This was the typical Jair Jurrjens start -- no run support, a quality start, and a few nail-biting bullpen innings -- but the Braves pulled out the win for him and turned two double plays to help JJ get out of some trouble. Interestingly, with this win, Jurrjens now has exactly the same record (13-and-10) that he had last season, but his ERA is almost a run less (from 3.68 to 2.70). What an amazing improvement from his first full season to his second. That ERA versus the record also crystallizes the issue the Braves have had scoring runs this year.
Yunel Escobar put the Braves ahead in the fourth inning with more two-out magic. After a single, a walk, and a sac bunt from our cleanup hitter, Garret Anderson failed to get anyone home, but Yuney came through by lacing a single up the middle to score two. He also began a ninth inning rally with a leadoff double off the Mets closer. Adam LaRoche followed with a single to drive him home.
Peter Moylan pitched a shaky eighth inning, and Rafael Soriano struck out the side in the ninth, though a two-out walk to Gary Sheffield made things interesting for a moment.
Brian McCann was forced to leave the game after being hit on the wrist by a foul ball in the fourth inning. X-rays showed no fracture, and McCann is only expected to miss a few games.
Other than that it was a good win for Atlanta, let's see if they can twist the dagger just a little deeper into the hearts of Mets fans tomorrow.

At the very least we will finish with a .500 record with an outside shot at 90 wins.

we might not play too well without a catcher tomorrow night…even if it’s against the Muts.
Scott Coleman - September 22, 2009
lol. I forgot to add Ross.

Is it just me
Or have we sucked with pinch hitting?
Conrad is stinking it up his second time up and Norton has been God awful.
I really hope the team tries to get at least one good consistent bat off the bench this offseason

Tough to get that guy, though.
A quality PH is very hard to find, and, frankly, they had every reason to expect that Norton was that guy the way he performed last season.

While I know his record supports the last part of this… it certainly feels like in a typical JJ start either we don’t get him enough run support, or the bullpen not only makes me bite my nails but then makes me hit a wall because they blow it…
Glad last night was different

The Rockies are unstoppable.

THIS. I haven’t checked, but I suspect our LOB numbers indicate we’ve been getting on base at a decent (not great) clip, but just haven’t been able to get that key hit when we needed it.
.
Do I dare wish for the….

YES I do.
