This was certainly not the type of performance we were expecting nor hoping for from this team tonight. Brandon Beachy pitched his heart out but a rough sixth inning from both Beachy and Peter Moylan, combined with an error from Brooks Conrad lead to a close game becoming a blowout.
Beachy pitched well, lasting 5.2 innings and striking out five while walking just one. He allowed seven hits, but if he shows that control he will be useful in the post-season and as a starter next year. Christhian Martinez gave up four runs in relief, which put the Braves even further back. Mike Minor appeared in relief in the game's final two innings, pitching 1.1 innings and striking out two batters.
Jimmy Rollins' grand slam was by far the biggest play of the game. The score was 3-2 when he hit the home run off the first pitch he saw from Mike Dunn.
Overall, this was just an unfortunate loss. Derrek Lee came through with three RBI hits, giving him four in total. Other than Lee, Conrad was the only other player to record two hits.
Tomorrow, Tommy Hanson will take on Vance Worley as the Phillies adjusted their rotation last second. Worley has pitched well this year, but Hanson is the better pitcher. Hopefully, the Braves come to play better tomorrow.

braves get destroyed
tell me how you really feel

Conrad
I really think we had the game without the Conrad play. It would have been huge momentum shift for Moylan coming in and getting the 3rd out on one pitch. 4-0 SD right now, this is a nightmare. Come on guys!
CooperstownChipper - October 1, 2010 via mobile
I'm glad
That I’m not the only one who saw it that way. It seemed like Joe was trying to pin it on Infante, which I couldn’t buy, at all.
Even after that play, Moylan can’t walk a man with the bases loaded, not on those last two pitches.
Sam Jethroe - October 1, 2010
TV
Kept showing Infante like it was his fault but it was totally Conrad. The ball was hit hard right to Conrad and it was a catcher running to first! It was a no brainer to go to first. I mean he could have even tried to get the runner at third who was barely running. I’m so frustrated right now.
CooperstownChipper - October 1, 2010 via mobile
Also...
Werth had no more business on second than I did. Wolf really choked on that call.
All the more infuriating because he rang Omar up with two men on later on a similar pitch.
Sam Jethroe - October 1, 2010
gotta disagree
Infante has no other job but to be on 2nd there if needed. You don’t assume. Any 2b knows it. Conrad was fairly far behind the bag, and if he can’t get there 2nd is an okay option. You get caught watching the action, you get burned.
David G - October 2, 2010
That said, Conrad is starting to remind me of a famous figure on TBS in the 80s.
Unfortunately, it’s not Bob Horner, but “The Hands of Stone” Ronnie Garvin.
I like his bat, but I’m really not liking his glove.
Broccoman - October 2, 2010
What happens in the event of a tie between Braves/Pads?
TennesseeQuackAttack8 - October 1, 2010
tiebreaker game on Monday in Atlanta
Braves wins the head-to-head against the Padres (same situation against the Giants if tied)
LEastCoastBears - October 1, 2010
Yeah, I wasn't sure if it would be in ATL or SD.
TennesseeQuackAttack8 - October 1, 2010
Good thing that the Padres lost yesterday and we had a 2 game lead before tonight
we have to WIN tomorrow
LEastCoastBears - October 1, 2010

Buffalo Braves - October 1, 2010
That's a headline title Philly fans will love.

rubbles88 - October 2, 2010
I'm so dissapointed right now
It was all on Brooksy to make the make the play and he didn’t. We have to be smarter. The phils are going to play us hard every time. We have to come hungry tomorrow because the season depends on it.
crsosa - October 1, 2010 via mobile
also Melky and Nate didn't help with their defensive blunders:(
HEYJUDE - October 1, 2010
They're each
Absolute liabilities out there.
Sam Jethroe - October 1, 2010
Bobby needs to start Matt Diaz in LF and Rick Ankiel in CF for the next two games.
fandave - October 2, 2010
In person, Melky is worse than on TV. He is an embarassment to the league. Mcclouth was bad too. I can’t figure out why our OF didn’t know how to play the wind blowing in from LF/CF at 20 mph? Unprofessional.
Braves12 - October 2, 2010 via mobile
10 of their 11 runs, I think came with 2 outs.
NCChopper - October 1, 2010
Well
6-0 Padres. Looks like we are going to have to wait til tomorrow. We need a win

So much for some saying the Phoolies wouldn't go all out against us.
For being thrown into the fire BB has been solid.
FitzFan - October 1, 2010
He's pitched well enough to win both games he pitched against the Phillies, imo
HEYJUDE - October 1, 2010
Manuel not that way. He said he would put a lineup out there all 3 games “good enough to beat the Braves”.
He meant it.
We gotta earn these wins, which means DEFENSE has to keep their mind in the game and not give them extra outs.
Beachy has been a pleasant surprise and pitched great.
NCChopper - October 1, 2010
I agree
and I knew Cholly was not going to go easy on us, as you said, that’s not his way of doing business.
HEYJUDE - October 1, 2010
I didn’t think so either, but some were convinced. It will be interesting to see how far his important starters go in the game.
FitzFan - October 2, 2010
SD 6 SF 0 in the 5th on MLBN finally
HEYJUDE - October 1, 2010
Just found it there.
NCChopper - October 1, 2010
Why can't we just have something go easily for the Braves :(
I still believe we will make it,
BravesDawg16 - October 1, 2010
I do too
It may come down to Sunday, but I think we will get it done!
HEYJUDE - October 1, 2010
I really really don't want it to come down to Sunday
that would mean Huddy has to pitch and I don’t want him to have to. Plus I will be at the game and i don’t have a good record when I go this season
BravesDawg16 - October 1, 2010
Don't feel bad
I’ve had a horrible record when going to the games this season. The worst being the no-hitter :(
HEYJUDE - October 1, 2010
Yikes
I was also at the game last year where Matt Diaz got picked off at third to end the game that essentially ended our playoff hopes. I was crushed
BravesDawg16 - October 1, 2010
Ouch
That was a tough loss:(
HEYJUDE - October 2, 2010
Yea I was so mad and upset
my girlfriend was with me and almost dumped me after the game haha. She didn’t understand how I was so upset. She just didn’t understand!
BravesDawg16 - October 2, 2010
I understand!
HEYJUDE - October 2, 2010
If she doesn't understand your passion
Shouldn’t you be the one dumping her?
E-Lizz - October 2, 2010 via mobile
It doesn't get any better..
Been married for 36 years – she still doesn’t understand why this is killing me. She prays for Brave wins just for the tranquility.
Rod44 - October 2, 2010
haha – my wife of several decades plus more or less trys to ignore my Braves’ obcession.

TheLetter2 - October 1, 2010
Wake your Giants up!!
We need them to help us out!
HEYJUDE - October 1, 2010
I don't know how many times this year
I’ve said, “I HATE baseball!” But of course, it’s never long before I’m professing my love for the game again. It is definitely taxing on one’s nerves.
Cayla - October 2, 2010
I’m really impressed by Beachy, does anybody have a clue what we can do with him next year? I keep reading that Teheran might be ready by June or July. Hudson, Hanson, Lowe, Jurrjens, Minor, Beachy and Teheran…With more on their heels.
bighop - October 1, 2010
Hopefully
We won’t trade him for a clueless, immobile strikeout machine.
Sam Jethroe - October 1, 2010
Too much good young pitching is such a terrible problem! Trouble, trouble, woe, woe on us!
fandave - October 2, 2010
IDK
but it’s a good problem to have. I hate to give any of them up, but we’ve gotta have some help in the outfield, which may leave us trading one of them.
HEYJUDE - October 1, 2010
I guess
Cannot agree more that it’s a good problem. If we trade one or two, I hope we get the goods in return, it’s been a minute since we made a great trade.
bighop - October 1, 2010
Yeah, a minute or two, indeed.
HEYJUDE - October 1, 2010

HEYJUDE - October 1, 2010

HEYJUDE - October 2, 2010
Gonna be tough to come back with the Pads BP
I sure hope they do. It would put me into a much better mood before I go to bed
BravesDawg16 - October 2, 2010
Yeah
me too….
HEYJUDE - October 2, 2010
generally, the braves/baseball in general drive me to drink
I was at the bar and after the conrad error/moylan walk/rollins grand slam, I was so depressed… I just sat there and watched the rest of the game like I was taking some sort of painful medication, and when it was over, got up and went home. I had no desire to stay out at all. That game sapped all the life and fun out of me
leedawg - October 2, 2010
I know that feeling well :(
HEYJUDE - October 2, 2010
I can't tolerate another weekend like the last one
Braves losing 2-3 to the nats, GA losing…. thank god the falcons salvaged something for me on Sunday. Can tomorrow be called the “day of win” where every team I need or want to win pulls one out? Georgia, the Braves, and San Fran all need to win for me tomorrow
leedawg - October 2, 2010
This would be nice
Throw in a Falcons win on Sunday and everything will be just swell
BravesDawg16 - October 2, 2010
agreed
forgot to add that one in there, but I think they’ll be OK against the 49ers regardless if I add them to my “please, dear god, Win” list or not
leedawg - October 2, 2010
I think they will win
but something about the game is just unsettling. Birds coming off of an emotional win and the Niners playing way below their talent level. Just need to focus I guess
BravesDawg16 - October 2, 2010
We root for the same teams
so I understand about last week-end. The Dawgs game was embarrassing.
HEYJUDE - October 2, 2010
We won't mention them around here anymore
Every time I think of the Dawgs, I just shake my head (which is a lot since I’m still an undergrad here in Athens)
BravesDawg16 - October 2, 2010
I won't if you won't!
SF just scored 2
HEYJUDE - October 2, 2010
SF rally would do wonders for me right now
leedawg - October 2, 2010
Likewise
BravesDawg16 - October 2, 2010
I worked for the football team for 5 years
I still know most of the coaches/seniors… It’s embarrassing for sure. If we lose tomorrow, I don’t know what I’m going to do, but it will be destructive
leedawg - October 2, 2010
Do you agree that BoBo needs to go bye bye?
HEYJUDE - October 2, 2010
I don't want to touch that, because I actually really know and like him as a person
and he’s one of my professional references, so for my sake, I hope not
leedawg - October 2, 2010
Yes
When people in the stands know what the play call is, that is pretty bad. Plus, he is just saying vanilla and predictable with his play calling and just won’t call a game to the strength of his team (i.e. this year he needs more short passes with Murray to open up the running game. Play action ain’t fooling anyone right now)
BravesDawg16 - October 2, 2010
you can ask the people I watched the game with last week
but I was calling over 75% of our offensive plays based on the formations/motions we lined up in… granted, I know our offense REALLY well, but still…
leedawg - October 2, 2010
I like Mark Richt
I hope escapes the season, without getting fired.
HEYJUDE - October 2, 2010
He will
He still has enough political capital to have a chance to redeem himself next year i would think. We will see. UGA is still a pretty young team that needs time to mature. See 2002 Dawgs
BravesDawg16 - October 2, 2010
he'll get a pretty nice buyout if they decide to get rid of him
I think he gets another year despite everything that’s happened so far… but we’ve got to play better. If we play like crap tomorrow, I don’t know what they can do to turn the ship around
leedawg - October 2, 2010
I like Murray
he’s gonna be a good one, with some experience under his belt, imo
HEYJUDE - October 2, 2010
I think they ought to let him sling it around a bit
he hasn’t played bad at all, and we clearly can’t run the ball. put the game on the kid’s arm and let’s see what he’s made of. He just might surprise us and light up the scoreboard
leedawg - October 2, 2010
Whats the worst that could happen?
We lose more? I’m kinda numb to it now haha
BravesDawg16 - October 2, 2010
seriously......
leedawg - October 2, 2010
I think we all on TC empathize with you
I hate that I get affected so much, but I just can’t help it. Its a tough life to lead, thats for sure
BravesDawg16 - October 2, 2010
I cannot believe I am rooting for the Giants. I can't stand them & all the bandwagon jumpers around here the last few weeks.
FitzFan - October 2, 2010
I was taking Daisy out – missed it.
NCChopper - October 2, 2010
Just one but better than none
off to a good start to this inning
HEYJUDE - October 2, 2010
Question
Conrad has had some big hits so I can’t fault him for his hitting.
How many errors would Glaus make had he started at third instead of Conrad? Thats three errors for Conrad already since he took over third on Monday.
JimH - October 2, 2010
Glaus' lack of range has to be factored into your equation somehow
leedawg - October 2, 2010
I said this to a Braves fan friend just minutes ago
When we were texting about the game.
HEYJUDE - October 2, 2010
Someone promise me - the Giants are perfectly capable of making up 5 runs these last 3 innings
NCChopper - October 2, 2010
Just scored 2
HEYJUDE - October 2, 2010
Saw that! Woohoo!
NCChopper - October 2, 2010
I didn't know you had MLBN?
It’s much better than ESPN , as far as commentators go, imo
HEYJUDE - October 2, 2010
I think I do – it’s says MLB logo in the corner. I don’t pay extra for it.
NCChopper - October 2, 2010
Sweet
I have to pay extra for it, but it’s worth it, for nights like tonight.
HEYJUDE - October 2, 2010
I know there is a package too, but I don’t subscribe to it because they black out all the Braves games for me.
NCChopper - October 2, 2010
They block out the Braves games for me too
I added it last season mainly to keep up with our competition.
HEYJUDE - October 2, 2010
Tonight's Braves game - we had 10 hits to their 13
So, it wasn’t like we just rolled over and didn’t have any offense.
NCChopper - October 2, 2010
Yeah,
I noticed that. The errors are what killed us, imo
HEYJUDE - October 2, 2010
They have realy been piling up the past few weeks!

Is it bad I fell asleep after scotch and chinese food
to wake up to a 9 run deficit??

No
you should have just slept through the night!
HEYJUDE - October 2, 2010
I know! False hopes of a comeback made things entirely worse!!
New World Brave - October 2, 2010
The Giants are getting into the game
2 more on and 2 out..
HEYJUDE - October 2, 2010
D Lee got me excited, but now the Gigantes are getting me real excited!

Since it's now October...
Remember to support BC Awareness month.

NCChopper - October 2, 2010
I do
and will continue to do so.
HEYJUDE - October 2, 2010
:-) We either got ’em, want ’em or like ’em.
I love how they call it 2nd base in a lot of the campaigns now.
NCChopper - October 2, 2010
I have no envy, but I like 'em . . . a lot!
New World Brave - October 2, 2010
I thought they called it 2nd base for an entirely different reason at first, and then I thought no way! :)
HEYJUDE - October 2, 2010
There are some really cute tshirts out there – if you Google it. Some even have 2 baseballs on the front in key location ;-)
NCChopper - October 2, 2010
Oi, a walk after that great throw to get the baserunner.
NCChopper - October 2, 2010
Now hit batter – gonna take a vidrow now.
NCChopper - October 2, 2010
vidro (I knew that looked odd)
NCChopper - October 2, 2010
It's late :)
HEYJUDE - October 2, 2010
what if we would trade for Bautista in the Trade Deadline?
Kobe:The Legend - October 2, 2010
Bautista would have stopped hitting HRs.
Broccoman - October 2, 2010
Whew – now we need Giants to come back here.
NCChopper - October 2, 2010
Whew
I thought that ball was going through. To the bottom of the 9th we go. The Braves will lend the Giants one of their patented last at-bat win. LETS GO GIANTS !
BravesDawg16 - October 2, 2010
Let’s Go Giants (this series only) – Let’s Go Giants (this series only) – Let’s Go Giants (this series only) – Let’s Go Giants (this series only)
NCChopper - October 2, 2010

HEYJUDE - October 2, 2010

BravesDawg16 - October 2, 2010

NCChopper - October 2, 2010

NCChopper - October 2, 2010
And the Padres Win
Tomorrow is as a must win game as this team has ever had
Bob Mackie - October 2, 2010
Well, nite everyone - tomorrow afternoon we gotta DO BUSINESS
and hope the Giants do the same.
NCChopper - October 2, 2010
Good nite!
I’ve got a baby shower to attend at 10am, better hit the sack.
HEYJUDE - October 2, 2010
We are gonna need our rest for tomorrow
We have 2 simultaneous games to worry about!
BravesDawg16 - October 2, 2010
I didn’t read all the comments but I’m a little disappointed that JC Boscans first big league at bat was tonight, and he scored all the way from first. He’ll prolly never get another at bat. Maybe it’s just me but that trip around the bases would make all those years in the minors worth it for me. I think I just made myself cry a little.
Chipfan04 - October 2, 2010 via mobile
I think it was awesome...
I’m confused about why you’re a little disappointed?
SuperNewb - October 2, 2010
Me too, I was cheering him all the way. Patient at bat to draw the walk, then the great baserunning to score from first.
NCChopper - October 2, 2010
What I meant was I was a little disappointed it wasn’t talked about in the recap or what not.
Chipfan04 - October 2, 2010 via mobile
Hey guys
being there tonight…..wow that sucked…but Cheetahs was fucking amazing
1) I hate MVP with every fiber of my being
2) itd be cool if JHey got a hit once in awhile
3) I can’t believe DLee was that good tonight
4) McLouth is god awful in center
5) Conrad is costing us runs every fucking game at third base……he is fucking terrible
bpk228480 - October 2, 2010

Scott Coleman - October 2, 2010
