Braves Non-Tender Chuck James

The Chuck James era for the Atlanta Braves is over as the team officially non-tendered him today. Here is the press release:

The Atlanta Braves announced today that the club will non-tender left-handed pitcher Chuck James for the 2009 season.

James, 28, owns a 24-19 career record with a 4.48 ERA in four Major League seasons. In 2008, he went 2-5 with a 9.10 ERA in seven games started for the Atlanta Braves and 5-5 with a 2.92 ERA in 16 games (15 starts) with Triple-A Richmond.

James underwent successful left shoulder surgery on September 12, 2008, performed by Dr. James Andrews in Birmingham, Ala., to repair a tear in his rotator cuff and to clean up a frayed labrum. He is expected to miss most of the 2009 season.

James was drafted by the Atlanta Braves in the 20th round of the 2002 June free-agent draft.

The Braves now have 38 active players on its 40-man roster.

Not too surprising, he won't pitch in 2009 anyway. He was good for about 15 seconds, but unfortuantely aweful for the rest of it. If you'd like to chat with Chuck, just get your windows replaced.

how could this happen?

i mean, he’s a LEFTY for godsakes.

Pitchers

Where do we go next? James is gone. Hudson is injured. Burnett signed with NY. Wren won’t lower himself to talk to Towers for Peavy. I’ve heard we have no interest in Lowe or Sheets. The Pirates and Royals want too much for their studs. What are we gonna do to remain competitive this year?

If you’d like to chat with Chuck, just get your windows replaced.

i forgot to mention…this is so unprofessional and uncalled for. chuck is such a nice guy, and disrespecting him like that is absolutely disgusting. you should be ashamed of yourself.

youre kidding, right?

of course i’m not kidding. did you know that chuck went on 3 mormon missions, AND goes to africa on his days off to circumcise babies?

hahahaha, maybe chuck can go help rebuild new orleans too
Braves tendered Diaz

The Braves did show Matt Diaz a little tenderness.

He should come cheap, after last season. Healthy, he’s a good bat off the bench, though he’d be a more useful piece if he could play first base. Matt rakes lefties and has hit well enough in his past to make him a useful throw in for trading purposes.

oh my god, if we make a trade with someone, they’re not gonna say “can we get that matt diaz too? HE’S A HELL OF A HITTER!!!” at least when we got eli marrero in the drew deal, he could play more than one position

Chuck "Cy" James will return

And everyone will be pissed. Because it won’t be in a Braves uni.
