Ezekiel Spruill has been a little more hittable in his last few games than he was earlier in the season. Lets see if he can make the second half adjustments to bounce back into form.

Spruill needs to get that secondary stuff going because his K rate has gone to poop. 8.6 K/9 in April, 6.2 K/9 in May, 3 K in 11.1 in June. Ouch… Still probably a top 5 prospect for us, although I don’t know who I’d take right now given the choice between him or DeVall.
Gearrin had a nice outing pitching in his hometown so you know that had to be really cool for him. Hopefully, he’ll get another one or two chances to do that this year, though he may not even still be with Mississippi when they’re back in Chattanooga in August.
Marek has stopped sucking. 9 straight scoreless appearances… only 3 hits allowed in his last 10 innings.
And Venters isn’t very good. I wonder if in the ‘pen he’d be able to distinguish himself from Bueno, Gomez or Logan, because those three have all been pretty good.

Look at Brandon Jones flashing the power.

13 doubles and no homers son!

Hey, it’s better than no doubles and no homers…

Touche.

Even so, he’s still better than Atlanta’s regular starting corner outfielders.

Based on what, precisely?

The fact that he gets on base…

LOL @
your descriptions of the AAA and AA games. I’ve felt the exact same way ever since we called Medlen and The Phenom up from Gwinett a few weeks ago and sent Gorkys to Pissburg. The MB game is the one most of us rush to read about…and its an off day. bummer

Once Schafer starts playing again the Gwinnet club will my interest. The Mississippi team just doesn’t have anything until Heyward and Freeman get promoted.
Little Lady - June 19, 2009
Which seems less and less likely since Heyward missed a month and Freeman isn’t dominating.

he has been incredibly steady though. And a .350 BA over the last month is pretty solid.

I guess he’s been consistent since April. He started out in April with a .253 AVG, .313. OBP, .480 SLG, and .793 OPS, following that up in May with .333/.440/.405/.845 and doing great in June with .352/.410/.537/.947. So really, he’s getting better.
I guess I’d had the impression that he wasn’t dominating since his numbers didn’t seen as good as last year, but really they’re not that far off, 08 in Rome .316 AVG, .378 OPS, .521 SLG, and .899 OPS compared to .310/.389/.465/.854 this year. So he’s actually getting on a little better, but slugging a little less, though that seems like it’s all going to work itself out by the end of the year.
I still say, since both guys are only 19, there’s not much chance of either getting a promotion, aside from a few weeks at the end of the year like Heyward did last year.

Now that Heyward is back...
And Freeman has been playing better, they’ll really take off.
Little Lady - June 19, 2009
The most interesting farm team at this point is probably myrtle beach, but I like seeing the Delgados and DeVall pitch for Rome
