No More Corky

The much maligned backup catcher for the Braves, Corky Miller, has been designated for assignment (DFA'ed). Corky seemed like a likable enough player, and the other Braves players seemed to have an Orr-like enjoyment of him in the clubhouse, but in the end it really should come down to performance, and Corky just wasn't performing. In 26 games this season, Miller hit just .093 (5-for-54). With the Braves out of the playoff race, the team may finally be turning to their young players to let some of them develop. At catcher (and eventually backup catcher), the team will go with Clint Sammons for the remainer of the year. Through his first nine at-bats this year, Sammons has already equaled Miller's hit total for the year.

you think everyone in the clubhouse just constantly ribbed corky, and he didn’t know what the fuck was going on?

I'm sorry to see him go

but I honestly thought it was a mistake to keep him over Pena to begin with. I know, I know – Bobby likes the defense and game calling skills.

I would’ve helped him pack his bags. Good riddens.

ADIOS PORKY! Its about DAMN TIME.

The most important part of this story is that Clint Sammons, who is hands down the best defensive catcher I’ve ever seen in the minors, is now the full time backup. Plus, he’s a better hitter than Miller.
