Tonight was the first night of the Arizona Fall League and a couple of Braves top prospects were on display. I will be doing these every night and doing my best to recap the other leagues that have Braves players as well (Mexican, Venezuelan etc.). But not all of these leagues post their scores at a reasonable time (AFL is 2-3 hours behind me right now, so don't go ballistic if I miss something. That said, the team with most of the Braves players in the Mexican League, Navojoa, had their game postponed due to wet grounds.
Arizona
Peoria (Us) 4, Scottsdale 8
Jason Heyward came into Arizona and picked up right where he left off during the regular season. Keep in mind also that for his career, Jason Heyward is 26/31 in stolen bases. That is a little better than 83% which is well about the 'safe zone' of 70%. His speed is an asset too! Mike Minor started this game as well and he didn't appear to be as sharp as his stint in Rome, but his defense wasn't helping him and the run he allowed was unearned. That is all the Braves that got into this game though Craig Kimbrel, Lee Hyde, Jeff Lyman, Freddie Freeman and Brandon Hicks are all on the team. Don't forget to check in every night to see how our boys are doing!

eh
not that great…it wont be close to as good as your Braves/Nationals post or anything like that. Damn Phoenix traffic got me there late thus a not so great seat. I got some pretty nice videos of Minor pitching and Heyward hitting tho.

Hey, there out there for a month and a half, so I’m sure you’ll get another shot. If you get the chance, show up early and talk to some of the guys. All the guys I’ve met on that team are great people, especially Lyman, Freddie, Weglarz, and Moskos.
cbwilk - October 14, 2009
yeah I talked to Lee Hyde for a minute and he was a real cool guy too
Scott Coleman - October 14, 2009
That’s good dude. Yeah, Lee is a good guy, he’s really smart. Talk to him about GA Tech football and he’ll be excited.

You met Welgarz?
He’s like my hero.
VivaLosBravos - October 14, 2009
Oh yeah, I’ve known Nick for a few years. I love that guy; he’s one of my favorite non-Braves and I’m really looking forward to him making it.
cbwilk - October 14, 2009
Ya, I root for him, too.
But don’t have quite as much reason to do so…
VivaLosBravos - October 15, 2009
I actually got to meet his whole family last year when I saw him playing for the Canada team in Durham. It wasn’t hard to spot them, they’re all redheads just like him.

Is Schafer playing anywhere this offseason?
TradeAndruw - October 14, 2009
I think he is still recovering from wrist surgery. it had a three month recovery time if I remember correctly

More proof that our starting outfield next year will be Diaz, McLouth, and Heyward. Now just re-sign Laroche and Gonzalez and the offseason work would be just about done.

i agree with ya there, but im still thinking wren will pull something off and get a big bat. i dont see him sittin around all offseason
Hcgadawgs - October 14, 2009
yeah Frank doesn’t like to sit back to much. if that helps or hurts us will be interesting to see.
