its weird how before reading this i didn’t know what GFY or BFS meant….but after reading they both popped right into my head….like it was meant to be….
when we had what appeared to be a need for an OF, unlike this year where we have plenty, and for another middle of the order bat (which Anderson wasn’t but had been previously), which is also unlike this year with the signing of Glaus, development of Escobar and Heyward, etc. Yeah, different year, different needs.
There was no reason to bring in FUGA last year, heck, the reason he was available was that everyone else in the game already knew that he was done as a productive player, certainly they knew that he was no “middle of the order bat” anymore. If Wren couldn’t see what everyone else in baseball did last year with regards to FUGA, how do you know that he isn’t getting visions of that one hot month that Anderson had last year in his head and thinking, “Hey, Garret was hurt last year, we could bring him in on the cheap, and he’ll be just as good as that Damon guy I just tried to sign …”
hence the minimal (judging by our offer and what he ultimately accepted) interest. FUGA is not a leadoff hitter. And I think having Melky, McLouth, Heyward, Schafer, and Diaz competing for starting jobs is a little different than last year when it was Diaz, Schafer, Blanco, and Josh Anderson.
But if we f’ing sign Garett Anderson I will rub broken glass into my eyeballs before I watch him sleeping in left field while Diaz sits on the bench all pumped from his latest p90x workout
I have a higher opinion of Frank Wren than this. We WILL NOT end up with Garret Anderson again. It just can’t happen. Wouldn’t the planets have to be in alignment on the summer solstice, whilst a secret ritual is performed by Zombie Hitler for something like this to happen anyway?
you not only need to see it, you need to see it drunk first (and marvel at the genius of bill murray) and then sober and realize that it’s funnier when you’re sober.

…umm, ok. I don’t believe I said he was second to Pujols. I said he was better than Anderson. Big fucking difference there.

Diaz 2009
vs. LHP .412/.464/.640/1.104
vs. RHP .255 /.349/.400/.749
So, as you can see, Diaz is WAY better against lefties than Anderson and slightly better against righties (all the while bringing better defense to the table too). So, in what way would a Diaz/Anderson platoon serve us?
I was one who supported last year’s signing of Anderson as the best choice for that amount of money in a year of gradual rebuilding. For a long stretch after he regained his health he provided a valuable bat. But due to the inevitable toll taken on all by age, Anderson’s fielding is no longer acceptable on the major league level.
Garret Anderson’s a solid role model and he has played for some of baseball’s best managers. note the “could be” in his tweet. Anything “could be” true… My cat “could be” a baseball columnist, for instance. (Actually, my cat would be a better columnist than Hey-man…)
Does anyone know when BBTN is going to Braves camp? I know they’ve been the the Skankies, Sillies, Fishies, and Cardinals so far…i’d love me some Braves coverage for a change.
They were covering the Braves on The Show with Jim Bowden and somebody yesterday. They interviewed Bruce Manno, and it was good to hear Braves coverage. Bowden thinks we’ll challenge for the Wild card, and the other guy didn’t feel we’d challenge for anything due to all our “if’s”.
Also, on the news last night, Brian McCann was showing off his Fantasy Football championship belt, which would make the WWE proud. That thing was huge. He was agging Chipper on about it, and Chipper was just shaking his head.
1. Freeman
2. Teheran
3. Vizcaino
4. Delgado
5. Minor
however, IF Salcedo plays up to his skills, he will be VERY close to Freeman at the end of the season. With our dearth of positional player depth, I could see the hype train get rolling for Salcedo (especially if he hits well at the Beach, ‘cause if you can hit well there, you’re destined to be a star).
Why would anyone who knows anything about our team say that?

If Heyward is not ready
Then it may not be such a bad move. If we have to play Melky full time in RF then we will need a LH hitter to platoon with Diaz in LF.
homerlanding - February 22, 2010
Diaz is better against both RH and LH pitching than Anderson — there is no advantage to platooning Diaz if Anderson is the other option
Doghnut - February 22, 2010
Yeah I know that 95% of all Braves fans have been duped into believing that Diaz is the second best hitter in the NL behind Pujols. I’m not convinced.
homerlanding - February 22, 2010
…umm, ok. I don’t believe I said he was second to Pujols. I said he was better than Anderson. Big fucking difference there.
Maybe you should check some stats if you don’t believe me:
FUGA 2009
vs. LHP .283/.307/.407/.714

Diaz 2009

vs. RHP .255 /.349/.400/.749

Death!
That explains FUGA’s movements in the outfield while failing to get to fly balls last year.

Just wondering...
Does anyone know when BBTN is going to Braves camp? I know they’ve been the the Skankies, Sillies, Fishies, and Cardinals so far…i’d love me some Braves coverage for a change.
Scott Coleman - February 23, 2010
They were covering the Braves on The Show with Jim Bowden and somebody yesterday. They interviewed Bruce Manno, and it was good to hear Braves coverage. Bowden thinks we’ll challenge for the Wild card, and the other guy didn’t feel we’d challenge for anything due to all our “if’s”.
Also, on the news last night, Brian McCann was showing off his Fantasy Football championship belt, which would make the WWE proud. That thing was huge. He was agging Chipper on about it, and Chipper was just shaking his head.
Just good to see the boys again.

The Show...
Jody McDonald… I HATE that guy’s voice, so I can respect nothing he says.

looks like we signed Salcedo
http://blogs.ajc.com/atlanta-braves-blog/2010/02/21/braves-could-sign-top-shortstop-prospect/
now, where does he fit in our top-5.
Assuming that Heyward starts the year in Atlanta, the top 5, in my eyes, HAS to be
1. Teheran
2. Freeman
3. Vizcaino
4. Salcedo
5. Minor
apoxonbothyourhouses - February 23, 2010
Minor over Delgado? Teheran jumps Freeman? Salcedo is 4th as an 18 year old having never had a minor league AB? Wha?
Lennox - February 23, 2010
i know...
i typed that and said, “i need to stop drinkin’”
apoxonbothyourhouses - February 23, 2010
more realistic...
1. Freeman
2. Teheran
3. Vizcaino
4. Delgado
5. Minor
however, IF Salcedo plays up to his skills, he will be VERY close to Freeman at the end of the season. With our dearth of positional player depth, I could see the hype train get rolling for Salcedo (especially if he hits well at the Beach, ‘cause if you can hit well there, you’re destined to be a star).
apoxonbothyourhouses - February 23, 2010
A list without Bethancourt...
is wrong. He will flourish again this season, and become a top prospect (not just in the Bravesd system, but all of baseball).

I think spirits have been so high
about this year, somebody is just trying to bring us down with news like that. Lets not let that happen. Hopefully Frank Wren is smarter than that.
