Braves Making the Team Meter: Pitchers Week 2

Week two of Braves camp and all is well. No major injuries, no major problems, and some good and eagerly awaited performances. For reference, here is the week one pitchers MTM.

Player, PositionChanceNotes
Manny Acosta, RHP
Good work in the early going. He will likely fly under the radar all spring.
Jeff Bennett, RHP
With a good outing and a bad outing let's hope he's working the kinks out.
Blaine Boyer, RHP
Worked his way in and out of trouble in his first appearance.
Francisley Bueno, LHP
A couple of surprisingly good innings from Frank Good.
Jorge Campillo, RHP
He had a tough first outing, but he was apparently working on throwing his fastball more.
Buddy Carlyle, RHP
Terrific first outing from Buddy. His flexibility is a nice luxury to have.
Rafael Cruz, RHP
A heavy-set right-hander who is a bit of a mystery, but can bring it in the mid-to-upper-90s.
Emiliano Fruto, RHP
Nothing too impressive early on.
Mariano Gomez, LHP
Great first outing.
Tommy Hanson, RHP
I still just can't get over how TALL he is and how much leverage he gets off the mound. Oh, and he was throwing 99 mph in his first spring appearance -- exciting.
Anthony Lerew, RHP
He got pretty roughed up his first time out, looks like a long road back.
Boone Logan, LHP
Looks good in the early going.
Stephen Marek, RHP
He's picking up right where he left off during the AFL.
Kris Medlen, RHP
He pitched around a couple of walks in his inning of work. The Braves are starting him off in the bullpen, I wonder how long he will stay there.
Charlie Morton, RHP
A strained muscle early in camp has set him back a bit.
Peter Moylan, RHP
So far so good with one scoreless and pain-free inning.
Eric O'Flaherty, LHP
He had a tough first outing, but it's best to get those out of the way early. His second outing was better.
James Parr, RHP
A good first outing, but remember that his two scoreless innings came at the end of the game against other rookie-types.
Juan Perez, LHP
Took the loss in game one.
Todd Redmond, RHP
Nice inning of work from the youngster.
Jo-Jo Reyes, LHP
His first outing was good, and his second outing was even better as he handled the Phillies tough lineup... is he finally figuring it out?
Jeff Ridgway, LHP
Got hit pretty hard on Sunday... that won't bode well with all the competition for the LOOGY spot.
Rafael Soriano, RHP
Apparently his velocity is back, though he hasn't gotten into a game yet.
Phil Stockman, RHP
He's taller than Tommy Hanson, and it's about time he got a chance to open with the club.
Luis Valdez, RHP
He's been a bit too walk-happy and wild so far.
Arrow Key:
= Chance of making the team is even.
= Chance of making the team is going down.
= Chance of making the team is going up.

The hitters MTM will be up tomorrow.

I am glad to see the Braves have a lot of depth in pitching.

Kind of curious to see if they don’t put Lerew on the 60 day DL to make room for Glavine. If they put him on it now, he could do the 30 day rehab in April and then they could make the decision on what to do with him.

latest from peanut...

what does this mean?
“The past two years, they had been forced to assign Jeff Francoeur’s salary by unilaterally renewing his contract”

It means he wouldn’t do the multi-year extension that they offered and so he ended up having to take what a guy who isn’t arbitration eligible has to take based on time of service.

Why do you indicate that some pitchers had great outings but can’t make the rotation?
i.e., Gomez, and Merek.
Does Medlen, Stockman, or Redman have much of a chance?

redmond. please never speak the name that makes my dog weak up in a cold sweat howling about pathetic pitching, tons of walks, and a starting pitcher who gave us no shot to win.

im in the second stage of recovery, accepting that he happened, but not liking that he ever existed.

Stockman

This guys has to make the team this year. I know he was hurt, but look at his numbers the past couple of years. For some reason, Bobby just doesn’t like this guy. But the numbers don’t lie.
I say, YES!! Stockman should be in Atlanta on opening day.

I agree

I would like to know if anything happened between him and Bobby. Otherwise I don’t understand why he never pitches.

YES

I agree. I will be pissed if we lose him to somebody else for nothing and then he puts up an ERA under 2.

Frankie Good

Francisley has a great change up and I’m telling you are overlooking his chance to make the team

Where is Vlad Nunez? He looked pretty good in Dunedin against the Blue Jays. I was at the game by the way. Anyone else there at the game on Sat?
