Braves' McCann Still Not Seeing Clearly

Brian McCann told reporters after last night's game that he needs some time to adjust to the new contact lens that corrected his vision. He doesn't believe he will miss more than a week. David Ross will assume the catching responsibilities in his absence.

"He says he sees perfectly today," Cox said before the game. "It's just about driven him crazy for a couple of weeks now. We're not going to let him go out there unless he's 100 percent."

It shouldn't be hard to underscore just how important good eyesight is in baseball, not only for a hitter, but especially for the everyday catcher. We need McCann. I hope he gets back in there soon.

I noticed he couldn’t see in yesterdays game he didnt take really any aggressive cuts. He needs to get that fixed asap we need his offense, and his control of the pitching staff.

Those eyes

Really freak me out

Eyes...

As someone with a long history of eye troubles, this has me pretty concerned for Heap.

He certainly didn’t look all that comfortable yesterday – the TV cameras kept zooming in, and he was squinting and blinking an awful lot for someone who said “perfect” prior to the game.

If he’s going to do a couple games, that’s fine, but if he needs more time, I’d suggest the 14-day DL, and bring someone up in his absence, because as a batter with a bad eye, he’s going to be useless. Eyes I don’t mess around with, and I’ve had to use several eye drops, and various contact lenses to get to some semblance of normalcy. Hopefully this isn’t the case, but I had to settle with an antibiotic drop that contained a steroid to help with my own eyes.

I’d rather have Heap miss some time and then have an assured McCann coming back to the lineup, rather than someone who is day-to-day who will have questionable at-bats and jeopardize the team as a whole.

Interesting…I thought McCann looked pretty good last night. He took two 2-out walks (the pitcher didn’t give him much to hit, but he still wasn’t hacking away) and I recall him hitting a line drive right at the 2B.

I guess the main issue would be with picking up the spin on the ball, so he would still be right on the fastballs but have trouble picking up the breaking stuff like he usually can.

Thank god for this new AP deal.

hmm

I’m a bit puzzled at how he could play last night with the new contacts but now he needs a week off.

just DL him and bring up sammons, its not like the braves can play any worse than they are now

Didn't

he have Lasik surgery a few off seasons ago?

Yes, but people sometimes need it twice. The eyes will change.

Just get him talking with somebody who can fix this for him, and us. WE NEED MCCANN (for all reasons previously stated)

I don’t see anything in that article about him saying that he’ll miss a week, just that he might sit out tonight’s game.

If he actually needed a week to adjust to the contact, I have to think they’d just tell him to go ahead and have the LASIK, the recovery time for that isn’t even a week.

Seeing...

is a big thing, especially for big leaguers. The eyes are very important…

-Rob Dibble talking about Brian McCann during last nights game.

Dibble makes me want to punch a puppy

Rob Dibble makes me want to punch Rob Dibble.

ugh…I must have missed that gem.

Mac

May have been seeing perfectly before the game in daylight hours But we all know night time hours change our vision, add the lights and his vision could have been compromised.
I just hope he gets this problem resolved because we need him in the line up!

psssst......That God we've got David and Clint in the wings, and not Corky. lol

Get well soon Mac!

.........Thank............THANK God. Can I get an edit button? I'm retarded. lol
