From K-Ros:
The Braves talked with the Dodgers about a trade for Jason Repko, but opted against trading a pitching prospect for a spare outfielder at a time when they appear ready to commit to Jordan Schafer in center field.
"Almost, but not quite," one major-league source said when asked about the discussions.
Repko, a right-handed hitter, could have platooned with Schafer or Gregor Blanco, both of whom hit from the left side.
The teams could revisit the possibility later.
Repko reminds me of a Mark Kotsay-lite type player. I really hope they don't put another obstacle in front of Jordan Schafer. I guess the team is getting scared about having too many left-handers in the lineup.

Interesting
I am guessing straight up for B.Jones?I think this is probably more of a sign that Schaffer is gonna win the spot and play more, in that Repko is a righty and more suitable for a bench player role than Jones.

It says it was a pitching prospect not hitting prospect.

I can’t imagine it would have required much of a prospect.

probably just Hanson and LH clone of him.

When did Kevin Towers take over as the Dodgers’ GM?

As a guy who lives in LA and goes to several Dodger games… I hope I never ever ever have to see Jason Repko in a Braves uniform.
Please, God, no.

Jason Repko
Does Wren and Cox reall want to form a platoon in center as well? And why waste a roster spot for Repko when you could use the versatile Omar Infante when a dominant lefty is starting (i.e. Santana, Hamels, Perez at times).
ChipperTeixeira89 - April 2, 2009
Because Repko is a substantially better fielder than Infante, especially in CF.

...why?
FineHamAbounds - April 2, 2009
If FW were concerned about too many lefties
Why did he sign G. Anderson?
buzzdeadwax - April 2, 2009
You’re making an awful lot of sense over there, calm down
Smoltz's Beard - April 2, 2009
and if he was that unconcerned about being concerned about having too many lefties then why not put a flyer on Dunn when he was around. Unless we were just out of monies.
yondaime4 - April 3, 2009
Pujols!!!
We should have traded for Pujols.
justincredubil02 - April 3, 2009
It had to be the money, because nothing else makes any sense. To me, you either go all the way and get the best hitter available (Dunn), or you go with the cost-effective/high-ish upside option (B. Jones/Blanco/Diaz platoon).

I remember seeing him playing for Wilmington in 01 when he was a shortstop. Nice guy, but why would they do this? I guess they wouldn’t, but still…

Kirkland?
Did the Braves pick up Cody Kirkland from Detroit as a backup 3B prospect? Looks like he got into the game today.
JimK - April 2, 2009
Yeah, I saw him in Minor League camp when I was there.
cbwilk - April 3, 2009
WTF would we even do with him? We have like 6 OF on the roster
bigjoe - April 2, 2009
I swear, our FO makes decisions via dartboard.
Lennox - April 2, 2009
I am pretty sure
that this article says that they DIDNT make the deal…
justincredubil02 - April 2, 2009
And?
It’s still a nonsensical option for them to have been pursuing.
Lennox - April 3, 2009
did we approach them
or did we listen to their offer?
justincredubil02 - April 3, 2009
Maybe they make decisions like Congress did on South Park last week.
