Gwinnett 2, Syracuse 1 - Finaly 10 Innings
Man we have had some pretty great starts this week from our minor league pitchers. It sucks that Redmond couldn't get the win out of this but at least the team pulled it out. Luis Valdez picked up his 10th Save of the season and has only allowed runs in two games this season. I suspect we will see him in Atlanta about 3 seconds after the next meltdown.
Mississippi 5, Birmingham 4
Eric Campbell is slowly climbing his way back to mediocrity. I honestly wouldn't be surprised to see him smashing the ball next month simply because he doesn't work much in the off season, so he takes 2 months to get into playing shape. He still isn't hitting for much power, but he's a really nice guy so I am rooting for him real hard.
Myrtle Beach 6, Wilmington 8
Jeff Locke? More like John Locke, cause he looked lost out there tonight! (Anyone get that?) Anyways, Locke's rough month got a little worse tonight as he couldn't make it out of the 1st inning. I pray nothing is wrong with him. On the flip side, Donell Linares has posted a .779 OPS this month and has only 9 strike outs in 173 ABs. Someone get him on the phone with Jordan Schafer now! Freddie Freeman has hit no homers on the month but hit .341 with a .438 OBP. Quite impressive for the kid. Cody Johnson was actually better this month than last adding .024 to his OPS and continuing his baseball jihad. I don't know what is up with Jason Heyward other than maybe he just takes a series off every now and then.
Rome 11, Bowling Green 2
Keep an eye on Calvin Culver. He is off to a hot start in Rome and is a toolsy OF that we picked up late in the 2008 draft. If I remember correctly he came from a third tier college in California and no one was sure how good he really was. He is only 20 at this point and hasn't put his tools to good use yet, but they are there. Braeden Schlehuber also hit a homer in this game, his first of the season. Schlehuber's bat is supposed to be pretty good but so far he hasn't impressed. Luckily Rome has another catcher hitting .340.

Culver is someone that has firmly captured my attention in his first few games. I’m definitely interested to see what he does over the course of the season.
Speaking of ‘08 draftees, what’s the word on Adam Milligan? Is he going to start with Danville?

“toolsy” OFs capture my attention too.
Culver is listed at 6’2" 220 lbs and was in 6th slot in order and CF for Rome’s game yestersday.
So far this season, has played in only 11 games, has .333 avg in 39 ABs, with 4 2Bs and 1 HR.
Last season, after being picked in 26th round, had 218 ABs in Gulf Coast League, .252 avg, with 14 2Bs, 4 3Bs and 2 HRs.

Someone was playing the “Who could we have drafted” game with Francoeur… How about with Campbell… Wade Davis or Adam Lind would be nice.

I think yondaime was bein sarcastic about Campbell bein a nice guy. Because all i have ever heard about Campbell is how he is a prick and stuff like that i dont think i have ever heard one person talk good about Campbell character so i just assumed yondaime was bein sarcastic, but sometimes its hard to tell who is and who isn’t bein sarcastic.

He probably was. I’m sure Campbell is probably a fine person and that his friends like him. But I don’t know any of them.

Locke gave up those 7 runs with 2 out. 4 hits, 2 HBP, and 2 BBs. He is really struggling. Heyward has a tweaked hamstring. He sniffles and they set him down. They are not taking any chances with him. Last year, someone came on another Braves board who claimed to be a relative of Culver. He said that we had a steal and that Culver was a doubles machine with very good defense. He was kinda ignored because no one had heard of him. May be something to Mr. Culver. Braves have several nice OFers behind our big three but they get very little attention.

I think it’s an oblique injury to Heyward. That’s just what I’ve heard.
