I’m at work, and I had gone to Publix to get some dinner and I was sitting in the parking lot at work listening to Hinkse’s at-bat. I almost broke my dashboard when he hit that homer.
i was just thinking that… and wondering how a douchebag that looks like a medieval page boy/ professor snape/ every serial killer on television is actually good at something
Bobby’s been managing for this long and doesn’t understand the concept of a defensive replacement? Doesn’t realize that Kimbrel has the best stuff in our pen by far? Doesn’t understand that Huff hasn’t had trouble hitting Dunn?
He better not be in the lineup tomorrow. 3 errors and a popped up bunt. Not to mention the many other mistakes and he can’t hit anything. There’s being loyal and then there’s being stupid.
Not Conrad's Fault. It was Bobby's. HUFF hits lefties better than righties. LOOK AT YOUR MATCHUPS.
Unbelievable
That was a terrible managerial call. Huff has a much better chance of hitting a lefty throwing 90, than a righty throwing 96. Look at the batter your are matching up with if you’re playing Matchups. This isn’t freaking rocket science.
That is NOT Conrad’s fault
It’s COX’s fault for taking Kimbrel out. This is going to be your guy. Let him close it out. I am so fucking disgusted with this overmanaging arbitrary matchup coaching. Absolutely ridiculous.
Was a BAD matchup decision. Huff hits lefties better than righties and Cox clearly didn’t KNOW that. It was stupid on any statistical vector you look at.
It’s Bobby Cox. Why Bring dunn in there. Explain that to me. ANYONE, I defy you to explain how that change makes ANY sense if you’re even remotely paying attention to what you’re actually doing.
The mental weight of his struggles is hurting him. That error in the 9th was a 1/1000000 type of thing, something no one expects. You can blame the manager for not predicting that, but it’s not his fault. Bobby just doesn’t have a lot to work with.
Cornad: Bad bat, no glove at all.
Diory: No bat, ok glove.
We’ve already seen how errors can absolutely kill this team’s chances in literally dozens of games this season. Given that, how can Bobby in good conscience run Conrad out there, knowing that the man can’t field his position?
It’s just a refusal to think outside the box. That’s on Bobby.
And not against high-level pitching like the Giants are throwing out there. Given his track record (not just from this season), you can’t expect much out of Conrad’s bat. Bobby acknowledges that by having him sac bunt in every close spot in this series. Diory can lay down a bunt just as well as Conrad.
There is a difference between their offensive value, but because neither of them is likely to do anything valuable with the bat, you’ve got to look to the glove. And there, it’s just no contest. Conrad isn’t capable of major league defense, and Diory is. He should be starting.
Do you think defense isn’t a skill? Do you think you or I could go out there and play second or third base in the major leagues? If not, then you should be able to acknowledge that it’s possible, even likely from what we’ve seen of Conrad that he simply is not capable of competent defense, just like, for example, many pitchers are not capable of competent hitting.
If Bobby had Derek Lowe hitting cleanup, you’d have no problem calling that a bad call on his part. And yet when he obstinately continues to make Brooks Conrad try to do a job he’s not good enough to do, noting that is “making excuses for Brooks.” Why? It’s Brooks’ job to attempt any task his manager gives him. But it’s Bobby’s job to know when a guy is not capable of getting the job done.
And it isn’t his job to take himself off the field for suckitude. Bobby is supposed to evaluate players and make these decisions, and Bobby has failed to make the right call in this case, with catastrophic (though not entirely predictable) results.
You’ve made ONE comment ever before this game. I’m not sure you realize that the players on the field were the ones that lost this game, most notably Brooks Conrad, the baseball “player” at second base who made two errors than cost the team two runs and countless pitches from Hudson.
Look at Huff’s Numbers right v. lefty. He’s a better hitter against lefties. Bobby clearly didn’t even KNOW that because there’s NO OTHER REASON to make that move. NONE.
Conrad’s never in the position to make that error after Kimbrel gets out Huff. No way huff catches up to hard throwing righty as he does against softer lefty. Cox “worked” the matchup RIGHT into Huff’s FAVOR. That is unforgivable.
Doesn't matter what anyone else did. We had that game won
and bobby cox lost it by taking kimbrel out against huff. that was a retarded call, based totally on a matchup “advantage” that didn’t exist b/c Huff actually hits lefties better than rightes
I don’t feel right blaming Brooks for a run that almost certainly would have scored anyway. PLUS, you can’t tell me that Brooks at 2nd is any more viable than Glaus at 3rd, he could have started and moved Omar to 2nd.
Not to mention Brooks error was just the go ahead run. I still say Kimbrel gets the save if he stays out there.
It’s is bobby’s fault that he toook out Kimbrel. We had the game won and he gave it way by not recognizing that lefty-lefty is a bad matchup against Huff
I put a lot of it on Bobby because his mistake was the final one. Meaning, he had a chance to correct all previous mistakes. he didn’t. Therefore, he had the last chance to make it right, deserving of the majority of the glame.
He could have left Kimbrel in to pitch against the guy that owns lefties instead of putting a lefty out there.
Diory can field 2nd. Period. When you’re up in the top of the 9th you put your best defensive players out there, especially when you’re not taking offense off the field to do so!
B/c he’s never in the position to get the 3rd error if Bobby leaves in Kimbrel v. Huff which was a BETTER MATCHUP against huff. Huff hits lefties better than righties.
WOW! Did you practice to be a moron or were you born this way?
I’ll ask again since you seem to be unable to read. How do you know Kimbrel does not induce a ground ball to second base? I don’t care what the bloody matchup is. Farsnworth induced what 99 times out of 100 is an OUT.
He was throwing heat but control is sketchy at best sometimes…..It’s over you can second guess all damn night…but you know what??? We f’in lost. We come back out tomorrow and try again. I will go with Bobby on this any day. Remember how long he’s done this? And how long have YOU managed an MLB team???
A manager worth his weight in salt recognizes that Conrad has been awful defensively at 2nd base and puts in a natural 2nd baseman (DIORY) at the position in the top of the 9th.
That same manager also doesn’t take out Kimbrel. Let’s not even discuss pinch running a catcher for a catcher (which didn’t matter, ultimately).
True, I was meaning our team tipping their cap to the other team’s pitcher etc.
Between our swinging at balls in the dirt and our errors, they didn’t have to do much to get that one.
But he didn’t help much either. Diory Hernandez is useless with the bat so he has to be on the roster for later innings defense… How do you not put him in the game? If he’s not there for that situation then I can’t imagine why he’s there at all.
Is actually WORSE with the bat than Conrad. But it doesn’t matter: Conrad is bad enough that you lose very little on the offensive side, and Conrad is SO awful with the glove that it’s basically a high baseball crime to have him play infield.
How he was a genius when Hinske hit the homer…..now he’s the goat….I am not totally defending him. But if we had been more patient or had a competent umpire behind the plate and actually hit the ball…we wouldn’t be having all this hating on Conrad or Bobby.
1st game – 2nd Base Ump: called safe an out that later would score the only run of the game.
2nd game – 1st Base Ump: called out Alex Gonzalez Groundball when Huff wasn´t stepping the 1st base. He tossed Cox.
3rd game – HP Ump: called strike, 5 or 6 inches outside pitches.
4rd game – 3rd Base Ump?
Kenshin Kawakami is a professional baseball player
Who is paid a lot of money to pitch. And yet, that is not a justification managers can use to actually ask him to pitch if they have better options available.
But Bobby doesn't know what play is going to need to be made.
All that he knows is that Conrad is far less capable than Diory Hernandez of making any of them. And therefore, the right call is Conrad out (of all the games), Diory in.
1. Conrad = 3 errors. cost 2 unearned run a lot of unnecesary pitches to the pitchers.
2. Bobby = bring Dunn ot face Huff
3. Emmel = Crazy Strikezone
4. Starting Lineup offense = 3 hits (1 from Hudson) 1 BB (Lee in the 1st inning), a ton of K, 0 Run.
Ok I get it, Bobby loves Brooks because he reminds him of himself. Thats why he will play his horrible glove over Troy Glaus, Eric Hinske and Diory Hernndez. Why in the fuck would you leave him out there after even the FIRST ERROR!! This is the fucking playoffsBobby you don’t get second chances!!
Bobby sucks, I can’t stand it. 20 years of this shit I have watched. All totally blowing it in the playoffs. Taking out Kimbrel was unbelievably stupid but having Conrad in there after you got a lead was unforgivable. If Diory makes that error, I can forgive that because you are trying to at least put the better fielder out there. Not doing that just tempts fate and fate bitchslapped Bobby AGAIN.
GOd I’m glad he gone.
those weren’t plays that an above avg fielder makes. those are plays that any competent-below avg player makes. it was embarrassing watching him and embarrassing that #6 did not remove him from the game.
Completely conventional, by the book, no-value-added manager. And he doesn’t have Bobby’s legendary rep or rapport with the players to make up for it. Christ, I hope he isn’t our next manager.
I feel like it will hurt more to watch them bumble their way around the field and play like Little Leaguers than it will to watch their slow strangulation at the plate.
Is he the closer or not? Everything indicated that he was filling in for Wags. These others guys aren’t used to closing. You don’t pull Wags for a matchup and he shouldn’t have done that to Kimbrel either.
Let's fucking go CK!

The Goche - October 10, 2010
Bobby Cox Bullpen Management: LULZ!!!
EricGreggWasPaidOff - October 10, 2010
Damn
can we score another run
UltimaParadox - October 10, 2010
We could be going to the extra innings with nothing left in the bullpen
I’m kind of hating Bobby’s bullpen management right now.
SS451 - October 10, 2010
I'm sure you would have pressed all the right buttons here
Bronn - October 10, 2010
We have Saito, Beachy and Martinez left.
justincredubil02 - October 10, 2010
WHY NOT KEEP IN KIMBREL
MikeTrain - October 10, 2010
I wondered that myself.
taney71 - October 10, 2010
No good answer to that.
Just a bad move.
SS451 - October 10, 2010
Kimbrel wasn't throwing strikes
He might even ahve been bailed out on Torres with a strange call
Bronn - October 10, 2010
You know bobby....
FitzFan - October 10, 2010
Guys... it's okay... just setting up the walk off.
SuperNewb - October 10, 2010
I dont want a dang walkoff, I wanted the game to be EFFING OVER
letsgobravos - October 10, 2010
We still have the bottom of the ninth, folks.
UMDBHIK - October 10, 2010
And, we aren’t losing…
justincredubil02 - October 10, 2010
Just setting up the dramatic Heyward walkoff
JC29 - October 10, 2010
It's bad when even the TBS announcers know Huff hits lefties
and this was a risky thing to do. And we do it anyway.
NCChopper - October 10, 2010
Fuck Dunn
Should have left in Kimbrel.
Tacodude - October 10, 2010
We are burning up the bullpen
And I don’t understand why
thrilliam - October 10, 2010
Not at all clear
So we’ve got Farnsworth and Martinez left at this point. Anyone else?
SS451 - October 10, 2010
Maybe Saito.
BullManUGA - October 10, 2010
saito, beachy
justincredubil02 - October 10, 2010
that was full of fail
after we got the only good hit all night
MikeTrain - October 10, 2010
How many shots of Lincecum yelling “FUCK YEH SHUT UP!” is TBS going to show?
Ron A. - October 10, 2010
lol
I was wondering that too
thrilliam - October 10, 2010
i was just thinking that… and wondering how a douchebag that looks like a medieval page boy/ professor snape/ every serial killer on television is actually good at something
BMacAttack - October 10, 2010
This is seriously on Bobby.
He walked Sandoval in Game 1 which let Cody Ross drive in the winning run.
He takes out Kimbrel, who has closing experience, for Dunn and blows it.
I’m ready for him retire. He’s a great regular season manager. He’s horrible when it matters.
Scott Coleman - October 10, 2010 via mobile
Bobby didn’t walk Ishikawa.
Bobby didn’t give up the hit to Torres.
Kimbrel throws strikes the game is over.
UMDBHIK - October 10, 2010
100% Agreed
It is so easy to second guess choices with 20/20 hindsight… but for shit sake, I didn’t like those moves before they happened, let alone afterwards.
MartinMcFly - October 10, 2010
So is Saito healthy or not?
FitzFan - October 10, 2010
Irrelevant, he's not on the roster.

UMDBHIK - October 10, 2010
Umm didn't he replace Wags?
FitzFan - October 10, 2010
Did he?
I thought they were to wait and see.
SS451 - October 10, 2010
going to*
SS451 - October 10, 2010
Far as I heard Wags is done until the WS at least.

I thought you left when we lost this game back in the 6th inning?
justincredubil02 - October 10, 2010
Look at the scoreboard.
We went from losing because we couldn’t hit the ball to losing because our manager is an idiot.
TennesseeQuackAttack8 - October 10, 2010
We went from losing, to winning because our manager is a genius, to tied because Kimbrel couldn’t locate to losing because Conrad sucks.
I love how you only appear when we are losing…
justincredubil02 - October 10, 2010
What the hell are you talking about?
Bobby’s been managing for this long and doesn’t understand the concept of a defensive replacement? Doesn’t realize that Kimbrel has the best stuff in our pen by far? Doesn’t understand that Huff hasn’t had trouble hitting Dunn?
TennesseeQuackAttack8 - October 10, 2010
Kimbrel’s “best stuff” put 2 runners on base.
justincredubil02 - October 10, 2010
Thanks Brooks. You cost us the game you piece of shit.
taney71 - October 10, 2010

He’s been absolutely awful this series.
BigG1392 - October 10, 2010
brooks conrad

taney71 - October 10, 2010

EricGreggWasPaidOff - October 10, 2010
Not to me.
justincredubil02 - October 10, 2010
then you cheer him

when he is not the one who made the decision for him to play knowing that he is good for at least 1 error per game.
letsgobravos - October 10, 2010
Why do you continue to ignore the fact that Bobby Cox has not committed 3 fielding errors that have led to 2 runs?
justincredubil02 - October 10, 2010

justincredubil02 - October 10, 2010

STFU!!!!
Kimbrel tried his best but got taken out the game so why should Conrad be given a break after 3 games of manure

Because booing him and calling him names is going to make up for his athletic deficiencies.
Riiiiight.

why did bobby take out Kimbrel? Why is Bobby ruining this game?
Bobby ruined htis game.

Tacodude - October 10, 2010
What’s wrong with you?
UMDBHIK - October 10, 2010
Spazio Elutherius - October 10, 2010
It wasn’t Conrad’s fault he missed a routine grounder? HOW?
BullManUGA - October 10, 2010
TWO routine grounders…
justincredubil02 - October 10, 2010
That routine grounder wouldn't even be a concern if Bobby managed the pitching better
MartinMcFly - October 10, 2010
If you can’t handle a routine grounder you shouldn’t be on a major league field.

Who put Brooks out there???
letsgobravos - October 10, 2010
Who missed routine plays?
justincredubil02 - October 10, 2010
heyward and brooks
Mr. Sanchez - October 10, 2010
Who allowed a guy that has proven himself to be inept at making plays out there?
TennesseeQuackAttack8 - October 10, 2010
Do you expect every pitcher to strike out every batter?
BullManUGA - October 10, 2010
Nope it's Brooks fault for chocking
FitzFan - October 10, 2010
Despite all of that, Conrad still fucked up. Bottom line.
BigG1392 - October 10, 2010
seriously its one thing
to blame a matchup…
But Conrad has 3 errors…3
UltimaParadox - October 10, 2010
so bobby overmanages when he makes pitching changes, and overmanages when he leaves starters in too long?
make up your mind
Qtips - October 10, 2010
Wait... I saw a ground ball hit to conrad... easily fieldable...
What did Bobby do? run onto the field and swat the ball out of the way before he could get it????
SuperNewb - October 10, 2010
lets get this out before we get started on the bottom of the ninth
gtbravesfan - October 10, 2010
I'm done
I can’t stand this. I am so angry at Bobby for keeping Brooks out there. I’m not even mad at Brooks.
IT IS THE 9TH INNING, WHY NOT PUT DIORY IN?! WHY NOT LEAVE YOUR CLOSER OF THE FUTURE IN?!
MartinMcFly - October 10, 2010

taney71 - October 10, 2010

gtbravesfan - October 10, 2010

Matchups
LOOK AT YOUR ACTUAL MATCHUP if you’re going to pitch matchups. Huff hits lefties better than righties. Look at the MATCHUP. WTF????

TennesseeQuackAttack8 - October 10, 2010
What decisions?!?!
He’s only playing with what he has left to play with!
Jay212033 - October 10, 2010
I'm fairly sure he, um, isn't using a 2nd baseman that understands how to play defense.
TennesseeQuackAttack8 - October 10, 2010
And what other, um, other options do we have?
Jay212033 - October 10, 2010
Diory Hernandez, perhaps?
TennesseeQuackAttack8 - October 10, 2010
Um NO
Jay212033 - October 10, 2010
And why not?
TennesseeQuackAttack8 - October 10, 2010
His Decision to TAKE KIMBREL OUT
Was a BAD matchup decision. Huff hits lefties better than righties and Cox clearly didn’t KNOW that. It was stupid on any statistical vector you look at.
Spazio Elutherius - October 10, 2010
its safe to say we need to win this game if we want to win this series
i doubt we can score versus lincecum
gtbravesfan - October 10, 2010
It's not Brooks
It’s Bobby Cox. Why Bring dunn in there. Explain that to me. ANYONE, I defy you to explain how that change makes ANY sense if you’re even remotely paying attention to what you’re actually doing.
Spazio Elutherius - October 10, 2010
I don’t want Conrad in a fucking Braves uniform again

Jay212033 - October 10, 2010
It's not Brooks' fault.
I feel for him. It’s Bobby who’s too hidebound to see that Brooks is simply defensively incapable of doing the job of a starting infielder.
SS451 - October 10, 2010
Hidebound? Anyway it is Brooks;s fault for not making simple plays

Bobby Cox for the LOSS
Spazio Elutherius - October 10, 2010
conrad
Hektor DiPaula - October 10, 2010
Who started him at second?
Bobby did.
SS451 - October 10, 2010
And Bobby knew he was commit three errors?
Bronn - October 10, 2010
If Bobby was paying attention this last week, he should have known that was a distinct possibility.
Brooks Conrad is not capable of fielding at a major league level at second or third. It should have been Diory out there today.
SS451 - October 10, 2010
Brooks has not been this bad before
The mental weight of his struggles is hurting him. That error in the 9th was a 1/1000000 type of thing, something no one expects. You can blame the manager for not predicting that, but it’s not his fault. Bobby just doesn’t have a lot to work with.
Bronn - October 10, 2010
He's got Diory Hernandez.
SS451 - October 10, 2010
Conrad was a decent hitter during the season
Decent, not great. I guess because he’s not hitting in the series that means he sucks? Maybe we should take heyward out too.
Bronn - October 10, 2010
he lost a fucking extremely important game with his own two hands
Kobe:The Legend - October 10, 2010
Mostly pinch-hitting, so favorable-ish matchups
And not against high-level pitching like the Giants are throwing out there. Given his track record (not just from this season), you can’t expect much out of Conrad’s bat. Bobby acknowledges that by having him sac bunt in every close spot in this series. Diory can lay down a bunt just as well as Conrad.
There is a difference between their offensive value, but because neither of them is likely to do anything valuable with the bat, you’ve got to look to the glove. And there, it’s just no contest. Conrad isn’t capable of major league defense, and Diory is. He should be starting.
SS451 - October 10, 2010
Stop making excuses for Brooks
FitzFan - October 10, 2010
I don't get this attitude.
SS451 - October 10, 2010
yep
taney71 - October 10, 2010
Reminds me of some of the playoff losses during our 1990s runs.
Bobby over thinking shit.
taney71 - October 10, 2010

Kobe:The Legend - October 10, 2010

TennesseeQuackAttack8 - October 10, 2010
A capable manager did
Bronn - October 10, 2010
Yeah, ok.
TennesseeQuackAttack8 - October 10, 2010
I guess Conrad wrote his own name on the lineup card.
Player-manager Brooks Conrad!
SS451 - October 10, 2010
I guess Bobby flubbed those 3 plays then
FitzFan - October 10, 2010
It isn't Brooks' fault he's not good enough.
And it isn’t his job to take himself off the field for suckitude. Bobby is supposed to evaluate players and make these decisions, and Bobby has failed to make the right call in this case, with catastrophic (though not entirely predictable) results.
SS451 - October 10, 2010
I don't get this
Please explain
Bronn - October 10, 2010
You’ve made ONE comment ever before this game. I’m not sure you realize that the players on the field were the ones that lost this game, most notably Brooks Conrad, the baseball “player” at second base who made two errors than cost the team two runs and countless pitches from Hudson.
BullManUGA - October 10, 2010
NO
Look at Huff’s Numbers right v. lefty. He’s a better hitter against lefties. Bobby clearly didn’t even KNOW that because there’s NO OTHER REASON to make that move. NONE.
Spazio Elutherius - October 10, 2010
MY POINT IS
Conrad’s never in the position to make that error after Kimbrel gets out Huff. No way huff catches up to hard throwing righty as he does against softer lefty. Cox “worked” the matchup RIGHT into Huff’s FAVOR. That is unforgivable.
Spazio Elutherius - October 10, 2010
Again
Kimbrel wasn’t really throwing many strikes. He’d already allowed two baserunners. And Mike Dunn isn’t exactly a soft-throwing lefty either.
Bronn - October 10, 2010
Dunn is not a softer lefty. Even if Kimbrel stays in Brooks still could've screwed him up too.
FitzFan - October 10, 2010
Farsnworth induced a ROUTINE GROUND BALL that any number of not shitass baseball men could convert into an out.

NCChopper - October 10, 2010

It was bobby cox for taking out Kimbrel
Spazio Elutherius - October 10, 2010
No it was Brooks. Stop acting like Kimbrel would've automatically gotten out of it. He did allow 2 runners.
FitzFan - October 10, 2010
I don’t get this. He is completely unable to accept the possibility that Kimbrel would have not gotten a strike out.
BullManUGA - October 10, 2010
Brooks
may need to switch teams after this season is over. He is not gonna be liked at all in Atlanta anymore after that. lol
AlabamaTitans2009 - October 10, 2010
this postseason loss brought to you by
Bobby Cox’s poor postseason management
Brooks Conrad’s inability to play defense
and Paul Emmel’s desire to fuck us at every base in the series
knarf - October 10, 2010
The whole southeast
wants to get a piece of Conrad right about now.
BigG1392 - October 10, 2010
Doesn't matter what anyone else did. We had that game won
and bobby cox lost it by taking kimbrel out against huff. that was a retarded call, based totally on a matchup “advantage” that didn’t exist b/c Huff actually hits lefties better than rightes
Spazio Elutherius - October 10, 2010
The game was not won at all.
FitzFan - October 10, 2010
All you fuckers blaming Brooks need ask yourself why he was out there in the first place???
He should have been on the damn bench wayyy before today when it became apparent that he was incapable of playing even the most basic defense.
letsgobravos - October 10, 2010
you are fucker dumbass, Cox is not playing out there
Kobe:The Legend - October 10, 2010
Yeah but he decides who plays and he is to blame for putting a guy out there that is an
absolute error machine.
letsgobravos - October 10, 2010
I guess Bobby gets full credit for everything that happens on the field?
Well congrats to him for using Hinske to get the home run. All you, Bobby.
Bronn - October 10, 2010
No you 2 fuckers blaming Bobby %100 need to ask yourself did Bobby boot the easy grounder.

He wrote the lineup card which put Brooks Conrad in front of that grounder.
And that is on him.

FitzFan - October 10, 2010
No it isn't.
But it isn’t like it was the 1st inning. It was the bottom of the 9th and we had a narrow lead. Brooks shouldn’t have been in the game at that point.
As for the popped up bunt – that’s on Conrad.

Clemson Caniac - October 10, 2010
timmy

markscats - October 10, 2010
This loss is Bobby Cox's fault
and his alone. Don’t blame Brooks. It is on Bobby that he was out there in the 9th.
MartinMcFly - October 10, 2010
What about in the 2nd…?
justincredubil02 - October 10, 2010
Man on 3rd no one out
I don’t feel right blaming Brooks for a run that almost certainly would have scored anyway. PLUS, you can’t tell me that Brooks at 2nd is any more viable than Glaus at 3rd, he could have started and moved Omar to 2nd.
Not to mention Brooks error was just the go ahead run. I still say Kimbrel gets the save if he stays out there.
MartinMcFly - October 10, 2010
No. If Heyward makes that catch, which he could’ve, nobody’s running.
GoBravesNY - October 10, 2010
What that makes no sense! oh it's not his fault cuz the run would've scored anyway.
What BS. As we’ve seen there are no guarantees. It was his fault.
FitzFan - October 10, 2010
That is true, but like I said
I blame Bobby for starting him anyway. I still say it is on Bobby.
Seriously, put Diory out there, start him, in the 9th whatever.
Bottom line is Bobby is responsible for putting together the lineup, f-ed up.
MartinMcFly - October 10, 2010
Conrad is
OUR Bill Buckner
Kevin McCarthy - October 10, 2010
No
It’s is bobby’s fault that he toook out Kimbrel. We had the game won and he gave it way by not recognizing that lefty-lefty is a bad matchup against Huff
Spazio Elutherius - October 10, 2010
You can hate on Bobby
all you want. He has to deal with what he’s got. He doesn’t pitch, play defense, or hit….so it’s on the players…plain and simple.
Kevin McCarthy - October 10, 2010
agreed
But there is some level of responsibility in leaving a guy in at 2B who has NO BUSINESS AT ALL BEING THERE.
I’m not blaming it all on Bobby. Players have to make plays, but the opportunity for Conrad to make that error should have never even been there.
Sir Veza - October 10, 2010
I agree to. There is plenty of blame to go around, but putting %100 on Bobby is stupid.
FitzFan - October 10, 2010
I put a lot of it on Bobby because his mistake was the final one. Meaning, he had a chance to correct all previous mistakes. he didn’t. Therefore, he had the last chance to make it right, deserving of the majority of the glame.
Sir Veza - October 10, 2010
But he could have put Diory out there for the 9th
He could have left Kimbrel in to pitch against the guy that owns lefties instead of putting a lefty out there.
Diory can field 2nd. Period. When you’re up in the top of the 9th you put your best defensive players out there, especially when you’re not taking offense off the field to do so!
MartinMcFly - October 10, 2010
That too, that's why I said it is on Cox.
I disagreed with that call just as much. But people are jumping all over Brooks, when Bobby is the one at fault.

Kobe:The Legend - October 10, 2010
You cant win when one of your player had more errors than the starting lineup (excluding the pitcher)
Conrad = 3 errors
Starting Lineup (Without Pitcher) = 2 hits
joshant - October 10, 2010
Yes you can
B/c he’s never in the position to get the 3rd error if Bobby leaves in Kimbrel v. Huff which was a BETTER MATCHUP against huff. Huff hits lefties better than righties.
Spazio Elutherius - October 10, 2010
HOW DO YOU KNOW THIS?
HOW DO YOU KNOW THAT KIMBREL WON’T HAVE A BALL HIT TO SECOND BASE?
JESUS TAPDANCING CHRIST!
BullManUGA - October 10, 2010
If you're making matchup decisions
LOOK AT THE FREAKING MATCHUP. Huff hits lefties much better than righties you idiot.
Spazio Elutherius - October 10, 2010
Kimbrel
Could have ended up walking Huff….then who knows after that….Let it go, man!!
Kevin McCarthy - October 10, 2010
WOW! Did you practice to be a moron or were you born this way?
I’ll ask again since you seem to be unable to read. How do you know Kimbrel does not induce a ground ball to second base? I don’t care what the bloody matchup is. Farsnworth induced what 99 times out of 100 is an OUT.
BullManUGA - October 10, 2010
Yea
He was throwing heat but control is sketchy at best sometimes…..It’s over you can second guess all damn night…but you know what??? We f’in lost. We come back out tomorrow and try again. I will go with Bobby on this any day. Remember how long he’s done this? And how long have YOU managed an MLB team???
Kevin McCarthy - October 10, 2010
MY POINT
Is that if you’re PLAYING MATCHUPS, you LOOK AT THE ACTUAL MATCHUP.
Spazio Elutherius - October 10, 2010
You are the one looking the idiot! Stop acting like kimbrel would've ended the game no problem.
He started the mess to begin with.
FitzFan - October 10, 2010
THIS
Kevin McCarthy - October 10, 2010
All you Cox apologists are just clueless.
A manager worth his weight in salt recognizes that Conrad has been awful defensively at 2nd base and puts in a natural 2nd baseman (DIORY) at the position in the top of the 9th.
That same manager also doesn’t take out Kimbrel. Let’s not even discuss pinch running a catcher for a catcher (which didn’t matter, ultimately).

joshant - October 10, 2010
on a positive note...
umm…..
Hektor DiPaula - October 10, 2010
There’s a game tomorrow, which is very winnable
GoBravesNY - October 10, 2010
very?
Creek Johnson - October 10, 2010
Yes, why not? Lowe’s on the mound. If the offense could show up we can win
GoBravesNY - October 10, 2010
Conrad will be drinking a pina colada the rest of his life in the Bahamas.
Kobe:The Legend - October 10, 2010
I would put that guy on suicide watch
Creek Johnson - October 10, 2010
that also
Kobe:The Legend - October 10, 2010
I really wanted to forgive Conrad (if we got the win)
but this Guy calls off D Lee then his next opportunity he cost us the game..Again
Andeezy - October 10, 2010
We're also forgetting that Conrad popped a bunt up
a mortal sin in baseball
TheBraveDude - October 10, 2010
I almost forgot that
Can we trade him now for a ham and cheese sandwich
Andeezy - October 10, 2010
haha romo gets the win
Creek Johnson - October 10, 2010
Emmel has cost us 1 and a half game
the other half was Conrad
joshant - October 10, 2010
Damn I wasted 5minutes worth of fist pumping
after Hinske’s homerun.
Andeezy - October 10, 2010
Conrad has wasted 30 years living.
Creek Johnson - October 10, 2010
okay that was harsh.
but i hate him.
Creek Johnson - October 10, 2010
It's not tomorrow that worries me
odds are that we’ll win that one. It’s game 5 against Lincecum. We be screwed.
TheBraveDude - October 10, 2010
Lincecum's not going tomorrow on short rest?
I guess that’s kind of good news, although not really, for the reason you point out.
SS451 - October 10, 2010
No probably not
I’d honestly rather have lincecum tomorrow
TheBraveDude - October 10, 2010
There's no reason
that we can’t beat Lincecum. He was awfully wild the other day. If we can calm down we could probably beat anyone.
GoBravesNY - October 10, 2010
We need to finally learn that we can’t swing at everything he throws in the dirt.
BullManUGA - October 10, 2010
I know. I just hope we can over the next 24 hours
GoBravesNY - October 10, 2010
Bobby needs to send Conrad to Kawakamiville.
BullManUGA - October 10, 2010
1 way ticket
Sir Veza - October 10, 2010
I bet KK laughed his ass off after this game.
Now there’s someone more hated than him.
Creek Johnson - October 10, 2010
We can't hit wild
14Ks will testify to that. He’ll be amped up as hell too. Throwing some serious gas.
TheBraveDude - October 10, 2010
It's never good when your Errors outnumber your Runs
I don’t want to read 1 post game comment about “tipping their cap” to anyone. We gave them that game.
NCChopper - October 10, 2010
I tip my cap to Huddy and to Hinske
that’s it.
GoBravesNY - October 10, 2010
This, too.
Huddy was absolutely amazing. And Hinske was clutch.
Chopaholic - October 10, 2010
True, I was meaning our team tipping their cap to the other team’s pitcher etc.
Between our swinging at balls in the dirt and our errors, they didn’t have to do much to get that one.
NCChopper - October 10, 2010
I know, I know. I realized that the second after I posted it. I’m just too pissed to think straight
GoBravesNY - October 10, 2010
This.
So damn much this.
Chopaholic - October 10, 2010
Bobby...
Mismanaged this game, I don’t see how anyone can even dispute that.
Prelude rL - October 10, 2010
But he didn't LOSE the game
and I don’t see how that’s up for dispute either.
Creek Johnson - October 10, 2010
maybe not...
But he didn’t help much either. Diory Hernandez is useless with the bat so he has to be on the roster for later innings defense… How do you not put him in the game? If he’s not there for that situation then I can’t imagine why he’s there at all.
Prelude rL - October 10, 2010
Hernandez
Can’t be as useless with the bat as Conrad. AND, the error doesn’t happen if Kimbrel stays in against huff,
Spazio Elutherius - October 10, 2010
Yes it does if a groundball is hit to Brooks.
FitzFan - October 10, 2010
Hernandez
Is actually WORSE with the bat than Conrad. But it doesn’t matter: Conrad is bad enough that you lose very little on the offensive side, and Conrad is SO awful with the glove that it’s basically a high baseball crime to have him play infield.
SS451 - October 10, 2010
Funny
How he was a genius when Hinske hit the homer…..now he’s the goat….I am not totally defending him. But if we had been more patient or had a competent umpire behind the plate and actually hit the ball…we wouldn’t be having all this hating on Conrad or Bobby.
Kevin McCarthy - October 10, 2010
This
Jason has been VERY rough in this series but every called 3rd has been completely awful. Not even close.
Creek Johnson - October 10, 2010
Giants strategy tomorrow and game 5 - hit the ball to Conrad!
rubbles88 - October 10, 2010
If Bobby values his nuts, he won’t put Conrad in anymore.
BullManUGA - October 10, 2010
they dont need that, they have Emmel
joshant - October 10, 2010
Giants strategy
tomorrow and game 5games 1-3 so far – hit the ball to Conrad!NCChopper - October 10, 2010
i mean if there is a game 5
rubbles88 - October 10, 2010
I think after 3 games and just under 10 errors
Its clear that Conrad should be in the American League as a last option designated hitter
Andeezy - October 10, 2010
Conrad was our hero when he was just pinch hitting. He is not suited as a regular infielder.
rubbles88 - October 10, 2010
Diory Hernandez anyone?
wtholt27 - October 10, 2010
this ump called Emmel is really sucking
1st game – 2nd Base Ump: called safe an out that later would score the only run of the game.
2nd game – 1st Base Ump: called out Alex Gonzalez Groundball when Huff wasn´t stepping the 1st base. He tossed Cox.
3rd game – HP Ump: called strike, 5 or 6 inches outside pitches.
4rd game – 3rd Base Ump?
joshant - October 10, 2010
HP Ump: called
strikestrikes, 5 or 6 inches outside pitches.FTFY
Chopaholic - October 10, 2010
Say what you want about mismanaging
Brooks Conrad is a professional baseball player. He gets paid a lot of money to make routine plays like that. No excuse
TheBraveDude - October 10, 2010
Exactly.
BullManUGA - October 10, 2010
Kenshin Kawakami is a professional baseball player
Who is paid a lot of money to pitch. And yet, that is not a justification managers can use to actually ask him to pitch if they have better options available.
SS451 - October 10, 2010
You have to think your fielders can make that play.
Creek Johnson - October 10, 2010
But Bobby doesn't know what play is going to need to be made.
All that he knows is that Conrad is far less capable than Diory Hernandez of making any of them. And therefore, the right call is Conrad out (of all the games), Diory in.
SS451 - October 10, 2010
No justification, just fact.
FitzFan - October 10, 2010
I've had enough for tonight...
…gonna try and think of something else the rest of the evening.
Nite all.
NCChopper - October 10, 2010
If it worked last time...
I leave you guys with two quotes:
“That which is sowed in tears will be reaped in joy”
-Psalm 126
“You get another hand soon after you fold”
-B.o.B
I still think we can win the next two games. Try and not kill anythng tonight. See everyone later.
GoBravesNY - October 10, 2010
I will kill Conrad
Kobe:The Legend - October 10, 2010
Get in line
GoBravesNY - October 10, 2010
I already punched a hole in my wall during a Falcons game a few weeks back.
I am holding my breath and counting to 1000 to try and make it through the night.
Creek Johnson - October 10, 2010
The whole team played like crap today
If we could have put together ANY offense, at any point in the game besides the 8th, we most likely win.
SIGH
MartinMcFly - October 10, 2010
Rec'd
I like the attitude.
MartinMcFly - October 10, 2010
huh
BullManUGA - October 10, 2010
Can we let
Chino manage tomorrow?
and not let Conrad into the park?
I give up, Im done watching baseball this year
knarf - October 10, 2010
Chino
did seem to let our pitchers pitch on Friday and he did remove Brooks from the game for defensive purposes… Hell, he’s got my vote
ByrneSupremacy - October 10, 2010
Yeah when you look at those moves, Chino had to be calling the shots.
No way Bobby replaces Brooks that game, but leaves him in after 2 erras.
FitzFan - October 10, 2010
Alright.
Looking forward to winning the next two games. Night y’all.
Chopaholic - October 10, 2010
who to blame?
1. Conrad = 3 errors. cost 2 unearned run a lot of unnecesary pitches to the pitchers.
2. Bobby = bring Dunn ot face Huff
3. Emmel = Crazy Strikezone
4. Starting Lineup offense = 3 hits (1 from Hudson) 1 BB (Lee in the 1st inning), a ton of K, 0 Run.
joshant - October 10, 2010
Baseball Gods?
Creek Johnson - October 10, 2010
Add to Bobby's ledger
That he was the one who decided to start Brooks at 2B over Diory Hernandez or Omar Infante (with Diory playing 3B).
SS451 - October 10, 2010
Bullshit Bobby cost us this game. Pure and simple
Col.Angus - October 10, 2010
With the help of stone hands Brooks.
FitzFan - October 10, 2010
If we had Wagner...
damn. Injuries are killing us. We need Chip and Prado back.
Creek Johnson - October 10, 2010
Bobby Cox big Donkey balls
Col.Angus - October 10, 2010
post game quotes from DOB Twitter
Conrad: “I feel terrible. I wish I could dig a hole and sleep in it.”
Hudson: “We love Conrad more now than ever.”
ByrneSupremacy - October 10, 2010
Wouldn't you love him more after he did something good?
That goes against the principles of behavioral conditioning.
Creek Johnson - October 10, 2010
Maybe they love losing winnable games?
Sir Veza - October 10, 2010
They do love Conrad
Now they can go play golf on Tuesday because of him
THey’re still millionaires win or lose.
Fuck them
Col.Angus - October 10, 2010
looks like
the team already has Conrad on suicide watch
knarf - October 10, 2010
f Brooks
those weren’t plays that an above avg fielder makes. those are plays that any competent-below avg player makes. it was embarrassing watching him and embarrassing that #6 did not remove him from the game.
NorCalAtlFan - October 10, 2010
I betcha Hinkse doesn't
Col.Angus - October 10, 2010
I think Hinske's next fist pumps
are going to Conrad’s skull.
Creek Johnson - October 10, 2010
The one good thing?
is we are one loss closer to the F Gonzalez era!! One would hope that he won’t get outmanaged in every big game like #6. Also maybe TP may go too!:)
NorCalAtlFan - October 10, 2010
If you think Gonzalez is the answer you are lost.
We will probably hire him but we will be sorely disappointed.
Creek Johnson - October 10, 2010
Fredi Gonzalez IS Bobby.
Completely conventional, by the book, no-value-added manager. And he doesn’t have Bobby’s legendary rep or rapport with the players to make up for it. Christ, I hope he isn’t our next manager.
SS451 - October 10, 2010
I know
but we all know he is going to be the next manager and quite frankly, I got tired of #6 in 1998. so ANYONE at this point is an upgrade to me.
NorCalAtlFan - October 10, 2010
Chino as Bobby’s replacement FTW
ByrneSupremacy - October 10, 2010
then some ump should toss Bobby early in the game
joshant - October 10, 2010
Where will be umpiring Emmel tomorrow?
if he will start on 3rd base, i would try to hit him throwing the bat from HP
and when i run throught 3rd base i would make a “Gaby Sanchez”
joshant - October 10, 2010
what about this lineup tomorrow?
Infante 2B
Heyward RF
DLee 1B
BMac C
Glaus 3B
Hinske LF
Gonzalez SS
McLouth CF
Lowe P
joshant - October 10, 2010
Diaz instead of Hinske in LF because Bumgarner’s a lefty… but other than that I think its spot-on
ByrneSupremacy - October 10, 2010
the real question is...
what lineup will they really go with?
Creek Johnson - October 10, 2010
hmm
because it’s #6’s last game:
Infante
Heyward
D Lee
Diaz
Gonzalez
Conrad
Ross
Cabrera
Lowe
why would he suddenly do anything different?
NorCalAtlFan - October 10, 2010
Glad to see Melky's no longer in the 5-hole.
Creek Johnson - October 10, 2010
lol
brilliant
NorCalAtlFan - October 10, 2010
Prefer Hernandez over Glaus.
Just tired of defense beating us.
SS451 - October 10, 2010
I would agree except we badly need offense too
ByrneSupremacy - October 10, 2010
Basically a matter of taste.
I feel like it will hurt more to watch them bumble their way around the field and play like Little Leaguers than it will to watch their slow strangulation at the plate.
SS451 - October 10, 2010
I don't see why you don't leave Kimbrel in
Is he the closer or not? Everything indicated that he was filling in for Wags. These others guys aren’t used to closing. You don’t pull Wags for a matchup and he shouldn’t have done that to Kimbrel either.
Creek Johnson - October 10, 2010
it's bobby
just be surprised he wasn’t changing pitchers mid ab.
NorCalAtlFan - October 10, 2010
Wow
Blew that one.
I’ll be there tomorrow still. Go Braves.
