Gwinnett - Off Day
Mississippi 5, West Tenn 6
Scott Diamond's run at AA hasn't been going well the past couple of starts as in this one he gave up 4 runs in 5IP. Granted all 4 runs came in one innings and 3 of them off of one homer. but still. Get it in gear kid. Phil Britton is surpring me a little. I wonder when he will come back down to earth. He needs to get some power in that bat though.
Lynchburg 5, Myrtle Beach 4
Freeman flashes a little power in this game, though not much else. It is good to see him carry his power over from last season though. Cody Johnson doubled his number of singles for the year in just one night but the team as a whole went 0-7 with RISP. Can't win games if you don't take advantage of the opportunities. And as you can see Eric Cordier takes another step back from his injuries. He could be valuable if he ever get healed. Heyward sat out his third game in the last week. I don't know what the deal is but he had a tendency to do this last year too. Anyone know what is up?
Augusta 9, Rome 5
Rodriguez continues to make this league his bitch. Pardon the French. He is slugging to the tune of .652 right now. Problem is he only has 4 BB against 69 AB. Also 17K which I could forgive if he walked more. He looks like he might put together some kind of season like Ernesto Mejia did last year (for those that don't know Mejia was the 1B for Myrtle Beach last year who had 74 XBH on the season and 12 straight games at one point with an XBH but he posted a 28:139 BB:K rate). I hope he can keep it up all year just because it will be fun to watch.

I noticed that Josh Fields, who the Braves drafted in 07 but where unable to sign, won the game for the Diamond Jaxx against Mississippi. After looking a little further into it, I noticed he won the game after blowing a save in the top of the 9th, only to have the Diamond Jaxx win in the bottom of the 9th when a runner scored from 3rd on a Phil Britton passed ball. So that’s awesome.

He’s just holding a place for the catching prospects on the way behind him. I’m sure he was jumping for joy when Flowers got traded though.

Flowers is definitely killing the ball for Birmingham...
Hitting .314/.444/.588 and is third in the league in OPS right now.

I think we dodged a bullet
Fields seems like a major douche. Or he’s really not smart. Either way, you don’t want to invest a ton of money in someone with one or both of those traits.

Yeah, I’m fine with him not being a Brave. Anybody willing to wait out two drafts and almost make it to a third is probably both a major douche and a dummy.

Could Gerry Rodriguez play third?
I’m just wondering, I know he used to play catcher and he’s not really that big of a guy for a 1B, so I was just wondering what the thoughts were in regards to his glove/arm sticking over there. Because, with someone two years younger ahead of him, it’s kind of hard for him to make an impact at first.

I don’t see why he couldn’t, he seems athletic enough to play over there. My only concern is that he hasn’t. It seems like if you’re gonna move a guy from catcher that if you think he can play 3rd, you’d put hm there before trying him out at 1st. So that might be an indication that he can’t.
Another thing is, the Braves signed Rodriguez never really expecting to get much out of him, so everything he’s done is a bonus. I don’t think he really places high in their plans, either at first or anywhere else.
