Win, win, win, win, win. Man! I really hope that our spring is a sign of how the Braves will play during the regular season. Even half as good and we'll be pretty good.
It's time to break out the Ken Kawakami song tonight as he tries to rebound from a couple of rough outings in a row.
Kawakami was scratched from his start with right shoulder fatigue. Javier Vazquez gets the start instead.

just so everyone knows...
AJC’s David O’Brien reported less than an hour ago:
“Bobby said if it was reg-season game, Kawakami would’ve definitely pitched. Kawakami said he’s got no concern at all, that his shoulder was fine today when they did the same strength test that showed some weakness or fatigue yesterday. They think it might have been caused from throwing too much in the ‘pen before he was tested yesterday.”
Bravely going forward - March 19, 2009
Doubtful.
That sounds like nonsense to me. If this were truly they case they would have mentioned it yesterday and not today. They canceled an entire intrasquad game because of this.
BenDuronio - March 19, 2009
How
Could they mention it yesterday when they did the “same strength test” today? Maybe they have a time portal like on Star Trek.

How many Red Sox spring training games are MLB Network going to broadcast?
……….the world, may never know. And hey, I think the Braves are playing a game tonight. You know, that team with the record of 14-3. I hate the Red Sox, and really don’t care if “everybody likes them.”
But hey, it’s fitting enough. The 3 clubs that get 97% of the publicity are the Yankees, Red Sox, and the Cubs (lol, for whatever reason.) Here’s a headline for ya….
CUBS SIGN 4 YEAR EXTENSION TO STAY OUT OF WORLD SERIES!!!!
….it’s true. I read about it a few months ago.

Lizziebeth - March 19, 2009
I agree
I’m liking Jim Powell, too.
Little Lady - March 19, 2009
He does sound good, but I wonder
if he’s too polished for this broadcast team. Ah, well, I’m sure the other guys will wear off on him.
Lizziebeth - March 19, 2009
Or...
he could rub off on Chip Caray. I wouldn’t mind that.
As long as it isn’t the other way around with that tandem.
Little Lady - March 19, 2009
Oops...
Meant to reply to Lizziebeth. My bad, yo!
Little Lady - March 19, 2009
Oh, yea, we could only hope something would improve Chip. Ugh.
Lizziebeth - March 19, 2009
A good smack to the ole noggin certainly wouldn’t hurt.
Little Lady - March 19, 2009
Oh sweet
I like your style!

Little Lady - March 19, 2009
Ha ha. It did sound like a great play.
Lizziebeth - March 19, 2009
Go Braves
Good win.
Little Lady - March 19, 2009
I’m having the feeling that this year might be exactly the opposite of the norm for Javier Vazquez-bad peripherals, but with a nice ERA for a change.
It would be nice, if frustrating.
Bronn - March 19, 2009
Who the heck is Jerome Gamble (other the the guy who got the save tonight)?
Tokyokie - March 19, 2009
He’s a 29 year old right hander who pitched for the Red Sox in the minors from 98 to 04, getting as his as AA. He then pitched a season of AA for the Brewers before getting hurt and missing all of 06. He came back to Indy ball in 07 and then signed with the Braves before 08. He was mostly with Mississippi, but did spend some time with Richmond.
He was once considered something of a prospect, but his gas was taken away by the surgery, and at this point he’s a veteran roster filler. He’s valuable as a swingman and he’s a smart guy who has no problem taking younger players under his wing. Deunte Heath has especially benefited from his presence.
I’d say he’s not very likely to ever play for Atlanta, but guys like this can get hot and find themselves in a major league bullpen.
cbwilk - March 19, 2009
Meh.
Man, I wish you actually knew something about baseball. :)
I still wear a straight bill on my hat
mvandonsel - March 20, 2009
cbwilk, Thanks for the information. Sounds like a good guy to have in the organization. I tried clicking on his name in the boxscore, and nothing came up.
Tokyokie - March 20, 2009
Yeah, sometimes you bring in vets and they’re just looking out for themselves, but Jerome really seems to be interested in helping the younger guys. Seems like he’s angling for a coaching job when his playing days are up.
