Yes, the second part there is my favorite thing in the whole movie. I also love in the second one when he’s getting drunk. Something like, “And now batting (ruffles through papers), aw hell, I don’t know, who gives a shit.”
Mac was in Greenville. The other group was in Spartanburg. Had to sacrifice Mac….but I got to hang with Yunel, Diaz, Hanson, Eddie P, and Redmond……twice. lol
Got 5 balls signed by each guy at their first stop at Wild Wings. This group made 2 stops in Spartanburg. So I also got each of them to sign a Braves banner. Probly going to get that framed.
They had a Q&A and I got to ask a question. It was a blast.
Tommy Hanson is one of the nice, nice ones. He was all about eye contact, trying to have a “moment” with everyone. When me and my dad came up in line again at the second stop he immediately recognized us. So did Matty D. I told Matt I would be praying for the team this year, and he wrote a Bible verse on my ball, although he was writing the verse on everyone’s ball, I think. But he seemed to really appreciate the prayer.
I told Eddie Perez, “15 years later, man. I’ve got a feeling. This is it.”
He smiled at me and said, “You know what? I’m thinking the exact same thing. We’re going to be ready for whoever.”
BTW, everytime I see or hear this words “I got a feeling”, this flash mob dance thing is what I think of.
If you haven’t seen the video of it, you should check it out.
Glad you got to go, especially to hang with your buddy Yuni. Kudos to you for thinking of something good to say to them! I can’t come up with anything…but you know…bad writer=bad talker kind of deal.
The first stop we were at was kind of a “town meeting” scenario with all of them answering any questions from the audience. I raised my hand, and got the mic.
My question was directed at Matty D, but first I gave props to Yunel for being awesome, and told him to keep up the bat spins going into at-bats. They translated it to him and he laughed and pointed at me, smiling.
When I came up to get his autograph he smiled and held out his fist. I got a fist bump from Yunel Escobar. I don’t call myself the self-appointed Pres of Yunel’s Cartel for nothing. lol
Haha, nice. One of my friends is a big UNC fan and he’s started getting players who played there to write ‘Go Heels’ along with their autograph. Most guys are happy to do it. Actually, most every player I’ve met from UNC is a great guy.
Good deal. A lot of players do that, just off the top of my head Paul Byrd, Tony Batista, and Mark Eichhorn come to mind. There are a ton more but that’s what I came up with right now.
One of these days I’ll have to scan some of the cards Joe Winkelsas signed for me. He wrote all kinds of stuff, one of them has like 3 lines on it.
Actually, he’s the one I’ve heard about who’s apparently a total douche. A few people think he might have social anxiety disorder (or was home schooled or something). He’s just not nice to people.
No clue why they made two stops in Spartanburg, with an additional stop in Greenville. (I’m originally from NC, south of the border for work, and Spburg is essentially a shit hole. lol) I mentioned to my dad, "If we were in someplace like Chicago, or even somewhere in Georgia, it would have been impossible to see everyone in two seperate stops.
When we showed up at the second stop, there was a decent sized line there, but we only waited for maybe an hour. This town is essentially football country. Some of them still like the Braves, tho.
You can tell Spartanburg is a shithole just by the fact that they don’t have a minor league team. Every city worth anything in NC, SC, and GA has a team.
It may be a bit premature...
But who goes down as the franchise’s favorite catcher? Heap, Javy, or someone else?
HansonManCrush - February 11, 2010 via mobile
Bruce Benedict...
who currently refs SEC basketball games.

Does he really? Dude stays busy then, cause he’s a minor league coach with the Cardinals.
cbwilk - February 11, 2010
Yep....
he did a TN-Auburn game I was at last year. I would have liked to talk to him, but it is next to impossible to get anywhere near those guys….
sddbaker - February 11, 2010
He’s a super nice guy. He was a coach here in Norfolk for a few years when I was in high school (Bobby Valentine was manager).
cbwilk - February 11, 2010
Seems like I remember him reffing a game or two on TV over the last couple years.
The Keith Lockhart Era - February 11, 2010
He's been a ref ...
for SEC basketball games for years.
Mr. Sanchez - February 12, 2010
One of my first childhood (and baseball) crushes.
Lizziebeth - February 11, 2010
Really?
I liked him a lot as well! I wish I could say it was in my childhood, but that would be stretching things a bit….

Fair enough.

I love Major League. 2 and 3 not so much.

Time of the ballgame… I can’t find it. The hell with it!
J-Freak - February 12, 2010
Exactly
Though I think it was the sponser who he dropped, “Our time of the ballgame was brought to you by…Oh, I can’t find it. To hell with it!”

+100
HansonManCrush - February 12, 2010 via mobile
I'd say Javy until Heap passes him up around 2012.
The Keith Lockhart Era - February 11, 2010
I always liked Greg Olsen, but heap may be passing him.
playertobenamedlater - February 11, 2010
I changed, I’m gonna go Joe Ayrault, just cause he’s still the man.
cbwilk - February 11, 2010
The ladies really loved Javy, but personally I love me some Heap

yeah, he writes a verse on everything. i got a ball from him and he wrote one on there, and he wrote a different one on the card yesterday.

Interesting. I haven’t gotten his autograph since his first ST with the Braves and back then he wasn’t doing it. Good for him.
