I one hundred percent love way that Grant at McCovey Chronicles blogs, even when he insults you it's hilarious. I only wish I had one tenth the crazy humorous writing ability that he has. One of the things I will enjoy most about this Braves - Giants series is reading his daily rabble. Here is his latest:
My distaste for the Braves is rooted in a couple of things:
They’ve been good for several decades now. When their franchise-type catcher gets old, they put an ad on Craigslist and get another one within a week. When they give a big deal to an ex-Oakland ace, it works out. When they get rid of Andruw Jones, he craters. When they keep Chipper Jones, he just puts up fantastic season after fantastic season. They’ve had two seasons under .500 in the past twenty years. Seriously, that’s a bunch of nonsense. What a bunch of bourgeoisie swine. Spread it around, you jackals.
He goes on to list what he sees as his most annoying Braves of the past 20 years, reserving a special spot at number-7 for ... wait for it ... Melvin Nieves. Even if Braves fans have forgotten that name, Grant has not. Nieves was the "key piece" of likely the most important trade deadline deal ever when we flipped him and two other neveramountedtoanything prospects for the Crime Dog in 1993 -- then caught the Giants to win the NL West, despite San Fran winning 103 games. That crazy race had a lot to do with the creation of the Wild Card ... the next year. That probably just makes Giants fans even more bitter.
Or maybe they're bitter because the four times they've made the playoffs since the Wild Card came into existence, they've been beaten by the Wild Card team each time.
1997: Lost NLDS to Marlins
2000: Lost NLDS to Mets
2002: Lost World Series to Angels
2003: Lost NLDS to Marlins
Three times the team they lost to has won the World Series.

I just visited their site when you posted the Q&A, and I have to admit, they may be my favorite non-Braves site out there.
Great people who seem smart, and are really nice.

Really, Justin? Your FAVORITE ‘non-Braves’ website?
Okay…

the comments
Damn, people do hate them some lovable Braves. People exist who hate Lemke? Seriously? I can understand the dislike for players like John Rocker, Deion, and Dave Justice. But so many of those others are just nondescript with little personality. It’s not like we had a team of A-rods. Or as frozendesert said, Barry Bonds.
softbatch - October 7, 2010
It’s kind of like the hate I have for Roy Halladay. The dude is amazingly talented, and by all accounts, an extremely nice guy. But, my God, would my life (not his life, my life) be better if:
a) He had never made it out of the minors
b) If he had lost his arm in a farm accident
c) If he got called as a General Authority of the LDS church (as he is Mormon) and therefore could not play baseball ever again (preferably before the NLCS)
d) If he died in a fire
e) etc…
frozendesert - October 7, 2010
the origins of hate
I was thinking more on this and talking with a friend and Braves fan. We sort of agree that we tend to “hate” players who:
- Have dickish, douchey, whatever personalities (Barry Bonds)
- Receive a ton of media attention (Derek Jeter)
- Do cheating or suspicious things (Kent Hrbek)
We don’t tend to dislike players who just make good plays against my team. Mariano Rivera is a good example of this. We just can’t bring myself to hate the guy. We hate his team, his owning family, his teammates, and his stereotypical fans. But not he.
Upon reflection, I can think of one player I dislike based on one play he made against the Braves: Jim Leyritz.
softbatch - October 7, 2010
I agree. I would add though that although we can respect a player, I find myself actively rooting for such things as abysmal performance or injury.
frozendesert - October 7, 2010
Leyritz is a murderer, so there’s a valid reason to hate him.

Wild card
That SF/ATL race for the NL West was Beyond Epic, a 34 on the scale from Pretty Awesomely Epic to Insanely Preposterously Epic. I remember that race like it was yesterday.
Thanks for the memory!
Yakker - October 7, 2010
If you people haven't read this
It is a must.
Arguably, the best thing ever written in the dregs of ESPN.
royhobbs - October 7, 2010
Thanks
Oh, this is awesome. Bonds came up to Leo at the ASB and told him the NL West race was over? Classic.
David Nied, John Burkett, and Neon Deion. Love it.
1995 was the year that will live on in the history books, but me, I’ll never forget ’93.
Yakker - October 7, 2010
Strongest Braves team of the run.
Glavine, Maddux, Smoltz and Avery, in his last great season, plus a lineup that included Justice, Gant and Fred McGriff. Best pennant race of the 2 division era.
My current bone-deep loathing of the Phillies originated with that bunch of grimy, bemulletted assholes. I will always have a place in my heart for Joe Carter and Cito Gaston for saving the world from the squalid spectacle of a World Series parade featuring Dykstra, Darren Daulton and John Kruk.
Sam Jethroe - October 7, 2010
Daulton, LOL
Didn’t he get beat up by his girlfriend, or was that Chuck Finley? Did they both date the Whitesnake girl? It’s all a little fuzzy.
Oh, and don’t forget…Chipper’s September call-up was 1993 as well.

They are ragging on us for not having many comments…out of curiously, where did TC rank in the SBNation mlb blogs? I’m pretty sure I read it earler in the season.
jbeachbum24 - October 7, 2010
It's presumptuous of me to say this
But blogging and internet geeking seems more prevalent in the Pacific/Pacific Northwest. I look at the SBN blogs for the Giants, A’s, and Mariners, and they all have gigantic readerships, full of intelligent, debate-enjoying, albeit often smarmy and arrogant at time members.
Personally, I think ragging on other teams’ blogs based on solely their comment count is about as cool of a thing to do as Limp Bizkit, but if they want to feel superior over us as much as possible, to each their own.
royhobbs - October 7, 2010
Much like bringing up a poster's post total
to win an argument. You may be right, but you just look like a douche doing it.
UMDBHIK - October 7, 2010
Not going to say I don't check from time to time
But sometimes it’s useful to get an idea of how long a person’s been around, because sometimes people show up just to deliberately pick fights, troll, or to spout off, or sometimes people have had a bad day, or an opinion that they’re vehemently adamant passionate about. But I pretty much agree with your assessment.
royhobbs - October 7, 2010
There’s a difference between dismissing a comment because it came from someone new, and dismissing it because it’s stupid. Stupid comments should be challenged no matter who they come from. Hell, I’ve been here only 7 months, but I say dumb shit from time to time.
UMDBHIK - October 7, 2010
Depends
If someone who signed up a day ago, and is making umbrella statements about the community as a whole, then it’s nice to somewhat verify the absurdity of it. That could also be chalked up as a stupid statement, too, however. Granted, nine times out of ten, when called out, such people always claim that they’ve “been around for years, but never signed up,” but it’s the discretion of the reader on whether or not they’re believed.
royhobbs - October 7, 2010
I think I win that one. :)
justincredubil02 - October 7, 2010
I will say in fairness to them
The majority seem to be nice, level headed posters from what I have read. A little ribbing is always fun, except their hating on Skip Caray. I’m just suprised so many of them are able to post during working hours.
jbeachbum24 - October 7, 2010
I'm not saying they're all arrogant dotcom nerds
And I agree, there are plenty of posters on the aforementioned sites who write a lot of great things, as well as the decent quality of writing from their staffs. But poking fun at the sites themselves and their user bases seems kind of petty, to me.
Regardless, I try not to make that big of a habit of really concerning myself with what goes at the current opposition’s SBN site. It’s often times time consuming enough combing through our own threads, let alone the quadruplicate contributions of that of a McC. But honestly, most of the time, I just don’t really care of what the McCs, TGPs, and AAs general consensuses of TC and the Atlanta Braves are, but it doesn’t mean I can’t respect and admire some of the intellects and writers of our oppositions’ sites.
royhobbs - October 7, 2010
Yeah
I rarely go over to the other sites but I just couldn’t help myself, this being the playoffs and all. Now note that I just go and read, I find it better not to even try and get involved.
jbeachbum24 - October 7, 2010
The Mariners blog is amazing
Great writers over there.
E-Lizz - October 7, 2010 via mobile
This
LL and USSM are both just insanely good blogs.
Yakker - October 7, 2010
LL had me
With the endless hilarity of the Raul Ibanez gifs. Unfortunately, such absurdity has mostly been avoided with his tenure in Philadelphia.
royhobbs - October 7, 2010
No disrespect to any other blogger
But Jeff Sullivan over at LL is my favorite SB blogger. Always posts intelligent and insightful stuff. And he’s a comedic genius I am convinced.
E-Lizz - October 7, 2010 via mobile
Not at all
Jeff Sullivan’s humility is charming, and I enjoy reading his stuff myself.
royhobbs - October 7, 2010
Yeah, we do that a lot
I, for one, don’t particularly like it.

Why does he hate Quilvio Veras? I forgot he existed.
TradeAndruw - October 7, 2010
Over the line!
1. Klesko at #3?! Nobody hates the great Ryan Klesko!
B. They dog the hell out of poor Skip Caray, how dare they! (Although the picture of Don Sutton referencing AC Slater was pretty good.)
I will burn their blog to the ground, deuce on the ashes, and set up a Justin Bieber fan site in its place.

Grant is thinking on an entirely different plane (or maybe 'planet')
Names that failed to make his list: Rocker, Wohlers, Gant and McGriff (though these last two were probably an accident).
Should Have Been Honorable Mention: William Eckert – baseball commissioner when the Braves moved from Milwaukee to Atlanta… and yet stayed in the NL Western division.
Names that DID make the list: Mike Hampton?? Seriously?? Maybe only because two other teams paid the Braves so that he could occupy a roster spot.
carpengui - October 7, 2010
Nieves IS the McGriff mention on this list. he was the man that San Diego received for Fred McGriff.

Seriously...
I’ve told you guys before that I don’t like to troll, but rather read other team’s blogs to find out the kind of insight on a team that only the fanbase has. The quality varies from blog to blog. As does the fan participation…. Fishstripes…. just makes me really really sad.
You guys, {disclaimer} although I hate you and your club and your players and their pets and their pets fleas with the burning intensity of a thousand suns, {/disclaimer} tend to be passionate, knowledgable and – most importantly funny – fans.
I LOVE The Good Phight and laugh hard every day at some regulars and their posts and my god do they know their shit.
All that said…
McCovey Chronicles is the funniest goddamned baseball blog I’ve come across on the interwebs. I’m not saying it’s the best. I’m not saying it’s the most baseball savvy. I’m not saying it has the most die-hards.
But it is the opposing team blog with the highest Laughing-My-Ass-Off-on-jokes-in-Game-Thread average in SBNation.
Any group of fans that after 3 months with him pick up on Pat Burrell’s chain-smoking, hard-drinking, skirt-dropping ways an love him for it can’t be too bad….
