Gwinnett 2, Charlotte 7
Holy CRAP! Brandon Jones hit a freaking home run! It only took him 66 games. Kelly Johnson didn't do anything in this rehab start and JoJo Reyes wasn't in the game very long, but he hasn't been bad in in his two starts since coming off the DL.

Myrtle Beach 4, Frederick 5
Cole Rohrbough looked pretty solid in his first three innings in this game but then imploded in the 4th to give up 4 runs. He just doesn't seem to be able to get through a game lately without having one bad inning. A couple other things to note here. Ernesto Mejia is now back with Myrtle Beach after being out for most of the first half with a knee injury. Mejia is an XBH machine and if he can knock the rust off he should be fun to watch. Also Gerry Rodriguez appears to have adjusted nicely to Myrtle Beach with a .964 OPS through his first 9 games here. This team might have just replaced the production they lost with Heyward and Freeman getting promoted.

Danville 6, Burlington 3
Yeah, look at Randy Gress getting it done! He is actually hitting a robust .304 and has nearly an .800 OPS. Why hasn't he taken Chipper's job yet?

He got roughed up pretty good today.

I really think we’re going to end up killing Pittsburg in that deal.
Scott Coleman - July 13, 2009
That might be true, but I really don’t see that as being a good outcome for trades. Ideally, both sides get good return on what they acquire, and are happy with the deal, and want to trade with each other in the future. I don’t think there’s any upside to fleecing someone.
cbwilk - July 13, 2009
So true
But I think with this deal, even if none of the players that Pittsburgh received turn out to be all-stars, it was still a fair deal. And one thing I was expecting you to mention (becuase you seem to have met them all) is that some of the guys that get traded are good dudes, and we should wish them success when they’re not playing the Braves.
buzzdeadwax - July 13, 2009
That last part couldn’t be more true. The three guys we gave up are some of the highest quality guys I’ve ever met wearing Braves uniforms and we should absolutely hope they do well.
I actually saw Lynchburg today and talked to Jeff. He definitely would have preferred to stay with the Braves; he was comfortable there, playing with a bunch of guys that he knew and liked. But, he likes the guys he’s playing with now, and he’s giving it a good go, it’s just a really tough adjustment. You can tell he’s having a little bit of a hard time, but I think he’ll be alright. He’s a smart kid and he loves baseball.

i think Morton will be a pretty good pitcher
Heyward is the next crime dog - July 13, 2009
Even so Brandon’s SLG is still higher than Francoeur’s (and Church’s). I’m not really sure why the Braves didn’t give Jones more of a chance in Atlanta this season.

Power
They are wanting power and until this point he hadn’t shown any. In fact neither has Church but i think they only got him to rid themselves of FYF

No, really?
