Atlanta Braves Fan Confidence Poll

Every other Monday this off-season Talking Chop presents the Atlanta Braves fan confidence poll. This poll and therefore your confidence level should encompasses several areas of the team. These areas include, but are not limited to, the team’s ownership, current management, talent, minor-league system, general playing ability on the field, and of course during the off-season, how our off-season is going. The poll will stay open for 48 hours, and then the results will be posted and graphed against the previous weeks.

Sign Johnny Damon as a FA...

trade Barbaro, Beachy, and Brandon Hicks for Pujols. Until then Wren, I’m voting 1.

The current absentee corporate ownership and its tight controls on the purse strings have me stuck at a max of 8.

Along this line of thought, DOB’s latest post included this unsurprising, but nonetheless discouraging blurb:

Wren said the team expects a modest increase in payroll from 2010, though he wouldn’t elaborate.
I voted 7.

Between the aforementioned payroll issue, and FW’s admitted hesitance to trade from our strength to fill an obvious weakness, I find it difficult to vote any higher. I like our team, but “being in contention” shouldn’t be the goal — winning the WS should be the goal.

I really don’t think our payroll is an issue, $90+ mil is more than enough money to compete for a championship. Also, when are we going to stop taking Wren for his word? He never seems to do what is expected and I fully expect him to make a splash at the winter meetings.

I fully believe we had the team to do it this year when everybody was healthy.
still at 8

Wren will get somebody we need, might not be who or what we expect, but he will fill the need.

7

No significant additions yet. I can’t go higher than 7 until I see what Wren does to upgrade the outfield.

Non-tendering Melky wasn’t enough?

Addition by subtraction.

Multiplication by subtraction.

FTFY

No Melky is good but it’s not an addition until we find out whether Wren signs an equally crappy player to replace him (remember he signed Garret Anderson to play LF 2 years ago).

+Mather, -Melky

Seems like an upgrade of some ilk.

My 8 could finally go up or down

Depending on our off-season.

if we keep KK off the starting roster

we’ll be fine

But....

BB, JJ, MM and FF will be fine on the starting roster

I wish this week's vote could be held on Thursday!

(I know – I can always vote again next week).

I’m staying at 7 for the time being. I like the moves the Braves have made so far, but we’re no closer to signing or trading for a power-hitting outfielder, which has been a need since last offseason. I’ll wait and see what happens at the winter meetings.
