Giles Lands in Colorado

A quick little ex-Brave check this morning finds our former second baseman Marcus Giles signing a minor-league deal with the defending NL Champion Colorado Rockies. I particularly like the honesty of Giles' agent:

"Of all the opportunities he had, and there weren't many, this was the best one," said Giles' agent, Joe Bick.

Giles looks to be competing with young prospect Jayson Nix in spring training for the second base job. I used to really like Giles as a Brave - he was scrappy and undersized and full of energy. My opinion of him turned a bit when we put him in the leadoff spot - a position he was never really suited for and one which he never wanted to be in.

I'm not sure his stroke translates well to Colorado. He's a career .281 hitter at Coors Field, but having watched the way Giles gets wide-eyed at the plate when he thinks he can hit a homerun, I'm fairly certain that his big sweeping swing will be full-energy-swinging for the fences more often than not.

One word for Marcus...

STEROIDS

Marcus
...was my favorite Brave for a while.  I have always been partial to scrappy second basemen (describes me in high school). Lemmer will always be my fave.

Right now I'm without a current favorite so I'll take opinions - who should be my favorite Brave?  Options should above all be scrappy, hustle type players, preferably a middle infielder.  For all you folks that see the Braves minor league teams on a regular basis, I would be open to picking up a favorite player and following him to the bigs (hopefully).

Any and all responses/ideas welcome.

Hustle
when you said hustle i instanly thought of Diaz in LF.  NOT the most athelticly gifted player but makes does his best with what he has.  Now's his role and performs to it or over it.  Has gotten better especially his D when he arrived.  But for a Middle Inf i really don't know.  Looking at lillbridge and he seems pretty scrapy.  If you don't find one maybe me even though im only in high school. Lol.
Robert Marcial
He's one of the grittiest players I've seen in the minors...he plays hard every game, and he's great with a glove wherever he plays (2B, 3B, SS, LF - wherever).  He was getting a lot of playing time in Rome this year before the draft brought in Brandon Hicks and Travis Jones.  He was just behind Chase Fontaine in BA at the time of the draft, and then got his time cut.  I really would love to see the Braves give Marcial a good opportunity to develop (ie.,  consistent playing time).  He's a good one - I would tell my kids to watch him play because he played hard every second on the game.  Great guy.
