Gwinnett 3, Durham 0
Not a lot of offense as the AAA club beats uber-prospect David Price by allowing only three hits between Vladimir Nunez, Boone Logan, Francisley Bueno and Mariano Gomez. We also had a rare sighting of Van Pope in this game with three whole hits! Gwinnett moves to 4-4 on the season.
Mississippi 3, Huntsville 4
Gorkys Hernandez has a double in three straight games (which isn't close to matching Ernesto Mejia's 12 game XBH run last season) and seems to be fully healthy. Some people around here think he is trade bait. Those people are fools! He has 5:6 BB:K rate so far this season which is an improvement so far over years past. Scott Diamond was solid though his walks are up in his first two starts this year. I'll attribute it to knocking off some rust at this point. Mississippi is 2-6 thus far.
Frederick 7, Myrtle Beach 4
Heyward put together and excellent game in this one and four of his nine hits this season have gone for extra bases. Craig Kimbrel has been Boyer-esque so far this season giving up runs in every one of his appearances so far. He has allowed eight runs and walks in 4.2 innings pitched so far. Either he is hurt or last year was a fluke.
Charleston 7, Rome 2 Final 10 Inn.
Well Samuel Sime answered my my lone criticism by getting a couple doubles tonight and lowering his AVG to .571. Jake Thompson was lights out and I really don't think he'll be in Rome for real long having been a college pitcher. David Francis was very bad.

Kimbrel had a little bit of a situation with his arm in the offseason, so that might be what’s affecting him. Or, he could just be sucking right now.
Gwinnett made some moves, placing Diory Hernandez on the DL (he got hurt sliding into second yesterday) and adding Clint Sammons from Atlanta as well as Jerome Gamble and Antonio Perez from Mississippi. Perez is new the organization, playing in the majors previously with the Rays, Dodgers, and Athletics.

Sime
Why do you keep calling him a “non-prospect”?

He’ll be 22 in a few days, is repeating low A ball, and doesn’t really have an outstanding skill set. That being said, he was the GCL’s MVP in 07 and, if he plays well, there’s plenty of room to move up as a 3B in our system.
