2009 Player Previews

Spring training is almost here, it's almost pitchers and catchers (it's about frickin' time). What we normally do this time of year is preview each player to see what we can expect from them in the coming season. This year I thought I'd get the Talking Chop readers to help me with the write-ups for each player. As much as I know you'd love to hear my blathering about each and every Brave, I rather bring in a diverse assessment of the players for the front page story.

If you are interested in doing a preview write-up for a particular player or players, then go to the bottom of the site and click on the little envelope next to my name, and send me an email with the subject line "Player Preview." In the e-mail, include the top-3 Braves you would like to review from the 40-man roster and your Talking Chop username. Don't write anything yet, if you are chosen I'll email you back with your assignment and an outline of what I would like covered. The turnaround time can be anywhere from one day to two weeks, the important part being that the writeup is a good one.

I, of course, reserve the right to final editing on your piece before I post it to the front page. It also helps to be at least a semi-regular, so I know who you are. If you have a blog of your own, please include a link to that as well.

Kelly Johnson is the key to the Braves offense in 2009.

With All-stars McCann, and Chipper leading the way with as the most consistent hitters on the team, and Escobar emerging as a potential star, Kelly Johnson is the Key to the Braves offense in 2009. You just can’t count on Francouer to bounce back to his 2007 form, he is a 265, 25, 80 at best next year( Mixed with a lot of strike outs and almost no walks).Johnson has always been a good hitter throughout his Braves career, but has never been able to put together his break-out season (Injuries, playing at Bobby’s 2 favorite platooning positions LF and 2B). Braves insiders know he is capable of a 300 average, 25 HR, 90 RBI, 90 Run type of season, but to achieve this it will help if Bobby will finally settle on a spot in the lineup to hit him( He has hit in ever spot except the pitchers spot the last 2 years). If he stays healthy and plays everyday I think Johnson is capable of an All-Star season in helping the Braves offense into the play-offs!

By that you mean you hope we trade for Ryan Ludwick and Jake Peavy, and sign Tom Glavine, right?

Yeah, me either. What’s up gondee? You got me all anxious. You put out all the right signals, I made all the right moves, now I’m sitting here, waiting by my computer like an a-hole. It’s like every relationship I’ve ever had with a woman, except you’d have to replace my computer with the bushes in front of their house.
