Here are the photos I promised from my time this morning at the Atlanta Braves pre-spring pitching mini-camp, nicknamed Camp Roger. For a full summary of my day, go to this post.

Sometimes it's lonely for Roger at Camp Roger. The Braves pitching coach looks on as his pitchers throw.

McDowell stands at home plate like a batter while Peter Moylan throws.

McDowell makes notes as Moylan throws.

Hudson and the other pitchers look on.

Michael Dunn throws for the first time in front of Roger McDowell.

McDowell helps Kris Medlen stay closed in his delivery.

Chris Resop prepares to throw a pitch. He's a big guy who was popping the mitt with every pitch.

Ryne Reynoso gets some throws in.

Jordan Schafer takes some BP from Brian Snitker in the adjacent cage.

Chipper Jones walked in at one point and tossed Tim Hudson one of the new super-sized batting helmets that the minor leaguers will have to wear this season. As he was leaving Chipper was asked if he would have to wear one and he responded, "Chipper's not wearing one."

wonder if they make medlen and moylan wear sleeves to cover their sleeves
scottsharp76 - February 5, 2010
In games they do.
I guess it kind of makes sense that they do in practice.
The Keith Lockhart Era - February 5, 2010
It is kinda cold.
bwellnjonesco - February 5, 2010
cant imagine having to wear long sleeves on top of pants during an atlanta summer…
Doghnut - February 6, 2010
Those Under Armor long sleeves are pretty thin and really just pull up the sweat. And I’ve seen a lot of pitcher who just use the NBA shooting sleeves instead of actual long sleeves.
cbwilk - February 6, 2010
Some do it by choice...
such as Georgia OL coach Stacy Searels (during two-a-days in August)

Mr. Sanchez - February 6, 2010
thats disgusting
Doghnut - February 7, 2010
Ya know?! I’m sitting in the stands in a tank top and shorts sweating like crazy in the middle of July and Gonzo is wearing his jacket the whole game. Every game.
In the past they didn’t have to cover the tats in BP, but we’ll see in a few weeks if that’s still the case. Meds’ were so far up on his shoulders that they didn’t show even in a short sleeve.

whoa whoa whoa….CHipper has gone third person…Swo feels a big year coming for Chipper, Swo thinks he may be the third base version of Rickey
Swo12bv - February 5, 2010
Good to hear Jordan is swinging the bat well, even if it’s only batting practice. I really want this kid to make it, given everything he’s been through. Even though some (or maybe most) of it he put on himself, I still want him out in the middle garden for the next ten years
eaheckman10 - February 5, 2010
Same here. I like Jordan Schafer and would rather see him playing center field than anyone.
John Holton - February 6, 2010
Schafer
Every time I read about him, he’s working on his game. Sounds like a driven man. Hope he gets another chance this summer.
bighop - February 5, 2010
Except when he's getting tattoos
Bronn - February 5, 2010
Everyone loves some good tattooes...
…at least I do.
Little Lady - February 7, 2010
never understood the appeal
Doghnut - February 7, 2010
I can
I got a tattoo of a nipple…on my nipple.
alligatorimpersonator - February 7, 2010
Ok...
That’s weird. Point unproven.
Actually, I like sleeves above the elbow on guys…not sure how that would look when their 70 years old, but I still like it.
Little Lady - February 7, 2010
The good news is
Most 70 year olds aren’t very attractive anyway, so it probably doesn’t matter if their tattoos are unappealing.
Bronn - February 7, 2010
Good point...
I think you’ve convinced me to get a tattoo now.
Little Lady - February 13, 2010
Nice stuff, g. I hear ya, Chip.
Chief Noc-A-Homa - February 5, 2010
Oh, no...
Chipper’s letting the fame get to his head. Cocky bastard…
GouldisGold - February 5, 2010
NO tattoo policy for the Braves; that’s why they are always covered; andrew went to a longer sleeve when he got his spider man one on his elbow;
RWH2 - February 5, 2010
Who's Andrew?
Bronn - February 5, 2010
AndrUw
Jones, you know I think he played CF for a while. Might have hit some home runs real young in the minors. I think he’s kinda fat now.
Colombianconnection - February 5, 2010
wow my sarcasm comes back to bite me. When I said minors, I meant majors.

Excellent stuff, gondeeeeeeeeee…our own personal spring training preview. This has me so stoked for baseball to be back! Thanks and more thanks for sharing.

Chipper has more money more looks more stats and more brains than you. Dont be so jealous of him it makes you sound small and envious. I guess you just started watching baseball this month because Chipper Jones has always been cocky. It is part of his game, he is sure of himself and for good reason. He is not cocky because anything has gone to his head. Like the 400 homeruns or career average well over 300. Chipper just has to much for you buddy and he makes you feel like a inch worm. Keep the jealous comments to yourself because there is nothing in this picture or his actions which seem to command a comment about his cockiness. Chipper can have another bad year and if he does he earned the right. He has always hit for us and just like everyone he is human.
Brickstone - February 6, 2010
I'm pretty sure
he was being sarcastic
Bonhoffer - February 6, 2010
No
I’m positive he was
Bonhoffer - February 6, 2010
Yea Gondee why are you always making fun of the Braves players. Its clear that this whole talkingchop website is just a front so you can spread your braves hate.
\facepalm\
That rant must have taken 10 minutes to write.
McCann and McWill - February 6, 2010
This is why
There should NOT be a sarcasm font. Because how else would we get jewels like this?
Bronn - February 6, 2010
Failure to detect obvious sarcasm = win
Bronn - February 6, 2010
wait..
was THAT sarcasm?!?! Do you really want the font or not?? IM SO CONFUSED
Doghnut - February 7, 2010
It’s ok, you’ll get used to it, I di…what were we talki…? Look, a puppy!
Lizziebeth - February 7, 2010
Great stuff.
This type of stuff gets me pumped for the season. Can’t wait for it to begin.
blindsided789 - February 6, 2010
great shots
if that don’t get you pumped up for baseball nothing will. Love the intense look on Dunn’s face. Makes Papelbon look like a wus. Got a good feeling about Schafer. I think he’s going work it out. After getting a taste of the majors last year you know he’s chomping at the bit to get back into the show.
adc62 - February 6, 2010
You feel real good seeing these guys working on their stuff. It’s going to be a good year, I just have a feeling. Love the shot of Roger working with Medlen; Kris still looks like he’s in high school…
John Holton - February 6, 2010
wow
Dunn and Resop are some big guys.
When do pitchers and catchers report again?
