Giants starter Matt Cain made the Braves think they were facing Tim Lincecum all over again for the first five innings, but Atlanta finally scored a run in the sixth then tied the game in the eighth off the Giants closer, Brian Wilson. Extra innings was then very VERY kind to Atlanta, capped off by a Rick Ankiel go-ahead solo home run.
Ankiel hit a no-doubter off of Ramon Ramirez deep into McCovey Cove beyond the right field wall. He had that chance thanks to a huge double play off the bat of Buster Posey, turned by "third baseman" Troy Glaus the inning before. The bad news is that the Braves may have lost closer Billy Wagner. He seemed to pull a muscle in his left side while pitching in the tenth inning, and had to leave the game, giving way to Kyle Farnsworth -- who came up huge to get out of a bases loaded jam and finish out the win.
It is unbelievable that we actually scored off this Giants team, let alone this Giants' bullpen -- one of the best in the game. Giants manager Bruce Bochy went to his closer Brian Wilson in the eighth with two runners on, and he could't hold the game and allowed the Braves to score three runs and tie the game. Amazing. The Braves needed that, and so did Alex Gonzalez who had the key hit in the inning, a game-tying two-run double.
There were just so many big plays in this game, and I'm way to amped/excited to adequately recap this game. So many key moments, and the Braves were finally able to take advantage of them. GO HERE for the inning by inning live recap of the game.
Wow, what a game, the Braves now command home-field advantage coming back to Turner Field for two games where they are a much better team. Crazy win for Atlanta. Improbable. But that describes this depleted Braves team -- improbable.

ankiel smoked that thing
awesome

Who woulda thunk it? ;-)
When we tied the game, then Farns went 2 innings, it was already so unbelievable that one more miracle could happen, right?

It’s so nice to be pumped about a Braves playoff win!! Can’t wait until Sunday

If ANYONE goes over to McCovey Chronicles and trolls
You’re banned from TC. Other than that…
GO CRAZY IN HERE!
Scott Coleman - October 9, 2010
I see how it is....
You get to troll on your Giants fan friend via text message, but you’re imposing restrictions on our trolling. Hypocrite! :-p
EricGreggWasPaidOff - October 9, 2010
lol
He started talking shit first so I reserve every right to go spray paint a big “A” on his garage door, right?

Just don’t go tonight…or through the next 5 or so days.

Yea
The same undocorkscrew that was so unbaised on Phillies websites that the members went digging for his personal information to post online. We still talk about the gay kid from Florida often. You suck. Stop going to other blogs pretending to be ‘a fan of baseball!’

what?
Is this Catholic school where you monitor our outside lives?
justincredubil02 - October 9, 2010
its the same courtesy we would want from the Giants fans regarding the first game, or any game that we lose on the last AB.
Swo12bv - October 9, 2010
I wouldn’t expect their “home” site to threaten to ban them though.
Asking for common courtesy is one thing – threatening repercussions is another.
justincredubil02 - October 9, 2010
Is it really that difficult to...
I don’t know… NOT TROLL?
Tarkus - October 9, 2010
No it isn’t – which is why threatening to ban people is ridiculous.
justincredubil02 - October 9, 2010
People who don't troll have nothing to worry about.
Tarkus - October 9, 2010
Thanks. But I really am not concerned about that. I am concerned with threatening people for what they do on their own…
justincredubil02 - October 9, 2010
I would suppose....
that since SBNation is a “family” of blogs, and all the “siblings” like to stand up for each other, especially for the nice siblings, like MC, then I see no reason they shouldn’t threaten us with banning if we troll over there. He specifically said McCovey Chronicles, not any other Giants blog.
sddbaker - October 10, 2010
Where's the 'Glaus will not play 3B again people?'
They were vicious today. ‘Can we FINALLY put this to rest, yadda yadda yadda’
How goes it?
GREAT F_CKING WIN!
Undocorkscrew - October 9, 2010
The game-saving double play aside, I’d still be terrified to play him at 3B for a full game. You saw what the Giants started doing immediately – bunting to the third base side. They know. We know. I’m sure Glaus knows.
EricGreggWasPaidOff - October 9, 2010
The only thing the Giants know...
…is that Glaus is slow and he hasn’t played 3B all year. They certainly won’t be bunting often if he’s at 3B. That was a smart play, but I don’t see it being a huge issue. The Giants don’t have a ton of speed…
I think he can handle it.
Undocorkscrew - October 9, 2010
in that situation you often see guys try to sneak a bunt regardless of who is playing.
they even said on the broadcast that the grass was wet which slowed it down. he got to the ball pretty well though.
nuftjedi - October 9, 2010
I don't think he can
I think on anything hit to the left side, we’d need to have Gonzo shaded toward third to make up for Glaus’ absolute non-existent range.
Still, good to see him contribute.
Bronn - October 9, 2010
I think Glaus...
would have made that play that Infante whiffed on in Game 1.
Tarkus - October 9, 2010
no
no
no
a fully streched infante is 8 feet closer than glaus would be.
SLOballin' - October 9, 2010
If only Infante were fully stretched.
He was more like bent over.
justincredubil02 - October 9, 2010
TWSS
Yakker - October 9, 2010
But that said...
…I’m nervous about him there for a full 9 as well. But his bat could carry a team and I don’t think your losing much from the position. Range, yes……but routine plays, I’d trust Glaus more.
Undocorkscrew - October 9, 2010
It was Edgar Rentaria. He may very well have bunted had Infante been there. It’s not like they tried to bunt with Pablo Sandoval.
justincredubil02 - October 9, 2010
I’m terrified to have either infante or conrad at 3rd. As I see it, glaus can’t do any worse.
telemakhos - October 9, 2010
Yes. That was me. I’m man enough to admit Glaus killed that vidro.
However, if you think he’s a postseason solution at 3B, you are more insane than Jeffrey Dahmer.
UMDBHIK - October 9, 2010
He was replaced the next inning!
BeatTehMets - October 9, 2010
This
… I mean come on… you saw the first AB with him in at third.
SuperNewb - October 9, 2010
I don't think any 3B makes that play.
It was a perfect bunt, and Renteria is fairly fast.
Tarkus - October 9, 2010
I'm also man enough
To man up to my mistakes.
Thank you, Troy Glaus!!

How about Mike Minor to replace Wagner?
Extra hard throwing lefty to replace a hard throwing lefty-I bet Minor could even crank it up a couple more notches coming of the pen. Thoughts?
Bronn - October 9, 2010
Braves can't add anyone to replace Wagner's spot on the roster?
Undocorkscrew - October 9, 2010
yeah they can
if he is injured.
nuftjedi - October 9, 2010
Yes they can if he's injured.
Jay212033 - October 9, 2010

He would not be eligible for the NLCS if we replace him.

5 runs. Many said that was impossible.
Jman781 - October 9, 2010 via mobile
Well….I’m sure the pundits were basing that on a standard 9 inning game. Technically, it took the Braves 11 innings to get 5 runs, therefore it’s a disqualification. :-p
EricGreggWasPaidOff - October 9, 2010
And you're right
I underestimated the Giants!

soooo
Glaus starting at 3B? Move Heyward down? Solve our offensive issues???
Infante 2B
McLouth LF
Lee 1B
McCann C
Glaus 3B
Heyward RF
Gonzalez SS
Ankiel CF
Hudson P
drumzalicious - October 9, 2010
Nah
I think we’re stuck with what we have for a starting 9.
Bronn - October 9, 2010
Let Glaus attempt a couple of innings and if he looks terrible, replace him....
….his bat could really help this lineup.
Undocorkscrew - October 9, 2010
Depends on which Glaus we get
July Glaus or May Glaus. July Glaus helps nothing.
Bronn - October 9, 2010
well to be fair
He would be more productive than Conrad has been
drumzalicious - October 9, 2010
Well
Before the 8th inning, we thought Rick Ankiel and Alex Gonzalez were useless.
Bronn - October 9, 2010
no not we
a majority of the rest of talking chop does. I think Glaus and Ankiel are fine. They bring a lot defensively and some occasional pop
drumzalicious - October 9, 2010

I just think him getting more than one AB in the game is better than just one
nuftjedi - October 9, 2010
Heyward is fine.
It’s been 8 ABs, man.

He’s a “God Bum”. The ultimate kind of bum!
get swoll yunel - October 9, 2010
I thought he had some quality ABs tonight. He was working the count very well and just ran into some tough pitches/questionable calls from the ump behind the plate.
Heyward always seems to run into questionable calls because his eye is phenomenal. I always want to give him the benefit of the doubt on pitches he thinks are balls. I’m not worried about him at all.
(I realize you agree with me, just wanted to extrapolate a bit there.)
get swoll yunel - October 9, 2010

Special thanks (in no order) to: Bobby Cox for getting thrown out, Derrek Lee, Brian McCann, Dunn, Moylan, TROY GLAUS, RICK ANKIEL, Alex Gonzalez, and Kyle Farnsworth.
romone_braves91 - October 9, 2010
You have to add Infante to that list
Couple of hits and one hell of a turn at second for the game-saving double play. Not to mention Kimbrel for his ability to crush the spirit of the Giants hitters.
pancanbra - October 9, 2010
Each time Kimbrel strikes out a batter, he captures the guy’s soul to eat later.
EricGreggWasPaidOff - October 9, 2010

this game proves to me that being a brave fan in the bronx for 20 years has made me knowledgeable about the team enough to know that Glaus should start at 3B in game 3 and McLouth in LF. Everything else stays the same (with Infante at 2nd of course). Let Minor take Wagner’s spot in the bullpen, Kimbrel or Venters closes things out. We’re good to go baby!
BronxBraveFan - October 9, 2010
haha
apparently not knowledgeable enough… no minor, past his innings limit.. no glaus at 3rd either

Virginia9er - October 9, 2010
Have to Agree
My one knock on Cox has always been his failure to leave a hot player in. Such a good manager, but there are times…
BravesFaninAZ - October 9, 2010
You're naive if you think Cox wasn't still calling the shots.
Tarkus - October 9, 2010
I may very well be naive, but I’ve been watching Bobby for a very long time and that move did not reek of patented, Bobby Cox postseason bullpen management. I realize managers often hide behind the scenes and still call the shots and all that, but the decision to stick with Kimbrel just seemed a bit too aggressive… especially after the way Bobby managed the bullpen last night.
Either way, I thought it was great call.
get swoll yunel - October 9, 2010
Not really.
Considering they’d already used up much of their bullpen, and had no idea how long the game would last, combined with Kimbrel throwing extremely well, it was a no-brainer. That’s what you do in a tie game, late. You can’t run through your entire bullpen by the time you go into extra innings.
Tarkus - October 9, 2010
Ooooooh now there’s an idea, guy! Let’s argue!

Yakker - October 9, 2010
i actually think
they both did bad and this is why i disagree with how they play to matchups so much. We essentially were out of pitchers because we forget that people other than Venters, Kimbrel, and Wagner can throw to both lefties and righties.
I think going forward we severely handicap our relievers by not letting them learn how to pitch in the more challenging situations

Some drunk Giant fan behind me tonight
Kept insisting Wilson was the beat closer in the NL and loved bringing him in for 6 outs. “who’s better” he said.
“Heath Bell? Wagner?”
“nah, Wilson is da man.”
I agree. Love that Wilson.
Yakker - October 9, 2010 via mobile
He’s one of the best closers ever…..for the Braves.
EricGreggWasPaidOff - October 9, 2010
This year? Brian Wilson is an elite closer. He’s had a damn fine year. Bringing him in for a 6 out save was not ridiculous. It just didn’t work out.
Some days you’re the dog, some days the fire hydrant. Last night, Wilson was the latter.
UMDBHIK - October 9, 2010
Wilson’s meh, but his surface stats make him look sick b/c of park/luck factors.
IMO bringing him in for 6 outs (with men on the corners and no one out) was a risk Boch didn’t need to take. But that’s the great thing about baseball. We’ll never know what would have happened if they’d left Romo in or fielded Melky’s dribbler cleanly, but we’ll sure get to talk about it for years and years.

he lost like 10 mph on his fast ball over the month and a half he pitched with the big club… really doubt we will be seeing him again this year.

Virginia9er - October 9, 2010
It was good to see a guy like him, who has had such an up and down career, have something like that happen to him too. He’s been one of the most resilient players that I can remember, failing at one position and going back down to learn another AND THEN make it back to The Show….amazing, great to see
KJDH2154 - October 9, 2010
I agree
I really like him from his days with St. Louis. After that collision it just all went down hill though. I wouldnt mind the Braves bringing him back instead of signing an overpriced Outfielder (Jayson Werth, Carl Crawford)
drumzalicious - October 9, 2010
Gotta feel good for him
After all that happened ten years ago, he’s such a great story in sports. I’m glad something like this happened to him. Maybe it will pump us up and we can take the next two in Atlanta.

I got to watch every second of the game, but was not afforded the ability to watch with a fellow Braves fan live, well with the exception of a 4 year old at times, so I’m stoked, but I wish I could share these moments live…
jbeachbum24 - October 9, 2010
It was great
Me and a friend of mine (both braves fans) were jumping around, yelling, high fiving, all that good stuff, and all our other friends (cubs fans) were sitting there smiling at us, laughing at times, I’ve just realized that the thoughts going through their heads had to be similar to “geez, I wish I wasn’t a cubs fan right now…..or ever”
KJDH2154 - October 9, 2010
Kudos… I’ve been there. Glad you guys get to experience it.
jbeachbum24 - October 9, 2010
THIS
Went to the game with fellow TCer mvandonsel, and for folks who haven’t had the pleasure of watching a game with seriously knowledgable Braves fans who follow every AB, it’s an unreal experience…
Yakker - October 9, 2010

Who’s going to be in the standing room for Game 3 at the Ted?
award6 - October 9, 2010
I’ll be there, but I’m gonna be behind the Braves dugout a couple rows up.
thenightstallion - October 9, 2010
This game was so exhausting. I about lost my shit when Wags got injured and Farnsworth came in. And then I about lost it for other reasons when Glaus turned that double play. I knew after that, we had this.
Well actually, I initially thought we had it when Melky made that catch and doubled the guy up. But then Farnsworth ended up coming in, so it changed things a bit.
Sarahbeth - October 9, 2010
For the first time all year...
I was actually on the verge of tears when Wags went down.
sddbaker - October 9, 2010
Me too.
I started tearing up from excitement over us tying it up, but not as much as when Wags went down. At the point you just have to wonder if this whole thing is some kind of sick joke.
Sarahbeth - October 9, 2010
I remember thinking…hasn’t our team suffered enough injuries? My JOY from the previous inning was quickly replaced with a gut wrenching worry about Wags. It’s amazing how our hobbled together team continues to refuse t die.
NCChopper - October 9, 2010
I was close
When Chipper went down, his initial reaction didn’t look good, I wanted to cry then
KJDH2154 - October 9, 2010
I wasn't watching when that happened, so I never really cried over it.
Sarahbeth - October 9, 2010
I went over to McCovey Chronicles and read through their threads
And one guys came out and defended Wags….it was great, I should go back and find it, everyone on the thread was making fun of him for being injured, and one person stood up and told them to knock it off, that it’s not funny to watch a hall of famer go down from injury on what could be the last pitch of his career…..from this point on I will respect MCC….I don’t troll any other blogs, but If I ever considered it, I would refrain from doing it there for this reason alone, it was great to see.
KJDH2154 - October 9, 2010
So in other words you respect the guy who made the post.
jbeachbum24 - October 9, 2010
Yes, here it is
you can all go straight to hell.
That injury may have been the reason he just walked off a baseball field for the last time. Not a cool way to end it when he came back from injury already to have such a great season after being written off.
So ya, go to hell and all.

KJDH2154 - October 9, 2010
I sobbed through Chipper's press conference after the injury
Wags going down just pisses me off because honestly, who else could we lose? I will say this – if we win this series, it will defy all odds with everything that’s happened to this team in the past two months with injuries. I hope we get to the NLCS and Wagner comes back. I don’t want that to be the last play of his career.
E-Lizz - October 9, 2010
BUT
The rules state that if we replace Wags on the NLDS roster he’s ineligible for the next round, even if healthy. So best case is we beat the Phils and get Wags back for the WS.
Yakker - October 9, 2010
Ah.
Well then we have to get to the World Series, dammit.
E-Lizz - October 9, 2010
Wags actually initially hurt himself on the last pitch to Edgar
He then really injured himself bad on the next pitch and said after the game that he was thankful the bunt came straight to him, because he could barely move. What people aren’t giving him credit for is the throw he made to first to get the runner out while in all that pain. Pretty gutsy play, and very crucial. Sure, it’s not going out on top. But there are worse ways to go.
pancanbra - October 9, 2010
Yeah...
Some people questioned him not going to second, but after looking at it again (he was holding his side before ever spinning), we were lucky to get the out at first.
Tarkus - October 9, 2010
This is true
But its kind of the way I feel about Chipper. When he went down, it was on a spectacular defensive play. Still don’t want it to end like that though. Difference is, Wags won’t want to come back.
E-Lizz - October 9, 2010
I know
We MUST win this series so that he can hopefully pitch another day.
ryantex - October 9, 2010
I think we do have the bullpen depth to pull this off
LEastCoastBears - October 9, 2010
Sad that we’ve had to experience basically the same thing 3 times this year, a key player getting an injury and immediately knowing they probably won’t be back this year.
Hopefully I’m wrong about Wags but it still feels like shit.
StapleGun - October 9, 2010
The really sad thing is
it’s happened five times
-InsertWittyNameHere- - October 9, 2010
I about teared up with excitement and bewilderment when Ankiel crushed that ball.
I couldn’t believe it. I was in shock. And it couldn’t happen to a nicer guy than Rick. It was one of the few times I was actually rooting for the player separate from rooting for the team.

LEastCoastBears - October 9, 2010

leaning towards Lowe in Game 4. Probably due to Wagner being out and the need for another reliever which Beachy was great at before starting
drumzalicious - October 9, 2010
If Wagner is really gone (no way of coming back into this series), I do believe the Braves can replace him (alas what happened with Baldelli and the Rays after game 1 of that series this year)
LEastCoastBears - October 9, 2010
yes but he cant pitch in the next round, eligible to come back in the world series
lund123 - October 9, 2010
Obviously not an ideal situation by any means, and I hope for his sake that that is not the last time that we see Billy Wagner in the MLB. For Wagner to not be able to continue, it unfortunately had to be something serious. I hope I’m wrong.
LEastCoastBears - October 9, 2010
Lost my voice
As did everyone else I am sure.
I am never superstitious, but for some reason tonight I changed my mind. After we gave up 4 runs, I take off my brand new Hanson jersey and put on our Sunday Red jersey since I didn’t wear that one yesterday either. Then in the 8th inning, just before it starts, I make my two friends (couple of cute girls who came over just to support), pick from my random stash of 45 different Braves hats, and put one on in rally cap mode (mine is the shark look). Sure enough, this worked, and I feel like I am on to something…
I must admit, I was so devastated early in this game, I thought it was over, I saw no hope, but I still figured I’d try something… glad it worked!
GO BRAVES!!!!

When we, Just can’t seem to move on
Thinking there’s, no end to our journey
When you just, don’t know what else to do
Take a deep breath
Each time it is within our reach,
It leaves again and again,
But we will never, be afraid
’Cause nothing will stop us now.
Our true hearts unite as one
Our true ties can never break
With our bonds we’ll make it through thick and thin
And together we will find
Everything we’re searching for
We wont stop until, we reach the End.
Though the pain we will survive
Gain the strength to stay alive
’Cause within our reach, is Destiny
BeatTehMets - October 9, 2010

Just a hell of a game. In October, it’s not always the best players. Sometimes you just get that swing right, and all of a sudden—history.

Something very fitting
In having Kyle Farnsworth, of all the people on this Earth, be the man who came through when we most needed it to notch our first playoff win since ’05.

El Soro - October 9, 2010
Agreed.
But hey, a win’s a win.
pancanbra - October 9, 2010
Question is…
Should a game 5 be necessary in SF, do we go Hudson on short rest, or Hanson?
frozendesert - October 9, 2010
Has to be Hanson for like 3 innings then the bullpen.
romone_braves91 - October 9, 2010
Hudson pitching Game 5 on just two days rest is just asking for trouble.

NCChopper - October 9, 2010

justincredubil02 - October 9, 2010
So many times this year,
when Chipper went down, then when Prado got hurt, and finally with Wagner tonight, I just couldn’t help but thinking that it just must not be meant to be. I mean why does that keep happening? It just seems so unfair. But then, this team. It’s unbelievable. I’m yelling and screaming at them, practically pulling my hair out with frustration — and they come through anyway. Gonzo hits the game-tying double. Glaus comes in at 3rd and makes an unbelievably gutsy play that could have lost the game had it not been so well executed by both him and Omar (the turn he made was awesome). Farnsworth of all people gets the win and Ankiel splashes the game-winner. I’m sure I look like a crazed idiot because I just can’t seem to stop smiling.
Cayla - October 9, 2010
I just wish we could watch together….man I’ve watched an ass load of games…I just want to share the experience, but I’m not afforded that opportunity.
jbeachbum24 - October 9, 2010
Yeah, same here.
I watch every game on my computer on Mlb.tv, so I’m glad for the game threads, to at least feel like I’m not alone in it. With the postseason on TBS, I’ve gotten to watch these games with family, but while they root for the Braves, they are nowhere near diehards. They just kept complaining that the game was on too late, so not exactly the most fun to watch with.
Cayla - October 9, 2010
Just think how much more epic our World Series victory will be precisely BECAUSE of all the adversity we’ve had to face this season. To me, this team’s season is like a Rocky movie, and we’re in Round 8 of the fight, right before he gets really, really pissed off and starts kicking some serious ass.
Aaron Meier - October 9, 2010

But we had so many heroes tonight. Farnsworth and Glaus, yep. The ’pen was phenomenal tonight, D-Lee jumpstarting the offense and with the great digs at 1st, A-Gon with the HUGE double, Melky for hustling and getting Huff to come off the bag.

SouthernPanther - October 9, 2010
Not to be all wishy washy or anything...
but Rick Ankiel is my new favorite Brave.
OK, not really, but he’s at least moved up the list a few spots. I’d been begging all game for SOMEBODY on this team to hit a homerun, even if we lost, just to show some sign of life…was totally not expecting it to come from him.
And by the way, any other ballpark, and we’d be singing McCann’s praises tonight instead of Ankiel’s. But hey…whatever works.
Aaron Meier - October 9, 2010
So many incredible storylines in this game.
Rick Ankiel getting the game-winner for the Braves after being completely incapable of pitching against the Braves 10 years ago.
Kyle Farnsworth getting a win in extra innings for their first postseason victory since 2005 after being unable to hold a 5-run lead in Game 4 of the NLDS in 2005, a game that went into extra innings.
Troy Glaus comes in to play third base after only playing two innings at the hot corner all season and makes the most important defensive play of the Braves’ entire 2010 season.
Best of all? This game was a microcosm of this team all year. There was no one hero. It was a unified effort. From the bullpen throwing 7 scoreless innings, to Lee & McCann’s back-to-back hits, Gonzalez’s double, Glaus’ huge double play, Ankiel’s homer, and Farnsworth getting the job done after being forced into emergency action when Wagner went down, the whole team was the hero tonight.
What an inspiring win. What a devastating loss for the Giants.

I still think he strikes out too much, but how many power-hitters dont?!?!?! I heard Bobby in an interview on the news this morning “He is the guy always hitting them out in bp, he has tremendous power”. I will allow for redemption and admit it if I am wrong. Ankiel was the right guy at the right time. He was due, I am out of cliche’s. GOOD DAMN WIN! Go Braves, lets get it done at home!
HeyMikey - October 9, 2010
Cox also said Yost told him that Ankiel could carry a team for awhile...
And Cox said they’ve been waiting for him to do just that.
Tarkus - October 9, 2010
Ankiel's
Made more decent contact than anyone this series I feel… He’s connecting well
HansonManCrush - October 9, 2010 via mobile
Brian McCann would like a word with you.
Bronn - October 9, 2010
As would Omar Infante
UMDBHIK - October 9, 2010
I agree
Not a good idea to knock on one of our players, especially when Cox seems to think a lot of him by playing him so often. I always felt ok about Ankiel – yeah, yeah, easy to say now- but I mean it. His fielding is miles better than anyone else in the outfield, except Heyward. He has always shown he has power. I loved it when he knocked the second baseman over last night! He showed up bigtime in one our recent losses to the Phillies.
It seems to me that instead of saying that last night was a fluke, we should be talking about who is hot, and that would be the Braves! This is an awesome year in the making, right here, right now.
BravesFaninAZ - October 10, 2010
rec'd baby
sddbaker - October 9, 2010
THE GAME IS OVER. THE BRAVES SEASON IS OVER. Seriously?
We were losing by three runs in the first inning? If you didn’t think we could come back from that then wow. If you haven’t realized this by now, never count this Braves team out of a game. That is what most that comment so ridiculous. Great win and Go Braves
Braves24 - October 9, 2010
EXACTLY! Have any of those phonies showed their faces around here yet?
FitzFan - October 9, 2010
Holy shit
I had to go to bed at the top of the eighth and then this happens. I love this team.
VictorW - October 9, 2010
Kindly do not watch anymore?
:)
justincredubil02 - October 9, 2010
Damnit, I feel asleep. Nice win though
taney71 - October 9, 2010
what worries me
is that Wagner could be out for the rest of the post season
southman - October 9, 2010
Kimbrell, Venters is back, etc. still the best.
Chief Noc-A-Homa - October 9, 2010
Feel bad for Wagner
But if Saito comes back strong, then I feel confident handing the reigns over to Venters/Kimbrel.
ryantex - October 9, 2010
Man, I really wanted to stay up and watch the whole game, but I’ve had such a long week at work that I was completely exhausted. I think I fell asleep in the 5th, so I missed all the good stuff! Damn it!
That’s ok, I’d like to say that by me falling asleep and not watching is what “jinxed” the Braves into winning. Woot!! All me, baby.
Sparhawk - October 9, 2010
Oh, and this is why I’m so happy our bullpen is so damn good. I don’t think the Braves have ever had a better bullpen…and to think Saito is out!
Sparhawk - October 9, 2010
I passed out when it was 4-1
and woke up on my couch around 5, the tv still on mute, my ipod still playing music through my headphones. It was actually my favorite Nirvana track from Nevermind, Drain You, which is what the Braves can do to you, haha. But that should have clued me off as a good signm because I love that song.
anyways… I made my way over to the computer expecting to see 4-1 as the final score. I saw 5-4 Braves, and have been wired ever since. Let me tell you… It’s the closest feeling like Christmas morning that I’ve felt in a long, long time. I helped jinx it with you, man, lol, because I passed the fuck out, too.
Chief Noc-A-Homa - October 9, 2010
All those Giants fans that came over here saying, “Fear the Beard!! Fear the Beard!!!”, lol, can flog off.
Fear the Braves.
Chief Noc-A-Homa - October 9, 2010
Yes, fear McCann!
Tarkus - October 9, 2010
So its the closest feeling to Christmas morning you've felt

Thanks for the quotes NCC
pancanbra - October 9, 2010
I thought Ankiel was going to get hurt in the dugout after he hit that bomb.
UMDBHIK - October 9, 2010
Are you serious?!
I went to bed before the eight inning, went to work and when I left and turned the radio on and the announcers said that we won with an Ankiel HR. I thought I heard wrong but…….are you serious?!
maxxj3 - October 9, 2010
Nah... just kidding.
Tarkus - October 9, 2010
oh....i thought so
the Braves I know are down 0-2. What, wait a minute!!
maxxj3 - October 9, 2010
The morning after...
I’m still excited about the win last night. Currently tailgating in Athens but everyone is still talking about the Braves. What a great win. Forget ‘Fear the Beard’, on to ‘Fear the Braves’. Looking forward to Sunday/Monday, gonna be there Monday night.
Again, WOW and HELL YES!!!!
Glaus regained a lot of respect with that DP too. Clutch play.

Anyone besides me, seeing the posts all displaying BOLD for the last 1/3 of the page?
They were not before when I was here earlier…just when I came back and refreshed the page.
NCChopper - October 9, 2010
Yeah...
I just refreshed, and I’m seeing it too.
Tarkus - October 9, 2010

Yakker - October 9, 2010
A lot of people criticized Frank Wren's mid-season trades,
and not without good reason in some cases. Yet this game somehow made him look like a genius. Gonzalez and Ankiel only got the two biggest hits of the Braves’ season so far. Farnsworth escaped a perilous jam and locked the Giants down in the last inning. And Lee had a good game too, especially defensively, scooping like 10 balls. I love it when a plan comes together (even if I had no idea that this was possible).
What an awesome and thrilling win. I really wish I wasn’t moving right now (like, RIGHT now), or else I’d be able to hang around more and celebrate. Hopefully I’ll have plenty of time to celebrate tomorrow at Turner Field!
Jacob Peterson - October 9, 2010
“Brian McCann’s RBI single in the sixth snapped a 24-inning postseason scoreless stretch by the Braves dating to their last trip to the playoffs in ’05.”
Chief Noc-A-Homa - October 9, 2010
Ouch!
Tarkus - October 9, 2010
That run was BMac´s HR in the 8th
joshant - October 9, 2010

jcm28 - October 9, 2010
McCann and Ankiel had a talk, I hope. Did anyone else who actually watched the game see what I saw in the highlights? On the Giants single up the middle, Ankiel was charging towards the ball, picked it up and was always looking toward home. A Giant was heading home from second base. Ankiel picked up the ball, but there was nowhere to throw, because McCann totally gave up on the play and was somewhere between the plate and the mound. Did Ankiel have a play if McCann was at the plate? I don’t know, but I have seen this before where players give up when there might still be a chance. Game seven of the WS with Yankees and Diamondbacks comes to mind – the last play of the game the outfielder totally gave up on it.
