Braves Get Dominated By Tim Lincecum In Game One

Stupid freak!

A freakin' bad call by the second base umpire and a freak on the mound spoiled the Braves return to the postseason. Tim Lincecum only needed one run to dominate and completely shut down the Braves anemic offense and get the win for the Giants. The two-time Cy Young winner struck out 14 Braves hitters in his first postseason game, while only allowing two doubles and a walk.

The real sour grapes was that the Braves pitching was also really good tonight, and a blown call allowed the Giants to score their only run. Buster Posey singled in the fourth and stole second, but replays showed he was clearly out. That missed call was huge for both teams as Posey came around to score the game's only run on a single that seemed to go right through Omar Infante's glove -- another missed defensive opportunity for the Braves.

The Braves bullpen kept the Giants at bey after Lowe pitched really well through the first five and a third innings. Yes the bad call at second base was a killer, but the Braves were swinging wildly at anything Lincecum threw near the plate, and their defense didn't do a good job of backing up Lowe. The problem of lack of offense and poor defense for the Braves late in the season plagues this team in the first game of the postseason. Braves must find an answer for these two problems, and fast.

Said this somewhere else, but I think it deserves being played again

2 quotes and a thought
"Those who sow in tears will reap in joy"
-Psalm 126

"You get a new hand soon after you fold"
B.o.B

Think about those, and a thought:
The pitching was as good as advertised, if not better. Granted the offense was bad, but the Giants wasn’t much better. I expect Bobby and Chipper to talk some sense into them and tomorrow’s game will be better.

I want to agree so bad but I don’t see how words are going to turn Sea Bass, Ankiel, Brooks, Melky, Nate, Diaz,(against righties), into decent MLB hitters.

You have a point and if I was in a better mood I’d say that which comes out of Bobby’s mouth is mere words. It’s really my somewhat irrational blind optimism. I was just hoping it’d cheer someone else up

I hate umpires.
Win tomorrow… and I’m going to the game on Sunday so we better win then!

Well, IF we win tomorrow this game doesn't mean jack Sh*t

We take away home field from the Giants and we have a chance to win the series at home. It is just one game. We got the jitters out and hopefully the offense wakes up tomorrow night.

this

Lincecum is a freakishly good pitcher… I like our chances better against Cain and Sanchez, Especially with Hanson and Huddy going. Go Braves!

I just went to reply to some Philly troll’s comment, but looks like it got deleted, thank god. Sick of the Philly trolls round here.
/end rant

Hells Yeah

I deleted it as quickly as it was posted. Not tonight I’m not dealing with that

Jeez

With the three day waiting period, trolls have to put forth a lot of effort.

I can't agree that he dominated us.

the braves did most of the work by swinging at absolute garbage time and time again.

maybe it would help them a bit to – oh I don’t know – talk in the dugout since they all did it every at bat.

Yeah...

Last night was pretty much the only time he’s pitched like that, ever.

Unfortunately, we gift-wrapped that one for Timmy.

His 14Ks were not so much his "stuff" as our willingness to swing at garbage.
A pitcher should be so lucky as to face our impatient offense tonight.
The defense was just another punch in the gut our SPs are somewhat used to by now.
The blown call was bad, but it should have been overcome by the offense since it happened so early.

(if this is deja-vu, it’s because I posted the same thing in the inning recaps, didn’t think you would be doing a post game recap too)

can’t wait to see him all over the sports headlines tomorrow. sigh.

dont

worry the Yankees won thats gonna be the top headline until they play again

This

All night long, I was screaming stop swinging at the garbage in the dirt. You have to know its coming. Almost every strikeout he got was a change up or slider in the dirt. You would think our guys would say, look he gets 2 strikes leave the garbage in the dirt.

If you've never faced a pitcher like that...

It’s pretty easy to say you should just “be patient”. I think I’ll give the team that leads the league in walks the benefit of the doubt. It takes away credit from Lincecum for pitching a great game to say we gave away the game. It was a close game, with great pitching, and we lost. Hopefully tonight our pitching will be just a little better than theirs, and we will win.

Except the only guy in the lineup never to face Lincecum was Conrad as far as I know. Even Heyward saw him in San Fran in April.

I am saying...

none of US have ever faced a pitcher like Lincecum, or probably any major league pitcher, and thus it’s not really possible to know what it’s like, and assume they struck out solely due to “lack of patience”. It’s not like they are a notoriously free-swinging bunch.

Lincecum could throw underhanded and still make me look stupid.

And while, no, they’re not a free-swinging bunch per se, we do have some free swingers in the mix, i.e. Ankiel, Gonzalez, Diaz.

Trivia. Who scored the last Run and who got the last RBI for the Braves in Postseason?
Lonnie Smith?
nope.

he got faked out and stopped at 2nd

Reminder: Musicman's aunt was in wreck and was airlifted to the hospital during the game

He asked we pray for her as he had to leave.
Let’s all hope we hear she is OK tomorrow.

Thats terrible

Will keep her in my thoughts

Good lord what a mess.

I will mow list everything I hated about that game:
-The blown call at second
-The Braves flailing at every damn slider and change up in the dirt, or any other pitch that was remotely close to the strike zone.
-Moylan facing only one batter
-Gonzalez batting fifth
-Conrad’s error
-Infante not coming up with Ross’s grounder
-2 hits
There is probably more, but its late and I’m tired

or not remotely close to the strikezone

echo echo...maybe Karma will repay us with a win?

It’s almost like we weren’t even trying.

OT comment count

4,258 as of 12:30 AM. That isn’t counting all the other threads (Inning by inning, Braves could be victims).

Not sure if it’s a record, but it’s damn close

Terrible plate discipline

I’ve seen little leaguers with a better approach. I recall 4 k’s on 3-2 with sliders at 55 feet. And does Gonzo ever swing at anything under his shoulders?

This started from lead off 2B…get him over, get him in…still playing!!!!

Nit going to say what if on call at 2B…McCann threw up line a little, led to high tag, tough to see play by ump…what can you do?

Have to come strong tomorrow.

WTF stat

We have 19 consucutive innings without a run, so far in postseason.

Our last run came from McCann HR to Wandy Rodriguez in the 8th inning of the game 4 against Astros on October 9, 2005.

i got a feeling that we will score in the 1st inning tomorrow

I

want Diory to start instead of Gonzo there i said it

asshat
ajcbraves

#Giants’ Posey: “It’s a good thing we don’t have instant replay.”

Just for that, I hope the Braves win, like, 20-0. What a jackass.

exactly

when you KNOW you got the benefit of a bad call, you just shut the fuck up.

I wonder if he’d say the same thing if they were the ones who got screwed.

Oh, c'mon.

Buster is absolutely correct. He knows he caught a lucky break/bad call. He isn’t the one we should be mad at.

Also, was anyone else annoyed that the commentators didn’t even talk about the blown call until the 8th inning? It took the “Glen Diamonds” of TBS 4 more innings to realize that there was more to the play than an awkward slide?! Unreal.

I am more miffed at the Braves’ hitters who were swinging at high cheese all night. I can understand swinging at sliders and breaking balls down and away; the ball looks a little more hittable at some point. But, when Timmy is throwing rising fastballs, lay off. Easier said than done, I suppose.

And yet

There he is in all the stills with his arms shot out to the side, as if yto say “Safe!!” Olney’s been comparing him to Jeter lately. Guess that’s truer than I thought.

If he doesn’t get drilled tomorrow I will eat a live squirrel.

If that’s the case, pics or it didn’t happen.

Video...

or it didn’t happen.

BUUUUSTER

(facepalm)

.

hahaha

Tony Hale (Buster) is my cousin. Love seeing him on TC. He had a blast with that role.

Posey "It's a good thing we don't have replay"

That legitimately makes me want to kill that ugly inbred fuckstick. I wish a curse upon him. what an absolute dick thing to say.

Curse?

Are you a warlock?

comments like this make all braves fans look like idiots
Nah.

Just passionate.

Posey was wrong. Of course there’s instant replay.
That’s why you’re so passionately upset!

Oh, he’s out.
I know it, you know it, he knows it.

And, by now, Paul Ennis knows it.

Replay exists.
The problem is MLB isn’t ruling on it, perhaps due to the claims that it would only add to the length of what is seen to some as a game already too long and drawn out.

One last item before this podium explodes beneath me.
Why Bobby doesn’t bitchslap his last lineup ever by the seventh inning is a mystery, and I lost a little respect for him last night.

That isn’t how he should go out, giftwrapping a win for a soft opponent.
As a fan of the Giants good head – to – head competition I hope he changes things.

Hey Buster...

Here’s what a good thing. It’s a good thing (for you) that you didn’t break your stupid butt bone with that goofy slide. The one where you were sitting up on your rear end and got tagged high before you ever got to the bag, and the stupid umpire just went with the “high tag, he must be safe” theory, never mind that your slide was so ridiculously bad and far away from the bag. Oh, and according to the stupid TBS announcers, it’s apparently excusable to miss the call because the umpire didn’t have a good position to see the tag. Well, whose fault is that? Get in a good position, you stupid worthless idiot.

Thass' a whole lotta stupid.

Give Brenly ( “…stupid TBS announcers…” ) a pass.
All he did was pull the stupid short straw.

Good God, how does Dick Stockton keep a job?

Congrats on your impending grandmotherliness.

Was Stockton calling games before there was color TV?

I thought I was getting old, but I remember him calling games when I was a kid.

Thank you, sir.

Yeah…I got carried away with the stupids….

Stockton is a good football and basketball announcer.

He’s subpar at baseball.

Does anyone know if Hanson is still going to pitch tomorrow after this happened?

It wasnt just the blown 2B call

he was getting some gracious calls in the zone too. Like in that last Heyward AB.

Either way I expect Hanson to throw an amazing game tomorrow, 17Ks anyone??

Then Hudson to be masterful at home in game 3.

Then us to mash Lincecum in Game 4 for the series win

pitching

isnt the problem hell Hanson and Huddy could throw no hitters but it doesnt matter if the Braves cant manage a single run

it's hard to score when you swing at everything within 10 feet of the plate
its like

we have 9 Ricks in the line up

rick actually made more contact that half the other guys
this

damn offense has been the problem the whole year. Braves would not be in the post season were not for the hotter than hell month of May we had. Thank you Glaus and Heyward.

I don’t know if they’d throw Lincecum on short rest.

why?

he didn’t even have to get the ball to the plate tonight to get strikes

they will.

zito’s not on the playoff roster. i think all they will start is lincecum-cain-sanchez

Bumgarner is the 4th starter.

we will if we’re down 2-1, otherwise its Bumgarner

I don’t see why not, obviously throwing strikes isn’t required.

honeslty

i cant wait til we have robots for umps and we can get rid of guys like Joe West and Angel Hernandez

Preferably

By them being crushed by robots.

Cyborg

can only do so much.

True

I mean really big, fully artificial robots. Like the Sentinels.

Upset

I’m not as upset about the missed call, as I am Diaz and Ankiel playing instead of McLouth and Hinske. Ankiel is in there for his defense… that didn’t work out. And really no reason for him to be in there anyways with Lowe on the mound. Ugh, just upset… just upset…

i ABSOLUTELY agree. I also say put Glaus in at 3rd and move INfante to 2nd. Can’t be worse than Conrad at 2nd right now.

put

Glaus at SS lol

dude, we need runs, not defense. the defense SUCKS and this is supposed to be our STRONG defensive lineup. screw that.

Glaus, Hinske & McLouth are all capable of hitting bombs. I know we get weaker defensively but who CARES?! Put them in there instead of Ankiel, Diaz & Conrad next game and see if we can’t score a few. The Rangers removed Francouer, Molina & Cantu and put another 3 guys in for game 2, why can’t the Braves?!

Diaz is just as capable, so i don't see how it would matter.

I say try MilkDud Friday. He can’t be worse than Rick, shudders.

yep

there is no way Troy’s d can be worse, and his bat has a much better chance of being better

They would just bunt the Braves to death if Glaus was at 3rd. There is no way he can

make a play coming in on the ball at third….BUT then again he couldn’t be any worse than what we already have.

the Giants have NO speed

even troy could throw them out.

or Hinske

how about Both? Plus Nate.

GLAUS CANNOT RELIABLY PLAY 3B ANY LONGER

Will you people wake up and realize this? Jesus H Christ on a stick.

THANK YOU

why do people not understand this?!

neither can anyone else we have.

so what’s your point?

That Glaus is the WORST option we have at third.

As much as

I would like to have Glaus’ bat in the lineup we simply don’t have anywhere to play him except first. And taking Lee out of the lineup to insert Glaus would be a wash at best.

Move Lee to 3rd

Certainly he could be better than Glaus, Conrad, and Infante.

(Before I get flamed, I’m only half-serious.)

Or give Chipper

Lt. Dan’s new legs.

Hell, stick him out there in a wheel chair.
Yes

Why on earth did Cox not start Hinske instead of Diaz? Does he have something against the guy?

I know Hinske has been slumping a little, but the guy crushed one off of Lincecum last month. I also have more faith in him than Diaz against any righty.

Makes no sense. This lineup is so frustrating.

Read my post about the lineup

we need a max scoring lineup, not this garbage.

MLB Needs REPLAY!!

They should have it like College football. All calls at bags, foul/fair, and homerun should be reviewed. They should have an umpire that has an ear piece that informs them of the correct call… It would make it faster and definitely correct. I think everyone would be satisfied with correct calls…. even umpires. I think it would make them feel better about not getting death threats from fans over missed calls ( Cardinals/Royals WS game).

I bet money....

One of our Braves players will say, “Well, you gotta tip your cap to the pitcher.” The worst freaking line in baseball in my opinion.

well

atleast we werent no hit

like this

ajcbraves

#Braves’ Conrad on Lincecum: “It was a tough battle tonight, and he won it.”

Lol wasn’t that tough for Lincecum.

maybe

we can lure Hank out of retirement. He prob looks better at the plate then Rick and Matt looked tonight

Bring back Andruw Jones of 2005!

i heard

Dale Murphy is still in decent shape

1. Hinske should have started. Makes no sense to me.
2. Gonzalez is struggling big-time. Why was he batting 5th?
3. Why did Bobby pull Moylan after one batter and no one on base? This could have been a huge disaster if the game had gone into extras. With Posey in the on-deck circle, Moylan should have stayed in.
4. Craig Kimbrel is going to be a ridiculous stud closer for us.

agree on Hinske

with Lowe starting we didn’t need our top outfield defense. did Diaz even make one catch all night?

he was literally a nonfactor between fielding and hitting…technically probably mostly a negative factor

i just threw way too many words in that last part

I agree on all points
I dont think Hinske should have started.

At all.

However I do think McLouth should have started in LF

On what basis? The fact he hits LH? Cause Hinske would be a better option.

Otherwise, I got nothin’.

put Glaus at 3rd. last thing i’m going to say. We need the power bat and what we lose in his defense is already killing us on the field in the form of Conrad at 2nd right now. Infante to 2nd, Glaus at 3rd. Hinske in LF, McLouth in CF pleaseeeee

with Tommy going tomorrow it could work too.

less ground balls means less work for Troy anyway.

Yeah, I think I’m gonna jump on the Glaus and Hinske bandwagon. The defense already sucks, so we might as well go with the players that have postseason experience.

exactly. worst case is you pull them for the same guys you'd put out there anyway.

I’d rather see Troy and Hinske be the ones getting 2-3 ABs a game

Umpire Paul Emmel's Quote:
I saw him safe. That’s what I called.

That’s the only statement he would make.

What a dumb stupid idiot

I hate him almost as much as I hate Satan

When asked if he had seen a replay:

No.

When asked if Conrad said anything to him:

Nobody said a thing out there.
why even bother.

it’s not a call he was going to overturn anyway

I wish I had his e-mail

so I could send him the video of his blown call everyday for the rest of his life

I saw him safe. That’s what I called.

Translated into English from Bureaucrat: “That’s my story and I’m stickin’ with it.”

Just like Davidson when he blew that game in Miami. This is why I loathe them as a group. No interest in what’s right, no professional pride, just cover your ass and keep up appearances.

Those two umps

Could learn a lot from Jim Joyce about humility and being a man.

there is the possibility that he didnt see the play and from his view Posey was safe…if he hadnt seen the replay he would have no reason to know he was wrong.

Joyce said he knew he was wrong almost immediately after making the call.

OK OK people

Everyone is talking about making our defense WORSE to have more offense. That makes no sense to sacrifice at every position we can. Hinske and Glaus are both butchers in the field and would give back as many runs as they would help produce.

our defense can't really get much worse

After getting two hit, I think its worth a try

I mean

Chipper wasnt exactly a vacuum at 3B so Im not sure we lose anything by putting Glaus there. However Hinske in the OF is an absolute no-no.

Infante 2B
Heyward RF
Lee 1B
McCann C
Glaus 3B
McLouth LF
Gonzalez SS
Ankiel CF

did you really just say that

there is a world of difference between chipper and glaus at 3b. probably 2 worlds.

After watching Infante, I'll never complain about Chipper's defense again.

I would imagine, at his point in his career, it would be the same with Glaus.

I'm going with...

a galaxy.

I agree we shouldnt be giving up defense for he sake of offense, or vice versa….we should be putting the best team out there possible. If Glaus is two runs offensively better than Conrad, but 5 runs worse defensively he shouldnt play.

I think Glaus should start at third, but thats bc i have faith in him defensively and offensively, but i certainly dont want to punt defensively just bc we could two hit by a great pitcher.

Also, to everyone complaining about how the Braves swung at bad pitches…thats what good pitchers do, they make you swing at bad pitches… I said it earlier today when talking with Justincredible. TIm was effectively wild. He threw the high fastball and then changed the eye level very effectively by dropping the slider out the bottom of the zone. Its what good pitchers do. and even good hitters struggle laying off those pitches when they are thrown with the movement that Timmy has.

I'm really too angry to sleep

I have such a horrible temper when its comes to the braves.

No crap you do, bitch

Also, “Braves” should be capitalized, asshole

Sorry, sir

Why are you talking to yourself? I find this incredibly disturbing.

Talking to oneself is okay.

Responding is where the disturberation begins.

I think Braves batters were talking to themselves last night.
help please

anyone know how to watch any of this stuff outside of america? The usual venues of streaming dont seem to work…. networks musta upped their protection on this stuff…

well

If I didn’t watch that game and based my knowledge of the outcome solely on Talking Chop commenters I’d probably believe that they lost due to Harlem Globetrotters level shenanigans and an entire army of angry, drunken umpires.

with all respect sir,

FUCK. YOU.

Don't feed the troll

The next person who says shenanigans is getting pistol whipped!

Otherwise, good job outta you. I chuckled.

Hey Farva what’s the name of that restaurant you like with all the goofy shit on the walls and the mozzarella sticks?

TC’s shenanigans are cheeky and fun. Ankiel’s shenanigans are cruel and tragic. So that makes them not shenanigans really. Evil shenanigans!

Omar the Bullfighter

I thought Fred McGriff came out of retirement to play 3B.

Man

There is always whining on here about blown calls by the umpire. That’s part of baseball. Get over it and move on. It’s not like this awful lineup was going to score tonight anyway.

As soon as you get past McCann it becomes the “bottom” of the order. A-Gon, Diaz, Ankiel, Conrad are not that great. I don’t know why Diaz has been hyped so much on this website.

you can't straight say that though

in a 0-0 game the hitters might have not swung at all the bad pitches trying to make up for letting that one in. in a tight game like that, letting even the one run in changes things – it being due to a bad call just makes it that much worse.

It JUST happened tonight

in our first post season game since 2005. And it was a truly shit awful call. We know the offense blows chunks which makes missed calls all the more important. The umps fuckup was literally the difference in the game

you dare

question the Cave-Man???

I don’t know why Diaz has been hyped so much on this website.

It’s a big plot to confuse and anger you. We’re all in on it.

I don’t know why Diaz has been hyped so much on this website.

Probably has something to do with him being a good baseball player.

You won’t make many friends around here bashing Matty.

And the Giants got only 1 run with their "powerful lineup" that they didn't earn.
My aunt is going to be fine.

You get a call telling you someone has been lifeflighted and think the worst. We were told the decision to lifeflight was made at the scene. She has a broken femur that will require surgery.

Other driver had been drinking and supposedly also told the officer he was partaking of Lincecum’s favorite plant.

I appreciate all the kind words and prayers. Now I need sleep because I’m driving to Atlanta tomorrow.

That's great news buddy...I'm glad she's OK
So glad to hear this good news.

We were all posting about you and your aunt into the wee hours.
Nice to read she’s OK this morning.

Very relieved for your family.

Hope her recovery goes well. Keep us up to date!

Don't understand

Why Sandoval was walked and then they pitch to Ross with Ms. Lincecum on deck.

It was a badly executed pitch by DLowe on an unintentional intentional walk…I was initially more pissed about how hittable that pitch was than how O should have made that play.

Ole' Infante.

Trademarked.

nuthin to do with lowe

that was a terrible screw up by Infante on a routine play with a funny bounce. Tip your cap to Lowe, he was gutsy we just fucked up behind him.

Hats off to Lincecum. His slider was really working for him. His fastball was topping out most of the game around 89-91, but that breaking pitch was just diving all over the place. I don’t know how many, but I’d guess well over half of our strikeouts came on pitches well out of the zone.

The Braves are going to have to scratch and claw for runs. Game 2 is uber important. You simply cannot afford to go down two games in a five game series. It seems apparent we simply cannot afford to wait on the big hit, we’ve got to steal, hit and run, bunt, do whatever to get guys on and get guys over.

Win game two and come back home with our ace. I’d feel good about that.

Infante has to knock that ball down

That is all. Omar has to AT LEAST knock it down. I bet Bobby was fuming with Infante’s fuck up last night. Unforgiveable. And I think Conrad’s got the yips, but Cox is so reluctant to play Hernandez.

All in all though, it was a good game. Can’t be suprised at losing Game One to a 2-time Cy Young winner.

Also

Seabass is 2 fer his last 38. That’s .053 BA if you round up. WIth 1 BB with 11 K’s. Ugly. At least he’s playing good D though.

Not for nothing

but I’m willing to wager Yunel would have put up better numbers in this admittedly small sample size with equally proficient defense.

I realize that horse is beyond dead and rotting, but I wanted to take another whack at it seeing as all the Gonzalez defenders took such joy out of celebrating every single accomplishment he had in a Braves uni.

Gonzo

runs harder back to the dugout after a strike out then Yunel ever ran to first on a slow roller up the middle. : ^ )

So he has that going for him, which is nice.
to be honest

I am not much of a fan of either one. Kinda missing Elvis Andrus.

Yeah, but like his namesake,

he left the building a long time ago.

Fish Face

Gonzo makes a better “I’m pissed that I struck out again” face. That’s gotta score some kind of points in a Bill James stat

Maybe his nickname should be “Guppy” then.

Today is a new day.

Tonight will be different. Better. Victorious.

I did not have a good feeling when cody ross came up

After all the times we tried to pick him up or at least rumors swirled about him being a brave, then he comes up to bat with man in scoring position in the scoreless playoff game. I says to myself…whew what a relief a routine groundball,,,,, goddddaaaammmmmiiittttt an error…

Ballgame

Yeah, not really sure why we didn’t just walk him to get to timmy.

if i see another glaus at 3b "idea"

i’m going to lose my shit. there are some things you can second guess, but why do the proponents of the “glaus to 3b idea” think they know the status/abilities of glaus at 3b better than the braves? they watched him like a hawk in the minors and they get to see the guy take infield EVERY TIME. they saw glaus carry the team for a month so they know what he’s capable of when he’s right. obviously there is a reason he isn’t playing third right now. and i’m no expert, but i’m guessing it is because he currently has the mobility of a tree stump. YES, HE CAN BE WORSE THAN CONRAD/INFANTE. now is not the time for this experiment.

This post sums up every thought on the subject I've had.

You win one internet and 10 Schrute bucks.

what is the conversion rate of one schrute buck?

One Schrute buck< One Stanley Nickel<One Wright kajigger.

If that helps.

thnx…maybe ill make a chart of a graph to help me remember

Enough

Bitching about the blown call. What are we, Celtics fans? Or Patriots fans? Or red Sox fans? Man, I hate Boston.

Seriously, though. Enough. Bad calls happen. Baseball doesn’t need instant replay on these plays and we don’t need to cry about this. We didn’t lose because Posey was called safe. We lost because we couldn’t have hit the effin ball with a tennis racket. You have to score at least one run to win a ballgame. And we didn’t even do that.

i get your point but...

yes, we do need instant replay. you need to get the call right, period. it will eliminate the very bitching that you are talking about. we didn’t hit and infante had a chance to make the call moot if he fields that ball. we didn’t do enough to win that game. at the same time, it should have been tied 0-0. do we win that game if the call was right? probably not, the way we were hitting. but we’ll never know.

if the game stays 0-0

you don’t know what would happen. maybe the Braves would take an extra pitch or two. it’s likely they wouldn’t, however, approaches do change when you are trailing vs being tied. so maybe Omar is a more patient and not trying to atone for the ball getting by him. maybe everyone else stops taking home run cuts at every ball.

by my count

zero-zero wouldn’t be counted as a loss. You are looking at extra innings in a scoreless game and a battle of bullpens. The odds would have been against us but who knows what would have happened. So yeah, we DID lose because Posey was called safe.

exactly.
I find it so funny...

How one person can say, “IT CHANGES EVERYTHING,” and then another person says the game would automatically still be 0-0, which is contradictory to what the first person said.

Then the initial person says, “Exactly,” even though their two points are completely contradictory to each other.

It’s pretty sweet how easily a person’s individual biases may be seen.

-C

well

I guess we can hope for the umps to win and lose the games for us… I’d rather the Braves, you know, HIT and PLAY DEFENSE well. If we do those two things, we win that game. NO EXCUSES. Blaming a loss on a bad call is a pussy move

i am okay with replay in this scenario in playoff baseball…not so much in regular season…just blown calls in the postseason are magnified…of course, every year there r blown calls in playoff baseball…and every team thus far has had to deal with them…

I am not blaming anything on anyone

Just stating the facts. Posey is called out and the game is still scoreless going into the bottom of the ninth. I am not happy about the loss but I have moved on. But it was a bad call that costed us the game. No denying that. I am totally in agreement that our offense and defense was terrible last night. And that if we don’t get it fixed it won’t take a blown call to lose the game tonight.

I still love this team and think

they can take this series. But when the season does come to an end and we look back and reflect I think that the truth is we just lost waaaay too many key parts to successfully contend with the best teams in baseball, especially offensively.

Things I'm happy about

1. The weekend
2. Cyborg making his postseason debut. (It’s gone pretty well for most of the pitchers so far this postseason.)
3. The fact that, while frustrating and a little annoying, playoff OTs are fun to participate in.
4. I still have beer in my fridge
5. The Giants offense is not panic-inducing.

Plus

It a beautiful day here in Tennessee.

As it is here in Minnesota.
grrrr

I’m mad at Minnesota.

You’re mad at a state?

I'm being unreasonable.

My son-in-law is from Minnesota. He and my daughter now live in Louisville, KY. We recently learned she is pregnant (I"m going to be a grandmother — the world’s youngest, BTW), and he has decided he should find a job in Minnesota and they should move up there. So, I guess I’m mad at him, but I’m projecting my displeasure to the entire state.

plus they keep losing to the Yankees…which is annoying…but its probably more the first thing

Ahhh. I see.

Minnesota is actually a nice place to visit. Not so much to live here. Unless you’re a polar bear or a penguin.

Come up and see Minnesota Nice firsthand.

Final score predictions???????
100-0

Heyward gets tired of running around the bases and lets Melky finish his trots for him. Hanson strikes out 29 in a complete game shutout on 87 pitches and Nate McLouth spontaneously combusts. Bank on it

also

Tommy helps himself by hitting 3 grand slams. In the same inning
Bobby puts himself in at 2nd base in the 4th inning after Conrad’s 14th error of the night.
Ankiel throws himself out at home plate from the warning track on the fly.
Diroy Hernandez hits for the cycle. Twice.

And Dick Stockton learns how to pronounce the letter R.
Come on, let's be realistic now. Those r's are vewwy difficult to leawn.
I would be happy...

if someone told him it is IN-FAHN-TAY not IN-FAHN-TEE…..

And Buster Posey explodes and vanishes after he strikes out for the 5th time that night.

Chino Leads Off

Bobby leads off his lineup with Chino Cadahia, who drops a successful drag bunt down the first base line. Steals second and third on successive pitches. Scores on a close play at the plate on a passed ball when he successfully leaps over Matt Cain to drop his hand on home plate. Boom 1-0.

and then...

the Giants get a play with no time on the clock, because we had 13 men on the field…

wait…that’s a different nightmare…

you sound like you need a hug right now…
