Well that was a fun game to be at. I have to say I have never seen a game delayed for rain when there wasn't any rain. The field crew had the tarp on the field at the start of the game even though there hadn't been any rain at all. Javier Vazquez was absolutely brilliant after the first two hitters. The Diamondbacks just could not make solid contact against him last for most of the game, or no contact at all in a lot of cases. Our offense only had one extra base hit for the game (Chipper's homer) but got the hits when they mattered at the end. I am still not sure I woudn't rather see Soriano in there closing out the games at the end of the night.

Great game. Great pitching, Good offense (thanks Chip!) and Great defense.
This is how you win a shitload of games.
~ Party on.

nice

These are exactly the games we would lose the last few years.

No doubt.

I was following the end of the game on GameTracker, and initially missed the homer by Drew in the 9th. Good to see us push across a run in the bottom of the inning to win it, but I’d have much preferred we didn’t have to bat in the 9th. But eaheckman10 is right; last year, this is a game we would have lost.

I was so confused when they had the tarp on the field. The sky was blue and there were just a couple of clouds. I’m really glad that there wasn’t a long delay. Every game I’ve been to this year has had a delay.
It was a very well-played game. And I’m really glad we have Jordan Schafer in center.

Good start
to the home stand. A sweep would be a nice change of pace.Glad to see Schafer contributing to the win w/his bat in the 10th. Maybe this will give him a boost of needed confidence. Shame Javy couldn’t get the win due to the blown save. 10 K’s deserves a win. I’m sure Gonzo feels like crap.Chipper backs up his players/pre-game meeting w/his stick. That’s a leader for ya. Good overall win. Still leaving too many men on base.

and by the "10th" you mean the "9th"...
I know you’re trying to keep us on our toes, but nothing gets past us.

I stand corrected
and humbled.

Difference between this year and last year…last year, if Gonzo gave up a game tying homer, I’d be fucking pissed and knew we wouldn’t win. Last night, I was kinda apathetic and knew we’d win. Huuuuuuuuuuuuuge difference in those 2 scenarios

I felt the same way. Last year I would have turned off the game and went to bed pissed. For some reason, I had a feeling we had a comeback. It’s kind of like how you feel some games when you’re only up by one run, but you know they are going to win.

I kind of like switching between Soriano and Gonzalez based on match ups (I’m not sure that’s actually what Bobby is doing but sometimes it seems like it). I don’t have enough confidence in Soriano’s health to want to rely on him as the exclusive closer. It would help of course if Mike Gonzalez would stop giving up 9th inning homers!

Wondering if Gonzo’s getting over-used? I know he had the night before off, but it was an issue that came up in the last series when he blew that save, then went away after he redeemed himself the next night. Not sure what to do about it even if he is, other than end some more games with bigger leads and no save opportunity so the guy can just relax in the ’pen and throw hang loose signs to drunk guys yelling how awesome he is from the outfield seats.
I need to get to more games.
