Win, win, win... I love it. This is a nice little streak we're on, but I still feel the Braves are like a boxer on the ropes. With their second Central Time Zone first pitch because of the rain the ATL, the Braves had to wait another 2 hours to start this game. Jair Jurrjens took over from there. Mark Bowman noted on Twitter that Jurrjens "has now allowed two earned runs or less in 23 of his 31 starts." So the fact that he only has 12 wins tells the story of our season -- not enough offense when it counted.
We got some offense Thursday night, though. Brian McCann slugged a 3-run 2-out homer in the decisive 4-run fifth inning, and every batter in the lineup, including the pitcher had a hit on the night. Nate McLouth went 2-for-4 to bring his numbers in September to .413/.500/.652.
Both Colorado and Philly won last night, so no progress in either post-season race, though we could put a large dent in that deficit this weekend when the Phillies come to town.
Get your game recap here, I turned in last night after The Office. I can't prepare myself well enough for long rain delays. West coast games are one thing, because you know they're coming, but long rain delays just kill my schedule. It looks like that rain won't be going away either, as the forecast calls for showers for the next three days (especially during game time).

What a stud picture of McCann there.
Missed the game unfortunately cause of the stupid rain delay and I was tired.
Good things happen when the guys at the top are getting on base. Martin Prado and McLouth both are heating back up.
A great win for JJ who deserves about 8 more wins than what he currently has.
Garrett Anderson batting third gives me the shivers though.

Wow
what a great win. Hopefull this means that we can do some damage over the weekend and pick up some ground in either/both race.
By the way gondeee, Colorado was off last night so we picked up a half game and moved passed the Marlins into 3rd in the Wildcard and second in the East

The Office was awesome (as usual) last night.
Par Core!
Does anyone have any idea who the Matt Damon look-alike was? I swear it was Matt Damon at 18 years old!

My wife didn’t get it though…

Great episode, Great show

That game was almost Maddux-esque. JJ went 7 (after a rain delay, meaning he might have been able to throw a CG if we started on time) letting up minimal runs in minimal time. Baseball was only played for 2:22 last night (with 2:03 min rain delay).

IF we go out,
at least we are going out with a bang!
I haven’t given up on it yet and won’t until the last pitch is thrown, but this is why I am and always have been a Braves fan!

Are we hot enough???
Can we sustain this fast ride through the Phillies series? I would really like to see the bats swinging at the right times in this series. Here’s to cautious optomism!
GO BRAVES!!!

Hopefully we’ll find out tonight. Farking weather.
Sparhawk - September 18, 2009
I’ll be doing my anti-rain dance throughout the weekend; so hopefully that will help out some.

Get It.
Go Chief, Go Chief, it’s your birthday!
thought i would send a little 90’s vibe since that’s a very nostalgic period for us all.

How Sweep It Is!
These late night games have been worth every minute of delay.
Let’s go guys – keep on winning!
NCChopper - September 18, 2009
The Mets may have been decimated by injuries this year and all… but it is always a delight to sweep those guys.
get swoll yunel - September 18, 2009
i enjoy the fact that we put them 20 games UNDER .500.
:)

dare to believe
cling to hope. This team is still in it. If not anything this team has shown great resolve & a refuse to quit attitude this year. After that crappy Reds series & w/the Cards next they could’ve called it a year & threw in the towel. They decided to fight. Playoffs or not we’re looking @ a winning team. They’re winners because of a never say die attitude.

As much as I’d like to agree with your post, I’m afraid I can’t. If we were fighters, we would have been fighting since we were a couple games out of the WC and 4 games out of the division… but we looked rotten out on the field for a couple weeks and as a result, we’re suffocating holding our breath until the post season spots are clinched. If we had been fighting, we’d easily be in contention for the post season.
Gage23 - September 18, 2009
Oh...
so they weren’t trying to win?
sddbaker - September 18, 2009
No
Teams that lose games aren’t trying to win. Teams that win are usually trying to, unless they don’t ever win in walkoff fashion, in which case they’re lazy and hate baseball.
Bronn - September 18, 2009
I wonder why...
more teams don’t try to win all 162 games, because then they would be really famous.
sddbaker - September 18, 2009
I just don’t agree with the term “fighting to be in it.” I didn’t say trying to win or lose.
Gage23 - September 18, 2009
Colorado didn’t play last night, so we gained a half game on them.
10-4 - September 18, 2009
Wouldn't it be Mountain Time, not Central?
