Atlanta Braves Announce Tentative 2010 Schedule

Per a press release:

Today the Atlanta Braves and Major League Baseball released their tentative schedule for the 2010 season. A finalized schedule with start times will be released at a later date in the offseason.

The Braves open the regular season on Monday, April 5, at Turner Field, with a three-game series versus the Chicago Cubs (April 5-8) and then open the road portion of the 2010 season with a three-game set at the San Francisco Giants on April 9.

The 2010 home schedule includes nine games each against National League East Division rivals New York, Philadelphia, Washington and Florida, as well as a three-game set versus the Florida Marlins over the July 4th holiday weekend (July 2-4). The Braves host a four-game weekend series against the Los Angeles Dodgers (August 13-16), a four-game weekend match-up against the St. Louis Cardinals (September 9-12), and will conclude their home slate October 1-3 with the Philadelphia Phillies.

The Braves play a total of five interleague series, with three of the series coming at home against the Tampa Bay Rays (June 15-17), who will be making their first visit to Atlanta since 2001, the Kansas City Royals (June 18-20), and the Detroit Tigers (June 25-27). The Braves' American League road opponents include the Minnesota Twins (June 11-13) and the Chicago White Sox (June 22-24).

The overall home slate features 36 games against National League East Division opponents, 19 games against the N.L. Central Division, 17 against the N.L. West Division and nine against the American League.

In addition to the regular-season schedule, the Braves are slated to play a pair of exhibition games at Turner Field on Friday, April 2, and Saturday, April 3, versus the Chicago White Sox.

First thoughts:

  • Weird that we open the year against out-of-division teams. It's April 20th before we play an NL East foe.
  • Big road trip in June, going from LA to Arizona, to Minnesota (11 total games) -- I'm so going to one of those games in Minnesota (new ballpark).
  • As hard as our interleague schedule was in 2009, our 2010 interleague schedule looks pretty easy!
  • Once again, no extra day off after the All-Star break.
  • We end the season at home against Philly -- that could be a good series.

Oof

Not liking having to start the season at home on the road against the Cubs.

yeah, thats too early. cub’s fans will still think that they’re gonna win the world series. Its much better later in the season when their spirits are crushed.

wait is it at home or on the road?

It’s at home on the road.

It may not be as bad if its the first series of the year. The home opening series usually draws atlanta fans out, so perhaps it will feel more like a neutral site.

I also see that there is a day off between the exhibition games against the White Sox and the opener against the Cubs. That leaves an opening for mlb to have us fly to Japan for a one day exhibition against the A’s.

Are you sure? The schedule says those are home games.

I'm being facetious

Based on the absurd amount of fair-weathered Cubs fans that come and infect Turner Field, turning it into a Cubs home game.

Oh. Duh. ;)

yeah i got that too, but it took me a little while.

I thought one interleague opponent was a yearly "rival"...

with ours being the Red Sox—like Yankees/Mets, Cubs/White Sox, Angels/Dodgers, A’s/Giants, etc.

Interleague scheduling

will never be comprehensible or explainable, with the inbalanced alignment of the divisions and leagues. If you were to tell me that Bud Selig had a mat of all the teams and threw beanbags to declare “rivals,” I’d totally believe it.

I can't stand interleague. they should really just give up on that.

The rivalry will only grow with us not playing the Red Sox next year. Braves fans and Red Sox fans everywhere will gather in local sports bars and argue about whose team is better. Braves fans will recall the legendary Kyle Davies game of 2005, and Red Sox fans will cite the now famous Coco Crisp game of 2007. I believe Kyle Davies belt is on display in Cooperstown from that game. Yes, with no way to settle the heated debate, the Braves will soon overtake the Yankees as Boston’s chief rival.

Davies' debut

That game was so awesome. I remember after the Braves clinched that season, they had this montage of the 14 best moments of #14, and one of them was Kyle Davies’ debut, and they had it to the opening sequence of AC/DC’s Hell’s Bells with Davies blowing away Manny Ramirez and David Ortiz while it was raining and like 40 degrees in Boston.

Don’t forget about the epic Nick Green Heroics of 2009!

you mean the Bill Hohn heroics, right?

“I heard that…..”
(flips through forum membership, looking for someone to ban)

No "Lets Go Red Sox" chants at Turner in 2009!!

Photobucket

At least no more chants. If by chance you meant 2010….only if we face them in the WS.

Let’s hope that series with Philly in October has a hell of a lot on the line

Actually, now that I think about it, hopefully we have the division clinched then, but I think everyone knew what I meant. :D

since i live in the bay area i guess my only time to see a live game is in April….not ideal

but i’m liking the interleague schedule better than this years’

Should i get tickets for opening day, or wait and find out what day the ring ceremony will be held?

I’m betting Yankee Stadium will be sold out for the ring ceremony long before you could buy tickets. :P

Just kidding….optimism is always good. ;)

if the skankees lose again this year, im going to cry tears of joy.

If?

Have you not watched baseball for the last five+ years?

interleague schedule seems navigable

I’d give up the Yankees and Sox for the Rays and Royals any day

I’ll be in England in April….no opening day for me this year. :-(

Braves @ Twins

I too will be attending at least one of the Braves/Twins series. I live in MN, and this will in all likelihood be my first trip to Target Field. What a treat, new ballpark and I get to see the Braves.
