You know I am looking at this box score and there is literally nothing to get excited about. The Braves tallied 3 hits and had 4 errors. It is a sad day indeed when your errors are higher than your hits. Todd Redmond got knocked around in this one giving up 6 runs in 3.1 innings all coming off homers (a Grand Slam in the 3rd and back to back jobs in the 4th).
Tennessee 5, Mississippi 2
Scott Diamond gave up 13 hits in 6 innings. That won't get it done. Gorkys Hernandez is hitting almost .340 for the season now. His OBP is .403 but his SLG is only .420. He needs to harness his speed a little better as well since he has only swiped 7/11 bases this season. But still, he is quietly having a nice season. Trade bait? Gondeee thinks so.
Myrtle Beach 4, Kinston 5
Should we be worried about Heyward? No I don't think so. It seems he is maintaining his plate discipline and thats what you have to watch for when guys go into slums. Cody Johnson however has raised his BA up to .280 on the season. He is on pace for just under 200K (if you assume 500AB) and 75 BB for the season. Acceptable? I don't know but I like that .988 OPS.
Lexington 2, Rome 3
Finally one of these teams got a win tonight. This was David Francis' first start of the season and he appears to be happy back starting. At leas that is what his numbers say. He hasn't allowed a run in his last 3 outings and I wouldn't be surprised to see him do the same thing as Richard Sullivan. Remember Francis is the guy that struck out 16 batters in 6 innings last year.

I don’t think we should even consider trading Gorkys. He should be our left fielder next year. It’s not easy finding lead-off hitters that get on base like he does and can steal 50 bases in a season. He’s exactly the type of hitter our line-up currently lacks. That and a big power hitter of course (Heyward soon). And what would we trade him for? We don’t need pitching. Our infield seems set for now.

you can always use more pitching. And I am not saying we will trade him, but he is excellent trade bait if we need anything. I would throw him in a package for a power bat if I could. But it just depends on what we could get.

Who knows, if Schafer flops the whole season he could be our CF next year. I dont know how well his DEF compares to Schafer but i have read he is pretty good in the field and speed doesnt hurt that

I'm not wild about trading Gorkys...
If Heyward isn’t here already by next year, and I’m not putting that past him, I think Hernandez would be in our OF. And I’m not convinced even then that as soon as next year we might not be better served to just get rid of Francoeur. From the looks of things Jeff might, might maybe be a .300 hitter with some doubles power. Realistically though, he’s just a corner outfielder who will probably serve up one of the emptiest .280 batting averages around. That’s just not all that useful. Unless he really starts to show some pop or patience that he hasn’t shown so far this year; then I’m about done with the Francoeur experiment. I know Jeff’s a nice guy, and a local dude, but that doesn’t win ballgames.
IMO an outfield of Gorkys in center, and Schafer and Heyward in the corners is going to give us the best chances to win over the next several years. We’ll have one of the best defensive outfields in the game, and coupled with our plus pitching that goes a long ways. Look at what Tampa Bay was successful with last year.
Also, Cody Johnson is not nice to baseballs… I’ve never been at once so excited and pessimistic about a prospects chances of succeeding.

I see the issues with him, but I’m all about Cody Johnson. The dude hit two more bombs today. It’s unreal what he can do. We haven’t had a prospect with this kind of power since Klesko. Or maybe Mike Hessman…
