Both teams go down a game and now face elimination:
Carolina 9, Mississippi 3
Tommy Hanson didn't have his ace stuff last night as the four runs he surrendered were too much for the M-Braves offense to overcome. The 'Cats added five more runs in the eighth and ninth off of Carlos Sencion, who was inexplicably left out there to surrender three more hits in a second inning of work -- bad managing, unless our bullpen was completely out of arms. The Mudcats drew to within a game of clinching the title and put the Braves with their backs against the wall.
Myrtle Beach 7, Potomac 8
The Myrtle Beach bullpen could hold the lead and Potomac came back to win in extra innings. The Pelicans broke the 4-4 tie in the sixth with an RBI from Phillip Britton, and added to their lead with a Brandon Hicks homeurn, but relievers Tyler Wilson and Ferdin Tejada could not hold the lead and allowed Potomac to tie the game in the ninth with a dramatic two-out three-run homerun. The P-Nats won the game on a bases loaded walk by Brett Butts in the tenth.

I was at the Pelicans game last night. They really should have won; Tejeda gave up a homer to Jhontan Solano, one of the lightest hitting catchers I’ve ever seen, and Butts just couldn’t find the strike zone. If Kimbrel had been able to get warm sooner, not his fault, they would have taken Butts out.
Ernie Mejia and Brandon Hicks both made great defensive plays, especially Mejia, diving for a ball and throwing off balance from his knees.
Eric Campbell used to be fairly spread out at the plate, but now he has this very upright stance. Aside from that….he’s still Eric Campbell.
I was shocked that Jason Heyward wasn’t in the lineup. It was nice to see that his approach to the fans hadn’t changed a bit between spring training and now. Also, I made on of the Potomac reliever’s day by telling him how good Heyward is. I said, “Yeah, he’s their top prospect. He’s one of the top ten players in the minors,” and the pitcher goes, “Dude, no way. I struck him out the other night. One, two, three, slider and I made him look silly.” He was pretty happy about it.
Jon Mark Owings is out for the finals because he busted up his shoulder diving for a ball. He was pretty frustrated but knows that’s how it is when you play hard.
And Jeff Lyman looked great. I’ve seen him pitch a few times and he’s always so-so, but he looked really on last night.
