Hey look! A one-run road loss. The opposing pitcher hit the decisive homerun. The Braves were 0-for-9 with runners in scoring position. The losing streak hits four -- it's not June unless the Braves have a losing streak. That's really all you need to know about this game.

The baseball gods are cracking up right now
McLouth almost hit one out in the 1st that baaaaaaaaaaaaarely went foul (ugh)
~
Frenchy had some hustle in his step with that triple (AND WE COULDN’T GET HIM OVER WITH NO OUTS)
………only the fucking Braves.

Now can we start to say it’s time for the fire sale. Let’s get rid of half of this team and stock up for the future.
Fischerking - June 18, 2009
Nope, not yet.
soup du jour - June 18, 2009
Yeah, not yet. We should know by the end of the month though.

I’ve tried to stay optimistic, but the situation is starting to look bleak. If the Braves get crushed in this upcoming series of games against the Sawx and Yanks, then I’ll be ready to throw in the towel. I don’t know that a wholesale fire sale is needed, but I’d like to at least see the following:
- get rid of Kelly Johnson and Jeff Francoeur for whatever prospects you can get
- release (or trade if for some insane reason some other team wants him) Anderson
- offer generous 2 year extensions to Gonzalez and Soriano but if they decline, trade them for prospects
- send Medlen down to AAA…he’ll improve more pitching in Gwinnett’s rotation regularly than as Atlanta’s long man
- send Moylan down to AAA…he was rushed back from TJ surgery and needs time to regain his form
- see if you can trade Vasquez for a good outfield bat that will still be around in 2010

We get punked by the pitcher. Unbelievable. This is your prototypical Braves game from the past 3 seasons.
soup du jour - June 18, 2009
I mean, it's not like the kid is a bum at the plate.
MichaelProcton - June 18, 2009
I remember him killing on the mound and at the plate us last year in Atlanta…
Hopefully Chipper is out of his slump with 2 games of decent hitting (4 for 7).
Cap'n Eddie - June 18, 2009
I realize that, but its still the pitcher. That’s like letting this year’s Norton beat you…sure he can hit the ball a bit, but a pitcher like Vasquez should get him out in that situation.
soup du jour - June 18, 2009
Can’t argue that point.
Cap'n Eddie - June 18, 2009
Fair...
But I don’t really think you can consider him a pitcher as a hitter. He darn near got converted to the OF this year.
MichaelProcton - June 18, 2009
Bench Kelly / Put in Martini
Kelly’s slump is getting pathetic
(If Martini had played last night, my guess is we would have WON)

lineups posted...
better right-handed lineup and good to see mccann getting some much needed rest:
Lineups
Braves (30 – 34)
4th in NL East
Season Stats | Roster | Tickets
Reds (33 – 31)
3rd in NL Central
Season Stats | Roster | Tickets
Starting Lineup
Season | Against Opposing Pitcher
1. N McLouth, CF
2. Y Escobar, SS
3. C Jones, 3B
4. M Diaz, LF
5. M Prado, 2B
6. J Francoeur, RF
7. C Kotchman, 1B
8. D Ross, C
9. T Hanson, P
David Ross should be in the 4 hole and everyone else should slide down. besides that, i dont mind this lineup. it’s probably the best it can be for a day game.
ryan c - June 18, 2009
2.68 FIP with a 6.22 K/BB and he’s 4-6…unreal
Smoltz's Beard - June 18, 2009
Exactly
We should “sell high” on this guy and get some prospects who might be able to help this team win in 2015. Who cares if he’s the 4th best pitcher in the NL and signed for this year and next at a paltry $11.5M!
While we’re at it, lets dump KJ for one bad year (that isn’t over yet) vs. 2 productive ones. He’s clearly on the decline. Besides, that’ $2.8M we’ll save will undoubtedly be enough to get someone at least as good as Chase Utley to replace him.
With those moves made, we’ll easily be able to go the 60-38 it will take to get to 90 wins and a decent shot at the playoffs. This Braves team is right in the thick of it!
fphjr01 - June 18, 2009
Yeah, because most prospects have a 6-year ETA.
MichaelProcton - June 18, 2009
Not the point I was trying to make…at all.
Smoltz's Beard - June 18, 2009
Ha, nevermind. I get your point.
Smoltz's Beard - June 18, 2009
sssssssssssh
careful what you say around here — you never know how it will get interpreted!
fphjr01 - June 18, 2009
well played
