Jair Jurrjens goes against Jon Garland tonight and hopefully we can get to Garland early. There were rumors about us picking up Garland in the offseason but they never happened, thank God. He is sporting a 4.70 ERA with more walks than strike outs on the season (21:20 in 53 innings). Jair has been our best pitcher so far this season but I can't help but wonder when he is going to come back down to earth. His peripherals don't really support his ERA at this point. I'm not complaining and the kid is young and very good, but I get the feeling he has been a little lucky so far this season.
I don't even know what to say about the offense anymore. Most of the Braves have only faced Garland once (and none of the regulars have done well) but he is pretty terrible so maybe we can get something off of him. We need to get in here and take the last two games of this series. Right now we are a game under .500 and we are only 3.5 out of first place. If we can make a couple of pickups here soon it won't be too late to make a run. Lets just hope something is in the works.

IS it normal to keep watching this over and over and over and over
Cammando2317 - May 29, 2009
No.
You need therapy.

I think...
You’re thinking of Lizziebeth.
Little Lady - May 29, 2009
Purely a technical question….are we allowed to post animated gifs?

It’s Gonzo’s bling.

TC favorite Luke Scott is pulverizing Dontrelle Willis tonight.
bigjoe - May 29, 2009
Its Dontrelle Willis
Zeus12888 - May 29, 2009
But its 2 HRs…
Tim Goad - May 29, 2009
Mets & Marlins tied at 1 going into the 9th…Calero just got out of a bases loaded jam. Phils up 5-4 on the Nats in the 7th, bases loaded 1 out for Philly

Mayberry strikes out on a NASTY hook

So close Bobby…you just have to rearrange THREE PLAYERS
bigjoe - May 29, 2009
if esco is back why isnt he leading off?
bpk228480 - May 29, 2009
Only logic I can offer is that maybe Bobby wants to get him comfortable in the lineup before he gets him comfortable in the leadoff slot
bigjoe - May 29, 2009
Before my beverage kicks in too much.....
I’d like to post and say how much I appreciate the Open Game Threads.
As someone who can’t offer up stats off the top of my head, know the ins/outs of the minor league teams and the nuances of the matchups each game…I appreciate a place I can come and experience the game with others across the country real time, as the game is happening.
I enjoy sharing the frustration when we’re doing poorly and celebrating with abandon on every RBI, HR, great defensive play and/or strikeout by our pitchers.
I don’t participate much in the fanposts and wouldn’t dare start one for fear of being carved up by the fans who know much more than I – so I appreciate this unique type of forum to enjoy the games.
Now….

NCChopper - May 29, 2009
the nahwal predictions are fun too
Bravely going forward - May 29, 2009
You’re welcome.
bigjoe - May 29, 2009
Absolutely! I love trying my hand at good guessing on those.
NCChopper - May 29, 2009
You are currently in a tie for 47th place overall. Considering its out of 127, you’re almost in the upper third
bigjoe - May 29, 2009
Aww bigjoe, if I didn’t know better, I’d think you were flirting with me LOL.
But seriously, thanks for the info….never knew I was closing in on .500 :-)
NCChopper - May 29, 2009
i completely agree with you…its taken my braves fandom to a whole new level
bpk228480 - May 29, 2009
Well said…..I feel the same NCChopper!
HEYJUDE - May 29, 2009
Jair
i am beginning to suspect that Jair is just a pitcher whose peripherals are always going to look worse then his hard data. Looking back at him with the tigers minor leagues neither scouts, nor stat heads were raving about him. He was a throw-in in the renteria trade and a back end of 100 lists at the time. Please note, i think he is not going to keep a 2.07 era, but he isn’t going to balloon up to the 4’s where his peripherals say he should be.
heapofoatmeal - May 29, 2009
His FIP is actually 3.74, which is quite serviceable for a 3 in this day and age
bigjoe - May 29, 2009
Jair should have at least six wins if our offense was even decent. I understand why Burnett and Peavy didn’t want to come here.
BigG1392 - May 29, 2009
So yeah. We really need to win this one tonight.
BigG1392 - May 29, 2009
Is everyone having a good Wieters Day? I got a haircut. It was awesome.

bpk228480 - May 29, 2009
Wieters isnt gonna be anywhere near as good as Frenchy. He worries about making smart throws and his OPS too much.
Tim Goad - May 29, 2009
ahhh shit
Bravely going forward - May 29, 2009
Oh my god. We got a break?? No
BigG1392 - May 29, 2009

Maybe as the Phils and Mets games end, they’ll add this feed.
NCChopper - May 29, 2009
Fuck Matt Wieters, Joe Mauer is 3/4 with a triple and 2 baserunners nailed. Awesome.

i’ve bid on some eddie mathews ones, but lost every time. my father in law has several, including mantle.
10-4 - May 29, 2009
Yeah, when I was at the HOF, it was a year before Mantle died, so he obviously wasn’t at the autograph session…there were 2 sessions, mine had Berra, Spahn (though I didn’t get a card from him cuz he was a mean old man), Killebrew, Musial, Brooks Robinson among others.
bigjoe - May 29, 2009
nice.
i do have a spahn auto psa certified that i won awhile back. its just a sheet of paper in a graded case.

I don’t like high change ups JJ
MatM - May 29, 2009
Well, at least we’ve got Klutchman coming up… maybe he can get a hit. Oh but then Frenchy and Schafer would just K so it doesn’t matter.
BigG1392 - May 29, 2009
He’s not gonna get any pitches to hit

Rhyno18 - May 29, 2009
More walks than strikeouts
Could you IMAGINE if we signed him instead of Kawakami?
bigjoe - May 29, 2009
yeah, but think about how much fun it would have been to sign neither of them, or Anderson but have Dunn in LF. sigh

Zeus12888 - May 29, 2009
i think we can now blame the four game losing streak on him!

We definitely missed him.
BigG1392 - May 29, 2009
We can do more with the lineup with him in there. When you have someone like Diory, theres a lot less flexibility

especially with Frenchy in the lineup.

bigjoe - May 29, 2009
Holy shit! Wil Ledezma! Ryan Langerhans!
bigjoe - May 29, 2009
Damn when this team scores they score in bunches.
rockybull - May 29, 2009

Zeus12888 - May 29, 2009
He does this huge uppercut like he is Apollo Creed
royhobbs - May 29, 2009

Zeus12888 - May 29, 2009

rockybull - May 29, 2009

Gamecast plays ads between innings? So gay
bigjoe - May 29, 2009
Gamecast fails hard this year
Rhyno18 - May 29, 2009
Could you imagine that shit in an office?
bigjoe - May 29, 2009
since when does gamecast play commercials between innings?
Im pretty sure its all dependent on how much game changing you do…
Tim Goad - May 29, 2009
I’ve gotten 2 ads, and have had it open for one full inning.
bigjoe - May 29, 2009
thats not normal…at least not for me…ive watched several innings before.
Tim Goad - May 29, 2009
Nice, every man in the lineup has a hit
Zeus12888 - May 29, 2009
These Wendy’s commercials want me to avoid the restaurant as opposed to getting a COFFEE! TOFFEE! TWISTED! FROSTY!
bigjoe - May 29, 2009
wendy’s only value is in the Baconator and just your normal chocolate frosty.
Tim Goad - May 29, 2009
Amen.

Most “spicy” items arent spicy anymore.
The Volcano Taco at TB is mildly hot, but ive had so much hot stuff in my life that its nothing.

Why doesnt GA deserve No.18?
Tim Goad - May 29, 2009
that number should have been retired with the great Ryan Klesko
Rhyno18 - May 29, 2009
Klesko was really good, but GA was way better than Klesko at their peak points.
Tim Goad - May 29, 2009
Hogwash.

like I give a shit what GA was 10 years ago with Cali-Ana-Orange County.

Rhyno18 - May 29, 2009
Should we care?
Zeus12888 - May 29, 2009
depends on if you follow what the other teams in the NL East do or not
Rhyno18 - May 29, 2009

Zeus12888 - May 29, 2009

more. He’s just touching his potential.
fandave - May 29, 2009
I dont know man he isn’t a homer hitter though so i say 20 is his limit but i mean great as long as he keeps his AVG and OBP high and great defense 8-20 homers is fine with me.

+100
NCChopper - May 29, 2009
you’re way too liberal with your points.
10-4 - May 29, 2009
I agreed strongly. +1 seemed inadequate.
Love your signature btw.
NCChopper - May 29, 2009
Yeah
Think of it like a strip club. You can’t just walk in throwing $100’s at everyone every time they show a little skin, or make a comment. You make em work for it, a 1 here, a 5 there. Granted, the 1’s won’t get you noticed very often, sometimes flat-out ignored. By the same token, if you go around constantly giving 100’s, everyone gets used to it, to the point where you try to give a 5, and the
strippercommenter is calling you a cheapskate and showing you the door.10-4 - May 29, 2009
Hmmm, in contemplating the complexity of this reply….I’d have to conclude that we should save our +100s for those things we feel strongly about and toss in the usual +1s when it’s appropriate.
However, if I were to say, own a stripper pole – would it let me post +100 whenever I wanted?
Just askin’.
NCChopper - May 29, 2009
lol
Lizziebeth - May 30, 2009
in theory, if you owned the pole, you would only be allowed to receive points.
Sidebar: I was once in a strip club for a bachelor party (Cheetah i believe), sat down at the bar. in a minute, an older guy comes up and tells me i’m in his seat. I was pretty drunk, and my only response was “you didn’t call seatback.” He then went on about how he comes there all the time (because he’s awesome). After jawing back and forth, the bartender takes his side, and i had to move. Thats what happens when you only give +1’s.
10-4 - May 30, 2009
Oh, the Cheetah.
royhobbs - May 30, 2009
I feel I’m at a definite disadvantage in this discussion because I’ve never been employed at or patronized a strip club. Hell, I’ve never even been to a Hooters. I’ve got the anatomy, but the savvy skills of bar seat negotiations are beyond my experience.
Thus, I’m gonna have to post my +1s. +100s in the future as the situations arise and suffer the consequences if need be.
I appreciate your attempts to help clarify and personal knowledge of establishments named after predator felines from Africa, but it may all just be beyond my comprehension.

BullManUGA - May 29, 2009
Jesus Bobby, Moylan sucks
Zeus12888 - May 30, 2009
I remember Moylan’s debut year. He was actually a 3/4 delivery guy, and sucked. In 2007 they said “go back to what brought you to the dance,” and he ended up posting like a 1.87 ERA. Looks like people are trying to change him again, with the same disastrous results.

I think so.
BullManUGA - May 30, 2009
Professional groundout.
BullManUGA - May 30, 2009
another professional groundout
Rhyno18 - May 30, 2009
Garrett will not hit more than 10 HR’s this year
get swoll yunel - May 30, 2009
I’m not sure he’ll stumble into 3 at this point
Rhyno18 - May 30, 2009
It’s hard to hit homers in the majors when you’re released on May 31st. crosses fingers
BullManUGA - May 30, 2009
The problem is they pay him like 2.5+ million… I just don’t see it happening.
get swoll yunel - May 30, 2009
They’ve flushed that money down the toilet whether he’s on the team or not.
BullManUGA - May 30, 2009
haha
I just found out UGA DESTROYED Ohio St in the regionals.
Those fuckers can’t beat the SEC in anything.
get swoll yunel - May 30, 2009
It was epic. The game ended on a double play. RF catches the ball on a slide and the guy on 2nd didn’t bother to tag up, just ran when the ball was hit.
BullManUGA - May 30, 2009
Look at it this way – cut Francoeur, eat the $3.75MM, and bring in Brandon Jones for the pro-rated league minimum ($475k). At the end of the year when Bjones puts up the average numbers, it looks like $4MM went towards an average right fielder. That’s far better than saying you spent $3.75MM on the worst player in baseball.
royhobbs - May 30, 2009
Preach it, brother.
B Jones has shown 0 power thus far, but goddamn we know the guy can have a good at bat. That’s all I’m asking at this point.
get swoll yunel - May 30, 2009
He may have 0 power, but you’re going to have a hard time admitting that you’d still prefer to have Failcoeur over him.
royhobbs - May 30, 2009
No dude, I am 100% on board.
I’ve been wanting to DFA/assign to the minors Failcouer for quite some time now… and B Jones will get on base, that much I know.
Hell, I was trying to talk myself into David Delluci (recently released) and Matt Murton (wasting away at AAA) over Failcouer.
get swoll yunel - May 30, 2009
Don’t forget, Swagga bothers to make these catches…
Lizziebeth - May 30, 2009
And how long before the 1st?
NCChopper - May 30, 2009
Soriano has one of the goofiest goatees I’ve ever seen.
Those Dominicans…
get swoll yunel - May 30, 2009
Bobby must think gliding won’t cut it if he’s bringing in Matty.
10-4 - May 30, 2009
TIGER UPPERCUT
royhobbs - May 30, 2009
I was thinking more like “FATALITY!”
Rhyno18 - May 30, 2009
ump is awesome
Rhyno18 - May 30, 2009
Tom Hallion is my favorite. I swear to Pujols, I want to be an honorary team captain when the umpire crew has Tom Hallion on it.
royhobbs - May 30, 2009
GA would have glided to that and been in the dugout before the umpire could call him out.
10-4 - May 30, 2009
I just imagine Anderson riding around on one of those hover-skateboards from Back to the Future 2

10-4 - May 30, 2009
Well Garrett is on water right now.
BullManUGA - May 30, 2009

Hey, we’re only 6 years away from flying cars and hoverboards! i think those shoes are already here.

Butterfly in the sky...
He can glide twice as high.
Take a look.
Give him the hook.
Garrett sucks balls!
BullManUGA - May 30, 2009

Nite Rhyno18.
I’m hanging in tonight, first night all week I don’t have an early alarm.

Holy shit at the mustache. Either his wife hates him/is blind, or he never gets laid.

He’s a ballplayer, with a $475 league minimum
he get laid
royhobbs - May 30, 2009
i hate that, because its true.
10-4 - May 30, 2009
I love the logic
it used to be minimum wage times 100,000. If that were still the case, it would be like $625,000

Zeus12888 - May 30, 2009
What else? People arguing on the internet. Namely their facebook page that they pimp 34 times per half inning
royhobbs - May 30, 2009
And complain when people ask stupid questions.
BullManUGA - May 30, 2009
They were talking about how much Failcouer sucks, and Boog pointed out how he saw a stat (on said site) that said FYF swung at the most first pitches last year (I believe that’s what happened, I’m a little drunk).
Boog is a fucking nerd.

The strike 3, I mean…

Actually a really good curve that froze Schafer

I don’t think it’s shiny enough.

pretty nasty curve that looked like it caught some plate.

Still say Schaf needs to get some more ABs in the minors.
Can we have Janderson back, please?

Gonzo is always money in non-one run games, so I feel OK.
He’ll probably allow a double though.
get swoll yunel - May 30, 2009
uh-oh. I hear gonzo’s stalker screaming.

Little Lady - May 30, 2009
i thought it was just the one guy on 3 different threads.
10-4 - May 30, 2009
Someone thought a picture I put up was hers on another website. I guess it’s because our “names” both start with L.
No se.
Little Lady - May 30, 2009
Really? wtf.
I called LT’s attention to it, giving all credit to you, but otherwise I have no knowledge of this misappropriation of credit. Let me know what site and I’ll try to get it fixed. I’d never take credit for someone else’s work. That’s….just fuckling wrong.
Lizziebeth - May 30, 2009
Ok, I was all confused ‘cause I went to Braves Love, since LT was the only person I told about it (but I know how Jo loves Coach), and saw where she credited you for it. But now I just read the comments, and I see where she said she incorrectly originally posted it as mine. If your email is on here, I can send you the original email I sent her clearly giving you all credit for it (and I mean in true journalistic form like I was taught in skool) – I def don’t want you going around thinking I would take credit for something that’s not mine. I got so upset about it I misspelled ’fucking" in my post above!
So sorry that got twisted like that.
Lizziebeth - May 30, 2009
No, no, no!!
I’m not mad at all! I just think it’s funny! She probably had a brainfart and wrote your name instead of mine. Don’t worry about it.

BullManUGA - May 30, 2009

LOL Andruw
Texted Chipper after his 4K game to welcome him to the club. Way to drop ballast on Chipper there.

Can we bring Andruw back? Texas doesn’t have much need for him…
