the OBP. The HR’s are a tricky question because he is more or a line drive hitter than a HR hitter, but he’s so strong, I think he would get 20 in a full season. As for the steals, we all know Bobby doesn’t run, so I wouldn’t be surprised if that number is low.
cavebird - March 16, 2010
Dyansty/Keeper – sell your children to draft him! One-year leagues, well not so much.
RMM - March 16, 2010
i got him for 12$
i know, A LOT, but everyone wanted him and it was at 10$ so i went to 12$.
I know, a bit dumb, but for 3 years i’ll have him for 18$ per and while that’s A LOT now, in 2012 it will be a STEAL.
apoxonbothyourhouses - March 16, 2010
ps
i got Markakis for 13$, so i could afford to go to 12 on Heyward.
apoxonbothyourhouses - March 16, 2010

BeantownVol - March 16, 2010
Melky leading off
Looks like Bobby may have finally realized he needs to explore McLouth-leading-off alternatives. Bout time.
J-Freak - March 16, 2010

HalleyGator - March 16, 2010
Yeah I think its time were try a 75/25 Diaz/Melky platoon in LF batting 1st
Diaz plays against all lefty and below average righties.
JKowalek - March 16, 2010
looks as though
Bobby is trying to let the Righties on the team face a tough righty before the season.
drumzalicious - March 16, 2010
The best part about this game
is its televised!!!
drumzalicious - March 16, 2010
Precisely
nick9314 - March 16, 2010
Anyone else
worried that we are always going to be looking for that big RH bat?
After Glaus leaves what do we do next year? sign a FA LF?
After Chip is gone and Heyward is batting 3rd who protects him in the lineup?
drumzalicious - March 16, 2010
Freddie Freeman could do it. I don’t think we’ll spend much next offseason because, well, we won’t have much money to spend. However, once KK’s contract is up after 2011 along DLowe’s and Chipper’s in 2012, I imagine we would add a big time free agent.
Scott Coleman - March 16, 2010 via mobile
Not really,
Unless you think we can afford Werth or feel comfortable trying to stick Hawpe in left, then lord no, let’s resign Matty D.
Freeman
J-Freak - March 16, 2010
well i asked
because im not to sure that Freeman would be well suited for the clean up spot. Maybe the #5/#6 spot though after that RH bat
drumzalicious - March 16, 2010
Pujols or bust in 2012.
Scott Coleman - March 16, 2010 via mobile
apparently
Howard and Pujols were rumored to get swapped
drumzalicious - March 16, 2010
heck
even the #2 spot might be good for Freeman

drumzalicious - March 16, 2010
JJ does not look good
BeantownVol - March 16, 2010
its his 2nd start
of ST.
most guys are on #3/4
drumzalicious - March 16, 2010
I'm just saying
Not doom and gloom at all. He’s pitching against the split squad and the ball is seeing to much of the plate
BeantownVol - March 16, 2010
its to be expected
1st week of ST pitchers are just really trying to get their Fastball location working. He is still essentially doing that. Remember that he is behind about 2 weeks.
Also dont forget the hitters have seen live pitching for 2 weeks now so they are way ahead of him right now
drumzalicious - March 16, 2010
No I get you
but we are seeing half of their everyday lineup and facing Johnson, you’d think he’s bit a bit more amped
BeantownVol - March 16, 2010
bwahahaha!
vooodooo - March 16, 2010
So if McLouth continues to slump
and we start Melky in CF whats the lineup?
drumzalicious - March 16, 2010
Melky
Heyward
Chip
Glaus
McCann
Esco
Diaz
Prado
yondaime4 - March 16, 2010
hmmm
i think they would keep heyward lower in the order to keep from having 3 RHB in a row
drumzalicious - March 16, 2010
truspeak, didn’t take that into account.
yondaime4 - March 16, 2010
I wouldnt mind
Prado
Heyward
Chip
Glaus
Mac
Esco
Cabrera
Diaz
drumzalicious - March 16, 2010
I could get down with that. I am still worried Prado comes back down to earth this year.
yondaime4 - March 16, 2010
Down to Earth?
2006-22YRS-42ABs-.262BA/..340OBP
2007-23YRS-59ABs-.288BA/.323OBP
2008-24YRS-228ABs-.320BA/.377OBP
2009-25YRS-450ABs-.307BA/.358OBP
In 6 Minor League Seasons (2003-2008) he hit .300BA/.353OBP.
What leads you to the down to earth assumption?
bwellnjonesco - March 16, 2010
because his major league OPS is about 75 points above his minor league career average. I’m not discounting the fact that he might be a late bloomer but I’m not 100% sold yet. If he can maintain the doubles power this season I’ll be more of a believer.
yondaime4 - March 16, 2010

I hope JJ doesn't start to pitch to his peripherals this year
He was an over-achiever last season, we might see him come back to life this season…
Mighty Healthy - March 16, 2010
Yeah I said all year his 2008 and 2009 seasons were incredibly similar.
yondaime4 - March 16, 2010
I used to think he was an over-achiever as well, however, I figured out that he just has “it”. He’s intelligent and knows what to do with the ball. Maybe he’s not overachieving afterall…
bwellnjonesco - March 16, 2010
possible, stats can’t account for the ability to wiggle out of jams
yondaime4 - March 16, 2010
You mean Wiggle%? You must not go to Fangraphs…
bwellnjonesco - March 16, 2010
lol do they really have wiggle % there?
yondaime4 - March 16, 2010
I wouldn't mind him doing that.
Doing better than his peripherals is great, of course, but his peripherals put him at about a 3.70 ERA, just like 2008. I could live with that, it is a very solid number.
cavebird - March 16, 2010
Melky down on strikes
Mighty Healthy - March 16, 2010

drumzalicious - March 16, 2010

drumzalicious - March 16, 2010
wait
how was that a walk it was only 3 balls
drumzalicious - March 16, 2010
Johnson WALKED.. 3 Pitches!
Mighty Healthy - March 16, 2010
Heyward walks on 3 pitches because the Ump awarded him a free ball because Johnson went to his mouth
yondaime4 - March 16, 2010
thanks
didnt know that
drumzalicious - March 16, 2010
also Jason heyward only needs 3 balls to get a free base.
yondaime4 - March 16, 2010
Hahaha I like that a lot.

Would you guys rather have glaus hit 30 homers or bat 550 all year?
yondaime4 - March 16, 2010
As long as he is driving in runs it doesn’t matter to me how he gets it done.
Mountngrown - March 16, 2010

what’s up with that?
RMM - March 16, 2010
might be from penalizing Johnson for going to his mouth against heyward, but I don’t know what else it would be
yondaime4 - March 16, 2010
He made the correct call
Marlin’s pitcher Johnson went to his mouth on the mound, the ump awarded a ball to the batter (Heyward), resulting in a 3-pitch walk.

RMM - March 16, 2010
Maddux
goes in before either one of them
drumzalicious - March 16, 2010
I don't think so
I’m pretty sure since Glavine never pitched in the majors last year he goes in with Maddux
eyy - March 16, 2010
He isn't eligible
He pitched last season, meaning his hall of fame clock didnt start until this year. Glavine wasn’t retired, but since he wasn’t a part of a major league team at any point last year, that puts him eligible with Maddux.
thenightstallion - March 16, 2010

drumzalicious - March 16, 2010
This

RMM - March 16, 2010

Mighty Healthy - March 16, 2010
excited to see how wagner does on this outing
chum - March 16, 2010
This
I hope he shows he’s ready,
HEYJUDE - March 16, 2010
Saito
almost got a DP to get out of it.
2 outs
drumzalicious - March 16, 2010

chum - March 16, 2010

chum - March 16, 2010

drumzalicious - March 16, 2010
yep
brndn - March 16, 2010
Ross guns the runner out at 2nd.. NO SOUP FOR YOU!
Mighty Healthy - March 16, 2010
He could be the starting catcher on most teams.
HEYJUDE - March 16, 2010
He certainly caught Braves Fever…career year last year, and he has started for teams before..
bwellnjonesco - March 16, 2010
Saito
looked pretty good after that first batter. not to bad.
drumzalicious - March 16, 2010
So I recall having a dream
That Heyward was going to be the starting short stop today.
Bronn - March 16, 2010
well, if Esco gets hurt… ;)
Fatvirus - March 16, 2010
Then we'll trade GIDP's for K's
Mighty Healthy - March 16, 2010
Hicks will be the SS
Mighty Healthy - March 16, 2010
mlb won't allow it
his presence distracts the hitters
brndn - March 16, 2010
HaHa
HEYJUDE - March 16, 2010
hicks got spiked
chum - March 16, 2010
I wish
we could fuse McCann and Ross into a switch hitting monster of a catcher with amazing defense
drumzalicious - March 16, 2010
This
HEYJUDE - March 16, 2010
Jobu
would need lots of rum for that one
bighop - March 16, 2010
+1
ATLforlife - March 16, 2010
TC doesn’t like fuzing…I tried to do that with our CF situation at the beginning of last season (Schafer, Anderson, Blanco) and it was met with mostly disgust and confusion.
bwellnjonesco - March 16, 2010
hinske walks
chum - March 16, 2010
Just love our guys patience at the plate.
HEYJUDE - March 16, 2010
Just tuned in to the game...
Looks like we are starting to get some offense…
demsei - March 16, 2010
eh pop up
chum - March 16, 2010
Melky flies out to Center
Mighty Healthy - March 16, 2010
man what a cut by heyward
chum - March 16, 2010
Heyward swung out of his shoes there, yikes
Mighty Healthy - March 16, 2010
He wants to swing the bat, dang it!
Little Lady - March 16, 2010
Melky
not looking good leading off.
Heyward making a case for the lead off role
drumzalicious - March 16, 2010
wait
THAT IS THE FENCE!!!!
WHAT THE HECK!!!
drumzalicious - March 16, 2010
rips it to right center
chum - March 16, 2010
Heyward Singles
Hinske to 3B
drumzalicious - March 16, 2010
he killed that... first time i've gotten to hear the sound
brndn - March 16, 2010
Amazing isn't it.
HEYJUDE - March 16, 2010
THIS
gives me a warm fuzzy feeling!
RMM - March 16, 2010
Heyward blisters one to RF, Hinske to 3rd
Mighty Healthy - March 16, 2010
Jay-Hey
with a scorching single.
HEYJUDE - March 16, 2010
Wait
wasnt that fisted
Erihury - March 16, 2010
nope
floated over the outside part of the plate
brndn - March 16, 2010
Dude only knows how to hit the ball hard.
yondaime4 - March 16, 2010
I like Heyward batting second
Chipper will always bat with men on.
Bronn - March 16, 2010
Oddly, when he came to bat, you can tell he didn't want to WALK
He came out swinging at every pitch..
Mighty Healthy - March 16, 2010
When he wants to walk, he walks, when wants to hit, het hits…very chuck norris-ish
RMM - March 16, 2010
chip chip hooray…..chipper rips it to right
chum - March 16, 2010
Chipper singles to RF, Heyward to 3rd, Hinske scores
Mighty Healthy - March 16, 2010
Chipper
Single to RF.
Heyward goes 1st to 3B
Hinske Scores
5-3
drumzalicious - March 16, 2010
Chipper was grimacing though...
Mighty Healthy - March 16, 2010
ya know
if Chip goes down im not worried. Last year the only reliable offensive weapon we had was McCann, Prado, and Escobar.
This year its only looking like McLouth is slumping
drumzalicious - March 16, 2010
Glaus to RF..
Mighty Healthy - March 16, 2010
LF
Mighty Healthy - March 16, 2010
Glaus!
Scott Coleman - March 16, 2010
lets just call glaus butter from now on cause he’s on a roll
i know that was corny lol
chum - March 16, 2010
as long as you realize that lol
Mighty Healthy - March 16, 2010
haha i did i even questioned it before posting but decided i would lol
chum - March 16, 2010
hey, it’s ST for posters, too :)
RMM - March 16, 2010
thats right…my comments will get better i promise
chum - March 16, 2010
Heyward scores
Mighty Healthy - March 16, 2010
My man Glaus does it again, another rbi.
HEYJUDE - March 16, 2010
diaz pops up
chum - March 16, 2010
Diaz

patience seems to be gone
drumzalicious - March 16, 2010
Quick math
Heyward’s OBP now up to .645.
Bronn - March 16, 2010
with an OPS of nearly 1.450
Scott Coleman - March 16, 2010
6-3 our team
HEYJUDE - March 16, 2010
Chip and Joe were just talking about Heywards number and getting rid of that 71 when he gets into the bigs. I’m in favor of just putting the letter “X” on his jersey and calling him matches cause this man and meant to be played with.
thenightstallion - March 16, 2010
ain't not and
my iphone tried to predict that for me
thenightstallion - March 16, 2010
Nice, I like the idea..
bwellnjonesco - March 16, 2010
Although, Jason X was such a stupid film, and I would be reminded of it everytime Heyward came up…
bwellnjonesco - March 16, 2010
Good point. Perhaps a skull and cross bones then?
thenightstallion - March 16, 2010
Ideas on who should lead off this year?
HEYJUDE - March 16, 2010
Melky or Diaz or Prado with Heyward batting 2nd
Mighty Healthy - March 16, 2010
I like
HEYJUDE - March 16, 2010
Heyward nearly has to hit 2nd with his OB% in front of Chip and Glaus
bighop - March 16, 2010
I agree.
HEYJUDE - March 16, 2010
Diaz/Cabrera
bighop - March 16, 2010
EOF in to pitch
Mighty Healthy - March 16, 2010
Conrad, Freeman, Blanco in the game
Mighty Healthy - March 16, 2010
EOF, looked sharp.
HEYJUDE - March 16, 2010
what’s happening?
cavebird - March 16, 2010
Ross up, to begin the inning.
HEYJUDE - March 16, 2010
and almost got a long ball.
HEYJUDE - March 16, 2010
Thanks.
I am stuck at work with no video or audio. :(
cavebird - March 16, 2010
Been there done that this ST, ugh
HEYJUDE - March 16, 2010
Dan Meyer (ex-Brave prospect) in to pitch
Mighty Healthy - March 16, 2010
Big piece in the Tim Hudson deal
Complete steal in retrospect.
Bronn - March 16, 2010
Ross flies out deep to Center, about 395 feet, 1 OUT
Mighty Healthy - March 16, 2010
Brandon Hicks singles to RF
Mighty Healthy - March 16, 2010
Freeman GIDP..
Mighty Healthy - March 16, 2010
GIDP Freeman
Bronn - March 16, 2010
So Freeman took the pitcher's spot...
…and the pitcher is now hitting fourth? Knew I should not have counted on MLB’s box score being correct, lol.
cavebird - March 16, 2010
correct, they'll probably use PH in his old spot
Mighty Healthy - March 16, 2010
FF is breaking my heart….I now this is not his year, but still
RMM - March 16, 2010
Well
He’s not showing any power, but he does have a .391 OBP this spring. Not bad for a guy that is definitely a year away.
Bronn - March 16, 2010
He hit a "HOME RUN" then over ran the runner, so he's not doing too bad power-wise..
Mighty Healthy - March 16, 2010
He really should have the same amount of HR as Heyward, however, a base running error turned the HR into a single. Other than that, he’s doing very well for such a young guy. Heyward is spoiling us!!!
bwellnjonesco - March 16, 2010
I'd forgotten about this.
Bronn - March 16, 2010
Freeman was too busy admiring his shot lol
The runner was too busy standing at 1st, 2 dumb moves
Mighty Healthy - March 16, 2010
very true….I think def. next ST we will be much more positive talk!
RMM - March 16, 2010
Know that feeling,
but he is young, maybe he will be the future 1st baseman, just not this year.
I’m hoping he continues to improve in the minors.
HEYJUDE - March 16, 2010
Oh, and for the record
Braves have the best spring OBP in the major leagues. By about 20 points.
Bronn - March 16, 2010
The reason for this...
…could be signing Glaus and getting rid of OBP drains like FYF and FUGA, but we all know the real reason is that Heyward’s glow radiates off on the rest of the lineup.
cavebird - March 16, 2010
Wagner hitting 94 MPH
Mighty Healthy - March 16, 2010
1 weak ground out to 1st, 1 K
Mighty Healthy - March 16, 2010
Hell yes!
vooodooo - March 16, 2010
101?
vooodooo - March 16, 2010
Pitching Billy the Kid in the 6th?
I’m pretty sure he brought his gas for that.
vooodooo - March 16, 2010
I hope Wags has a good outing.
HEYJUDE - March 16, 2010
101 on the radar gun, Wow
HEYJUDE - March 16, 2010
Wagner just hit 101 on the gun.
Bronn - March 16, 2010
Wagner just hit 101 on a high fastball out of the zone
Mighty Healthy - March 16, 2010
Holy Cow
RMM - March 16, 2010
The fan reaction at the stadium was classic
There was a bit of an exclamation watching that pitch, then a general cheer when the 101 reading went up on the scoreboard with some applause. Wags was just grinning.
Bronn - March 16, 2010
Yeah, that was classic
Mighty Healthy - March 16, 2010
Wagner at 96 with the K... yikes...
Mighty Healthy - March 16, 2010
I'll just let you stick with the play by play.
Bronn - March 16, 2010
it's all good man lol
Mighty Healthy - March 16, 2010
K on a 96 MPH fastball
Bronn - March 16, 2010
He's baaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaack..
Mighty Healthy - March 16, 2010
Wags looked Great.
HEYJUDE - March 16, 2010

bravesguy311 - March 16, 2010
6-3 GOOD GUYS
Mighty Healthy - March 16, 2010

bravesguy311 - March 16, 2010

HEYJUDE - March 16, 2010
Conrad up to start the inning, Heyward up next
Mighty Healthy - March 16, 2010
Man, brooksie is battling here
full count.
Bronn - March 16, 2010
Conrad with the WALK
Mighty Healthy - March 16, 2010

drumzalicious - March 16, 2010

HEYJUDE - March 16, 2010

drumzalicious - March 16, 2010
Heyward up
Mighty Healthy - March 16, 2010
Jay-Hey up
HEYJUDE - March 16, 2010
Heyward with another big cut and miss..
Mighty Healthy - March 16, 2010
I’m 450 miles away and felt the wind off that swing
bighop - March 16, 2010
Heyward another big cut and miss...
Mighty Healthy - March 16, 2010
BIG FLY
Coming up…
Mountngrown - March 16, 2010
Wait, did Wagner really just hit 101MPH?
Did anyone spot Heyward rubbing Wag’s head before he went out there?
bwellnjonesco - March 16, 2010
That swing and miss took the breath out of the Ump
HEYJUDE - March 16, 2010
I think I just felt it…
bwellnjonesco - March 16, 2010
Man oh man what a swing.
HEYJUDE - March 16, 2010
Yayy! Now I can say that’s what she said, when someone says that!!
bwellnjonesco - March 16, 2010
HaHa :)
HEYJUDE - March 16, 2010
Heyward
K’s swinging on 3 pitches
drumzalicious - March 16, 2010
4 pitches
thenightstallion - March 16, 2010
he swung at 3
drumzalicious - March 16, 2010
right…but the first pitch was a ball
thenightstallion - March 16, 2010
Heyward K's swinging hard.. 3 misses
Mighty Healthy - March 16, 2010
Jay-Hey K's
HEYJUDE - March 16, 2010
Given his last two AB's...
…I wonder if Heyward decided he just needed to get some swings in regardless of whether they were pitching around him.
cavebird - March 16, 2010
Might have been the case
Especially against the lefty here.
Bronn - March 16, 2010
Diaz would smacked the crap out of that ball…
If Heyward avoids the tough lefties this year, he could possible hit > .320..
bwellnjonesco - March 16, 2010
Probably
HEYJUDE - March 16, 2010
now
we need to see how he rebounds
drumzalicious - March 16, 2010
We'll probably have to wait...
…until tomorrow; I assume he’s done for the day.
cavebird - March 16, 2010
His line for the day
is 1 for 2 2R, 2B and 1K, right?
RMM - March 16, 2010
well
i meant against a lefty. Like if he missed those spots like that i wonder if teams have found a hole in his swing. they looked like 3 fastballs
drumzalicious - March 16, 2010
Hey guys. What have I missed so far?
justincredubil02 - March 16, 2010
patience
a lot of 4-5 pitch at bats.
Wagner hit 101
Heyward K’ed swinging and missing at 3 straight pitches
Cabrera failed in the lead off spot
drumzalicious - March 16, 2010
I think it’s important that he struck out vs a lefty
bighop - March 16, 2010
right
but 3 fastballs essentially
drumzalicious - March 16, 2010
Wow…Wags hit 101??? Anyone doubting his health now?
What’s the score?
justincredubil02 - March 16, 2010
6-3
drumzalicious - March 16, 2010
But we learned that our outfielders can actually throw this year...
It’s a major step up from last year.
Little Lady - March 16, 2010
Wags at 101 and Heyward being awesome
bighop - March 16, 2010
Bad first inning for JJ, then he pitched 2 good ones. Our O helped him out by getting the 3 runs he gave up and more.
Wags looked Great!
HEYJUDE - March 16, 2010
Almost forgot…Heyward threw a guy out at 3rd
bighop - March 16, 2010
oh yea
Ross showed his super arm catching a runner stealing.
drumzalicious - March 16, 2010
....
heyward swings and misses 3 times. apalachicola, florida reports wind gusts of a billion miles per hour.
ryan c - March 16, 2010
I would come to TC just for the Heyward jokes!
CowboyCurtis - March 16, 2010
yea hes def done for the day
3 abs.
im liking this. chipper is def gonna benefit from heyward and glaus in the lineup.
tdoublem23 - March 16, 2010
he actually
had 4. One hit, Two walks and a K
drumzalicious - March 16, 2010
You mean 2
2 walks, a hit, and a K = 4 PAs, but only 2 ABs.
Bronn - March 16, 2010
bah
drumzalicious - March 16, 2010
Thanks, guys!
justincredubil02 - March 16, 2010
Moylan in
1 quick out
HEYJUDE - March 16, 2010
Just noticed
Ross doesnt wear Knee Savers . . .
drumzalicious - March 16, 2010
bobby cox cursed at an umpire and cheered his players
ryan c - March 16, 2010
Moylan with a K
HEYJUDE - March 16, 2010
Lol
“Was that Dave?”
Bronn - March 16, 2010
naming a pitch Dave sounds like something Lincecum would do while driving home
bighop - March 16, 2010
chino cadahia...
somehow fit his foopa into his uniform.
ryan c - March 16, 2010
Im excited
about the pitchers working on new things
Wagner and Moylan working on a Change Up
Huddy working on every pitch known to man lol
drumzalicious - March 16, 2010
btw
whatever happened to Hanson’s Change Up. I thought he was supposed to be working on it last year
drumzalicious - March 16, 2010
I haven’t heard, but I’d guess he would only break it out in special occasions.
Scott Coleman - March 16, 2010
hmm
i wish he would develop it more.
drumzalicious - March 16, 2010
same
even if it wasnt filthy, he could throw it once or twice every inning to keep it in the hitters minds.
Scott Coleman - March 16, 2010
He probably realized how well he throws that 12-6 and put it off for a while. Would be great to have him add another dangerous pitch though.
thenightstallion - March 16, 2010
Moylan has been straight filthy.
Scott Coleman - March 16, 2010
aside from that hit Saito gave up
all of our BP locks (Saito, Wagner, EOF, Moylan) are looking great.
drumzalicious - March 16, 2010
yes sir. I wanna see Kimbrel pitch. I’ve never seen him throw.
Scott Coleman - March 16, 2010
he’s scheduled today
bighop - March 16, 2010
Really?!
Yes. A good surprise!
Little Lady - March 16, 2010
Venters and Kimbrel both scheduled, probably just one of the will pitch, hope it’s Kimbrel
bighop - March 16, 2010
1?
we have to pitch 9 innings and its the bottom of the 7th
drumzalicious - March 16, 2010
Both will pitch
we’re the home team. We still have the 8th and 9th to go.
Scott Coleman - March 16, 2010
No wonder my buddies call me dumbass
bighop - March 16, 2010
oh snap
lol
drumzalicious - March 16, 2010
How many pitchers do you think will make the team?
Just wondering how many spots are open.
CowboyCurtis - March 16, 2010
5 starters, 7 relievers
Locks: Hudson, Hanson, Lowe, JJ, KK (starting rotation)
Wagner
Saito
Moylan
O’Flaherty
Medlen
2 spots open by my count-another LOOGY is desirable.
Bronn - March 16, 2010
Well, the locks are:
Wagner
Saito
EOF
Moylan
Medlen (I don’t see how we couldn’t keep him after the spring he’s had)
So…2 spots. My money is on Chavez and Reyes, with Proctor coming up in May and (hopefully) Kimbrel in June.
Scott Coleman - March 16, 2010
Peter looked great, inning over

ADVANTAGE – Talking Chop!
Scott Coleman - March 16, 2010
I feel bad for the Marlins
They have no fans.
Bronn - March 16, 2010
its kinda funny too
cause they’re easily one of the best run franchises in baseball.
Scott Coleman - March 16, 2010
If they had a decent fanbase
To the point that their payroll could stay in the $50 MM range, they’d be competing every single year.
Bronn - March 16, 2010
without a doubt
I saw something about the Marlins home grown all-star team since 1996 (or whenever they came into the league). It was crazy good.
Scott Coleman - March 16, 2010
They came in the league in 1992, I am pretty certain. You know we could both probably spend 20 seconds and google it, but that is too easy.
justincredubil02 - March 16, 2010
Thanks babe.
Scott Coleman - March 16, 2010
Awww…how sweet
dunnytwogloves - March 16, 2010
wow, kinda sad
RMM - March 16, 2010
anyone think
that if the team doesnt find a good internal option for a 2nd LOOGY that we’ll sign someone like Mahay or Beimel?
I mean I would like Dunn to make the team but he hasnt been to impressive. same for Reyes who has shown he isnt dependable in the bigs
drumzalicious - March 16, 2010
only on a minor league contract, but every other team in baseball would take them too. LOOGYs are so damn inconsistent. Ohman was great for us in 08 and he was horrible/injured all of 09.
And I’ve also heard Beimel is a douchebag to fans and in the clubhouse, so I’m not too interested.
Scott Coleman - March 16, 2010
I don't think so
If we don’t have another worthwhile lefty, we’ll just send Dunn to the minors and go with one LOOGY. Wags is a lefty, so he could used situationally if the 8th inning looks to be full of tough lefties and the 9th would be bottom of the line-up guys.
Dunn would get time to work on stuff in the minors and we might bring him back up later.
Bronn - March 16, 2010
i doubt it. with Saito needing some extra days of rest we will prob be using Moylan and EoF as Set Up men a lot
drumzalicious - March 16, 2010
oh wait
i forgot about Venters.
He could be the sleeper pick for the 2nd LOOGY
drumzalicious - March 16, 2010
Just to be sure, everyone saw that we brought back Smoltz, right?
justincredubil02 - March 16, 2010
yes
now we just gotta tie up Brian Jordan and lock him in a closet until November.
Scott Coleman - March 16, 2010
Reyes has shown he isn't a starter
I’d bet he makes a decent LOOGY though.
dutchschultz - March 16, 2010
I think JoJo would make a fantastic closer.
justincredubil02 - March 16, 2010
too bad
we have Wagner and Kimbrel
drumzalicious - March 16, 2010
only in desperate times
drumzalicious - March 16, 2010
Reminder:
We’re MLBN tomorrow too!
Scott Coleman - March 16, 2010
Thanks Ill remember to record that one..
bwellnjonesco - March 16, 2010
venters looked pretty good
bighop - March 16, 2010
I just have one question for all you guys and gals:
Is Ed Too Tall Jones, too tall?
Scott Coleman - March 16, 2010
Does Charlie Daniels play a mean fiddle?
justincredubil02 - March 16, 2010
I like the
Helton/Fowler/Twitter commercial……
RMM - March 16, 2010
Does Elmer Fudd have trouble with the letter ?
Scott Coleman - March 16, 2010
Which letter?
Bronn - March 16, 2010

Matt Diaz is awsome
Easily one of my favorite Braves players of all time.
Scott Coleman - March 16, 2010
Yeah, he will be one of the guys I tell the grandkids about, and they’ll be like “Who is that Papa?”. Then I’ll tell them, I saw Jason Heyward’s first season and they will shit bricks..
bwellnjonesco - March 16, 2010
Venters

Thuston with a single
HEYJUDE - March 16, 2010
Blanco makes the final out of the inning.
HEYJUDE - March 16, 2010
Anyone else out there thinks we've given Blanco enough times to prove he can be consistant at the plate?
HEYJUDE - March 16, 2010
I still have no idea why he’s still on the club.
Scott Coleman - March 16, 2010
in his defense, he had one hell of a WBC. I think they are holding out hope that the player that played last April will be the guy they see again. Although, he is great insurance for a CF injury.
justincredubil02 - March 16, 2010
I was p90x'ing.. How did Hicks reach?? And is Venters pitching well?

how did JJ give up the 3?
From what I’ve read scrolling through this, he was up in the zone in the 1st and then got better in the 2nd and 3rd and had a good changeup working.
How did he give up the 3? Any walks involved? Any HRs? Or just a bunch of hits?
Thanks
PS – Heyward needs to eventually be hitting 2nd this year
nathan rothschild - March 16, 2010
all his pitches were up and the Marlins weren’t missing.
Scott Coleman - March 16, 2010
Kimbrel

Our bullpen looked great today
So heres to a bullpen of

drumzalicious - March 16, 2010
Might be the best choice of relievers I’ve seen
bighop - March 16, 2010
Looks good to me!
HEYJUDE - March 16, 2010
We can afford to wait on Kimbrel.
He’s gonna have some control kinks this year, better to have them at AAA instead of the spotlight.
bwellnjonesco - March 16, 2010
i guess
but at the same time Chavez is doing much worse than Kimbrel.
Kimbrel is like a Gonzo to me. Gets it done just with drama
drumzalicious - March 16, 2010
Kimbrel is still young enough to remember bad innings. Those thoughts might get to him more with 30,000 people watching…
We have quite a selection of bullpen arms ready to go, so no need to rush our future closer to be a 6th bullpen guy.
bwellnjonesco - March 16, 2010
Our fellow Talking Choppers had a great game to attend.
I can’t wait until tomorrow , another TV game, yes!
HEYJUDE - March 16, 2010
