The Braves begin their final homestand of the season tomorrow as they will host the Philadelphia Phillies for three games then the New York Mets for three games. It's probably a pretty decent time to go see the Braves since they've decided to start winning ballgames lately. Here are the homestand highlights for the next six days:
- Tuesday, September 16th, vs. Phillies: It's the old vs. the young as 45-year old Jamie Moyer pitches against 22-year old rookie James Parr. 2-for-1 tickets that night.
- Wednesday, September 17th, vs. Phillies: It's the last good promotion of the year as the first 10,000 fans get a Braves winter hat. Jair Jurrjens goes for the Braves.
- Thursday, September 18th, vs. Phillies: This is likely the last widely attended college night (since I'm guessing the Gwinnett Braves will be a cheaper date next year). It's $1 hot dog night and something called "Choptoberfest." Not sure what that is, but I like the name. Should be a lot of offense with Jo-Jo Reyes on the mound.
- Friday, September 19th, vs. Mets: Naturally it's the last Friday Night Fireworks and it's also the beginning of Fan Appreciation Weekend, so I'm sure there will be some other stuff going on. Mike Hampton takes the mound for possibly the last time at Turner Field.
- Saturday, September 20th, vs. Mets: More fireworks, that's right, another night of post-game fireworks (thank you Publix). This is also Future Stars Night, which I'm guessing is when they trot out the minor league players and pitchers of the year. The Tijuana Iguana will be toeing the mound for the Braves.
- Sunday, September 21st, vs. Mets: The only afternoon game of the homestand. There is an alumni meet and greet before the game, I'll keep you informed as to who might be there. James Parr will take the mound for the final game at Turner Field this year, but you'll want to stick around after the game as Sprayberry's own Travis Tritt (sans Twitts) will put on a free concert.
If you were planning on making one more trip to the ballpark, make sure you get to it this week.
I'll be there...
For the Phillies series, at least. Gotta use up these vouchers while I still have a chance to do so. So I’ll be sitting somewhere in the 100s section for them all, likely. If I have any left, they’ll be up for grabs for anyone interested in seeing the Mets to finish out the home season on Thursday night. Ironically, I’ll be in DC for the final weekend seeing two worse teams duking it out for Stephen Strasburg as the Nationals host the Padres.
Much preferring to see Jair finish out the season 14-9, rather than 13-10, but would accept 13-9 just as easily.

Wed., Thurs., Sun.
Hell yeah, keep me posted about availability…I’d love to make time to go!
Not sure what your thoughts are, and I know you know the Ted probably better than I do, but I’d recommend you sit in 114-118 or 119 (practically sitting in the Braves dugout like 10-4 did the other night) – and not blocked by the pesky net – but then again I’m always looking at it through a lens!
I’ll be there Wednesday night, probably at the top of 118/120 or 119. Lauren T. will be there Tuesday night.
I’d like to go Sunday just because it’s the last home game, but my ears might bleed if they do too much pre-concert music (ugh, just not my fav, by a long shot). We’ll see!

I want to come down..
in the worst way, but don’t see it happening, unless some things change.
An interesting thought….I think that when the Braves leave for Philly for the last road trip of the season is the traditional time to make the rookies wear some crazy get-up to the airport. If that’s Sunday after the game, I’d love to see the guys getting on the bus!

I'll be there Sunday
Had tickets for Saturday, but i’m gonna change em out for Sunday. I’m kinda hoping we can sneak into better seats like we did for last Tuesday’s game against Colorado (see game thread for pics), but i doubt it for the last home game of the year.
10-4 - September 15, 2008
So is that this year?
10-4 - September 15, 2008
LMAO
I just read that… I love my minor dyslexia. My first recollection of writing something similar to that was when I was in Boy Scouts and I had to do some sort of wilderness observation writeup for a wilderness merit badge. In my writeup I wrote, “crawling up the tree was an inch worm crawling up the tree.” That still makes me laugh.

anyone wanna hook me up with a braves winter hat? i’ve been looking for one, but the site doesn’t sell them
bigjoe - September 15, 2008
I might be able to help you with that
Giveaways are more like “first 10,000 tickets” and I do have my season ticket seat that I can redeem at the gate to try and score a second one, along with the home-plate seat I’m going to try and score with my certificates.
royhobbs - September 15, 2008
More like "First 10,000 fans"
We had an extra ticket for Bobby Cox bobblehead night (or generic gray haired man in Braves jacket bobblehead night), and the lady said “its one per fan.”
10-4 - September 16, 2008
Really depends on you get
I’ve sweet talked a promotions lady into giving me a second hat before, with just one ticket. If worse comes to worse, I can use my season ticket, walk in, get my hat, leave through the turnstiles, and then go purchase my home plate/dugout seat with my vouchers and go in and get another.
royhobbs - September 16, 2008
Exactly
what I did for the bobblehead promo. But this time I already promised a family member my other hat.
Lizziebeth - September 16, 2008
Forfeit
In utter hatred for the Mets, I would like to see the Braves forfeit all three games to the Phils. Let’s just let the Phils sweep us. Then turn it on for the Mets. If we can’t win, then it’s ANYBODY but the Mets.
My $0.02.
WienerDog - September 16, 2008
I understand...
…the sentiment. I’m tired of getting beat by the stupid Phils this year, though, and I hate losing in general.
sddbaker - September 16, 2008
I'm kind of the opposite
I loathe the Phillies. I can tolerate the Mets a lot more than I can the Phillies. I’m getting tired of Shane Victorino and Chase Utley injuring catchers (Jesus Flores, Brian McCann) with helmet-leading plays at the plate, and regardless of class, would like the teams to fight back. Plunk slow-footed Burrell or something, but they don’t.
Chase Utley especially bothers me. He exudes this quiet demeanor, and despite being a great player, he’s still a prick IMO. Psychotic glassy stare – it’s the quiet ones you have to watch out for. He babyish-face also reminds me of a cross between a Keebler elf and a Lucky Troll.
Moreover, the season may be a bust, and regardless of draft pick order, I just don’t condone laying down to anyone. Despite the Phillies’ record against Atlanta, I’d rather the Braves just wreck shit up for both the Phillies AND Mets, and let some other teams determine their fates.
royhobbs - September 16, 2008
Yeah!
After reading that I wanna put on my combat boots, stomp around and kick some teeth out!
Lizziebeth - September 16, 2008
this is why i was cheering for the marlins. at least they’re a young and plucky team managed by one of our former coaches.
bigjoe - September 16, 2008
I'll be there Saturday!
I just found out that a buddy of mine has come through, so I’ll get to be at Saturday’s game. I’m especially happy because it’s the minor league night deal (I think) where they honor the players of the year. Last year, it looked like this:
Tyler Flowers, Tommy Hanson, and Brent Lillibridge sign autographs.

The whole gang on the field:

Schafer on the big screen:

Jeff Locke shaking hands with John Schuerholz:

All the guys in the dugout before the awards:

It’s a really cool thing to see – many of the guys we discuss here all the time will be there, and you can meet them for a minute or two and get an autograph. It’s my favorite game of the year! (I sound like one big commercial, I know…..)
secondbass - September 16, 2008
Huge thanks for the tips and the photos!
Lizziebeth - September 16, 2008
Dammit!
Now i wanna go Saturday! I bet they’ll be some good ones there too. Rohrbough, Freeman, Heyward, Redmond, Hanson perhaps?
10-4 - September 17, 2008
I just talked to the ticket guy on the phone, and he said they’ve sold 40,000 tickets for Sunday.
