Hey guys and gals, I had a quick question to see if any of you homers could help sway my decision. I'm in a Head to head fantasy league, with 3 keepers. My first two choices were simple, Matt Kemp and Tim Lincecum. My third choice is a little more difficult...
I am torn between keeping Grady Sizemore, or Brian Mccann. I have a feeling both are due for monster seasons, Grady will bounce back to close to 30-30 numbers, and Heap, well, dudes a beast. There are no penalties for K's, and i know for a fact that either will be gone when its my pick (last pick, as I am reigning champ, thanks very much) I also have Hanson to throw his name in the ring, but I could prob grab him up later.
Well Chop Talkers, what do you think? Who to keep? Sizemore? Mac? Whats your thoughts?

But then again. Not a lot of great catchers, plenty of Outfielders. But if Sizemore gets his speed back, he will be a beast for stolen bases.

That’s a tough question, but I’d probably keep McCann because of position scarcity. If Sizemore is healthy though, he’s going to be a fantasy beast. Really a tough call.

If everything is equal, I take McCann simply because of position scarcity. OFers are a dime a dozen. There aren’t more than 3-5 C that I would have in a keeper league.

Agree here...
McCann puts up numbers that maybe 3 or 4 other Cs can match. That’s hard to get elsewhere. Meanwhile Sizemore (especially with the Indians likely struggles) can be replaced by any of perhaps a dozen OFs unless he really gets back on top of his game. Plus you already got a good start to the OF with Kemp.
In that sense of who’s easier to replace, it’s hard to go against Heap.
And as said below, gotta take Heyward if it’s a keeper league. He could be huge going forward.

I know that I requested a time change – I have softball on Tuesday nights. Last I saw, draft was on Wednesday the 24th.

It’s hard to compare catchers to other position players since they typically only play 80-85% of the games. If it were Mauer we’re talking about, then I’d keep him since he’s a league-leader in some categories. With Sizemore, you have more potential in Runs, SB, and maybe HR. With McCann, it’s RBI and average. It’s down to replacement value: Grady with better stats, but easier to replace. McCann is a top 3 catcher. Coin flip.
As an aside: we’ve had speculation about Heyward in terms of fantasy picks: until you know where he bats in the order, that’s a tough call. Higher up means more R; lower may mean more RBI. Additionally, his walks – while great for the team — don’t help the fantasy numbers much. So I’m personally struggling with where to rank JH vs. other OFs.

I’m in a modified league that counts OBP and OPS on top of the traditional stuff, so I don’t care how much he walks or where he bats :)

I’d keep Mac. He had more of a reason to have an off year with his eyes last year. Then there’s the scarcity issue. But also, you’re clearly a Braves and McCann fan. You’ll have more fun watching him rack up points for you. Worse, if you give him up, every time he slams a ball into the gap you’ll be thinking about how you had him and let him go.

Sizemore had some issues last year, and I am a bit concerned about his contact.
McCann has got the vision thing corrected, and is a monster at a scarce position. And from what I have seen from him this spring he is killing the ball.

McCann. Sizemore will end up on the DL. I saw him dive for a ball this weekend that had to have Acta reaching for nitro tabs.

I would keep McCann. There are plenty of OF’s available and while they might not put up the same numbers as Sizemore they should be good. There are really only 3 or 4 catchers that are any good. Mauer, McCann, Martinez and the Molina that plays for the Giants. After that theres not much.

I was hoping to snag Weiters or Montero (who will have a solid year) and therefore cushion some of the blow from losing Mac. But there are so many more OF sleepers who I have in my sights also. Denard Span is gonna be great again, and will slip, same with Carlos Gonzalez.

I would keep McCann since you’re keeping Kemp already. That will put your infield in a better position and you can get OFers lower down in the draft.
I’m also not as high on Sizemore as everyone else…sure he’s a good player but I worry about his contact rates. Plus the Braves as they stand right now have a very high OBP prediction…so plenty of RBI chances for McCann along with his power.

Outfielders are easier to find, Sizemore’s had a few issues lately with his health, and after Mauer and McCann, the pickings are pretty slim for catchers.

Gallardo vs. Hanson
In my keeper league I’m trying to decide between Clayton Kershaw, Josh Johnson, Tommy Hanson, and Yovani Gallardo for two spots. I think I’ve decided to keep Johnson and have eliminated Kershaw, but need help deciding between Hanson and Gallardo.

I would keep Johnson and Kershaw, to be honest. I expect big things from Kershaw this year.
That being said, I’d keep Hanson, because I’m not sold on Gallardo’s health and I think Hanson can get you more wins than Gallardo can (I’d call it a wash on ERA, WHIP and Ks.)
