Tom Glavine considering filing grievance against Braves

Did anyone think that the Tom Glavine fiasco would just quietly go away after John Schuerholz issued a public apology yesterday? I did, but boy was I wrong. This is the gift that keeps getting re-gifted. From K-Ros at Fox, we get this:

Glavine's agent, Gregg Clifton, has spoken with a labor attorney and the players' union about possibly filing the grievance, according to a major-league source.

Players cannot be released by their teams due to financial reasons, according to the collective-bargaining agreement. Glavine was set to receive a $1 million bonus once he made the major-league roster, another $1.25 million for 30 days on the roster and another $1.25 million for 90 days on the roster.

Jeez. I know Tommy's pissed, but continuing to drag out the bad blood in public like this is exhausting. The article goes on to say that there's not much chance this will even go anywhere if the grievance is filed:

If history is any indicator, Glavine would not have much of a chance should he file the grievance. Historically, teams have the upper hand in such cases and don't need a significant performance based reason to release a player.

Let it go, Tom.

I guess Glavine and Clifton would have to prove that the Braves released him due to financial reasons, which is about damn near impossible.

Particularly when you’ve got Tommy Hanson waiting in the wings…That’s what I would call a plausible alternative theory…

I like Tommy and all ....

but this crap has to stop. The Braves paid him well for many, many years. After going to the damn Mets for five years, we give him a chance. At his age with the crap he is throwing what does he expect?

I swear Glavine and Smoltz the past year are acting like spoiled kids. I grew up watching these two and it is their reps’, not the Braves’s, going down the toilet.

I’m at the point of saying screw them.

I eagerly anticipate all of the blind Kool Aid drinkers to come back and talk about how we’re assholes.

and use $100 words to do it.

Smell that??

I smell a pussyyyy. suck it up tom.

I agree with the sentiment somewhat...

….but a little more..class?…in your phrasing would be appreciated, at least by me.

stay classy, my friend, stay classy….

The phrase is beating a dead HORSE, not fish

sorry if i wasnt classy

but tommy G isnt being classy either so its fair!

Good Lord…I think this sufficiently proves my point earlier about him being a big baby here.

Tom, we love you. But, you are done. Finished. Can no longer compete. Go away and enjoy the Hall of Fame. Watch your kids grow up and enjoy your grandkids.

Just what I failed to express earlier
This is starting...

to make me sad.

I love Tom Glavine

I grew up watching him pitch. I never held the union stuff against him. I never held him signing with the Mets against him. But this is pathetic.

I think we should institute a year long ban on any mention of his name on the blog in order to protect himself from his own asshattery.

maybe we should boycott Gregg Clifton’s clients.

Gregg Clifton’s Clients: Barry Burbank, Kevin McCabe, Brandon Wood, David Wells, Andrew Sisco, Matt Kinney, Tom Glavine, J.D. Durbin, Jack Cust, Kris Benson, Brian Bannister, Mark Mulder

Other then Wood, there is nobody I’m interested in ever seeing in a Braves uniform.

This is a stupid idea.

Also, Brandon Wood could outproduce 6 of our 8 starters if given regular playing time.

I too really like Brandon Wood, This was more of a joke over our problems with Furcal, and all the crap Tommy’s agent is trying to pull.

two things

1) Correct me if I’m wrong here, but wasn’t he being paid to re-hab in the minor leagues. It is not as if he was pitching for free. I get the feeling he was making a bit more than the rest of us make if we are out due to a work related injury.

2) The only thing left for Tommy to say is that the grievance isn’t about the money.
