Atlanta Braves Minor League Recap: 5/4

Syracuse 1, Gwinnett 4

  • V. Pope 1-2 2 RBI, BB, K
  • T. Redmond 8IP 3H 0R 0BB 7K

Not a whole lot of offense to be had in this game, with even Pete Orr going hitless for Syracuse. I can't imagine how Redmond kepy him at bay all game. Redmond has become the forgotten man among Braves pitching farmhands and I guess he could end up as trade bait here in the next year or so unless we just keep him around to fill a Buddy Carlyle role.

Montgomery 3, Mississippi 1 -  Game 1 (7 Innings)

  • G. Hernandez 1-3 SB(7)
  • K. Kaaihue 1-2 HR(3)
  • S. Diamond 6IP 8H 2R 3BB 8K

Not much offense in this one for the Braves. I like Kala Kaaihue but he just hasn't been able to build upon a solid 2008 season and put together that breakout season that his brother did last year at the same age. Diamond is another guy we forget about but is solid most of the times he goes out there.

Montgomery 6, Mississippi 5 - Game 2

  • W. Cabrera 2-4 RBI
  • K. Kaaihue 2-3 2B, 2 RBI, BB, K

The Braves tried to come back in the bottom of the 7th but fell just short. Another solid game for Kaaihue on the day. Hernandez also tallied two hits in this one.

Myrtle Beach 0, Lynchburg 4

  • J. Heyward 1-4 2B, SB(1)
  • C. Johnson 1-3 2K, SB(3)
  • R. Sullivan 7IP 5H 4R 0BB 4K

I am pretty sure I said in the third or fourth recap this season that Sullivan would get called up quick. I am smart. Remember this. I did not say he would be awesome. But he wasn't horrible. Its also good to see Heyward hitting as well as he is (his AVG is only .275 but his OPS is .839). They have him playing DH right now so as to not stress his hammy anymore. Freeman has been pretty bad lately though and I am a little worried at this point.

For some reason, I’m thinking that Kaaihue is a pretty slow starter or rather has started slowly the past couple of years. I’m not certain that it matters though, he and/or his brother could both put up .500/.800/2.000 lines with 75 homeruns and no one will give them a job. I mean if the Royals, with their offense and payroll, won’t give his brother a shot after the numbers he put last year…something isn’t right.

Quick question

Anyone know why Rohrbough has only made one start so far? Looking through Myrtle Beach’s pitching stats and there are 5 other guys who have made several starts (including Cordier who has made 3). Just curious…

Rohrbough got hurt and had to go back to Orlando to get healthy. The same thing with Chad Rodgers.
