Game 132 Recap: Braves 4, Marlins 3

The rain delay for this game lasted as long as the game did, but I'm sure the 12 fans who were left in the stands by the time the game started at 10pm enjoyed the game. They were all no doubt there to see the return of the Braves' Tim Hudson to the mound -- and a successful return it was.

Timmy worked his way into trouble in the first inning by allowing back-to-back lead-off doubles, but then he looked like he was going to settle down when he struck out Hanley Ramirez swinging on a nasty change-up. But the next batter fought off an inside pitch for a two-run single up the middle. Hudson would pretty much cruise after that until the sixth when he gave up a double and two walks which loaded the bases with one out. Ground ball specialist Peter Moylan came on to get the rally-killing double play grounder.

Star-divide

I'd like to point out the use of Kris Medlen in this game. He came on to pitch the seventh, as Moylan was used in the sixth, and recorded a baserunnerless frame and two strikeouts. This shows a lot of confidence in Medlen, and seems to give Bobby Cox another shutdown bullpen arm to use in the late innings -- which allows him the luxury of using Moylan or Mike Gonzalez in earlier innings to get out of jams (like he did tonight).

The Braves tied the game in a strange way in the third inning. After Tim Hudson had coaxed a lead-off walk on four straight balls, Matt Diaz singled, and Prado and Chipper made outs. With Brian McCann up to bat, the Marlins pitcher made a move to throw to first, but the first baseman was playing in back of the runner, and the pitcher did not throw the ball and was charged with a balk. Hudson was on third and scored the tying run. McCann then used a 10-pitch at-bat to lace a double to center field to put the Braves ahead.

The Braves used a wild pitch in the eighth inning to help them advance a runner who ended up scoring on a single by Garret Anderson. That was a big add-on run as Rafael Soriano gave up a lead-off solo homerun in the ninth to Dan "man he's" Uggla. After a walk and a strikeout, another double play bailed out the Braves and gave them the victory.

It was a solid return for Hudson. His first innigs struggles could be attributed to the multi-day anticipation of this start, then having to wait around for three hours during the rain delay and think about it even more. This gives the Braves 6 solid options in the rotation -- now the only question is, "what will they do now?"

Great to see us win

with having to get up before the sun i had to clock out @ the 6th inning, good win for the Braves
Huddy looked pretty good to

Soriano

Now has 26 and 22 pitch outings on back-to-back nights. Hopefully Vaz can give us of the order 7-8 strong tonight, as I can’t see him pitching again. Thanks for using him 2 nights ago Bobby, with a 4 run lead!

Lets hope Soriano gets the day off today, as Day 3 appeared to put him in not so sharp form. Thats why i questioned using all our top arms with a 5-1 lead on Monday. Its a crucial four game series, and you can’t expect to not need them in almost every game. Take advantage when you’ve got a nice lead.

Moylan was huge, and a nice turn by not-so-defensive specialist Prado.

Sori

Was hitting 96 and 97 on the gun last night.

Not saying he doesn’t need a day off (he does), but to me he looked just fine.

Raffy could definitely use a breather

Velocity ain’t everything but it was still nice to see him hit 95-96 when having to be used three days in a row in September.

Great win

So good to see Hudson on the mound again…a very nice return.

Man, if we can pull off a 4-game sweep here…that would be HUGE!

It seems like Chipper is getting out on purpose these days.
I would be alright with giving him the day off today, save him as a PH.

Agreed.

Put Prado at third and Conrad at 2nd, and let Chipper take the day off.

wouldnt be surprised

All the whining he’s been doing lately

It was good to see Huddy back out there.

Solid stuff. That double play started by Prado was ricockulous.

It seems as though...

….you’re obsessed with making references to male genitalia.

lmao. Talk shit about football and you’re marked for death.

Nah, that’s actually a funny story. I have this friend and whenever he says “ridiculous” he says “ricockulous.”

Great win. Loved the return of Huddy.
“Dan “man he’s” Uggla."- :) nice gondee

My friend ripped off Dan Uggla. He works at a restaurant in Buckhead, and Uggla came in with a huge group during the last series. My friend didn’t mention that gratuity was already added, and Uggla ended up tipping him $60 bucks on accident. Hahaha nice! When he told me about it later, saying the 2nd basemen for the Marlins came in, it made me laugh pretty hard.

I hate servers that do that crap.

The server didn't do anything...

..people should look at their check; it’s plainly stated if the tip has been added.

Power to the people!

It's quite possible...

Actually I would say that it’s probable that Uggla knew the tip was included and tipped an extra $60 dollars because he was just being a nice guy. I’ve heard many stories about athletes and other well-to-do individuals giving much larger tips. It’s not like Uggla is going to be missing an extra $60.

well apparently

he just looked at the amount, gave his card, and then asked when it came back, “hey was the tip included?”. And my friend said no, so he add in ANOTHER $30, which made it a $60 tip.

And I completely agree that this is immoral and i agree with justin that I hate it when servers do this shit, BUT also just really dislike Uggla, so it made me laugh.

My friend didn’t mention that gratuity was already added

I know the server didn’t do anything…that is the problem. I have been screwed more times than I can count because of that crap.

Don’t you add up your check to make sure it’s right? Like I said, it’s on the check, plus usually on the menu that groups of more than 6 (or whatever) will have the tip added.

My daughter worked her way through college as a server, and there have been many times this has happened. What’s she supposed to do, question the customer as to whether they really meant to tip her? Many times the customer leaves after signing or paying. Now, if the customer asks, it is most definitely wrong to lie and say the tip wasn’t added, but if they don’t ask, you assume they know.

What’s a lot more common is people walking out without paying and the server is stuck with the bill (depending on the restaurant).

No. I don’t always check my bill to see if it is right. I trust people too much, I guess. I come from a background where you can believe what people tell you, and people don’t try to screw each other.

A server messing up the check is one thing. A server deliberately not telling a party that the tip is included, with the intention of getting tipped twice, is just wrong.

Call me old-fashioned, but if my service was good, and the server made sure to inform me that the tip was included, I will tip more. If the server tries to pull a fast one, I won’t tip at all.

I have actually crossed out the printed included tip, and wrote “I AM NOT LEAVING A TIP” on a reciept before.

Actually

Think that was the Fish announcer’s line. Gondee was probably just being ironic.

The Mets had to move because of Chipper Jones.
The Marlins had to move because of rain….and Matt Diaz.

Yawn..Because last night’s 6 hour marathon was like watching a west coast road trip game for me, LOL

However the bags under my eyes are well worth seeing Huddy take the mound last night and come away with a WIN!

Very proud of our guys last night with the rain delay, humid conditions to finally play in and ending up at 1am to have hung in there to play great til the end…and in September no less!

2 wins so far – may we have another?

Yep, i missed the bottom of the 8th and some of the top of the 9th because my eyes were closed, but thanks to Soriano, i was wide awake for the bottom of the 9th.

I’m sorry, I couldn’t hear what you said. Can you repeat it please?

Yep, i missed the bottom of the 8th and some of the top of the 9th because my eyes were closed, but thanks to Soriano, i was wide awake for the bottom of the 9th.

Ah! There we go. I heard you that time. Thanks!

u need to be promoted or something… you have too much friggin time on your hands..I’m calling ur superiors

agreed. he’s already captain of the Grammar Police.

What? Damn, I’m always the last to know.

lol…I called you out one time in jest…but, i am probably one of the last people here that should be calling people out on typos and grammar.

:)

lol…I will gladly accept a pay raise!

0 + 0

Still = 0.

Actually

its even more zero

i have no idea how the hell this happened.

What about Medlen in the 9th?

Assuming the 9th is RH heavy, then why not put Medlen in the 9th? He’s been phenomenal to-date. Could have potential with his amazing location

Medlens only problem seems to be his nerves from time to time. I think the ninth inning would be too much pressure on the kid.
That was great...

let’s do it again tonight.

Sometimes, it’s fun to listen to the opposing team’s announcers.

Last night, the Fish guys were so in awe of the Braves bullpen it was hilarious. And the boys lived up to their rep.

Nice win.

agreed, even scouting reports on pitchers they havent seen. It was quite amusing to listen to them discuss KK the other day.

Chipper's struggles continue...

Gah come on Bobby give him a much needed breather, I know Chip wants to be in there everyday, but itd serve the team well to let him sit out a night. Huddy looked great tonight, besides the ball being up a little in the 1st he was pretty sharp considering it was his first start back. Gonzo looked good wish Bobbo would let him close one or two. Medlen is the man and I’m not opposed to him closing one when Raffy needs a rest. Let’s go get em tonight!

We’ve got Vazquez against VandenHurk, and Hanson against Nolasco.

Anyone else feeling a sweep? I thought for sure we’d lose Monday’s game, but we’re already halfway home.

(giggles with excitement)

I hope it gets rain delayed again tonight. Since I work for a TV station I don’t get home until midnight so I was actually able to see the last 3 innings of the game.

Gaining ground in the WC is going to be hard since two teams have to lose now. Last night SF lost but Colorado won so we didn’t gain anything.

We gained a game on the Giants. Ya gotta knock’em down one at a time.

Ya

if they collectively go .500 from here, that’d be awesome. Last night was a success.

And don’t worry: the Rockies have more games to lose.

One good thing about SportSouth is that they repeat the game right after the postgame show, and again the next afternoon.

This

It’s awesome when games get delayed, because I get to watch them live (I’m in California).

NOOOOOO!!!!!!!!! Blasphemy!!!!

Glad you got to see it, though.

12 Fans?

That means no one left during the delay.

It sounded as though all the people left in the stands were Braves fans.

I see what you did there..

This is good!

Team should be able to pull out a sweep with the pitching match-ups we have coming up. Hopefully tonight Bobby gives Chip and Mac the day off since the pitcher we are facing tonight isnt that great and our offense should be able to generate a good bit of offense.

With that we should be able to give the big arms in the pen some rest. utilize carlyle, logan and valdez.

That way they can come rested for this weekend!!!

Yeah. Give Chipper the night off and plug Kelly or Connie in somewhere. And with Sammons and Ross around, let Mac get rested up so he can crush the Commies.

Agreed. It’s not as if we’ll miss much in the way of offense or defense at third. Not the way Chipper’s been, anyway.

Sorta like we swept SD?
Team should be able to pull out a sweep with the pitching match-ups we have coming up.

How about Church and that Pinch Hit Double
