Hot off the presses, here is a media advisory from the Atlanta Braves organization:
Atlanta Braves left-handed pitcher Tom Glavine will be evaluated by Dr. James Andrews in Birmingham, Ala., on Wednesday, April 15. Glavine, who signed a one-year contract with the Braves in January, experienced some discomfort in his left shoulder during his rehabilitation start yesterday (April 12) at Mississippi (AA) and was removed from the game in the third inning during his warm-up pitches as a precaution. Glavine underwent surgery by Dr. Andrews on August 21, 2008 in Birmingham, to repair a torn flexor tendon in his left elbow.
Glavine has been scratched from his scheduled start on Saturday, April 18 at Pittsburgh. He will be replaced by left-handed pitcher Jo-Jo Reyes, who will be recalled from the Gwinnett Braves (AAA) for his start on Saturday.
I speculated earlier that Glavine would be skipped as a precaution, and now that precaution looks like dire news. Funny that he had discomfort in his shoulder, but now it's perhaps his elbow that is really the problem.

Oh he’s fucking done. Hang the 47 up on the facade, its all over, thanks for playing Tom, we have some lovely parting gifts for you.

Glad it is Jo Jo
… let’s not bust out the TH arb clock one week into the season.
FrankyWren - April 13, 2009
This. I’m so happy I get to see ONE of my boys this weekend. Maybe Anderson’s calf will be more serious than expected and he’ll be put on the DL…
bigjoe - April 13, 2009
yeah, i think i might be hopping on the bjones bandwagon
any way i could be VP of the fanclub?
heap16 - April 13, 2009
At least he’s only costing us 1 mil.
TradeAndruw - April 13, 2009
I think....
not sure, but I think, if he retires we would not owe him the money.
sddbaker - April 13, 2009
Pretty sure the 1 mill is his base, there are incentives that he wouldn’t reach if he retired.
bigjoe - April 13, 2009
“At least he’s only costing us Ohman.”
Fixed.
Lennox - April 13, 2009
Just for the record
Wren had no interest in Ohman after November. We withdrew the offer from Ohman after we picked O’Flaherty off of waivers and traded for Boone Logan. So no, Glavine did not cost us Ohman.
Weldon - April 14, 2009
Yes, he did.
Or, more to the point, Wren deciding that O’Fucerty and Logan were the answer in the ’pen and stopping his pursuit of Ohman and spending money on Anderson and Glavine are all interconnected decisions.
Lennox - April 14, 2009
i think that if ur gonna be a smartass and make a pun out of a name u have to do the same to the other name
I dont know how u would insult the name Logan…but just some food for thought…and no reflection of the actual argument urself
Swo12bv - April 14, 2009
I really shouldn't keep replying to this, it's really old..
But DOB reported that Wren withdrew the offer in November. That’s just a fact. The decisions are only interconnected in that Wren had the money to sign Anderson because Ohman didn’t take the contract.
Weldon - April 14, 2009
Yes
He obviously withdrew the offer to Ohman because he was planning to spend that money elsewhere. Whether he new specifically or not, at the time, that he was going to use it on Glavine and Anderson is irrelevant. It was a bad choice, that we’re seeing evidenced now.
Instead of offering Garret and Glavine contracts, he could’ve easily come back and made a new offer to Ohman. He choose not to. So, yes, Glavine (and Anderson) are costing us a quality LHP in the bullpen and contributing nothing to the team.
Lennox - April 14, 2009
Oh man.
Should’ve signed Ohman
QUYET - April 13, 2009
Ohman's own fault for not taking the offer on the table most of the winter
VictorW - April 13, 2009
And....
according to things I’ve read, he preferred the west coast.
RainDelay - April 13, 2009
If I could have bought stock in Glavine visiting Dr. Andrews before April 30th....
… I would have loaded up in the preseason. However that stock would probably have been trading for around $1,000 a share, because I think we all pretty much saw this coming
Sid Bream's Moustache - April 13, 2009
Hope it works out Tom
Hopefully JoJo has his good stuff on Saturday.
Chief Noc-A-Homa - April 13, 2009
God, let’s hope so. I’m excited to see JoJo get another crack at the bigs after a lights out spring.
Zeus12888 - April 13, 2009
Color me not excited..
…about Jo-Jo being called up. Yes, he was ‘lights out’ this spring, but common that doesn’t mean a thing. He’s proven to be mediocre at best at the Major League level.
RainDelay - April 13, 2009
He was the shit for about 5 minutes....
….then he turned to shit. Maybe he got it back, though?
Chief Noc-A-Homa - April 13, 2009
Im optimistic. I mean, if he blows, we’ve got Charlie and Tommy waiting in the wings, and boy have both of them impressed in AAA this year.
Zeus12888 - April 13, 2009
For me
I would say this is Jo-Jo’s last chance. He dominates the minor leagues, but age be damned, can’t translate it at the Major League level. I want to see him succeed, but if he throws up another meltown-like streak of starts, I’m all for giving him his “change of scenery,” even if he goes all Kyle Davies and starts succeeding elsewhere, because that would be great for his career.
royhobbs - April 14, 2009
Speaking of Tom Glavine
Did anybody just see Pelfrey fall over himself while pitching? haha, funny stuff. Go Padres!!!
Chief Noc-A-Homa - April 13, 2009
For the triple post....
Bump the Mets. 4-1 Padres
Chief Noc-A-Homa - April 13, 2009
WOW. did I say 4-1?
It’s 4-0. Where the hell are my glasses? lol
Chief Noc-A-Homa - April 13, 2009
eh, now its 4-1
Zeus12888 - April 13, 2009
dammit!
jinxed them!
LilNoles - April 13, 2009
depth
Let’s just hope Jo-Jo’s spring success accompanies him to Turner Field this year. I think he could be due for a breakthrough at the major league level.
It’s good to have some pitching depth options, eh?
beeswax - April 13, 2009
He's got the stuff. No question. It just seems to elude him.
Chief Noc-A-Homa - April 13, 2009
or eldu him…if u will
lizziebeth where u at?
Swo12bv - April 14, 2009
Question
If Jo Jo is activated then who gets sent down?
mikie baseball - April 13, 2009
Whoever was going to be sent down when Glavine was activated. Probably one of the 3 long relievers we inexplicably carried into the season.
Lennox - April 13, 2009

BTW… not such a flattering pic of Tommy Boy on the cover page right now. I’ve got tons of love for Glavine, but he looks 70 there.

HA. TRY THIS ONE
Chief Noc-A-Homa - April 13, 2009
lmao. i give up. copy and paste if you want. it works that way
Chief Noc-A-Homa - April 13, 2009
plus, Citi Field is cursed, so...
haha. the Mets are fucked. The last time the Mets were contenders was 1986. Word?
Chief Noc-A-Homa - April 13, 2009
Didn’t the Mets win the pennant in 2000?
bigjoe - April 14, 2009
And they did contend for it the last two years.
Euruproktos - April 14, 2009
Nick Swisher just pitched a scoreless 8th inning for the Yankees, giving up only 1 hit and registering a strikeout. And to think all you people who argued with me when I said we should trade for him. He could be helping us out plenty!
Swisher > Boyer
Smoltz's Beard - April 13, 2009
Swisher was lights out o shit ……… I say we trade Anderson, Frenchy and give them Boyer so we can get Swisher. This is just a joke for the people who take things tooooooo serious.
That a boy - April 13, 2009
Heck ... Swisher even has more strikeouts
Boyer: 0
Swisher: 1
FrankyWren - April 13, 2009
Did you pick him up the other night??? FANTASY POINTS!!
mvandonsel - April 14, 2009
i think batters should only get the numerical stats for pitching…liek Swisher’s strike out and (had it happened) W or S or Hold…should count
similarly I should get credit fro Gallardo’s three run home run last week…but should not be penalized by his low avg or ops
Swo12bv - April 14, 2009
No, I was swayed by the majority in the game thread…he hit a bomb last night, too.
Smoltz's Beard - April 14, 2009
yeah, i was one of the ones that said not too, i’m sorry. the really jacked up thing is like a day later i picked him up in one of my other leagues!
mvandonsel - April 14, 2009
I wonder........
If most of you who don’t want to see Jo-Jo will act the same way toward Tommy if he comes up and puts up a 5+ ERA his first 2 seasons?
Jay212033 - April 14, 2009
Yes. That would happen. For good reason, too.
Sentences are for schmucks
Euruproktos - April 14, 2009
JOJO can only improve.
Glavine can only decline.
bigjoe - April 14, 2009
I think the Tommy he's talking about ....
Is Hanson.
Lennox - April 14, 2009
We know.
