Game 101 Recap: Braves 3, Marlins 6

Ugh. Another rough one. Kenshin Kawakami just doesn't pitch well against the Marlins, and the Braves are back to struggle mode on the offensive side. The Angels players had a good night, as both Casey Kotchman and Garret Anderson hit homeruns, which accounted for all the Braves runs.

Brian McCann is too smart to keep hitting into the over-shift, but he keeps doing it. Come on McCann, hit the ball to the left side. It was a frustrating night for Mac, who also got thrown out of the game in the top of the ninth for arguing a call in the previous inning for which Bobby Cox was ejected for.

Tough night. Ugh.

Can Mcann go the other way?

Anyone know where to get some historical spray charts to see if he’s even capable ot using the whole field?

we have to win tomorrow

and then start up a little run again. the Dodgers have been struggling so we have a shot.

On the bright side....

nice triple Kelly.

are you fucking kidding me!!?! Kawakami gave up a 3 run HR to Josh Johnson… dammit this fucking litte son of a bitch of chinese!!! it should have been 3 – 3!!

Im feeling a ban coming on..

wait, is there banning here?

Oh

yeah. I got banned from an Auburn blog so I can personally testify to it.

two stupid things in back to back games have cost us HUGE games

IGNORE IT!

Here on TC, we only discuss the Braves in a positive light. If you choose not to, you’re not a real fan!

I don't think the question here is positive or negative...

….I think it goes deeper than than that. It’s very, very possible to be critical of the team and of individual members of the team without being, well, an asshole, about it.

Yikes
dammit this fucking litte son of a bitch of chinese!!!

Should TC consider a minimum IQ for membership? Or a basic understanding of spelling and grammar? And I’m not really into political correctness, but… yikes

This is a Southern team, with Southern fans. I’m from Georgia, trust me, calling Kawakami that is the same as just saying that he had a bad game (we just do it alittle differently). I.E. I called my little cousin a douche canoe motherd*ck cause he knocked down my line of dominoes too early.

I’m also from Georgia and I’m going to say there is no justification for that.

I'm Southern as well....

…a fact I carry great pride in. Please don’t equate being Southern with being a racist redneck. Too many people already do that for us.

Dude, if you or anyone else wants to call me a racist redneck, then go ahead. When anyone ever brings up that stereotype, I just laugh at the poor insult attempt. I’m 23, graduated from one of the top private universities in the South and already settled into a very respectible accounting career. I have black friends that I love just as much as any other friend. I am a big Kawakami supporter, and have verbally fought for him on this board. Oh yeah, I say abunch of offensive things that I mean absolutely nothing by, and that automatically makes me a racist redneck.

I realize your not directly calling me a racist redneck, but your saying that I am forcing an equivilency of being Southern and a racist redneck. I’m arguing that the words that I am free to say do not make me a racist, especially when watching a sports game (which offensive language is clearly a part of). I’m not running in front of Kawakami’s house, calling him a chinaman or whatever, but if he gives up a 3 run homer to a pitcher, then I might say something mean about him to my TV. <<<—-I know my local, Southern friends do the same shit talking. I was in California when the Lakers lost to the Celtics in the Finals last year. Californians are not as innovative in their insults (but I heard someone call Rondo some sort of F**, which was funny). Northerners seem to stick to general curse words…

Example – Rick’s Sports Bar – GA (not a real bar BTW)

Braves Fan 1 – “Damnit Kawakami, FFFFFFFFFFFFF’ YOUUUU, you tiny sonuvgun.”
Concerned Braves Fan 2 – “Excuse me sir, I’m so offended by you calling him tiny. Just cause he is Asiain, doesn’t mean he has to be tiny. You, my friend, are a racist redneck.”
Braves Fan 1 – “What the fuck are you talking about? Oh, and BTW, I’m not your Buddy…Carlyle.”

overreaction alert....

Dude, chill. I am simply saying that the original poster sounded a bit uneducated and redneck, and I really didn’t like it being excused as “oh nevermind him, that’s just how we talk down here, we don’t really mean it”. I guess I don’t agree that saying something to your TV is the same as saying it in a public forum. I guess I don’t necessarily agree, either, that offensive language is “clearly” a part of sports, but I suppose I’m a dying breed there.

I agree that stereotyping Southerns as racist rednecks is a poor, lazy, unimaginative attempt at insulting us. I guess I’m just hypersensitive to remarks that seem to feed the stereotype.

It’s Dudette, btw….and props on the accounting career. I’m a bean counter as well!

Nice Southernly Charm Response

Super bored at work, I was looking for a good argument that would heat me up and speed up time. I remember I got into it with Smoltz Beard and some others one day and I swear I posted 150 comments within 8-9 hours (went by soooo fast too!) Thanks for the friendly solution though!!!

To counter your points!

As for the excuse. I do expect my friends. and others, to understand that I am full of shit and I’m not trying to offend anyone (I wouldn’t expect a perfect stranger of this, but I would expect this of my fellow bloggers of my favorite team). That doesn’t mean that I’m OK with “that’s just how we talk down here, we don’t really mean it.” If I say something offensive, then I mean what I say. I don’t mean to cause any issues when I say it, but I definitely mean it. For example, if I were to call a homosexual friend of mine a f*gg**. I mean that he’s a homo, but I’m just jokingly calling him the offensive version. I would never, ever want to hurt any feelings. He’s proud to be gay and laughs when I call him that (cause he knows I’m just kidding).

I’m not really saying that it is perfectly OK to curse or call offensive names on this message board. In fact, maybe Joey took it too far. However, saying it on a public forum or to a TV is WAY more acceptible then saying it in a resturant or grocery store.

As recently as the other night, I heard one of the announcers responding to an instance where Lowe screamed the f-word after he missed a pitch or something. The announcer’s response was simple, “curse words have always been a part of sporting events”. This point is especially crucial to baseball, which is a game of constant failure. When a person gets frustrated enough, they will most likely give in and say something bad. Its not too different from bumping your toe and screaming OWW, than to give up a home run and scream SHIT.

Congrats on your career as well, somebody’s always gonna need something counted..haha…

Frankly...

It’s not anyone’s decision as to whether their comments offend others. Now, when people get offended on another’s behalf, that’s another matter, but the source doesn’t get to determine the offensiveness of any remark they make.

IDK

I have things I flat out won’t say, because I know that it is soo offensive that I would get probably get shot by someone…

The creators of South Park set out to make an offensive, funny cartoon (they did just that). That guy that played Kramer on Seinfield wanted to be an offensive comedian, however, he tried alittle too hard…

Your saying that I can’t choose to offend somebody, or how much to offend somebody. Personally, I think I can offend anyone. If I am looking for them to respond in a certain way, I can vary the offensiveness of certain words/gestures.

Also, it’s not always words, its context and tone aswell…

Yes, that's exactly my point.

You do not control the reaction of anyone.

At least in my book, dropping the F bomb isn’t as offensive as being racist. Someone can deserve a good FU every now and then, but no one deserves mistreatment because of their race. It’s got nothing to do with their character or how they play baseball. If KK screws over the Braves somehow and you want to cuss him out here to hell, that’s one thing (still dumb, but that’s one thing). But the fact that he is Japanese has nothing to do with it. It’s an unfair, unintelligent insult. At least come up with something with substance…

What if the F bomb was really a bomb? And every time you said it, people died. Then how would you feel Gage? Feel any better than calling some a Jewbag cause they took ALL of the toilet paper and she didn’t replace the ROLL!!

not gonna lie

I lol’d…

Haven't Jews suffered enough?

Honestly, it’s not funny.

I don't care if people stereotype me as racist....

Just don’t get mad when I stereotype you.

I had prior commitments and couldn't watch tonight's game.

Looks like I would have ended the night frustrated had I rearranged my schedule to accommodate this game. I think from the score and quick recap that dinner with my sister and niece followed by a movie was a better use of my time.

A 3-run homer to the opposing pitcher? UGH.

I’m hoping we can salvage at least 1 game in this series – for pride’s sake alone.

There were 906 comments in the gamethread

at least 900 were about how much you were missed.

Happy to know my friend was out having fun. We missed you, but will admit you would have been as frustrated as I was, had you been watching!

Hoping for better luck tomorrow…..

Did we ever figure out...

…what was up with Bill “I swallow male ejaculate” Honn pulling out the lineup cards?

worst nickname ever
Well, it IS better than...

…Bill “I can’t get enough necrophilia” Hohn.

I

was really wondering the same thing about the lineup cards…

im sorry about the kawakami insults but its very frustrating to give up the opposing pitcher a 3 run HR AND lose by 3!

KK's quote after the game

“Giving up a home run with two outs to the pitcher isn’t just disappointing, but pathetic to me," Kawakami said through his translator.

Im sure KK feels horrible about it.

At least the guy bucks up and takes responsibility. Not saying that makes him a better player on the field, but it’s still nice to see.

agreed

If he blamed it on bad calls, umpiring, a bad mound, etc. i’d be a little upset. but for him to man up and admit he made a big mistake was very good of him.

Well it looks like Soriano could take a lesson from Mr. Kawakami.

;)

Didn’t Hampton hit a GS of Santana the other week?

Big difference there.

Hampton’s career OPS is almost 650. He’s a good hitter. Even after that Homer, Johnson’s under 375.

Just don't make it a habit

Marlins are playing good baseball right now (won 7 of 8). Sometimes you run into a team that is having all the chips fall their way.

win tonight and even the road trip up at .500. I am of the belief that if you go .500 on a road trip you can consider it a success.

It IS a problem...

when “all the chips fall” the way of the other team the majority of the time.

I just saw the clip of the “fist pump” of Hohn with the Marlins catcher at the end of the game.
=> This Thread

While not in your face celebratory, it certainly shows a lack of professionalism IMO. It’s well known a fist pump isn’t the same thing as a handshake – it indicates an “agreement with” something that just happened whereas a handshake is usually more cordial.

Now, I don’t know if Hohn has a hardon for the Braves – but he certainly likes ejecting them for a reason. I think he’s ejected like 5 in the last 2 games with us. He should have been going out of his way last night since he did eject 2 of our players to make certain he did nothing to show partiality. I wouldn’t make a big stink, or bitch publicly, but if I were the Braves I would file a complaint.

The statistics laid out on the other threads about him and his percentages is pretty telling his skills are not impressive as an umpire. What the heck is keeping him his job?

He’s at 3rd tonight – I hope Chipper can keep his cool because it won’t take much for this guy to toss him.

WHY DID THIS THREAD GET DELETED??

The fist pump one that Chopper linked to.

My guess would be because there were 2 threads, same exact topic.
There is still another thread – just not with the .gif

I just noticed there is a FanShot posted with it there.
FanShot of Hohn
If anyone is interested.

It

looks like the Marlins catcher is initiating the hand shake, or whatever it is. Maybe Hohn was just entertaining the gesture…?

Chipper said he had never seen that in 16 years.

I never blame games solely on umpires, but hopefully we get a homeplate ump tonite that’s not a midget, or a complete retard.

or a complete retard.

as a retarded southerner, I am offended.

The ump was a sure downer making the cals that he did, but we lost because we didn’t hit well and Kawakami lost it giving up that homer to the pitcher. I wonder if he had been given the scouting report on Johnson so he would have known that he’s done that before. I think the pitching coach is doing a good job, but who knows? I don’t think the Braves will make the wild card simply because their hitting is so streaky, but look at the bright side. When you watch a game you never know what your going to get, kinda keeps me coming back. At least they are not boring, just aggravating LOL. What pisses me off are the freaking high parking fees at Turner field, it’s going to cost me more than my season tix.

One career homer doesn't exactly make the guy a threat.

Johnson had like a 350 career OPS before that bomb.

Those Royals

In case no one yet noticed, but the KC Royals picked up Josh Anderson…..now, I know everyone here is completely floored by that, right?

per MLBTradeRumors

Tibiits on Braves site about last night's game.
Tidbits

Jair Jurrjens posted his 15th quality start of the season on Tuesday night. The Braves rank fourth in the Majors with 59 quality starts. Last year, they ranked 20th with a total of 75. … Anderson has homered in the first two games of this series and four times since the All-Star break. He had just five homers in the 67 games he played before the break. … The Braves have allowed a Major League-low 68 homers this year. Wednesday night marked the fourth time this year that one of their starters (Kenshin Kawakami) allowed at least three homers in a game.
Uhhh

are there no new posts today? No minor league recaps? No stories what-so-ever?

I know its been a bad 2 days but this site is boring today!

i was wondering the same thing. i didn’t get my fix this morning and I’ve been twitching all day. Must have caught it from those Braves players.

Pirates traded Tom Gorzelanny and John Grabow to the Cubs.

What are year for the Pirates. All the players they acquired since June 3:

Charlie Morton, Gorkys, Jeff Locke, Tim Alderson, Josh Harrison, Ronny Cedeno, Aaron Pribanic, Brett Lorin, Nathan Adcock, Hunter Strickland, Argenis Diaz, Lastings Milledge, Kevin Hart, Jose Ascanio, Joel Hanrahan, Casey Erickson and Eric Fryer.

Does this give them the best farm system in baseball now?

No.

That’s the sad part.

Not by a long shot.

what about the most top-heavy?
