From the Braves PR office, tonight's rubber game in the Braves - Cubs series has been postponed:
Tonight's game between the Chicago Cubs and Atlanta Braves, scheduled for 7:10 p.m., has been postponed due to inclement weather. The game is re-scheduled for Monday, June 22 at 7:10 p.m.
We'll have to wait one more day for Nate McLouth's debut in a Braves' uniform. And we may have to wait until Sunday afternoon for Tommy Hanson's first major league start. An interesting side note to that possible game change is that Hanson is a merely a really good pitcher so far this year in day games, as opposed to night games where he is a super-human. Here are his day/night split stats from this year at Gwinnett:
Day Games: 3GS, 0-and-1, 3.18 ERA, .231 BAA
Night Games: 8GS, 3-and-2, 0.91 ERA, .146 BAA
I wonder if this will play a factor in how the Braves rearrange the rotation, either keeping Hanson pitching Saturday or moving him back to Monday.
The make-up game for the Cubs will be on an off-day when the team returns from Boston to start a homestand against the Yankees, Red Sox, and Phillies... a tough homestand that will be made tougher by no off-day and a Cubs team that may be able to pull itself together by then.

drumzalicious - June 4, 2009
That means Tommy should be pitching Friday in Baltimore. Hmm…
cbwilk - June 4, 2009
Booking my hotel tomorrow.
bigjoe - June 5, 2009
FUCK!
This is bullshit.
MichaelProcton - June 5, 2009
God dammit…do I take next Friday off and spend two nights in Baltimore…decisions, decisions…
Smoltz's Beard - June 5, 2009
I hope you have a kevlar vest
royhobbs - June 5, 2009
I am crossing my fingers for another rain out! LOL
mvandonsel - June 5, 2009
Somehow, I doubt they’d push all starters back again… but the weather in Atlanta is a little iffy right now, overcast skies, and what looks to be a good chance of rain. But considering the last Friday rain delay game that that happened (KK vs. Halladay), I wouldn’t mind it the results were similar tonight.
royhobbs - June 5, 2009
A guy can hope right?
mvandonsel - June 5, 2009
I’m hoping that you’re not as big of a loser in person as you are on here next weekend.
royhobbs - June 5, 2009
haha, I hope he just punches you in the fact the first time you meet
Smoltz's Beard - June 5, 2009
There is a very good chance that this will happen.
“Which one of you guys is royhobbs?”
Everybody points at bigjoe and I hit him instead.
mvandonsel - June 5, 2009
I don’t have earrings. So yeah
bigjoe - June 5, 2009
GOOD CALL!!!
Note to self, punch guy with earrings!
mvandonsel - June 5, 2009
Like I couldn’t take them out prior to the game.
royhobbs - June 5, 2009
No, you can't.
Once you go down that road, there’s no turning back.
…or at least, that’s what I heard.
MichaelProcton - June 5, 2009
It’s all good man, we will have a hella-good-time
mvandonsel - June 5, 2009
I ain’t no holla-back-gurl
royhobbs - June 5, 2009
Well, I went ahead about told my office I’d probably be leaving work around 1pm next Friday…so we’ll see.
Smoltz's Beard - June 5, 2009
This day cannot get any better. Hanson pitching Sunday means Hanson pitching Friday in Baltimore which is fucking awesome.
17843 - June 4, 2009
Watch your fucking mouth, sir.
sdp - June 4, 2009
yep ill be there
Doghnut - June 4, 2009
nice i have tickets for sunday
Jessero - June 4, 2009
no more rainouts. I already have plans to go to the game on Sunday. This works out beautifully!!
Sparhawk - June 4, 2009
figures the day its on a network i can watch, it gets rained out
Doghnut - June 4, 2009
The bright side...
is that I get to see JJ pitch tomorrow!
Ok, maybe that’s only a bright side for me…
Little Lady - June 4, 2009
me too
We’re taking my grandparents tonight for their first ever trip to Turner Field (my grandpa’s 87), and he was just saying the other day that he wished he could see Jurrjens pitch. I had told him it looked like Vazquez, so now he’ll be even more excited. It should be really fun tonight.
Although we were also going Saturday too because my wife gets tickets for doing the Baseball 101 thing Saturday morning. The Hanson debut was gonna be great to see, but oh well. I’ll root for him from the tv on Sunday.
10-4 - June 5, 2009
Hey
And we get to be there for McLouth’s debut, too!
[high five]
Little Lady - June 5, 2009
The stadium caught on fire when Mcgriff came and now a rain out when McGloven arrivves, maybe this is a good sign and he will start lighting up the scoreboard right away.
bravesrbaseball - June 5, 2009
McGloven!
gramsey712 - June 5, 2009
Well, Sunday baseball is on FSS.
Hanson vs. “The Wieters”?
Tim Goad - June 5, 2009
next week that is.
Tim Goad - June 5, 2009
This just sucks. I had bought tickets for Saturday night’s game to see Hanson debut, and I’m coming down from Tennessee. Guess I’ll just spend the night and go again on Sunday…
BigG1392 - June 5, 2009
looks like the Braves marketing ploy worked!
10-4 - June 5, 2009
Whew
This means I don’t have to pick up tickets for Saturday, and can enjoy that day without having to allocate time to driving to the park.
royhobbs - June 5, 2009
Also
Considering all the bullpen work with two days of extra innings, the rainout is a small rest day in disguise.
royhobbs - June 5, 2009
but the off day-now makeup date now sandwiched between the Red Sox and Yankees series might have been good for the bullpen.
10-4 - June 5, 2009
It's all good
I’m hoping that amongst Jurrjens, Hanson or Kawakami, one of them decides to go all Kyle Davies on the Yankees or Red Sox in their first outing against “the legends” and throws shutout ball to give the bullpen an unexpected day off. I can wish, right?
royhobbs - June 5, 2009
i was thinking the same thing. nothing worg with that! Maybe KK will pitch with his soul like he did against Halladay.
10-4 - June 5, 2009
Rain check
Mark Bowman indicated that a ticket from last night’s game is good for any upcoming home game, yet the Braves ticket website says it’s only good for the rescheduled game. What’s been your experience? Can I show up at a Red Sox game with last night’s ticket and get in?
KoKo the Monkey (T-Bone) - June 5, 2009
No
You have to take your ticket to the Future Games Ticket booth inside of Turner Field and talk with the reps there. Considering the hoopla they’re putting on the Red Sox and Yankees, I imagine those games are going to be blacked out, but you’ll probably be able to change your ticket to any equivalent value in the future, or make up the difference if you want to go with a “premium” (weekend) game.
Or you can just hold on to that ticket, and use it on June 22nd when the make up game is played.

Batting order and Nate's role
Soo I read somewhere that Nate the Great McLouth was set to bat in the 3 hole. I thought for sure we would use him in the leadoff spot and drop KJ down to 8th (where is a much better hitter).
What do you guys think? This is what it should look like with everyone healthy:
1. McLouth
2. Escobar
3. Jones
4. McCann
5. Anderson
6. Francoeur
7. Kotchman
8. Johnson
I know McLouth has power and drives in runs but he also can get on base and get around the pads much better than anyone else on the team. He hit in the leadoff spot for the Bucs in over 300 abs last year.
tdoublem23 - June 5, 2009
As soon as you switch Kelly and FYF in that order, I’ll jump on that bandwagon.
On the days Lowe, JJ and KK pitch, FYF should be hitting in the 9 hole, to make sure those guys get as many at-bats as possible.
Rhyno18 - June 5, 2009
As long as KJ is down in the order then i’m fine with it. I hate when hes at the top and stats show that he doesnt like it too much either. I know FYF is the most frustrating guy to watch play for the Braves, ever, but I like him at the 6 to break up the lefties.
tdoublem23 - June 5, 2009
I get your point, but is breaking up the lefties really worth it when time after time we see FYF come up with runners on base and fail?
Smoltz's Beard - June 5, 2009
Using FYF to break up the lefties? Let me take you through the mind of any other teams manager when looking at your proposed line-up from 3 on down to 6.
Rhyno18 - June 5, 2009
I don't think we'll know it's definitive...
Until Kotch is back.
