We've waited 21 years for an Atlanta Braves player to hit for the cycle, and we had to have this wonderful moment during a belittling sweep at the hands of the Cubs. Mark Kotsay hit for the cycle tonight, becoming the first player to accompish that feat for the Braves since Albert Hall did in on September 23, 1987.
Kotsay went 5-for-5 with a triple to right in his first at-bat, his sixth homer of the season in his second, a single past second base in his third, and a double to the right-field corner in his fourth. He added another single in the ninth.
He raised his average 12 points from .288 to .300 with his 5-for-5 night. I guess you've got to look for the silver lining of this season somewhere. Tom Glavine's "audition" didn't go so well, and after an almost sweep of Arizona, we find ourselves on the wrong end of a four-game losing streak.

Thanks, Mark
I was at the game and proud to say I got to be there when Kotz got the cycle. I’m not sure which was more surprising though.
That or Frenchy having a three hit night with a homer.

Hmmm...
a 21 year unexpected rarity vs. a battle of unachieved expectations….yeah I see your dilemma when BOTH delivered…in a loss (sigh)

and Glavine was just horrible tonight. 7 runs in 4 innings…. we could’ve had a chance at that one with a better start.

Frenchy's toe tap
I didn’t get to watch the game last night, but I saw at Braves.com that Frenchy said he’s going to try and use a toe tap to get his timing going. Was he using it last night? Anybody notice?

When he hit the homer...
He had more of a toe flop. Almost turned his ankle but hey it worked. Ya know, the blind squirrel gets a nut every now and then…

Cycle
That was wonderful! I didn’t realize it had been so long since a Brave had done it. Cool. Way to go Killah.

Awesome
Can we plz trade him now? I want Anderson/B.Jones/Shaffer. Thnx.
TradeAndruw - August 15, 2008
Schafer..
…isn’t ready and I highly doubt he’ll be ready next year.
RainDelay - August 15, 2008
You could say the same for Francoeur
I say the Shafer kid’s ready. At least give Jones/Anderson some time. Can we get something for Kotsay? Rays have an OF hole now.
TradeAndruw - August 15, 2008
Jones isn’t a CF and if you want to trade Kotsay he’d have to get through waivers and I doubt Boston would allow anyone they thought the Rays might want pass through unmolested.
yondaime4 - August 15, 2008
well
I certainly wouldn’t let his wife pass through unmolested.

+1

I'm thinking..
…what the harm would be in maybe resigning Kotsay to another one year deal. it’s not like he’s a huge black hole of offense or defense in Center. And it would give time for Schafer to maybe come around and be ready. And maybe try and unload Kotsay by the trade deadline.
RainDelay - August 16, 2008
I’m in agreement with that..
VegasAces - August 16, 2008
If I had to pick a Braves player to do it this season...
…it wouldn’t have been SK. Congrats.
