This is what a combination of awesome pitching and capable offense is supposed to result in -- many wins against teams that you should beat. We're about to go face the Nationals for three games -- the worst team in baseball. If we can sweep them like we've swept the Mets for the last two series, then there really is some hope for the post-season. Even the pessimist in us should think that there could be a glimmer of hope.
Tim Hudson was Derek Lowesque tonight, but that, apparently, is good enough for wins this season.

Started working nights
then they go on a roll like this…damn guys…my bad for the season
bpk228480 - September 23, 2009
LETS FUCKING DO THIS
SuperNewb - September 24, 2009
colorodo lost!!! 4 games behind and 10 games to go.
ccoolguy2003 - September 24, 2009
10-0 and 6-4 will force a playoff!
SuperNewb - September 24, 2009
10-0, 6-3!
MichaelProcton - September 25, 2009
I’m an eternal optimist, and even I can’t buy that as hope
ATLandUNC - September 24, 2009
why not? just ask the team in front of us!
SuperNewb - September 24, 2009
The Rockies still have to play a few more good teams. The Nats are going to be out for our blood, and then there’s the Fish. too…
But if we can somehow keep this 8-2 thing going, we could easily take the slot.
Chief Noc-A-Homa - September 24, 2009
The team in front of us didn’t get swept by the Reds in the final month of their magical run.
Weldon - September 24, 2009
Hmmm...
The team in front of us has lost 4 out of 8 to the DBacks and Padres this month…who are the 3rd and 4th worst teams in the NL. We should’ve beaten the Reds twice, but they were hot when we played them.
Its not like the Braves are the only team who lose to a lesser team every once in a while…
Scott Coleman - September 24, 2009
Reds cooled off really quickly when they played the Rockies immediately following the sweep of us. They lost 4 straight.
Let’s face it, there’s no excuse for what happened that weekend, and in all likelihood, it killed our season (combined with a Soriano meltdown in Houston, and a Vazquez/Medlen/Gonzalez meltdown in Florida). We lost 3 straight games to an inferior team, and that’s inexcusable.
Bronson Arroyo, Kip Wells, and Johnny Cueto-that’s not the type of rotation that pulls off a weekend sweep, so we can’t make excuses about losing those. We can just hope that there’s some miracle in waiting that keeps this team alive.
Bronn - September 24, 2009
I was referring to the Rockies’ 2007 playoff run, not the 2009 version.
I am probably being a little hard on our Braves. They’ve put together a nice run in the past few weeks, but it would have been a lot easier to hold out hope had they not tanked against one of the worst teams in the NL.
Weldon - September 24, 2009
Jeff Francoeur killed our season.
timmy3 - September 24, 2009
with the other two auto outs in our everyday line-up, in Jordan and KJ. Management left them in way too long.IMHP
I still will not give up on my Braves, until it is just mathematically impossible for us to make it to the play-offs :)
I still believe!!
Go Braves!!!!
HEYJUDE - September 24, 2009
Well then......
Your not a true eternal optimist!
Jay212033 - September 24, 2009 via mobile
based on the defintion of eternal…no he’s not an eternal optismitc… he’s a selective optimist..
you are correct sir
Swo12bv - September 24, 2009
Rockies remaining games:
1 vs SD
3 vs STL
3 vs MIL
3 @ LAD
Only the Pujols can save us now.
Bronn - September 24, 2009
That's a hard schedule.
The Padres have shown they can beat the Rockies. The Cardinals are trying to clinch the central and are still fighting for home field advantage. The Brewers arent a bad team and can score with anyone. And the Dodgers are still fighting for their playoff lives.
I BELIEVE.
Scott Coleman - September 24, 2009 via mobile
ESPECIALLY
when we have 7 against the nats… we can and SHOULD win all of those games… especially the way we’re playing right now
it’s the three against the fish we need to lock down
SuperNewb - September 24, 2009
We can't think like that tho
The Braves always take the Nats lightly and before you know it we’ve lost 2 outta 3.
The Washington Nationals are the 1927 Yankees from here on out. We can’t take anything for granted.
Scott Coleman - September 24, 2009 via mobile
cards gonna lay down
i also got optimistic when i saw three against the Nats for us, and three against STL for the Rox – but everyone has to realize that the Cards are going to take it easy after the cubs lose tonight.
They will have clinched, and the Rox are playing for their lives – its not going to be a sweep by the cards to put us a couple back (provided we sweep the natspos).
And if thats not enough, the cards would rather lose to the Rox, thus ensuring that’s who they’’ll play in the first round.
traphicg - September 24, 2009
Wouldn’t they want homefield advantage? They gotta keep playing for that.
justincredubil02 - September 24, 2009
exactly.
Scott Coleman - September 24, 2009 via mobile
well, there’s also the integrity of the game. I would hope LaRussa respects that.
10-4 - September 24, 2009
The Cards are a good well-managed team. They aren’t taking nights off.
timmy3 - September 24, 2009
THIS
Swo12bv - September 24, 2009
you all missed the boat
Ok – i agree, they wont throw the games.
But its hard to sweep a hard-playing, season-on-the-line team when you are too drunk from the playoff-clinch drinking binge….
traphicg - September 24, 2009
not when you want to drink the home-field advantage champagne.
justincredubil02 - September 24, 2009
Especially there.
MichaelProcton - September 25, 2009
Not sure about you guys
but I’m terrified of the series against the Nats. We could have our hearts broken yet again. Or… we could easily sweep and the Rockies could be swept by the Cardinals.
Let’s do this.
Scott Coleman - September 24, 2009 via mobile
2 series left against the Nats…
Chief Noc-A-Homa - September 24, 2009
Let’s Not play down to them, as we have most of the year :(
We Can do this….
I still believe…
Let’s Go!!
I can’t wait to chat in the open threads while We are in the playoffs, if not at the games! :)
HEYJUDE - September 24, 2009
Alright...
I think it really depends on how soon the Dodgers and Cards clinch…
If the Cards sweep the Rockies (Which is fairly possible) and we sweep the Nats… We would be within one…
We’re on pace right now… over the last 13, to win 8 of the next 10 games, and we’re now playing against worse teams (I mean we swept the Cards…)
8-2, and 4-6… assuming the cards and the dodgers both take 2 from the rockies… and maybe one from the brewcrew and one from san diego tomorrow…
i don’t know…
my point is we CAN do this, so I will keep hoping
SuperNewb - September 24, 2009
Playoffs or no playoffs
Every single one of you has to love the fact that throughout the last few weeks, has been practically nothing but winning Braves baseball.
royhobbs - September 24, 2009
ill be honest
i gave up on the Braves and their chances after being emberassed by the Reds. I feel bad. But im really, really glad the Bravos made me look bad.
Scott Coleman - September 24, 2009
Nah, they didn’t make you look bad. I’m happy to see them beating up on the New Orleans Zephyrs, but we have to acknowledge that these are still the same Braves who laid down against the Reds and allowed the playoff race to get out of hand.
I’m still watching the games and it’s always great fun to see us beat up on players in Met uniforms, but this team doesn’t deserve to go to the playoffs. You were right to give up on them.
Weldon - September 24, 2009
if we make the playoffs,
it means that we finished our season at something like 19-4, 20-3, 18-5, etc etc. You’re tellin’ me that if this team finds a way into the playoffs, we don’t deserve it? There’s absolutely no way they don’t deserve it. It would be one of the greatest comebacks in baseball history.
Scott Coleman - September 24, 2009
What a dumb post
Give up on your team because they got swept by a team riding a hot streak WOW! Well you should have given up on them when they got swept by the Marlins or the Giants. Man support the TEAM win, lose or draw!
Jay212033 - September 24, 2009 via mobile
Uhhh I do
I sat here for 98% of the games this year, man. Don’t tell me you’ve never missed a game because you were mad at them.
Scott Coleman - September 24, 2009 via mobile
Jay was talking about me, I’m fairly sure.
Weldon - September 24, 2009
Oh okay lol.
I was a little confused at first but it’s cleared up now.
Scott Coleman - September 24, 2009 via mobile
mvhsbball
I was replying 2 Weldon. Also I get very frustrated with this team because I know they can do better but that doesn’t mean I’m not going 2 watch them or go 2 any games. I do love fans like Weldon though that give up on the team and give away their season tickets behind the dougout or in the ted turner section lol!
Jay212033 - September 24, 2009 via mobile
He didn't say he was going to stop watching OR attending.
He simply said that they didn’t deserve the playoffs because of the tankjob they did in the Cincy/SD series. Right or wrong, he’s entitled to that opinion.
MichaelProcton - September 25, 2009
Zowee!
That’s a fair point, mvhsbball. I guess I was trying to say that this team didn’t deserve our undivided attention after that terrible stretch that included the Reds series. But still…Kip Wells. Kip Wells. I’m unbelievably optimistic about 2010, but this team…a little bit less so. I’ll be paying attention, but I don’t think I’m a bad fan because the Reds series caused me to enter a sensory deprivation chamber for a couple weeks.
Weldon - September 24, 2009
My team deserves my undivided attention. Period.
sddbaker - September 24, 2009
wtf? since when do you dictate when I should or should’t watch my favorite baseball team? I don’t watch them because they win (obviously, I am still a fan after the past 3 seasons). I watch them because I want to.
gtfo with that crap!
justincredubil02 - September 24, 2009
….did I say anything about you? You can do whatever you want to, bud.
Weldon - September 25, 2009
Well, I assume by “our” that you are referring to Braves fans. Since I am a Braves fan, I belong in that group. When you say that the team doesn’t deserve my attention, I took that to mean that I should be watching this team anymore since they got swept by the Reds.
justincredubil02 - September 25, 2009
The team that wins the most games deserves to go to the playoffs. There is still a hope that the Braves can win enough games to go to the playoffs. If they did, they would deserve to go. You don’t get demerits for having a bad series against the Reds.
sddbaker - September 24, 2009
that would suck if we did tho… cause he lost a bunch of games to the Natspos this year
Swo12bv - September 24, 2009
you are never right to give up on ur team….ever
Swo12bv - September 24, 2009
When the Braves are eliminated from the postseason
Can I give up on them then?
Bronn - September 24, 2009
you can give up on their chances of making the post season, but if you say that they aren’t worth watching, that is another issue.
justincredubil02 - September 24, 2009
I get so tired of people acting so noble about watching sports. It’s not a duty. If it isn’t fun, you shouldn’t watch every day. And that isn’t anything to do with winning and losing but more to do with expectations. So when the Braves tanked against the Pads and Reds, yeah, my enthusiasm for the season was dampened.
But yeah, whatever, stay loyal to the team yadda yadda. If you were glued to the television set thinking the team would make the playoffs in early September, you’re not a good fan. You need to be institutionalized.
Weldon - September 25, 2009
I don’t get to watch them on TV.
justincredubil02 - September 25, 2009
Playoffs or not, it has been a refreshing change that we are still able to hold out some optimism for the postseason this late into September. It has been a while since we have been able to do that and I, for one, am enjoying it considerably.
Mountngrown - September 24, 2009
+1
WienerDog - September 24, 2009
This
And me on a 2-week vaca with no Internet access. Ugh.
Yakker - September 24, 2009
then clearly u need to leave…bc i think thats the secret u have no internet access=braves win games… gotta keep everyhtign the same… i havent changed clothes in 13 days
Swo12bv - September 24, 2009
that’s abnormal?
justincredubil02 - September 24, 2009
haha
VivaLosBravos - September 24, 2009
Considered it
But since they completed the sweep after I came back, I figured I was in the clear to start posting/watching again…
Yakker - September 24, 2009
Lets Go BRAVES!!!!
We will do it, I know it may sound stupid for most of the people, but believe me I know there is something special going on with this team, I just know it!!!!!!!!!!
We will be playing in october, I predict a 9-1 record for the braves and a 5-5 record for Colorado………….
Check out this, is awesome!!!! Two brothers from Panama watched one game in each of the 30 stadiums of MLB in just 30 days….by car……….CRAZY……Look at Tommy Hanson in the video hahaha!!! Funny
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=T9pfzPPKIGM
Braves4life - September 24, 2009
ur right… but only because every team gets to play in Oct
Swo12bv - September 24, 2009
I can't help myself. Until it's written as fact we're out - I'm gonna hope.
On to the Natinals!!! (I smile every time I type that)
NCChopper - September 24, 2009
LOL nice
Yakker - September 24, 2009
Yessss
Great image. And i haven’t completely given up on this season yet either. I am not worried about our ability to win, but rather the Rockies ability to lose. They are just about as hot as we are and they have been in this position before.
nick9314 - September 24, 2009 via mobile
I still have an inkling that we will win the division…3 left against the Phillies and we trail by 6? I feel a 2007 Mets-like collapse coming on…especially with the way Lidge and Madsen have been pitching lately!
It would more than thrill me, since ESPN has basically written in the Rox and Phillies for the playoffs…did anyone happen to catch that broadcast last night?
justincredubil02 - September 24, 2009
sorry dude...
No more games against the Phils….
sddbaker - September 24, 2009
crap…I was thinking we had 3 against them still….
justincredubil02 - September 24, 2009
OMG we can actually do this..I can taste it!! GO BRAVES!!!
WeStillHaveBobby - September 24, 2009
Garret's Long Single in 3rd
I was at the game haven’t seen any video/highlights…Was it a homer or what? It looked like an obviuos homer live. What did the TV folks say?
lebetkowitz - September 24, 2009
missed it by inches. hit the very top of the wall.
Chief Noc-A-Homa - September 24, 2009
How odd would it be to finish second in 2 races?
10-4 - September 24, 2009
if we kept that pace up, we would win the Nascar Nextel Cup!
justincredubil02 - September 24, 2009
Sprint Cup. You’re dating yourself. At least you didn’t call it Winston Cup.
10-4 - September 24, 2009
gosh…how many different sponsors can it have in 3 years?
I grew up calling it Winston Cup, and honestly, it was Winston the last time I even followed it for a whole season.
justincredubil02 - September 24, 2009
beating the mets
Is always good, even when we’re pretty much out of playoff contention.
RichmondBraves - September 24, 2009
possible but not likely...
I see that Colorado faces Wainwright on sat I assume that means they will see carpenter as well. Let’s hope these cy young hopefuls keep up the good work and shut down the mile high losers. If we change our ways against the nats and take care of business there is still hope….everyone get out their rally cap! I’m wearing mine in the office now! Let’s go bravos!
chippeforprez - September 24, 2009 via mobile
This could happen, but unlikely.
The Rockies are definitely looking over their shoulder, especially now that Marquis has come back to earth.
No matter what happens, if you’re still watching the standings in late September, it’s a very good thing.
Yakker - September 24, 2009
This.
Gage23 - September 24, 2009
it is
we suprisingly have a better shot at the division that the wild card, phily lost that cuts their lead in half putting us 2 and a half games back while the wild card is 4 games back
southman - September 24, 2009
Not
The Braves are 6.5 back of the Phillies in the NL East.
Old Braves' Fan - September 24, 2009
jeez man, what standings are you looking at?
SuperNewb - September 24, 2009
1992?
Yakker - September 24, 2009
what?
10-4 - September 24, 2009
Let’s go Miliwaukee and San Diego!!
bravos1984 - September 24, 2009
Padres!
Hopefully the Padres will beat Colorado tonight and the Cubs over San Fran.
deewill23 - September 24, 2009
Rockies lose!
3.5 games back.
Scott Coleman - September 24, 2009 via mobile
3 in the loss column
10-0 plus 6-3 = one game playoff.
Bronn - September 24, 2009
Going 6-3
Against the Cardinals (they face Carpenter, Wainwright and Lohse), Brewers and Dodgers is going to be tough. I’m thinking more like 5-4 or even 4-5.
Scott Coleman - September 25, 2009 via mobile
Frankly...
I’m most excited about caring about postseason baseball. Just the thought of it makes me giggle like a schoolgirl.
