BASEBALL IS BACK!!!
and will hopefully be better than ever for the TC community.
JKowalek - February 24, 2010
I was already getting the itch
but that crack of the bat is making me really anxious for the season to start!
KoKo the Monkey (T-Bone) - February 24, 2010
+ 1
I mean Jay Hey makes me excited to be alive right now
BeantownVol - February 24, 2010
DITTO!

1998 movie BASEketball quote
Al Michaels “I don’t think I’ve ever been this excited!”
Bob Costas “You’re excited? Feel these nipples.”

spring training question
If I lived in Orlando, could I drive down and watch this in person? Or is this a team-only kind of thing?
KoKo the Monkey (T-Bone) - February 24, 2010
I think you can watch it. FO FREE!!!
I’m not totally sure of that though.
McCann and McWill - February 24, 2010
+1 for Unforgivable Reference!
dkinser86 - February 24, 2010
Bitch, get me a chicken sandwhich…and some waffle fries!
Scott Coleman - February 24, 2010
$8
JKowalek - February 24, 2010
I might be late saying this
But does Heyward’s swing resemble another left-handed masher? I’m not saying Heyward is going to strike out at the rate that other slugger does but wow that is the first player I though of when watching the J-Hey vid.
SmithnCompany - February 24, 2010
Is this a quiz?
I vote Ryan Howard!
Cracker! - February 24, 2010
He reminds me a lot of a young Garrett Anderson
homerlanding - February 24, 2010
No want. :(
EricGreggWasPaidOff - February 24, 2010
Garret Anderson was one of the best hitters in all of baseball in his prime.
Scott Coleman - February 24, 2010
Eh, GA was good, but not one of the best IMO.
He could hit, but his problem was that he couldn’t walk. His OBP’s are atrocious in a lot of his prime years.
alligatorimpersonator - February 24, 2010
And he was never really a “power” hitter.
EricGreggWasPaidOff - February 24, 2010
That may be
But the man could sure swing the bat.
Scott Coleman - February 24, 2010 via mobile
Definitely
I feel like GA is what Francoeur could’ve been…but never was
alligatorimpersonator - February 25, 2010
i agree completely
that’s actually a real good comparison. I’ve never thought about it, but it makes sense.
Scott Coleman - February 25, 2010
it's kinda funny with GA
you would think with how he played left field for us, he would like to take walks more often
alligatorimpersonator - February 25, 2010
Not this
Bronn - February 25, 2010
as long as he’s not an old Garrett Anderson
VivaLosBravos - February 24, 2010
I don’t really want ANY Garret Anderson. He only had one year in his career where he hit over 30 HRs. And while he had a span of a few years where he had 100+ RBIs, he was primarily benefiting from a productive Angels’ offense staying on base in front of him. I suppose having an outfielder like Garret Anderson in his prime (30 HR, 100+ RBI) is better than what we have now, and would be something most teams would desire. Still, it would just be a huge disappointment for me. People have been talking about Heyward for over a year now like he’s the second coming of Pujols. I want a player that is going to be able to put up good numbers for at least a decade, not just a couple good years.
EricGreggWasPaidOff - February 24, 2010
If Baseball America really knows what they are talking about, Heyward should be about 42 times better than Pujols. Alberts highest ranking by Baseball America was 42!
homerlanding - February 24, 2010
If that’s the case, we should just be able to field Heyward and forget the other eight in the lineup. Sure, we’ll have to forfeit a game every now and then, if Heyward gets injured. Still, we should win all the ones in which he makes it through the full nine innings.
EricGreggWasPaidOff - February 24, 2010
iirc, an order of 9 Pujols’ would have scored about 9 runs/game last year. If Heyward is 42 times better, we’d score almost 400 runs/game.
VivaLosBravos - February 24, 2010
We’re only fielding one Heyward, though. Likewise, he only gets to bat until he makes an out each inning. We’ve gotta at least try to be fair to the other teams, ya know?
EricGreggWasPaidOff - February 24, 2010
"Ghost runner on 2nd!"
Mr. Sanchez - February 24, 2010
That implies that he did not homer.
acie4mvp - February 24, 2010
This.

EricGreggWasPaidOff - February 24, 2010
Check the signature.
justincredubil02 - February 24, 2010
I don’t think anyone questions that Heyward ought to both get on base and slug at a better rate than GA.
VivaLosBravos - February 24, 2010
And this is exactly why we need to calm the F down about Heyward. We are setting the bar way too high. People, he is 20 years old.
justincredubil02 - February 24, 2010
basic reasoning and logic isn't allowed when we talk about Jason Heyward.
Scott Coleman - February 24, 2010
Someone who gets it!
EricGreggWasPaidOff - February 24, 2010
Garrett Anderson
Was his nickname on Krypton.
Bronn - February 24, 2010
Does anyone know the date/time/channel of the first Braves spring training game that will be broadcast nationally?
EricGreggWasPaidOff - February 24, 2010
Nationally....
looks like March 23 vs Mets on ESPN at 1:10PM Eastern
sddbaker - February 24, 2010
Yeah…that’s the only one I could find in my googling, too. Thanks. :(
EricGreggWasPaidOff - February 24, 2010
If you have MLB Network...
They are airing our first game, Tuesday March 2 against the Mets @ 1:00
granman29 - February 24, 2010
Yeah for DVR!
Mr. Sanchez - February 24, 2010
oh hell ya baby!
Scott Coleman - February 24, 2010
Sportsouth and FSN South are airing some, and CSS is as well. But those wouldn’t be nationally. ESPN is airing like 3 the last week of March i think. Its got the broadcast schedule on atlantabraves.com
10-4 - February 24, 2010
did you have your meeting with Wren in regards to not signing FUGA yet?
Scott Coleman - February 24, 2010
lunch time meeting friday, the charter jet is picking me up tomorrow at 6.
10-4 - February 24, 2010
keep up the good work.
Scott Coleman - February 24, 2010
Melky looks a little bit rusty there. Reminds me of the first days of BP back in my baseball days.
Rhett W - February 24, 2010
Also
video proof of Melky’s beard. That should add 40 to 60 pts OPS…
vooodooo - February 24, 2010
i didnt like the beard…its more of a chin strap than a full out beard… i was thinking an awesome full out johnny damon unbridled neck beard
Swo12bv - February 24, 2010
Who's the tall, dark skinned fella in that first video?
I feel like I’ve seen him before…
Scott Coleman - February 24, 2010
This whole thread just kinda died...
Scott Coleman - February 24, 2010
ahhhhh nothing sounds better than the sound of Braves bats hitting their mark
southman - February 24, 2010
Who said mac was a pull hitter?
Clearly goes oppo nicely.
nick9314 - February 24, 2010
Medlen was throwing heattt to melky.
nick9314 - February 24, 2010
eh
watching melky after heyward and mccann wasnt to good for my confidence in him
anyone know who was actually throwing BP?
drumzalicious - February 25, 2010
it looks like Meds was throwing, but it’s kinda hard to see
Scott Coleman - February 25, 2010
I like the caption...
“Melk-man shows his new teammates what he’s made of”…I’ll say…he had a popup (stayed within the cage), a double play ball, and a swing and a miss…sounds about right…
forgotten_glory - February 25, 2010
If it was Medlen throwing, or any other pitcher, it seems like the pitches that were thrown to Melky were a little harder than to the ones to Heyward and to McCann which were slower batting practice fastballs. That could have an effect on how well the results of Melky’s bat contact was.
I don’t disagree with what you’re saying, however. We’d expect those results more out of Melky than the other two.
djvog - February 25, 2010
Or read what nick9314 said above. Haha.
djvog - February 25, 2010
well
quite a few of the balls that mccann was hitting were just routine ground balls
