The inaugural Gwinnett Braves opening day roster will be:
PITCHERS (11): Manny Acosta (RH), Francisley Bueno (LH), Mariano Gomez (LH), Vladimir Nunez (RH), Jo-Jo Reyes (LH), Tommy Hanson (RH), Boone Logan (LH), Kris Medlen (RH), James Parr (RH), Todd Redmond (RH) and Luis Valdez (RH) CATCHERS (2): J.C. Boscan and Alvin Colina INFIELDERS (6): Barbaro Canizares, Brooks Conrad, Diory Hernandez, J.C. Holt, Van Pope and Wes Timmons OUTFIELDERS: (4): Gregor Blanco, Joe Borchard, Reid Gorecki and Brandon Jones
Not too many surprises. It's good to see Van Pope make it to triple-A. I'm guessing the rotation will be Reyes, Hanson, Medlen, Parr, and Redmond. This should be a pretty good team.

Corky Miller
Not sure if this is right place to post but Corky Miller, Corky “Freaking” Miller made the White Sox roster. “The Hamster” got another major league job. Not sure who he has pictures of but must be pretty good.

Gwinnett’s second series of the season is in Durham. I’m trying to work it out so I can go down on the day that Hanson pitches. It’d be nice if he was number 2 in the rotation, since that’s what David Price is for Durham. I’d say a d David Price/Tommy Hanson matchup would be a baseball fan’s wet dream.
cbwilk - April 5, 2009
Not to drink the kool aid or anything
But that looks like a good matchup for game one of the WS in 2011
Weldon - April 5, 2009
Wonder how many major league teams would straight up trade their entire starting rotation for the GBraves’.
fandave - April 5, 2009
Gwinnett could finish ahead of the Nats in the NL East!! The future looks bright
mwchipper - April 5, 2009
There are some MLB teams that would like that roster.
kalesi - April 5, 2009
Such as?

bwellnjonesco - April 7, 2009
So they're only starting with 23?
timmy3 - April 5, 2009
They’re only allowed to have 23. They get to expand to 25 at some point in August.
cbwilk - April 5, 2009
Good call. I knew that, but had forgotten it.
timmy3 - April 5, 2009
Can somone correct my rosterbation problem?
CF 1. Blanco
3B 2. Timmons / Pope
LF 3. Jones
RF 4. Borchard
1B 5. Canizares
2B 6. Conrad / Holt
SS 7. Hernandez
C 8. Boscan / Colina
1. Hanson
2. Reyes
3. Medlin
4. Parr
5. Redmond
Pen: Have no idea?
CL Acosta
SU Bueno
LO Logan
MR Gomez
MR Nunez
MR Valdez
Seriously, does that look remotely correct?
bbxxj - April 5, 2009
I think Redmond would be a lot higher in the rotation.
bigjoe - April 5, 2009
lol...
I think a five game series against the Nats would be an epic battle.
MatM - April 5, 2009
My guess:
CF 1. Blanco
2B 2. Conrad
LF 3. Jones
1B 4. Cannizares
RF 5. Borchard
SS 6. Hernandez
DH 7. Timmons
3B 8. Pope
C 9. Colina
They DH a ton in the IL since there are so many AL affiliates. I’d guess Gorecki will get a fair amount of playing time too.
1. Reyes
2. Hanson
3. Parr
4 Redmond
5. Medlen
Pen: Have no idea?
CL Nunez
SU Acosta
SU Logan
RP Bueno
RP Valdez
RP Gomez
cbwilk - April 6, 2009
Logan is gonna be one lonely english speaker in that bullpen. He probably will never know what the hell is going on down there.

That’s one sorry ass looking infield IMHO.
KC Ryan - April 5, 2009
Who gets the boot when Morton comes back?
KC Ryan - April 5, 2009
Probably Medlin
sdp - April 5, 2009
I doubt Medlen(you may be joking because of the misspelling lol)
I think transitioning Medlen to the bullpen is what they would do, and Nunez or Bueno would be the guy I dumped. Also, I think bbxj has the line-up/order pretty accurate, but I would order the pitching differently.
1. Hanson
2. Reyes
3. Redmond
4. Medlen
5. Parr
CL: Acosta
SU: Valdez
LO: Logan/Gomez
MR: Bueno
MR: Nunez
MatM - April 5, 2009
I think they are grooming Valdez to close.

Whoops...
Didn’t realize I misspelled.

Rome Braves Release Roster
Here it is, partly. Not worthy of a front-pager.
gondeee - April 5, 2009
Anyone else surprised that Sumoza isn’t starting the season at the Beach?
KC Ryan - April 5, 2009
No.
cbwilk - April 6, 2009
I didn’t realize how young he is. I bet he gets promoted at some point this year when Heyward gets sent up to Mississippi.
KC Ryan - April 6, 2009
Full Rome roster
Here
Well, at least we get Jacob Thompson, David Francis, and Zeke Spruill
secondbass - April 5, 2009
The pitching staff in Rome looks pretty impressive. Lots of good prospects.
KC Ryan - April 5, 2009
Definitely. Getting to see Spruill, Thompson, Sullivan, Francis, Delgado, Clemens, and Hoover should be nice for the folks down there.
Interesting that Adam Coe isn’t on any of the rosters. I guess they brought in this guy Barba to play 3B. Apparently he’s got experience at High A with the Brewers.
On paper, the offense isn’t as impressive at last year with Freeman, Heyward, and Johnson, but Schlehuber looks pretty good, and Sumoza and Shehan both have a ton of potential. I love LV Ware, he could be a pretty dynamic leadoff hitter.
cbwilk - April 6, 2009
I have high hopes for Ware but he was a bit underwhelming last year.
KC Ryan - April 6, 2009
I don’t know if I’d go with underwhelming, maybe unspectacular. He hit pretty well, but not with a lot of pop, and he did strike out too much and walk too little. But, he stole a few bases and was a team leader. I think he’s a lot more impressive in person than on paper.
cbwilk - April 6, 2009
Any idea what happened to Adam Coe? I can’t find him on any Braves or MiLB roster. Was he released?
mickyM - April 7, 2009
He wasn’t on the transactions list yesterday, so maybe he just hurt and staying in extended ST. But, I wouldn’t be surprised if he got released.
cbwilk - April 7, 2009
You know what’s up when it comes to this kind of thing, so I have a question: what is your best source for transactions, both MLB and MiLB? I’ve been looking all over the place and I can’t find one I can rely on. I know it’ll take checking out more than one on a regular basis; I’m just looking to be pointed in the right direction.
Thanks.
VegasAces - April 7, 2009
You’re right, you pretty much have to check a lot of places. Every Monday Baseball America puts up the weekly minor league transactions. I check ESPN and MLB and USA Today pretty regularly. And MiLB has come a long way, their league transactions are incredibly up to date now.
cbwilk - April 7, 2009
Good times. I had all of those on my list save for MiLB, which I’ll add to the rotation. Seems stupid that I never checked there, but what can I say. Thanks again.
VegasAces - April 7, 2009
Before last season that wouldn’t have been stupid at all. They were horrible about transactions. I’d go to games all the time and there’d be 2 or 3 guys who I didn’t know were there (which is incredibly frustrating when I have their cards at home, hours away). Then, all of the sudden, they got good.
cbwilk - April 7, 2009
Who the hell is gonna play if they released their entire roster?
10-4 - April 5, 2009
any idea??
new to talking chop and I don’t keep up with the minor league teams that much, who would ya’ll think might be pitching the home opener april 17?
gritzblitz - April 6, 2009
It looks like it’s the 9th game of the season, which makes it the 4th spot in the rotation, so, depending on whose prediction you go with, it could be Medlen, Redmond, or Parr.
cbwilk - April 6, 2009
