Braves Quote For The Day

From Day 3 of the Braves Caravan:

When the players boarded the bus to head back to Turner Field, Peter Moylan and David Ross saw a young fan crying outside the bus. Seeing her upset they asked if we could bring her aboard. It seems she was upset she didn't get to go through the line for autographs. Well, she had her own personal autograph session with everyone on the bus and as she got off, the crowd cheered!

I think the lesson here is don't wait in line for an autograph, just turn on the waterworks in front of the bus as the players are leaving. But seriously, that was a nice gesture, and inevitably everyone who want's an autograph will not be able to get one.

Tim Hudson, Jason Heyward, Todd Redmond, David Ross, coach Glenn Hubbard, assistant GM Bruce Manno, broadcaster Jim Powell, and alumni Brad Clontz, will be on today's caravan as it heads down through McDonough to Macon. There will be a public autograph session this afternoon at the Academy Sports on Eisenhower Parkway. All Maconites should plan to attend.

Attended also

Always good to see the Braves up close and see how they react together, especially Chipper and Brian Jordan. Then we saw Chipper’s 3 kids show up with his wife and he was very excited to see them. All I got. Oh, and the line was indeed crazy long.

On a side note, my father has used my youngest brother numerous times to get cheap/free tickets into the Masters.

3 of his 4. Poor Matthew gets forgotten.
That’s hilarious about your Dad. He must love golf.

…so not only did you know he had four kids, but you apparently knew what they looked like in order to realize which one was missing?

"not only did you know he had four kids" ... 20 seconds, my friend :)

and

knew what they looked like

Well, I was at Family Day back in August: http://www.talkingchop.com/2009/9/6/1007576/photo-frenzy-part-1-publix-8-22 -just over halfway down the page
And at the Brian McCann softball game: http://www.talkingchop.com/2009/11/14/1156648/brian-mccann-charity-softball-game -at the bottom of the page, in the comments

Honestly, despite seeing them at these two events, I probably wouldn’t recognize them unless they were all together.
But you’re right, I did a very bad thing and assumed. I wasn’t at this event to actually see which of his kids were there. Since it was merely a glib comment (to me), I quickly (and now shamefully) assumed that Sharon (info thanks to BravesLove) wouldn’t leave one of her own kids at home, and instead bring Matthew (thanks Wikipedia), the child of Larry’s tryst with the Hooters waitress, on a Monday night (an atypical night a kid would be with a non-custodial parent). Seriously, I’m sorry; assuming is bad and I don’t like it either. I guess I thought this was a safe bet, knowing how my Dad’s second wife would’ve rather put a screaming hot poker in her right breast than leave her own child at home and take me somewhere! But maybe they do have visitation with Matt on Mondays – maybe he lives closer than Michigan now, and maybe one of the other kids was sick at home. I just didn’t thoroughly think through my short little comment in which I was attempting to show sympathy for an "unexpected" child.

But just for the record, I am not a Larry fan. Yes I take pictures of him, but it’s for friends who are fans of his, and it makes me happy to see them enjoy them. To each his/her own!

i was just yanking your chain

but i think that paragraph (esp the part about visitation rights) might actually be creepier…keep it up lizzie :)

ya know, I thought so, but coming so soon after vern’s post, my sarcasm sensor is a bit dim!

I am not a Larry fan.

too bad.
he is the second greatest Atlanta Brave (behind only Hammering Hank).
but I can guess why.

The line was unbelievable in E Cobb yesterday.

A lot of folks were asked to give email addresses so stuff could be sent to them, but they walked away with nothing. I would estimate the line was between 300-400 yards long. It literally enveloped an entire strip mall where the Publix signing was.

With basketball practice looming I luckily ran into someone I coached Little League against who also works for Braves Radio. He offered to alleviate our wait and get our stuff signed later on. We gratefully accepted. Leaving the event I saw Homer and asked my 12 year-old if he wanted to get a pic with him, and I got a look back like “are you kidding me?” so, deciding I wasn’t going to leave without something, got this pic:

Crap, I have meetings all day…Academy is sooo close too :(

As a vet of 13 seasons of getting autographs I can definitely say, nothing works better than being a kid. A crying kid is like a shark with a nuclear bomb strapped to his back.

Don’t forget the lasers!

You mean a T-Rex with lasers.

Dino-Riders

just was talkin to my buddy about that show last week. Most people dont remember it, prob cause it was on for a week

Dino-ridden

I had two of the toys. Need to dig those out. A long-necked one and one small one with a sail fin.

That picture made me laugh.

Dude, those toys were great.

I always wanted the T-Rex or that huge Brontosaurus, so badass. Had a couple of em, like that Pterodactyl that came with some barbwire trap or something

I had the Pterodactyl, he was lame. I had the Triceratops and he was fairly bad ass. Had a few others too but I can’t remember which ones. I’m thinking they were smaller.

Why have I seen this picture three times, on three different sites today?!?!?

I think the caption answers your question.

I bet it was a cute blonde

no offence gondeee but if you were crying in front of the bus they probably just make fun of you :)

I went to a publix last year for autographs and I remember them telling us up front that not everyone would be able to get all the signatures. I was the last person to get Jair Jurrjens autograph and there was a good 50 people behind me that didn’t get one.

It happens, but as Tom Hanks said, “There’s no crying in baseball!!”

It was a nice gesture by the team, but I’m sure if it was a dude crying they would have laughed at him. I’m sure this only works for women.

So…you were like, literally right behind me at that Publix event.

If I rolled up in a wheelchair would it increase my chances of getting an autograph?

Try it and see..... :)

My friend has this great story about Ryan Klesko when he was in AAA. He was out in the parking lot at Richmond trying to get autographs and Klesko comes out and he asks and Klesko says, “Get me inside the ballpark, I’m off work now.” (of course he ignored the fact that he pretty much never signed inside either) My friend is just like Ok, sure, but this dude in a wheelchair that had been getting autographs says, “I can’t, there’s no way for me to get down there.” Klesko shrugs and says, “Not my problem.”

wow. Klesko just dropped a lot in my book of opinions.

I remember him being less than kindly a few times in my childhood pursuits at Turner.

Folks would just kinda laugh by the end of it.

Yeah,

I remember him throwing a few temper tantrums, and being a jerk, but not signing for the handicapped individual is beyond classless :(

haha whoa, yikes...

but how about that career OPS?!

You could always do the Peter Griffin and convince them that you are a child dying of some entirely made up disease (or bring a child with you).

How early should someone plan to get to these events?

my brother was there and got hudson and heywards autograpg. he said i can chose one for my graduation gift this yr. which one should i pick???

Heyyyywwwaarrdddd
