According to a Twitter post from Mark Bowman:
The Braves have placed reliever Jeff Bennett on the 15-day DL with a broken left hand. According to a source, he punched a door.
Nice. So he's not good at baseball and he's not that smart either. "Hey, let's use the part of my body that is my livelihood as a weapon."
Left-handed reliever Boone Logan replaces Bennett on the roster. He had a 3.28 ERA at Gwinnett, with a .205 BAA, and 39 strikeouts in 35.2 IP.
There's some minor league movement today as well, with RHP Jeff Lyman going from Mississippi to Gwinnett, and LHP Richard Sullivan going from the Beach to Mississippi, and getting the start tonight in place of Lyman.

LOL.

I'm glad I'm not the only one who litterally laughed out loud when I saw this.

Any chance it’s Luis Valdez?

I just updated the story, it’s Boone Logan.

well at least he didnt use his pitching hand, but i say GOOD RIDDANCE. that loser cost us enough games this year. he cant strand an inherited runner to save his life.
Slee - June 25, 2009
He's not a loser...
….he’s a very nice guy…a good guy. I would venture a guess that you don’t know the exact statistics on how may inherited runners he did or did not strand. I don’t know either, but I’m going to guess he stranded more than he let score.
sddbaker - June 25, 2009
plus...
It’s not like he ever got to come into a game that someone else hadn’t already screwed up….
sddbaker - June 25, 2009
Yeah, that’s not important apparently.
Smoltz's Beard - June 25, 2009
I wish it were his right hand...
then Bobby would have no excuse for ever pitching him in late innings close games!
cirela20 - June 25, 2009
oh....
you’re so nice!
sddbaker - June 26, 2009
It’s unfortunate, but if this is what it takes to get him out of the ‘pen, then maybe it’s the ol’, cliched, “blessing in disguise,” only without the disguise. He has been abysmal, giving up more hits/9 than any other pitcher on the active roster.

Kelly is..........well beyond being "due." He can't keep sucking at bat much longer.
Chief Noc-A-Homa - June 25, 2009
He’s channeling his inner 2008 Swisher.
VictorW - June 25, 2009
Oh, Don’t you know it’s just “bad luck”. This is hilarious to me, other players that are in a slump, or in this case worse don’t throw out the bad luck card. This is the craziest explanation that I have ever heard.
I ’ve watched KJ since his coming up and he has always been a streaky hitter, but this is the worse I have ever seen him.
Are we going to give him the entire season to get out of this long slump, or get some good luck, while he continues to cost us games?
I’m sorry about Bennett showing the entire world , that he not only throws stupid pitches but he’s also stupid off the mound!
I hope he heals quickly and goes on his way…
HEYJUDE - June 25, 2009
Yes, because that's what people say.
Just “he’s unlucky.” There’s no statsitical data that suggests that.
MichaelProcton - June 25, 2009
No statistical data? BABIP of .245, Career Low HR/FB, PrOPS of .738. Should I go on?
Part of it is Kelly himself sucking (less liners, less infield hits, more infield flies, career low P/PA), but part of it is bad luck too.
VictorW - June 26, 2009
I know that.
Above=sarcasm in response to the person who actually does believe that.
MichaelProcton - June 26, 2009
Less Bennett = More Acosta
He didn’t earn that nickname for nothing.
VictorW - June 25, 2009
This is the only thing I’ve been thinking about since I heard the news. Better stock up on booze.
Smoltz's Beard - June 25, 2009
I hate Manny Acosta with a passion, and I don’t know exactly why. I’ll be drinking heavily every time he comes into a game though, that’s for sure.
Rhyno18 - June 25, 2009
Can nobody confirm that Campillo is out for the year?
Chief Noc-A-Homa - June 25, 2009
OH, God No!
HEYJUDE - June 25, 2009
I’m excited to see Boone LOOGan up. That K/9 and BAA look pretty sharp. I have always thought we should carry two lefties in middle relief.
bbxxj - June 25, 2009
Hmmmm,,,
Are they sure there was no one else that could have been called up? Maybe someone who can strike people out and who isn’t limited to lefty matchups?
FineHamAbounds - June 25, 2009
Like the guy I mentioned at the very beginning of the thread?
Smoltz's Beard - June 25, 2009
wow, that headline jumped out the page and bitch-slapped me
at least he’s got the passion. now he needs to heal up, and worry about the pitching.
Chief Noc-A-Homa - June 25, 2009
Yeah, I do like Bennett as a player.
He is valuable to the team but just not in the situations he was used in. He needs to be the guy brought in to give you 3-4 innings if say the the pitcher gets hit in the head with a baseball or after a two hour rain delay. Medlen needs to be that second 7th inning guy or guy who comes in in late close games if Gonzo/Soriano can’t go.
bbxxj - June 25, 2009
And did Campillo really have season-ending surgery? Can anyone confirm that?!?!
Chief Noc-A-Homa - June 25, 2009
Why did we release Phil Stockman?
TradeAndruw - June 25, 2009
Because he was a pussy?
MichaelProcton - June 25, 2009
Per DOB's blog
“Bennett punched a door in a hallway adjacent to the dugout after the inning [Arod hit inning]. He said he was in such a state of frustration and anger that he couldn’t remember punching it, and could hardly believe it when he saw the dent and realized what he’d done.
The bone was broken cleanly and a bump rose beneath the skin. Bennett said he pushed the bone back, thinking that it was only a dislocated knuckle or something else.
He went back out and pitched the entire seventh inning with the broken bone, giving up a homer to Nick Swisher in that inning."
Dude pitched with a broken hand for an inning. Gota give him props for that at least.
bbxxj - June 25, 2009
Damn…he pitched pretty well that inning, too. Think he handed out a walk, but also had a nice strikeout to Jeter with RISP. Gotta give credit to Swish for hitting an opposite field homer.
Smoltz's Beard - June 25, 2009
I kinda feel bad for him, and at least he was showing some fire.
soup du jour - June 25, 2009
Wow
+1 for grit.
I always liked Bennett because he’s always just done his job without bitching. Spot starting, long relieving, getting dumped into critical sports, etc.

sddbaker - June 25, 2009
Agreed. He’s gotting alot of criticism on here, alot of it deserved, yet people are willing to give FYF as many chances as it takes. I don’t understand it.
Smoltz's Beard - June 25, 2009
Jeff Francoeur is only bad because he doesn’t have protection hitting behind him. Not his fault; it’s Schafer’s and the pitcher’s spot. But Jeff Bennett has all the protection in the world behind him in the bullpen (Gonzo, Raffy).
VictorW - June 25, 2009
wow, more layers added to the story
I love the guy’s personna, he’s just had the worst luck ever.
Chief Noc-A-Homa - June 25, 2009
Also per DOB
LINEUP:
1. McLouth
2. Prado, 2B
3. Chipper
4. McCann
5. Escobar
6. Anderson
7. Francoeur
8. Kotchman
9. Lowe
Escobar 5th and Prado at 2B. Certainly a change.
bbxxj - June 25, 2009
I like all of it

Smoltz's Beard - June 25, 2009
Over/Under on 2.5 double plays for Escobar?
VictorW - June 25, 2009
under, but only because he’ll come up with 2 out in an inning at least once.
Rhyno18 - June 25, 2009
Thank God. Maybe Bobby gets it now.
Chief Noc-A-Homa - June 25, 2009
He’s only playing Prado because of Petite.
TennKen - June 25, 2009
I was talking about Esco in the 5 spot
Sure, there mite be a double play, but the kid would do hella-better further down in the order.
Chief Noc-A-Homa - June 25, 2009
I've always wondered how Escobar would do outside the #1/2 hole
And now I finally get to see how he reacts. Not only that, but you got to like the balance down in the order with Yunel sliding down. Atleast I do.
RaffyGonzo - June 25, 2009
yes
Chief Noc-A-Homa - June 25, 2009
To all the people making excuses for Bennett, have you checked his stats? On-base against, anyone?
TennKen - June 25, 2009
His ERA is deceiving
His ERA wasn’t out of the park, but he’s let way too many inherited runners score this year. I can sympathize that he’s been put in tough spots, but that’s what the dude gets payed for. It wouldn’t be so bad if it had only happened a couple times this year because every pitcher is going to have a bad night. It just seems like whenever he comes in with runners in base, they score more often than he holds them. If he can’t keep those guys from scoring then it is Bobby and Frank’s jobs to find somebody that can. I’m sure he’s a nice guy, but in the end you get paid for what you do on the field, not how you act off the field.
AuditDawg - June 25, 2009
He’s allowing runners to get on base at a .416 clip. That’s all him.
TennKen - June 25, 2009
He gets paid to get other pitchers out of their messes?
At the minimum? Geez, you’re demanding.
MichaelProcton - June 25, 2009
Damn, I always find myself hating the Cardinals more and more. Way to get pwned by the Mutts, astroturds.
Chief Noc-A-Homa - June 25, 2009
Thank god. But Logan is going to be a mess.
bigjoe - June 25, 2009
What makes you say that?
TennKen - June 25, 2009
His major-league track record?
MichaelProcton - June 25, 2009
lol
Smoltz's Beard - June 26, 2009
I agree, if he has not improved since I watched him pitch several times in ST.
Both he and EOF were not consistent at that time.
I hope he has improved and pitches well for us…..but….
HEYJUDE - June 25, 2009
so what's the bad news?
nuftjedi - June 25, 2009
game over
another series lost. besides the nationals and the braves, they are the only 2 teams that can not win 4 games in a row. something got to give. we have played some 70 games and one 3 game winning streak.
no way - June 25, 2009
Hey at-least Logan gets a chance, Bennett sucks and LOL I am sure the door hit him head on just like many of the Bo-Sox and Yankees hitters; too bad Bennett did not see them coming at him.
Either way glad he is gone, and hopefully for good give me Carlyle or Campillo over Bennett any day.
Holty_Panthers_Fan - June 25, 2009
Just asking...
Since Bennett sucks and has consistently put up better ML numbers than Logan ever has…why exactly should we be excited about Logan’s “chance?”
MichaelProcton - June 26, 2009
Also...
Bennett has allowed hits to a grand total of THREE Boston and NYY hitters in his career. But I guess the word “many” is subjective to some.
