In his blog this evening, MLB and Braves beat writer Mark Bowman had this to say about Jeff Francoeur:
The Royals are watching Jeff Francoeur this weekend and there's still obviously a chance that Dayton Moore could be prompted to make a deal for the 25-year-old outfielder.
But to make this deal work, the Braves may need to be willing to assume the baggage and cost that Jose Guillen would bring. Guillen is making $12 million this season and he'll be owed and equal amount before his contract expires at the end of the 2010 season.
I can see KC being one of the more likely destinations for Frenchy, but the Braves wouldn't take on that Guillen contract in a million years. It's one thing to want to get rid of a guy who is under performing as badly as Francoeur is, but taking on a player like Guillen is not too much of an upgrade, and it's certainly not an improvement when his contract is condiered. For $12 million a year, the Braves could get a lot more out of the free agent or trade market than Jose Guillen.

Frenchy + prospects for Dejesus…They have both been struggling this year but we could get a true leadoff guy and give us more opportunities to use NM power at he #3 hole with chipper hitting cleaup.
But NOWAY the braves take on this dog of a contract!! I would rather have Mags or Lee contract than Guillen the head case.

The Braves need to quit playing as if they were contenders & trade some of these weak sisters for prospects. Since we have become such a budget minded team we have not been able to compete, always with major crashes in the 2nd Half after WE trade OUR prospects to help get someone who is not going to stay past year end. Turn it around & take a chance, there will soon be some desperate teams (with a chance) willing to trade.

Only reason im saying that is because we in actuality dont have a closer for the next few years and the FO might be trying to get a young one thats locked up for the next few years. From there they would prob deal one of the closers we have for a Bat. Pref Gonzo. However it would be sick to have all 3 in our BP.

Maybe you need to realize it hasn’t been discussed because Soria is one of the absolute best closers in the league, under team control until 2014, and is having some injury issues. None of the 3 players you proposed we trade for him could even be a fraction of how good he is RIGHT NOW.

I don’t think Bowman is suggesting a straight Francoeur for Guillen swap here, that would be absurd. I think any trade between these two teams would likely involve multiple pieces on each side but I don’t know KC’s needs enough to say what else we would be giving up.
