Gwinnett 1, Scranton/WB 1 - 7th
This game was delayed a while due to the wet stuff and ended JoJo Reyes' night a little earlier than I am sure he had anticipated. No offense to speak of from anyone other than Sammons, but there is still some time. Scranton's starter and manager were both ejected in the 2nd inning. Update: The game is being delayed by rain again, in the 7th.
Jeff Lyman pitched decently in this game giving up 3 runs in 5.1 innings. His control plagued him (at tends to happen with Lyman) but he mustered through. Jeff has been a bit better as a reliever this year than a starter and my guess is that will be his role in the future with Atlanta. Anyone want a power lefty out of the pen? Yes, please.

Tyler Stovall is going to be one of those guys that drives me crazy. He already reminds me a little of Lyman with the control issues from the left side, but I think he has better stuff and more room to grow. I wonder if that is part of his problem this year, maybe he added some velocity and hasn't harnessed it yet. Here is his line thus far:

Anthony Northcraft has been pretty solid for the Braves so far only allowing 9 hits in 14 innings to go along with 18K. Oh, also he is flashing a gaudy 6.33 GB rate. I think that has a lot to do with young guys who don't make solid contact yet, but you know, it still counts and looks good. My boy Christian Bethancourt went 0-5 with 2K.

technically 3rd, he went 0-1 in the completed game that was suspended from june 27 before he arrived in AA.

yondaime4 – I am new to this site. In fact, this is my first post. Let me compliment you on the work you do in compiling all of the minor league notes every night. Thank you very much! I go to the milb.com site myself, but your compilation helps me a lot. If I need anything else, I can go myself, but your work saves me some time.
RE: Cody Johnson. I know he strikes out too much, but he’s hitting around .260. Reminds me of 2 major leaguers with sock, that also strike out a lot. They both also have averages around .260. Ryan Howard and Adam Dunn. I don’t think their clubs care how much they strike out as long as they keep hitting lots of big flies and driving in runs. In fact, Dunn has a good OBP due to receiving a lot of walks, as does Cody.
Do you or anyone else know what kind of fielder Cody is? In a couple of years, the Braves outfield will be Cody in left, Heyward in right and McClouth/Schafer in center. Don’t know how they’ll field, but brother there will be some serious pop from that bunch!

Cody is supposedly just like Dunn in everyway including the fielding.
Heyward is supposed to be a pretty good fielder with a pretty good arm. Not Frenchy kind but good. Schafer is fast and just has to take some better routes sometimes.

Don’t want to be a downer but it kind of bothers me that Adam Dunn comparisons get tossed around so easily. When Adam Dunn was a 19-year-old in single-A he walked twice as often as Johnson does and struck out half as much. Johnson’s single-A numbers resemble Dunn’s major league numbers but that’s not comparing apples to apples. Johnson’s got some serious work to do on his strikeout rate if he wants to make it at the upper levels and his current production does not suggest an Adam Dunn career path quite yet.

It just means they seem like the same kind of player. It’s not saying Johnson will be the next dunn.

RSF has been playing through a bruised hand. Black and blue with swelling. He played the last 5 games with the injury before sitting out two days including and off day. Not to make an excuse for the kid but that might have something to do with it.

Stovall’s FIP is somewhere in the neighborhood of 4.52, so he’s outpitching his peripherals like K-Rod is. 88.2% strand rate. Yeah, about that.
